  9. Said it at the time, if you’re going to trade Luka to the Lakers you ask for everything and make them punt on the season. All Nico got was AD, Christie and a 1st.

  28. Let’s say Austin reaves continues his current hot streak during the playoffs.l and this is his new level of sustained output. Would reaves, AD, and Christie be fair compensation for Luka? Especially considering the contract reaves is on right now

  29. I remember seeing a report that Rob was willing to Include everything; AR, Dalton, every pick & swap available. BUT he wanted to talk to Luka to see if he’d extend, and Nico said no, he didn’t want Luka finding out & going to the media or trying to leverage his way somewhere else or whatever crack pot thinking Nico had.

    That’s the only semi logical thing I’ve seen that I’d be able to understand.

  30. the fact of the matter is that this kind of trade isn’t done precisely because of how many assets it would normally take.

    and on top of 1 allstar/star player and the 3 young players they had, they’d have to surrender 2 to 4 picks and 2 to 4 pick swaps (2picks, 4 swaps or 4 picks, 2swaps).

     

    That’s the “deserving” deal in all this. But Lakers wouldn’t do that because it’d demolish their team completely.

     

    Instead, Mavs used/traded Luka as if he was just any other “allstar” player or top 20 player. He isn’t. He might not have been top 5 at that point in t he season, but his value was top 3. He had just averaged 32ppg at 24 and gone to the finals.

     

    These types of trades don’t happen simply because it takes toooo much to acquire that player.

    And somehow Nico was convinced that Doncic was *only* worth a top 15 player, a good young prospect, and 1 pick.
