Devastating news for a kid who went through so much mental stress to pursue his dream
So sad. Wishing him all the best.
oh my god that is so sad man.. hes only 21 ☹️
This is so brutal. EDS is such a rare, debilitating disease. The fact he played so much high level hockey with this condition speaks to how hard he worked to rehab and take care of himself.
All the best, Chaz.
Brutal. Really have to feel for him. As hard as it must be, I respect his decision to take a step back and do what’s best for his health at such a young age.
Damn, that is awful. Hope he is able to make the best of it going forward.
That explains so much and is absolutely brutal for him
Damn I remember listening to him and his brother on a jets podcast a couple years ago the future seemed so bright for him and they just really came off as great kids!
Not to be mean, but he missed so much crucial dev time already in his last 3-4 years that he probably wasn’t going to make much of a career at this point anyways.
Tough break for the guy.
Oh man that’s shitty. Feel bad for the kid! It certainly explains the amount of injuries he’s had.
That is tough. Wish him all the best.
I feel awful for the kid. Good on him for realizing health is bigger than hockey but that fucking sucks.
I doubt there is a path here, but is there any chance we could bring him in for the final game this season and let him out for an NHL shift or two? I don’t know his health status or if it’s even possible with his current condition but I think it could be a nice gesture before he sets out for good.
Poor kid.
Finally explains how extremely injury prone he was. The fact he made it this long before throwing in the towel is a miracle unto itself
Rough, rough way to end a career. I was initially high on him coming through and everything.
Poor guy. My wife has EDS, and it impacts her life in many ways. While she is not a professional athlete, it’s great to hear he will be a champion to help out on this front.
I’m also glad that he’s taking the advice from his medical professionals and retiring. Wish all the best for him.
Feel terrible for a guy who can’t live out his dream with so much potential. Absolute tragedy. Remember him in the WJC and being that kind of guy who can turn a game with scoring ability.
On the Jets management side….I hope to hell we are getting better medical workups on guys in the early rounds. And I guess I hope we are making better decisions on risk with our high picks which aren’t plentiful as we are making trades as contenders.
Chevy always framed this pick as a pretty significant gamble on Lucius talent in a thin draft (although Dallas next two picks were Johnston and Stankoven) vs the already well-known medical issue of his cartilage transplant and femur realignment. In the past 30 years there’s been 2 major professional athletes who have come back to play regularly from EITHER of those procedures. Steve Yzerman and Lonzo Ball (after missing 2.5 seasons).
Oh my God
Poor kid
That’s horrible. Such a young and promising player. All of the work to make it up through the junior leagues to get drafted, only to end up finding out you have a condition that makes it dangerous to even play the game you love.
I hope he can find another role around the game of hockey in the future. This is one of the most sad things that could happen to a player.
Ehlers ruins everything.
I blame Ehlers. He invented this syndrome
With that other guy. Why would he do that.
