[Murray] Breaking: Free-agent catcher Yasmani Grandal and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a minor-league contract, sources say. Grandal was with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season.

2. For those who don’t know, he’s a Switch hitting catcher with ok fielding, and no arm. He’s also slower than Cases and a power hitter.

5. I wondered if this might happen but I sort of just assumed the Braves would grab him after Murphy got injured. Grandal had something of a turnaround last year — although at his age who knows what the numbers actually mean.

   FWIW, he was fangraphs’ leader in projected fWAR for all catchers this offseason. So on paper we actually just addressed the lack of catcher production as well as possible lol.
