[TSN] Chris Johnston: Matthew Knies isn’t really interested in entertaining an offer sheet this summer. That’s not something he or his agent are pursuing heading into the offseason. On top of that, the Leafs feel they have enough cap space to get their business done this summer.

Too bad. Chicago better make it happen!
Keeping knies, and signing a deal comparable to what guys like Cozens, Stutzle, Hughes, Caufield and Suzuki have signed should be a priority. 8 years at around 8M
He absolutely has to be a core part of this teams future. He hasn’t even reached his prime and he’s already one of our most impactful players.
Back the Brinks truck up please and thank you.
Was truly embarrassing after Knies big hatty Sportsnet went on about this made up offer sheet, so embarrassing to straight up be spreading fake news
How do Johnston and all the insiders justify there jobs when, in reality they are middle men releasing information literally 5-10 minutes before an announcement from the team
To have room for Knies they will need a home town discount from Tavares.
Don’t even mess around
Go 8X8….. will look like peanuts in a few years
I remember when he was coming up and killing the NCAA and many people weren’t holding their breath because he was a low second round pick killing mediocre competition. Most were excited but rarely do we hit on those non first rounders. An amazing thing to see we finally got one of those guys. 22 year old 30 goal scorer who is exactly that tough nosed player who you need. Amazing he wants to be here and is going to be a Leaf a long time.
He stay
Look, I know Chris Johnston is a respected hockey journalist and insider trading specialist, but….this is far fetched. And I normally don’t comment on this kind of thing. Knies has been developed the right way and has fit in very nicely with his style of play, and thrived under Berube. He clearly loves playing in Toronto amidst all the pressure of being in the centre of the hockey universe. If he were offered $7M * 6, I’d honestly be surprised if he doesn’t take it. The Leafs would be stupid to let him go, especially since the situation with Tavares and Marner in the off-season will get interesting. Just my .02
Sign this guy, he’s an absolute stud. You cannot let him walk.
THANK YOU MATTY KNIES! Just one more needless talking head bs put to rest. Let’s focus on winning games.
Hatty Knies!
Gonna buy a Knies jersey if he signs
I expect a 2-3 year deal at a reasonable cap hit. Leafs can’t go $8M if they want to bring Marner and Tavares back.
If they decide they don’t want to bring those guys back then that changes things and Knies probably gets locked up long term.
I’m an Avs fan but I watch the Leafs when Avs don’t play. Every time I watch the Leafs, he’s a fucking dog.
How much does he realistically sign for and do you guys think you can keep Marner and Tavares as well?
Knies is the priority over both Tavares and Marner, unfortunately. I’m not saying he’s the best of the 3 but his style is the hardest to develop and trade for.
A very solid second liner who can fill in on the first line. He is playing with marner and matthews on the first lime and has fit in nicely and improved as the season went on. He is a very good, strong power forward, and once he continues to learn to use his body consistently around the net, he will be a menace out there. If knies and leafs sign anything sub 7 for extended length he will be a fan fave for a long time if he continues this trajectory.
His 0.1 second goal is one of the more incredible self-determination goals I have seen in the nhl in a long, long time.
anything under 8×8 will be a steal
Pay the man.
He Stay!
I think it makes more sense to sign Tavares to a cheaper 4 year deal, then sign Matthew Knies to a cheaper bridge deal around the same length (4 years?), and at the end of Tavares deal you can use the cap space to sign Knies to a long term deal.
The offer-sheet thing is only a talking point because its the Leafs. 5 offer sheets signed in the past 10 years and every talking head wants to act like its an inevitable axe hanging over the teams head.

22 year old beast just get him signed.
Love Knies, but you can’t get carried away. Bunting and Hymen also scored at a similar pace in that exact role.
Our boy wants an even bigger payday. Another stellar season he could ask for 7-8M.
