He says Avdija funny, right?
Yea one year later it’s fine to say that, but the trade can only rlly be evaluated long term given when the picks r and how young bub is. Seriously doubt we would actually still be a bottom 3 team in the league w deni tho
Bub in April averaged 17 points 7 assists 5 rebounds shooting 44% from field and 39% from 3 and is only 19. Deni is good but we’re in rebuild going to get more wings maybe in this years draft if not next year we’re the wing position in loaded.
Yeah my only criticism of the moves we’ve made in the rebuild is that we have so many guards that it’s going to be really difficult for us to develop them all to their fullest potential. The cream will rise to the top at the end of the day, but given our development focus, id like to see us be somewhat intentional about how we draft to maximize our ability to grow these players, especially after a season where I think we demonstrated some clear ability to get more out of the young guys over the course of the season.
I think at the end of the day flipping Deni was the right move, and I hope to see him find his way into a competitive setting given his talent level. He was just going to be very loudly accomplishing nothing for us in DC, which is not the career I would like to see for him.
Very fair assessment. Reminds me a little of Sabonis for Halliburton in the sense that it feels very win-win right now. A few years later now it feels like Indiana definitely won that trade so time will tell if Blazers or Wiz got the better deal 👀
It was a win/win imo. Love Deni & will continue to root for him.
Bad trade. I can see multiple reasons for the trade and none of them have anything to do with Deni himself.
1. Full on tank to keep our first round pick
2. Feature Poole to raise value
3. Feature Kuzma to raise value
4. Develop rookies
Kuz wasn’t fetching the right price, and that blew up in our face. Poole had a downright awful year and they needed to rehab his value. At least the Poole situation went according to plan. The front office is simply flipping what little assets we had into a complete teardown. Deni was our best asset. Nothing else was materializing. They pulled the trigger on a trade to Portland.
I still hate it.
