Romanov, Holmstrom, Tsyplakov, Gatcomb are RFA’s but I put in reasonable guesstimate contracts

  1. Not sure about MacLean, Veremyev and Pelech, but I haven’t been watching too closely lately… otherwise, this is a decent start IMO.

  2. Trades I made to get here:

    – Pageau to EDM ($2.5m retained) for a 2026 2nd and the signing rights of Matt Copponi (Pageau was supposedly on the block at the deadline for EDM).
    – Mayfield to DAL ($1.8m retained) for a 2027 2nd (DAL right side is awful and they are in an awful cap crunch next season, a 2nd is probably too much).
    – Pierre Engvall, Islanders 2025 2nd, and the rights to Ruslan Iskhakov to PIT for future considerations.
    – Anthony Duclair and EDM’s 2026 2nd to San Jose for future considerations.

    Net one 2nd round pick.

Ryan Pulock and Casey Cizikas are in the press box (could trade potentially), Varly in LTIR.

That leaves $27,126,667 in cap space

  3. I do want a re-tool, but I don’t even think we could get to this point. But I also don’t know what our contracts are looking like right now

  4. That’s a start but having an AHL bottom 6 would put us in the same pickle as last year

  5. I like it. MacLean still needs to prove himself as a Cizikas replacement but the end of the year he looked good.

I’d also like Ritchie to develop another year or half a year before bringing him up.

But those are mainly the guys I think we move forward with if we re-tool

  6. That 4th line is hot garbage. Maclean is terrible. Gatcomb had a couple of fluke goals (shot like 27% or something similarly unsustainable). Gleb is a college UFA; you are massively overrating his value. If we’re lucky he’s a depth player in a couple of seasons. He absolutely should not be penciled in to a regular NHL role next season.

  7. Where’s Dobson? As an Islanders fan and someone who played college hockey, he’s probably the best player on the islanders (might even have the highest rating in the NHL video game)

  8. Not bad. I haven’t give up on Dobson yet I’d offer sheet him and try to get a 1 year deal done. If another team swoops in we have the option to take the draft capital an let him go.

  9. The team is 2 1st liners and a #1D stud from being a contender.
Tear the whole team down, including Barzal and Horvat, and start over i.m.o.

  10. Barzal is not a first line center in my opinion. In that role, you’re carrying the team in offense & top 10 in the league to be a legit contender. He’s no where near being able to do that. Worth more in trades.
