Two Cal Poly football veterans, redshirt junior quarterback Jaden Jones and redshirt sophomore Tyrece Fairly-Diyem, announced via Instagram today their entries to the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Jones, a dual-threat quarterback, played in four games this season and totaled 384 passing yards and two touchdowns in the air through his four games last season. On the ground, he garnered 144 passing yards on 16 attempts in 2024.

Jones battled multiple injuries throughout this season, including a concussion, and hence only played in four games.

Previously, Jones suffered a season-ending surgery in October 2022, sidelining him for the entire 2023 season before returning in 2024.

Before his 2022 injury, Jones started in the team’s first three games of the season. He completed 59 percent of his passes for 655 yards and five touchdowns without throwing an interception in those three games.

The quarterback room now notably consists of sophomore quarterbacks Jackson Akins and Ty Dieffenbach, as well as redshirt sophomore Bo Kelly. The three fit more of the pocket-style of quarterback as opposed to Jones’ ability to run the ball.

While Fairly-Diyem had a minimal role last season, he was the third-leading receiver in 2023, collecting 418 yards and four touchdowns.

The team also lost redshirt freshman running back Aiden Ramos and redshirt junior linebacker Je’kob Jones to the transfer portal earlier this offseason.
