How does he have a job and why does anyone still take him seriously?

Talking head, that is all
no one does take him serious. he is hired by ESPN which has such sharp minds as SaS, kendrick Perkins. Dan Orlovsky and Molly
His job is quite literally to be an idiot and provide some excitement on draft day.
Yeah he lost all credibility putting shaedure as his #1 overall
TF is he still doing here
Might be time to hang up the aqua net and call it a day.
I kind of feel bad for Jimmy Clausen, catching strays every time somebody wants to dunk on Mel
I personally find his mannerisms and rants hilarious don’t care if he’s consistently wrong
Guy has no idea what he’s talking about
It’s crazy that Jimmy Clausen stuck around for 5 years and Josh Rosen was out of the league by his third year.
This guy only picked 1 right out of 31 in the 2023 draft and he is not that much better other years. Imagine getting paid a ton to be wrong constantly.
He is a clown.
because idiots like you bring him up. sane reason stephen a smith is still employed
When the lions drafted Calvin Johnson, he got a disgusted look on his face and said, “Why not Brady Quinn here? “
Because it’s impossible to take any sports commentator seriously. When they’re not trying to hype up every game/play/trade as the turning point of human civilization they spend all their time trying to predict the future and it’s little surprise they’re constantly wrong as they don’t possess psychic powers.
He 100% blames the Panthers org just like he blamed the entirety of the NFL for Shadeur.
Wow, he made it a whole 5 years!
His job is to generally be somewhat entertaining while providing basic information on over 200 players to the public every year and he has done a LOT over the decades to familiarize people with it. He’s genuinely been a positive force for the NFL. If he was genuinely better at evaluating players he would be on an NFL team, who have dozens of scouts and constantly get picks wrong all the time as well.
The problem is when he forgets that and has an absolute meltdown like he did this year thinking he is above everyone else or knows better than NFL teams. That was… something…
To answer the question of why he still has a job, its because he was the first (or among the very early) to start doing draft coverage, and, even if he hasn’t been that accurate, has likely grown the media coverage around the NFL draft. And now he has a super established personal brand. At the end of the day he falls into the “you’re allowed to be wrong, but your not allowed to be boring” segment of opinion news.
So I don’t get it. Those are just stats. Was he successful or not?
AI should have replaced him already. It’s as poor at reality as Mel Kiper.
It’s because he’s a shock jock: he says controversial things and says them as if they’re an absolute truth. People then watch, start talking about it, start complaining, and then rinse and repeat the next year to see what kind of crap this guy is spewing. He may be wrong, he may be annoying, but it brings in viewers and it keeps people talking about ESPN (which makes them money).
He doesn’t have to be right about anything, he just has to keep being a shock jock making controversial statements so people to keep talking about it.
The Jim Cramer of sports
It was fun to watch him have a progressive aneurysm the further Shedeur fell.
Wait…..Clausen has been out of the league for 10 years already? Man I’m getting old 😭
