Detroit Lions DECLINED This Massive NFL Draft First-Round Trade!
All right, now that the draft is officially over, we have information that comes out when it comes to trades during the first round. Uh, rumors, news, things that leak after the draft. And we have one big piece of information that I thought was really interesting. And Pride of Detroit actually wrote about it, but it came from this piece of content that the Eagles do where they cover their draft. in the in pride of Detroit, Jeremy Ryman wrote an article detailing how the Eagles reached out to the Detroit Lions about trading up in the first round. So, if you guys remember before the draft, the conversation uh really leading up to it was will the Lions trade up or will they trade back? And we have information now confirming that they had an opportunity to trade back um and to try and select whoever they wanted to select, but they stayed put. Brad said no thank you and took Tyreek Williams, a defensive tackle out of Ohio State. So let’s read the article and we can go through this together. So this is again proud of Detroit wrote about this and it says here but a video from the Philadelphia Eagles. This is the title of the content 96 hours inside the Eagles draft room shows that the Lions had an opportunity to trade back four spots to the final pick of the night. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was feeling a little eager on day one. Starting with the 22nd pick, Roseman picked up the phone and called as many teams as he could about a potential trade-up with Alabama linebacker Jiad Campbell surprisingly still on the board. Roseman wanted to ensure he was an Eagle. Eventually, Roseman called the Lions and we can only hear Philly’s side of the conversation. Roseman said, “Any interest in moving back.” After receiving Holmes’s answer, Roseman said into the phone, “That’s fair. I appreciate the honesty.” After hanging up, he turned to the war room and said, “Detroit, I just spoke to. They said no. This news doesn’t really come as as a surprise after day one of the NFL draft. Holmes admitted that they had received trade calls and one in particular was tempting. He said, “Got a few calls when it got close to our pick. Holmes said just didn’t feel great just how it was thinning out for us specifically.” That’s the fascination of the NFL, right? It’s 31 other different boards and you have no idea. You can do all the research in advance and all that stuff, but at the end of the day, you truly don’t know. That’s what makes it fun. You just have to try and make the most responsible decision that you can. We thought about it. There was one enticing one, but we just felt like or felt that with the depth of the group right there and how the board was falling, felt it was the most responsible thing to stay put. Now, when Holmes said he got a pretty enticing offer, we’re left to assume it may have been the Philadelphia Eagles willing to trade up to get Jiad Campbell. Now, looking back, both teams got the guy they wanted. The Lions drafted Tyreek Williams. The Eagles got Jiad Campbell without having to move up. But this further confirms to me, I think a part of why Brad didn’t want to move back was the threat that the Buffalo Bills were going to take Tyreek Williams. So again, to all the people that think and maybe still think that Tyreek Williams was a reach, there had to have been some feeling from Brad that man, we can trade back and get assets, but at what cost? would do we lose out on the guy we really want and Brad has shown like he has shown plenty of other times if he loves a player he’ll either a go up and get him or he’ll b he’ll stay put and select that player and there’s always a risk if you move back you may not get the guy you originally wanted and you have to be comfortable with a couple of guys that were there and Brad even admitted that the pool for them was slimming down so I love reading stuff like this guys because to all the c the crowd out there that still maybe believes that Tai league would been a second round pick. I I promise you the Buffalo Bills would have taken him. U he even confirmed that when he spoke to the media here locally, Tyreek Williams and he said the Bills told him if he was there they would have taken him. They met with him with a top 30 visit and all signs pointed to Tyreek being off the board if the Lions wouldn’t have selected him. So the Lions had an opportunity to trade back. They didn’t. They took their guy and I’m glad they did. We loved the Tyreek Williams pick. We talked about it ever since day one when we reacted to the pick and people were upset about it and I understand the edge thing but still you look at the player I’m glad they took Tyreek Williams but what do you guys make of this if do you think Brad should have taken the trade? Do you think Tyreek would have been there? I’ve already spoke. I don’t think he would have. I think the Bills would have selected him and then the Lions would have to pivot and take someone else. So you get they get their guy and if there’s any GM that you you know if they say they get their guy you’re confident in Brad Holmes is one of those GMs. So, especially in the first round, you got to make that pick count and he did by taking Tyl Williams. But comment down below. Let me know your thoughts on this information. What do you think of it? Are you happy Brad didn’t take it? It ended up working out for both teams anyway. But I thought this was very interesting. So, I wanted to share with you guys. But check out our live show tonight, 8 to 10 p.m. We’ll be live. We’re talking to Ahmed Hassan’s brother tonight to really tell his story and everything about it. So, be please be there. Tune in. Come hang out. But until then, I will catch you. Good pick going to be a starter
The eagles did move up one spot
If Brad would've traded back he wouldn't have been able to draft Williams. The Bill's were going to draft him at 30. T Williams is obviously the guy the Lions wanted, and they got him.
I know T Williams was a reach and was a 2nd round player. I know this because Mel Kiper said so! It's not like Mel Kiper had Sheduer Sanders ranked as the number 1 quarterback and should've been taken with the 1st pick. That would've been a ridiculous evaluation
Good no trade don’t give Phila anything 💯
Brad is smarter than all of us.
DT is super underatted, when you get pressure up the middle, (or even just stuff the run )is a huge! QBs always say iddle presure is the worst cause you cant step up in the pocket
I guess we have different ideas of what "Massive" is.
As a Lions fan I don’t care at all about this information….I Trust in Brad💯💯💯💯
When there is very little detail in terms what was offered it is hard to call this a massive offer or to judge if it was the right call saying no.
The Eagles only gave up a fourth rd pick to move up one spot. Whereas the Falcons gave up a future first to swap pick 46 to for pick 26. The Eagles called the Rams but the Rams liked the Falcons offer more. Which means there wasn't going to be a 2026 1st included in the Eagles offer to LA for a 6 spot move, and most likely not an extra or future 2nd either since the value a 26 was 700 pts vs the value at 46 being 440 pts for a difference of 260 points which is a 3rd rd pick difference.
If you just use the generic pick value between 26th & 32nd it is a 4th rd pick. Now of course the generic model is absent emotion, need & leverage so you have to assume the team being offered a deal is going to counter with a much higher asking price than what a chart says. So you have to assume the Lions would have countered with asking for a 2nd or even maybe reached for the stars and asked for a future 1st. Allowing the Eagles to offer a round more in compensation than the chart says and went with a 3rd.
A 3rd is great value for a 4 spot switch. I would even goes as far to say they could have made the trade. Then after Philly picked called Washington to move from 32 to 29 for a 4th and pick swap later in the draft and still got Williams. That additional 3rd from Philly is a huge chip that can be moved for multiple picks or prevents them from giving up two 2026 3rd rd picks to draft Teslaa
We all want more draft capital for our team, but if there's a steep dropoff on Brad's board after Tyleik, trading back is too risky.
I trust Brad Holmes he's done great so far.
I would need the details of the trade to know how I would feel either way.
I hate taking a DT in round 1.
But man. Rounds 2-3 really knocked it out of the park. And I now think they got just as good a player in round 2 as they did round 1.
So, they got a couple just under blue chip prospects. Thats a win.
Doubt eagles wanted Williams probably still ended up with their guy anyways
Teams want their guy, not yours or your favorite punit
Without knowing what they offered no one can say wether on not they should have taken it.
We've reached the down time, when there's nothing else to talk about.
Being that the Bills traded up with the Bears in Round 2 in order to select South Carolina DT T.J. Sanders AND again with the Bears in Round 4 in order to draft DT Deone Walker, it's evident that Tyleik Williams would heavily been on their radar screen if lasted to Pick # 30.
I think every hospital in Michigan would have been too full capacity if he would of traded back
All depends on williams, bills were gonna take him so brad made the right move to get his guy
Brad Holmes should have traded down with Philadelphia Eagles, another mistake by Brad Holmes.
Massive? It was like a fifth round pick?
So did they say besides the flip of the 1st round picks what was the additional picks the Lions would have received? Flipping 1st round spots is not really massive unless you see what the rest of the trade really was.
Like Williams but trade back and Campbell would be better or Mike Green
Brad always gets his guy.
this draft was awesome for Brad!!
Just because a mocker or mockers mock player’s at a certain number doesn’t mean they are right. Mocker’s are usually all mocked up.
Brad is doing the "Money Ball" thing and I respect that. 💯🤷🏻♂️
Massive how? You don’t even know what the offer was
MASSIVE REALLY. BS
So Detroit could have had another draft pick cuz nobody in their right mind what's going after Tyleik Williams in the first round, nice job Brad you could have used that pick to give up even more Isaac Teslaa.
Moving back four spots is so MASSIVE, it likely would have been referred to as, “The black hole trade of this century.” Thank god Holmes declined to break the internet.
So trading back 4 spots is considered massive, are you serious
