Panthers’ Sam Bennett Avoids Supplemental Discipline

  1. Well gang, if they won’t do it after a Leafs goalie goes down in the playoffs, all bets are off. Absolutely no holds are barred.

  2. Someone needs to drop this guy next game, I don’t care who. 3 concussions caused in back to back to back playoffs and he gets nothing?
The goalie was hit hard enough to be forced to the hospital and he gets NOTHING!?!?

  3. I honestly think the whole grand mythology around “the Code” and “hockey players police each other” is why officiating is (sometimes) so shitty.

Someone’s going to go after Bennett next game, but that won’t un-concus Stolarz nor do anything long term to deter Bennett.

“Letting the players trade CTI back and forth” is no way to maintain a safe game.

  4. Ok Reeves, you’re up. Run Bob or Bennet or Both. Fuck it, no rules.

  5. Dear Leafs,

Please get up 3-0 on the cats and then put Reavo in for Game 4.

    Sincerely,
    The rest of the league.

  6. It’s pretty clear the NHL doesn’t give two shits about player safety. I’ll never blame a player for trying to squeeze as much money as they can out of any team, because if this league isn’t going to their absolute fucking best to protect players, then they deserve to make every cent they can in case they get taken out by some lowlife goon.

  7. And the league keeps saying they want to protect players and reduce head injuries 🙄

Bennett and Tkachuk run around intentional trying to injure people and the league doesn’t bat an eye

  8. Bennett has dirt on the league. So many suspension worthy plays over the years and absolutely no repercussions.

  9. Justice will be meted out on the ice, followed unironically by some league official exclaiming we need to get a better hold on our game. SMH

  10. I guess we should bring back old time hockey rules because we cant enforce discipline: Run their goalie.

  11. I don’t understand the NHL. Does player safety matter? Very obviously it does not. The next class action lawsuits going to have soo much evidence……

  12. To be fair, no one wants to watch Paul Maurice hold up his fingers to show the disparity in suspensions.

  13. I can totally get the “incidental contact” stuff, dude was playing hard and going for the puck during the incident, so the decision is understandable to me.

But with that said, EVERYONE knows that was 100% intentional, and I hope Bennet gets that receipt sooner rather than later. Fuckin bum.

  14. Colin Campbell made a quick call threatening Parros didn’t he?

Oh is that a reach? Well maybe this conflict of interest shouldn’t exist.

  15. “But the Department of Player Safety doesn’t give suspensions based on outcomes, only the act.”

So why was the fact that Hagel got injured a keypoint on the Ekblad suspension?

  16. Player gets stretchered off and the response is not to hold the player accountable for putting player safety at risk. Too bad the NHL doesn’t have a department for this.

  17. This is why supplemental discipline in hockey is a joke.

Every teams strategy should be to field a guy to take out the other teams best players. Easy win.

  18. I really hate the slow motion replays because it sometimes makes it looks less worse than it is.

Bennett is an absolute master at causing damage where the play doesn’t look “that bad” NHL DOPS should’ve caught onto his antics by now.

  19. This is just opening the door for a Leafs Enforcer to take one for the team and just absolutely annihilate a Panthers player or their goalie.

Any attempt at a repercussion and the leafs can just point to Bennett as the standard for the series. It would make the league look like they are favoring a team and/or hypocrites, which would result in no further action taken.

  20. Don’t normally condone dirty play, but Toronto needs to end Bennett’s season. The league won’t police it because of God knows what, then the Leafs should just make the league safer for everyone. Hopefully enough owners get loud enough and give Bettman an earful to do something.

  21. It’s the NHL guys. Look no further than 1999. EVERY and I mean EVERY SINGLE GOAL was disallowed if someone had so much as a toe nail in the crease but when the Stanley Cup winning goal happened, suddenly there was “a memo” sent to teams earlier in the playoffs. This league is a joke. Best sport, worst league. Period.

  22. Sam Bennett punching someone in the face and injuring them in the playoffs without any league intervention? No! Say it ain’t so!

This is what, the *third* time he’s done this now? It’s a joke.

  23. So does Colin Campbell get a ring as well if his son’s team wins? He is certainly having an impact on the Panthers’ potential success.

  24. What does this clown need to do to get suspended. Repeat offender. 3 years in a row his elbow or first has concussed a player. Where is the accountability. League is really for player safety though right ? Laughable.

  25. This literally could ruin someone’s life but sure let people get away with criminal battery on the ice. The NHL is not a serious operation.

  26. The NHL HATES the Leafs and has quite the distaste for all Canadian teams. Have seen this develop over the past decade or so. Bennett did not need to enter the crease at all. He chose to and timed a stiff forearm into the side of the head. It’s pretty damn clear from every angle! So why is the NHL deciding it was a clean play? Does this make it open season on the goalies? Bennett is no stranger to hurting players with cheap shots. It’s nothing new and the NHL’s response is nothing new as well. What a JOKE!

  27. Supplemental discipline should come from the Leafs if DOPS isn’t going to. Panthers have been playing a brand of hockey that if you can’t beat them, target who is keeping you from winning and hit them hard enough to keep them off the ice.

  28. How is this not a conflict of interest issue with Colin Campbell being Exec VP of Hockey operations for NHL and his son being an assistant GM to the Panthers?
