🔴LIVE 🔴Miami Marlins VS Chicago white Sox /May 09/ MLB Envivo /MLB the show 25

League Baseball on MLB The Show. It’s the Miami Marlins going up against the Chicago White Socks. First pitch coming your way next. So almost ready to get underway and towing the slab in this one. Davis Martin. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point. Maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Xavier Edwards leading things off and takes a strike. on the ground to first and that’s just foul. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. One out. stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. And I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle in kind of has Oh, that got him. Eric Wagaman the next up for the Marlins. Davis. Check swing called strike. And a swinging a miss. Sters stands at first with one out. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Well, he missed a hitable offspe pitch right there. Not sure exactly with the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball. You’re expecting it to make its move at the end. It never does and you’re tied up. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Jesus Sanchez, the next up for the Marlins. Slider right there. One’s the count and foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just is having a hard time catching up. That one missed. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. And he’s registered. Three Ks in this one. No runs, no base hits, no errors, and one man left. Time for the White Socks to go to work. No score. And we’re back. and getting to start Cade Gibson. Well, he’s putting together a really nice season on the mound. Erra in the low threes. Very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage. They’re not trying to just walk and hit singles. They’re trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs. So, when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs, that’s really tough to beat game in and game out. Now, it’s the shortstop, Chase Maid. just missed outside with a breaking ball. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. the line to kick the pitch. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Next pitch is outside and strike two. 3-2 on the way. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Hard hit right side. He’ll do it himself. Going up. One down. Time to check out the lineup for the White Socks. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now. Luis Robert Jr. And Boo, he’s their team leader in home runs. So, you know, the pitchers on that other side, man, they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting. You know, he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop. It’s not fluky at all. He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly. So, watch out when he steps in. Come on, Miguel. Let’s hit it. Miguel Vargas in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. Next offering is in for a strike and they’ll do it again. Oh, he hit him. And that got him pretty flush. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Edgar Carol digs in now. A switch hitter batting right. First pitch misses. Man at first. One away. and a big swing and a miss. Sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss. If he makes contact with that pitch, probably hits into a double play. Late swing fouled off and a ball in two strikes. Fly ball down the line. Come on. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. Batting fourth. Center fielder Louise Roberts. And now it’s Luis Robert. He’s already set a new career best for stolen bases this season. Chris, let’s go. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Slapped foul. in the dirt. Smoked on the ground. A second Out number three. The White Socks leave one scoreless after one. And welcome back to the ballpark. New inning getting started. And here’s the catcher, Augustine Ramirez. Davis Martin back to work. That’s too low. And that’s ball one. Martin, a 6-2 righty. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a change up, and he occasionally uses a curve that clips the zone and it’s one and one. Patrick Johnson behind the plate. Patty Johnson to Sunboo, but I’d ask permission first before I call to that. Does a pretty good job back there. Occasionally, we’ll see a couple of sideways looks from players, but that kind of comes with the territory, right? that misses the zone and that’s ball two. What about an umpire’s height? How much of a role does that play in your experience and what the strike zone is like? Yeah, I think it pushes the strike zone up a little bit, which you know, as a former hitter, you like that. You wanted the ball up. You didn’t want to have to deal with stuff down in the zone consistently. Swinging a foul out of play. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. and a payoff pitch. Gets a piece and stays alive. Fights it off. He’ll see another pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Carol falls it in and there’s one away. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. And now the first baseman, Matt MVvis. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. That one pushed to the left and fouled and it stays fair. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Daneers runner on at first with one gone. And up next for Miami, Dane Meyers and that’s in for a strike. Mvvis the runner at first with one gone in the inning. just missed. And that’s off the outside edge and a count. Two and one. Right through there for a strike. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Makes the grab on the run. Out number two. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Here’s the third baseman, Graham Paulie. Late on that fast ball. If I’m at the dish right now, I am aggressive over the heart of the plate. This guy’s been filling up the strike zone. So, you know, you’re going to get a good pitch to hit. And as nasty as his stuff is, you might as well take all three swings. Foul ball still 0 and two. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first here at the top of the second. In the air, left field down the line. Base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Batt. Now it’s the second baseman, Javier Senoha. Fast for a strike. No score here in the second. There’s the strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Two outs. Finish him. Good job to fight that one off. And a swing and a miss. He’s notched four strikeouts now. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. We head to the bottom of the second. Andrew Vaughn now. Andrew V. I love you, Andy. That clips a corner. Oh, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. That misses the zone. Ball two. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. Hit in the air right field. And that one way back there. And that is way gone. So he blasts one out the other way. It’s one- nothing. That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. So now the DH spot, Josh Palasios. That one misses. Ball one. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. right through there for a strike. And now two balls in a strike. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. Bottom half of inning number two. Fouls one off. Two and two. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. In the dirt, ball three and he grounds one to the right side and he handles it himself for the out. Batty seven. second base Lenning Sosa. And here is Sosa to the plate. Ripped to third and caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Two down, base is empty. And now Brooks Baldwin. That one’s in there. Strike one. Out towards right center field. He’s there. He’s got it. And that will end the inning. But the White Socks get one on a homer. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. All set for the start of the inning. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop Xavier Edwards. Get out of here. The shorts stop takes a ball. Oh, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. That one fouled off. And that’s a little bit high. Fouls one away and now three and two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Sit him down. Base hit left center field. So, a man on base to start the inning. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Now the left fielder, Kyle Sters. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and hardly order coming up right behind them. This is where they need to get going. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Ruer at first with no outs here. This one in the air. MRO. And there’s one away. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Now here’s the Marlins DH. Eric Wagaban. His first at bat was a strikeout. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one out in front with the swing. And that is strike one. Tying run is at first. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Martin checks over to first and he’s back. And that one missing low. Runner on the go. Ground ball to the right side and it goes just fouled. The two two on the way. Battling here as he fouls away. Edwards at first. One gone. And that one hammered. That’s back and off the base of the wall. Coming home. He’s safe. It’s 1-1. A costly mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen. That’s a play you just want to forget about. One out, runner at second. And now Jesus Sanchez. He was a strikeout victim his first time. And that misses. And that is ball one. One out and a runner at second. That one is absolutely belted. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. Runner from second crosses the plate. It’s 2-1. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Fast pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Now it’s the Marlins catcher. Augustine Ramirez. Goal for one. Popped out foul of the catcher his first time out. just missed. Well, Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Chicago, it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right field. Makes the grab and there’s two gone. And now for the Marlins, Matt MVvis. Matt MV. There’s the strike. Ruer at second. Two down. in the dirt. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Sosa the throw to first. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. They get two runs on three hits, no errors, and one left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Marlins two and the White Socks one. Set for the bottom of the third. Now it’s the veteran outfielder Michael A. Taylor. Michael A. Taylor. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Next offering is down low. Swing and a ball popped up. Mvvis should have this one. He makes the grab and there’s one down. Now batting short stop back to the top of the White Sox lineup. Chase Maid steps to the plate for the White Socks. 0 for one. He grounded out to first his last time. Fought off foul. Let’s go Chicago up the middle on the run. Sends it over to first and they get the out. Now batting third base. Now the number two hitter Miguel Vargas. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. Two out, space is empty, swings and misses, and the count even at one. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Slice down the right side. What about him playing another position on defense, one that would require a little more range? Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, it’d surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. Next pitch is outside. And a seed into center. That’s a base hit. And that extends the inning right there. Does a great job of staying in the big part of the field. Man, there are a lot of hits there. Edgar Carol the next to hit fly to right his first time. That one misses ball one. Two quick outs. Needed to get that third one. Wasn’t able to do it. Now you bring up the heart of this order. You got to find a way to get it done right here. You got this. Right through there for a strike. Vargas the runner at first with two gone. Next pitch, not close. Up high. Step off. Throw to first. Vargas dives back in safely. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. Third out. So, one hit is all they get. Three innings complete. It’s the Marlins two and the White Socks one. Here on the south side, John Shi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Dane Meyers. Go check swing now. A look down to first. Yes, he did. That’s a swing. They had a swing and a miss there. Pop dump. Sosa. Puts it away for the out. One down. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. And at the plate for Miami, Graham Paulie one for one with a single so far. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Foul ball. One down. Base is empty. Up and in. Now one and two. Yeah, that’s too high. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Oh, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still laid on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. Senoha in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. And the next pitch is way outside. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. And that one misses up and in. Two and one. Was a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So now back to the top of the order. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Edwards in now. Takes ball one off the plate. Next pitch is outside. Moving for the White Socks in their bullpen. Brandon Iser up and loosening in the pen. Cannon also getting ready. Check on the runner. Senoha back in on a dive. Two and old to cow. Here it comes. There’s the automatic hammered down the right side, but foul. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap. Should definitely score it. Out towards right center. That’s well struck. And that’s got extra bases written all over it. Coming home. He’ll score easily. Robert hustles it back in and the lead runner puts on the brakes at second. Well, that worked out as good as it could have. We mentioned the RBI opportunity with the runner moving on the 3-2 pitch and he cashed in by finding a hole in the outfield. You know, that takes a little extra concentration in the box because of the movement on the base pass. Easy to get distracted. So, that was a really nice job there. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Davis Martin won’t go any further. And it wasn’t his best start, but he kept them in it to this point. And we’ll come back with a new arm. So, out of the pen comes the rightander number 64. And that’s a big potential run out there at second as he comes in trying to keep the deficit where it is for the infielders. They got to be thinking about keeping the ball from getting by them into the outfield any way they can. So, runner at second, two down. Sters will hit next. He’s 0 for one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Two outs and one in scoring position. That one to first and a foul ball. outside low and the count one and two. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Out to center. Robert makes the play and that is that. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. Back after this on the show back at field ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now here’s the big center fielder Luis Robert. Robert Jun. Robert, the native of Cuba, signed with the White Socks in May of 2017. First offering and it just misses. You know, these White Socks doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. That one ripped. Meyers brings it in. One away. Now batting first. And here’s the first baseman, Andrew Vaughn. He’s already homered here in this one. And the first pitch misses for ball one. And that drops in for a strike. And there’s a foul ball. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. Finished him off by blowing it by him up high, but they did a really nice job of setting that pitch up. The plan of attack early on was to keep everything down around the knees. So, that was a good call to change his eye level and run it by him for the K. Digging in Josh Palasios 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. Ball one, no strikes in the air. Left field down the line. That one ops against the fence into second and he’s got a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. That pretty much split the zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay. So a man aboard. So up next for Chicago, Lennin Sosa 0 for one so far. Fast ball is outside. Man at second out in front and fouled to the left side. in the dirt. So, man in scoring position and now the tying run comes to the plate. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. So, one left for the White Socks. Score holds. It’s 3-1. Back here on the south side, ready now for the fifth inning. Now here is Eric Wagaman. Wagaman measures 6’4 in 210 lbs and he’s usually a first baseman but today he’s the designated hitter right through there for a strike. Some people say that first baseman kind of have the day off regularly because they don’t run around a whole lot but when you think about it they are involved in just about every single play and there’s a lot of stress that gets put on their legs. So a welldeserved day at the DH spot for him. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Two, two away. That’s a little bit low. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. So now it’s the four-hole hitter, Jesus Sanchez. First pitch misses. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. Just couldn’t get him to offer at it. And that one is lifted in the air. Robert, he makes the catch. And there’s two down. Now batting number 15. Two outs. Base is empty. Augustine Ramirez. The next up for the Marlins. Bowl for two in this one. Fast ball for a strike. And it’s even up. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. hammers that one deep left field and forget it. He circles the bases and they add to their lead. It’s 4-1. Already playing with a lead and now they’re celebrating a home run. They’re having a great time out there. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. And up next for Miami, Matt Mervvis one for two. Fast ball for a strike. Going on. That one hammered center field. Robert going back on it and that one’s gone. They do it again. Backto back homers. It’s his eighth home run of the year. And they add a run. It’s 51. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Two outs, nobody on. Dane Meyers now at the plate. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in. And we’re at the top of the fifth and a foul ball on the ground right side in time. Devong and the inning is over. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now a 51 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. And we’re back. Here’s the left fielder, Brooks Baldwin. Brooks Baldwin. Gibson back to work. That catches the top part of the zone and it’s 0 and one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. And that skips in the dirt. That’s a ball. Check. Swing on the 2- two appeal to first did not go. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Almost a coin flip for the umpire in that call. But most umpires just don’t want to give pitchers a break up in the zone like that. So a man at first at the plate. Michael A. Taylor laid off man on. It’s time to play a little small ball. Get some base runners. Try to dig yourself out of the hole. Swing and a ball lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. Makes the catch up against the wall. Now batting the shortstop, Chase Meiser. Yeah, it’s a really nice catch right there near the wall. And you have to use everything available to you. Know when your feet leave the grass and hit the warning track. Also, when you’re able to use the bare hand to feel for exactly how close you are. And right there, perfect use of his instruments. Chase Maid steps to the plate for the White Socks. He’s grounded out a couple of times. He swings and misses at the first pitch. 0 and one. Miami’s bullpen with some action. Sandy Alcantara, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Meyer warming up as well. The shorts stop takes a ball. The 1-1 is fouled off. Baldwin leads off first with one away. and down on strikes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Next to hit, Miguel Vargas. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. Splits the plate. That’s strike one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper. Make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Dives, but it falls. And now it looks like extra bases coming home. He’ll score. wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. So, runner at second, two down. And now the catcher comes up to him. Edgar Carol fouled off left side. Rudder at second. Two down. Last half of inning number five. On the ground and that’s a fair ball. Vargas headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Man in scoring position with two away. And next will be the cleanup hitter Luis Robert Jr. That’s outside and it’s one and0. the strategy of winning a ball game when you can make that pitcher work a little more, expose himself by throwing pitches, that can be the key to winning perhaps later on. So, a good job of extending this inning, getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up. Oh, right to the back stop. Carol up to third on the wild pitch. Have to be really sure you can make it safely to third when you’re in scoring position and two outs. Got to get that run across. Very important. Does a nice job of reading it. Gets to third base now just 90 ft away. Runner at third. Two away. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. It’s his sixth home run of the season and we are starting over. It’s 55. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now. Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like he was going to foul. Was able to keep it in there, tucked it nicely, and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. Here comes the skipper. And we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Cade Gibson departs and it’s going to be a start that he’d like to get a redo on. Not his best. Back with a new arm in a minute. Sandy Alcantara into the game. Still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpin has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs. Kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Andrew Vaughn steps to the plate for the White Socks and first offering is fouled off. That one line to the left field and that’s base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Here’s the White Socks DH. Josh Palasios. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Swings through that. One. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the Ah, that’s strike three and the third out. So, we take a break. So, they get four in the inning and have it evened up again. Five innings complete. We’re all tied up 55. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher, Brandon Eert. And he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So, he’s looking for better right now. Giving up more than a hit per inning. And now third base. First pitch just misses. Activity in the pen for the White Socks. Steven Wilson getting loose out there. Wilson getting cranked up as well. Come on. And that’s outside outside and it’s 3 and 0. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. There’s the strike up high. And now three and one. Line drive and foul ball. swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Taylor makes the grab. One away. Now batting second base. Javier Senoha getting ready to hit. Come on. And that drops in for a strike. One out. Base is empty. A little bit high and one and one. Swing and a miss. struck him out looking. I can’t argue with that one. And clearly he was looking for something else. Anything but the breaking ball. It’s a great pitch to hit right there if you’re looking for it. And kind of a gift in a two strike out, but sometimes you just get fooled and you got to tip your cap. And first offering is fouled off. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Let’s go. Come on. You can do it. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Two down. Doan. Caught him looking for the K. Nothing doing for the offense that time. 789 do up in the home half of the inning. We’re all tied up 55. And welcome back to the ballpark. Well, we go bottom six. Here’s the second baseman, Lennin Sosa. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Jesus Tanokco the young right-hander up and throwing. Foscher also throwing and that’s a little bit high and the count is 2 and0. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. All right, right through there. Got him. One away. Bottom of the six. Well, he froze him with the change up right there. And I think he was so geared up for fast ball once he recognized that it was off speed, he just wasn’t able to make an adjustment. So, a really good strikeout and pitcher just won the battle. Baldwin in the box with one away as he takes ball one. And that one fouled off. All tied up here in the bottom of the six. ground ball left side sends it to first and that quickly two away. Now batting right fielder Michael A. Michael A. Taylor steps to the plate for the White Socks. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively. Chris, and when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. That’s in there. Strike one. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. Yeah, the two-1 hammered but foul. Hit on the ground to the right side and it’s through for a hit and that keeps the inning alive. Now batting short stop. So the batting order turns over. Chase Maid the next to hit 0 for three in this one. Pitch in the dirt. Ball one. Taylor off of first with two away. All right, so let’s go. And that’s through there for a strike. And the count one and one. And that is out of play. That one not close. Now two and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. swing and a ground ball up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit. So that’s two straight two out hits. Back-to- back base hits. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. So up next, Miguel Vargas in for a strike. One and one. Late swing, fouled off. Two aboard, two outs. That one just missing inside. And the count one and two. And it’s a strike out for the Sandman. His second of the game. White Socks strand a couple. And this remains a five5 ball game. We go to the top of the seventh now. The left fielder Kyle Stardyle pitch is in there. It’s 0 and one. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Go ahead. Run on base. Now at the plate, Eric Wagaban right through there for a strike. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. The go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. swing and that ball smashed on a line out of here. He sends a rocket to left and they take the lead. It’s 75. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball. Excellent extension and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. Now, the White Sox manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen. Brandon Iser out of the game. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. The new pitcher in the game, Jacob Amaya. Well, I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team. And there’s not a player in the league that doesn’t get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old squad. And the batter now, Jesus Sanchez. First pitch misses. and delivers outside and a foul ball. Makes the count two and one. Swings and pulls it foul to the right side. That one drifts inside line drive. Base hit. Everything came together for him. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Augustine Ramirez the next up for the Marlins. He’s already homerred in this game. Swinging a foul straight back. Nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the top half of inning number seven. Over to first and he’s safe. Just missed. The one-1 is fouled off. And that one upstairs. Nobody out. Runner at first. Pitch misses there. And now it’s three and two. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. So now three and two. Are you kidding me? Fired to second and he’ll hold on to it. So they get one. Now batting the first baseman, Matt MVvis. And now for the Marlins, Matt MV. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. Still only one out here in the inning. And another ball. There’s the strike. They’re now three and one. And a foul ball. 3-2 now. Swung on. Belted and it one hops the wall. Cut off. Throw to second. Safe and that’s his third hit. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Loud contact leads to the double. I mean, you could tell it had extra bases written all over it as it jumped off of his stick. So, two in scoring position with one out. And now the center fielder Dane Meyers golden opportunity right here. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Don’t be surprised. to ball on the ground to the corners that they come home with the baseball instead of going to first base. Ramirez on third. Mervvis at second with one away. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. Big strikeout right there and that kind of takes the pressure off the defense a bit. Infield was in. So now they can move back, give themselves more time on a grounder to make a play. A lot more ways to work out of this and strand that runner at third now. Next to hit Ram Paulie and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two on, two outs. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. And there’s a ball. swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. One runs in. He’s in there. It’s nine to five. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. Well, there’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Two outs, runner on first. Javier Senoha will hit next and it’s fouled away. Now a screamer into the outfield and that’s just foul. Really nice swing as he gave that one a ride the opposite way, but it sliced just foul down into the corner. That had extra bases ridden all over it if it stayed fair. catch inside. There’s a swing and a drive and foul ball. Two outs. That one ripped right center field and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases coming home. He will score. He went up there and got it with two strikes. I’m not going to leave this in the umpire’s hands. I’m going to be aggressive. It was in a location where he could get those arms extended that he loves to do. So, nice job right there coming back in that at bat. Now, the White Sox manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen. Jacob Amaya done for the night and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. White Sox going with a new arm. Jonathan Canon. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers in their numbers, but I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. Here’s the shorts stop at the plate. Xavier Edwards went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. Swinging a popup. Dives for it. Got it. Makes the play. Making it look easy at the Keystone position. Definitely worth another look. He’ll get some high fives when he gets into the dugout. Bottom of the seventh. Now it’s the White Sox catcher Edgar Carroll. Leading off for the White Socks. Catcher number seven. This to third. Handles. throws to first and one away in the bottom of the seventh. Now batting center fielder Louise Luis Robert now pitch misses and that is ball one. One down. Base is empty. Base knock right field. Andrew Vaughn digs in now. One more. Let’s go. missed with a change up. And that’s ball one and that one clips the corner. Ah, he doubled up on the off speed there. We talk about the power fastball, but he’s working a little differently here. And it is two and one. Two and one the count now. He hasn’t seen a fast ball yet, but you’ve got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count. That one fouled off. Two and two. Robert leads off first with one away. Strike three. Got him. Looking on the change up. The batter now, Josh Palasios. One for three. Josh Palasios. Just missed. That’s off the inside corner and it’s two and one. Tapped out in front of the plate onto first. That is the inning. Starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Marlins 10 and the White Socks five. Back at right field in the top of the eighth. And at the plate for Miami, Kyle Sters Cannon measures 6′ 6 in 225 lbs and he was a third round pick in 2022. That’s off the mark and it’s one and0 and that’s in the dirt. Let’s go white. Off the mark there. And it’s three and 0. And there’s the automatic. And he takes a strike. Ripped to short to first. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Now batting number 33. So digging in Eric Wagaban. Fast ball for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Just missed and a swing and a miss. One ball, two strike swings and misses. hits a strike out. Went back to the sweeper and it was effective. Up next for the Marlin, here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Jesus Sanchez, swings through the fast ball up in the zone. Definitely not a pitch location you’re expecting up there as a hitter when you know the guy’s got a good sinker ball. If he can get in that location, boy, you’ve got to look top to bottom and that’s going to make it very difficult to hit. Next offering is in for a strike. I wouldn’t say the game’s close right now, but it’s not out of reach either. I mean, these pitchers really need to put up a zero on the board just to maintain a little hope. Slow roller to first. Vaughn, he takes it on his own. Marlins set down in order. Nothing doing for the Marlins. They still lead it though 105. And we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Max Meer and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Lenny Sosa now at the plate. Second base Lenny Sosa and ball one. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. No need to offer at that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch headed towards the corner. And that’s a foul ball. And the one two misses to even the count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Oh, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. He’ll have some adjustments to make. Highfly ball down the left field line. That’s back there and it’s out of here. his fourth home run of the season. It’s 106. His bat looks like it’s in the zone for such a long time and that gives him the ability to get barrel on it and hit the ball out to any part of the park. One down. Michael A. Taylor steps to the plate for the White Socks. Now a drag bunt third base side. Bare hand scoop. Gathers and throws on the money. Nice play. Well, he gave the bun a shot there but not able to execute. Yeah, I think he rushed it a little bit. And when guys rush, can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player. Two down, base is empty. And now the short stop. Chase Maid just missed. Two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next pitch is outside. There’s a strike. Nasty 20 slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. And that’s downstairs and outside in for a strike. And now it’s three and two. Three to one count. Saying to himself, I’ve got to get a fast ball here. Just spins a get me over breaking ball to bring the count full. And that squirts through. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Now batting third base and up next for Chicago Miguel Vargas. That one missed. Next offering in there for a strike. And now it’s even one and one. Next offering is fouled back. Maid off of first with two away. This one in the dirt. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. And there’s a ball. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch up the middle. Tosses to first and that’ll do it. But not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s now a 106 ball game. We go to the ninth. Now it’s the Marlins catcher, Augustine Ramirez. Cannon back to work. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Movement for the White Socks in their bullpen. Camboozer up and throwing. Number 21, the right-hander loosening up as well. It’s in and out of his glove and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Now batting first base Matt MVvis. Matt MVvis the next to hit. And it may be a long shot but a triple here will give him the cycle. Come on. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field and a foul ball. Close but called a ball. One and one. Base is empty. One away. You’re in the top of the ninth. And now two and one. That’s out. That’s ball four. Tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. He tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Here’s the center fielder, Dane Meyers. struck out on just three pitches last time. Swing and a miss. Ball one there. Strike two. And the sweeper misses. Two-2 in the dirt but kept close and ball four to a board. batting. Two on, one out. Now the third baseman, Graham Paulie. A chance for more damage right here. Couple of RBI’s for him in his last AB. Called strike. A sinker at the bottom of the zone. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. The one-1. There’s the swing and a miss. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s the second out. So, first and second with two outs. And up next for Miami, Javier Senoha. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. Fair ball coming home. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single. It’s 11 to six. Stop Xavier Edwards. First and second, two outs. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. And the first pitch is drilled in the air out to center. And that is that. But the RBI single pushes across a run on now to the bottom of inning number nine. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here on the south side, we head to the bottom of the ninth. Now it’s the White Sox catcher Edgar Caro. Swing and a miss as he was out front. This guy’s usually not one to chase pitches off the plate, but he did there. We’ll see if he can tighten up his zone a little bit. drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. This one could be trouble around first and hustling for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy, didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Runner in scoring position, no outs. So here’s Robert now and that misses ball one. All one. No sight. And another ball. Next offering upstairs. And a swing and a miss there. Three balls, one strike. And ball four, two aboard. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Now batting first base, first and second, no outs. And next to hit for the Socks, Andrew Vaughn. And that one is inside. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. First and second, no outs. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Ground ball right side. Could be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Now batting designated hitter So up next for Chicago, Josh Palasios, one for four with a double and first offering is fouled off. Caro the runner at third. Vaughn at first, one gone. Next offering is fouled back. Got him swinging. White Socks down to their final out. Now it’s the second baseman, Lenny Sosa. Second baseman, Lenny Sosa. And that’s outside. One and0 ripped on a line and he’s got it. Ball game and the Marlins slug their way to a win in this one. Start of a new month is a great chance to hit the reset button. Whether you’re coming in hot or cold, getting that win today is a great feeling to continue through the rest of the month. 116 the final in this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami saying so long.
