Miami Dolphins Rookie Minicamp Day 1 Recap!

Day one of Miami Dolphins rookie mini camp wrapped up a few hours ago and we got a lot to talk about from it, including Kenneth Grant saying all the right things. The tone in the trenches on both sides are going to be changed between what he said and what Jonah Savaniah said. I cannot wait. Also, speaking of Jonah Savina, we’re going to talk about his contract situation. I told all y’all that Jaden Higgins thing would come back and bite us, and it took not even 24 hours. Smash that like button. Subscribe if you are new. We’re going to break it down. Let’s get into it. [Music] [Applause] You have got to be kidding me. [Music] Touch [Music] Yeah. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Beautiful day to be a dolphin dance. Let’s [Music] go. What is good, Finn Nation? What’s good? It’s your boy Reason. We’re back here for another one on this beautiful Friday. I say beautiful because in a sense football is somewhat back, baby. Rookies in mini camp kicked off today. I man, we’re going to talk about it. Some great great stuff from the media availabilities. I got a couple portions I want to talk about. Some contracts were signed. We’re going to talk a lot about what went down today. Appreciate all of you coming through. Before we get into all that, do me the favor. Smash that like button. Subscribe if you are new. All right, now let’s talk about it. First of all, Browns rookie mini camp. That was something to follow on uh on on on X today. Let me tell you that. All right. Let me tell you that. All right. Like, I’m sitting here watching this and listen, now we’re getting into a ridiculous little area with Shidor Sanders here. You know, listen, I can pat myself on the back that I was right when I told y’all and I warned y’all that there could be there’s a world where Shuck and Milro go ahead of him. I, you know, now I still always when I say that, I still always say this. No one. And then if they do tell you they did see this coming, they’re lying to you. No one saw Dylan Gabriel going ahead of them. And anyone tells you different, they’re lying. That’s number one. Okay. Dylan Gabriel should not have went but in front of Short Sanders. But what have I said this whole draft class? You bet on the upside and you bet on the traits in a weak class. And that that’s what I told y’all that like I told all y’all, hey man, if it wasn’t for age and it wasn’t for injury, Tyler Shuck would probably be vying for number two with Jackson Dart on my board, right? If Jaylen Milro was a better passer, he’d be ahead of Shadur, too. And what did they do? All the teams saw that and bet on it. Anyways, the mocking is getting a little out of hand, people. All right. And I see these NFL accounts. You know, you got Shidur throwing checkdowns and screens and people out here, oh, Shidor’s out here making all the tough passes. Come on, man. Like, they don’t even have pads on. He’s just getting comfortable. He’s throwing to guys he’s never thrown to before, you know, like let’s stop mocking this kid, man. You know, like it’s it’s Listen, was it kind of funny to watch the slide to a sense, but I stopped laughing when Dylan Gabriel went cuz now I said cuz I understood, right? I predicted and I understood why Shuck and Milro might have went ahead of him. So that was like, okay, I’m laughing cuz I’m like, yo, all these people were telling me there’s no way these guys can go ahead of him. Haha. But then when Dylan Gabriel goes ahead of Shinuro, I’m like, “Okay, now now this is more than a tape thing.” All right. Now this is a more than a traits and an upside and a tape thing. Now we’re just being flatout disrespectful taking Dylan Gabriel ahead of this kid. Let’s be real here. And I stick by that, man. You know, I’m objective at the end of the day. I got a horse in this race. But are people out here mocking this kid throwing checkdowns or throwing screens? Like, you know, come on, man. Like, let the kid do his thing in rookie mini camp. It’s already going to be so much of a circus at the fact that look at the quarterback situation right there. You know, it’s you traded, you know, they they traded for a backup quarterback that they’re kind of stuck with now, right? And it it’s it’s kind of ridiculous, you know. I don’t know. It’s like they traded for one, then they drafted two. Like, you know, like it’s just a disaster over in Cleveland, you know. Uh, you know, you bring in Old Man Flacco, you trade for Kenny Picket, you draft Dylan Gabriel in the third, then you come back and you take Shadur in the fifth, and then you still got Deshawn Watson on the roster. What a nightmare that they’ve created over there in in Cleveland for Stfansky and crew. I I a good and yo I’m gonna tell you this right now. Shadur should make that team. Shador is better than Dylan Gabriel. You know I think Shinur is better than Kenny Picket. I don’t think Kenny Picket should have went as high as he did. Go back to that draft class. I hated that. I was not a fan of Kenny Picket coming out. Remember, I was a Sam Howell guy and look at where Sam Howell went and where Kenny Picket went and relative to their success as starters. You know, if Jaden Daniels didn’t come to Washington, Sam Howell might be still starting right now. Sam Howell was actually showed he could be a competent starter. Kenny Picket was I I I didn’t like him at pit. Hated him at Pit. I was just not a fan of Kenny Picket whatsoever. Right? You know, I would have bet on Malik Willis’s upside and sure enough looked like a disaster in Tennessee goes under Lafleur and look at what Willis looks like under Lafleur. That’s why I wouldn’t sell all my stock on Will Levis quite yet. I think Will Levis needs to get out of that situation and go to a quarterback friendly situation because the traits are there. He’s played for a couple years as a starter, so he’s done the film work. He’s seen the defense, etc., etc. Go get him with a good quarterback mind and then see what you got there. Tennessee, you know, like I mean we go back since McNair, what have they really done other than that little blip with Tanahill, right? They ruined Vince Young. Say what you want, but Jeff Fischer, we learned he almost ruined Jared Goff when he had golfer’s rookie year with the Rams, too. And thank god they got rid of Fischer, right? But like it’s not a quarterback friendly play. Look at Malik Willis. Look at what he was destined to. and and and driven into and and the lower tier of quarterback everyone thought he was at Tennessee because of what he had shown there and everything he had around him. Goes and has a couple, you know, we goes and has an off seasonason at Green Bay, gets a chance to start when Love goes down and everyone’s like, “That’s the guy we saw at Liberty.” There you go. Right. because he got with a good franchise and one that knows how to develop quarterbacks and etc., etc., same thing here. You know what I mean? So, yeah, with Will Levis, let me see what he can go do somewhere else. For real, let me go see what he can do somewhere else. So, and because there are certain things you can take out of him by coaching, you know, I see someone in the chat, his problem is boneheaded turnovers, not on coaching. Brother, what do you think coaching, one of the things about coaching is supposed to make you do? Supposed to take that away. You’re supposed to help him become a better decision maker. like coaching comes into he’s clearly not afraid or he he’s clearly clearly the message isn’t being driven home that yo you can’t do this because he goes out there and he plays backyard ball sometimes but I think that was also to a point of the lack of structure in Tennessee. So, you know, Will Levis has the physical traits, go get him with a good quarterback coach. Guys come better decision makers with better coaching, right? So, you know, instead of anticipating this window, why aren’t you reading this safety or this corner and seeing that window is going to close? You need to anticipate this window. Don’t force that. So you can definitely you know you can def I mean look at Jamus Winston. Jameus Winston you know like listen is he a starter? No. But is he the turnover machine he was when he went 30 for30? No. Lasic surgery but also he became he’s become a bit of a better decision maker as he’s got older and he’s gone through and been with different coaches. It’s the same thing. It’s all about coach. It’s all about who you put someone with. So, and yeah, we’ll see what happens. I can’t wait to see what happens because I think Cam, speaking of Tennessee, I think Cam is going to be the best quarterback in Tennessee since McNair. I I I think Cam’s going to be really I you know, does Cam need work? 110%. Cam needs um quite a bit of work, especially with how nonchalant he can get in the pocket. He needs some work. Um he needs, you know, some mechanic work as well. Um but he’s got something that I’ll always go back to that I think is going to translate for Cam Ward at the NFL. I can’t stress this enough. This man has winners DNA. This man has that fourth quarter DNA. He knows when to turn it on in big moments. Even with a lackluster defense, he will. He’s the He’s shown, I’ll carry a lackluster defense and give us a shot in the fourth quarter. Just give me protection. If you protect me, I’ll give us a chance. Even if that defense ain’t good, he’s got that DNA. I’m telling you, man. Get that. Put a good team around him. Continue to develop him properly. Honestly, I would have got a veteran starter and I would have sat him for one year, develop him properly, even though I think he’s the only one in this class that’s worthy of starting year one. Maybe Tyler Shuck is the other one that I’ve said is maybe you know Tyler Shuck is probably the second most pro ready but you know anyways which is you know I’m on record of saying that but I would have given him one year built that team in front of him and I honestly think once Cam gets a taste of those playoffs yeah I got a feeling this kid’s going to be a different animal man. I I I really do. So I you know I and it’s I go back to fourth quarters and second halves. What was the one thing you know we talk about Tua let’s rever let’s make this about Tua like all the people like to do. All right let’s make this about Tua. All right perfect example I’ll tell you right here. Okay people push that fake narrative about you know Tua can’t beat good teams. You know, Tua can’t show up in big games. That’s a fake narrative. It’s a halftruth. If at best, if you want to call that, what have I said for years, and this is what I will continue to say? It’s not that he can’t or doesn’t know how to show up or win in big games. It’s he can, he doesn’t do it consistently enough. And I always go back to what was the problem at Alabama? How many second halfs did he play? How many close fourth quarters was he playing in? Think about it. Really right now you go to the LSU game. They should have won that game. He should have beat Burrows LSU. Go back. Do the work. Jerry Judy dropped an he was wide open walking into the end zone. Dropped the pass. And this was from a slow start and a bad first half by Tua. Anyways, my whole point is, you know, Joe, you’ve heard Joe Burrow talk about it, right? Why is Josh Allen so good in the fourth quarter and in big moments? Why is Patrick Mahomes so good in the fourth quarter and in big moments? Because when you’re at Wyoming, when you’re at Texas Tech, you’re taking every rep. Most games are going to be close. How many teams are you really going to blow out? And then even when you’re blowing out these far from being ranked teams, they probably still playing into the fourth quarter. But then when you are facing these ranked teams or having to go play an SEC team, you’re playing into the fourth quarter cuz your team ain’t built like Alabama was. You know, this is why we saw, you know, go look at the second game in Buffalo last year. Tulle puts up the second highest EPA ever against the MC a Shawn McDermott led Buffalo Bills team, but the defense puts up one of the worst EPA performances ever against the Buffalo Bills team as does our special teams, right? Go back to Kansas City and Germany. Tyreek Hill lost that that game alone. His drop and then his f his drop at the 30 and then his fumble at the 31 that cost us a 13 to 21 point swing. in Kansas City Chiefs favor. So that I mean that game’s on him, you know, but then yeah, you have games where he just doesn’t look good like against the Texans. He didn’t look as sharp as he looked against like Arizona, you know, or Buffalo in the second game. Yeah. Then we get that and again this comes down to reps and that’s what I don’t understand how people don’t get this. This is why we’re going through the pains with McDaniel because he’s going through these reps of learning in fourth quarters big moments. This is why it’s taking, you know, now obviously he’s a little slower than others, especially with the time management thing. So, we should be, you know, breaking that huddle with about 20 to 15 seconds left with all the motion we have. But instead, we’re breaking this huddle with 9 seconds. So, Tua has no chance to audible because you got two or three motions. You know, so we’re going through it, all this stuff. And then when we brought in guys who were supposed to have been there and done it, Tyreek Hill won a Super Bowl, a lot of key drops in big moments. We’ve talked about this for when it wasn’t even popular in the media. I was talking about this two years ago on this channel. Tyreek and his drops in big games. All right. Thank God for Waddle the next play against the Cowboys. Or would we even been in a position to kick the field goal at the end of the game and actually clinch a playoff birth? Holy gez. Any, you know, so so many factors, so many varying factors and it’s it it’s crazy, man. It’s it’s it’s and I think you know that’s the difference. Cam Ward has been in those put in those positions, right? from Incarn Ward to Washington to now Miami. That’s where you can see and that’s why you see certain guys thrive more in that moment, especially from a younger age. It’s all about reps, man. Everything in this game is all about reps. Why do you think people who were so high on Cam Smith and the film that he had coming out aren’t so high on him right now? And it’s not just and it’s because the injuries have taken away the ability for him to get the reps. And now we’re going into year three and he’s basically he doesn’t even have as many reps as someone who would have played their full rookie year. What are we supposed to expect? Look at how behind the curve this kid could be. you know, this game is and especially at positions like quarterback, cornerback, you know, certain offensive line positions, reps are, you know, mics, guys who are going to wear the dot on their helmet, you know, reps are everything, man. It’s how you become who you’re going to become. So, um, it it’s it’s kind of crazy. It’s kind of crazy where we’re at and all that. Anyways, um but I believe in Cam Ward. I I truly do believe in Cam Ward. I truly do believe in Cam Ward, man. And it’s because that trait, you know, it’s because of that fourth quarter, that winner’s DNA trait. You can see it in them, man. Give that guy a taste of the playoffs. He’s going to be one of those guys who always wants to go back. Always wants to go back. Is going to do whatever it takes. I can’t wait to watch him this year, to be honest with you. It’s going to be interesting to see the ripple effect of that whole whole class. And you know, I know this all started with off Candy Picket and stuff like that. But listen, I know I see someone in the chat. He deserves all the mock he gets for his ridiculous behavior. Hey man, listen. These are young kids at the end of the day. Do I think Shadur’s acted, you know, ridiculous at times? 110%. I was calling him out during the season. I don’t like how he was calling out his offensive line. That’s not what a leader does. But this kid’s going to get humbled. He going to learn real quick. So, let’s see what he does, man. You know, everything is his story hasn’t been written yet. So, he’s got a chance to start a new clean slate. Let’s see what he makes of it. That’s on him. You know, I’m still Jackson Dart for life, though, baby. All right, let’s get into this and let’s get into day one of the Miami Dolphins rookie mini camp because it was quite interesting. Let’s start off with how kind of the day started off because this day it started off with seven of the Miami Dolphins eight draft picks being announced as having signed Miami Dolphins signed seven of their eight draft picks Friday morning ahead of the start of rookie mini camp. Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant, Maryland defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, Florida quarterback Jason Marshall Jr., Maryland safety Dante Trader Jr., Oklahoma State running back Olly Gordon II, Texas quarterback Quinn Eur, and Georgia Tech defensive tackle Zeke Biggers. All pen to paper and agreed to their rookie contracts. That leaves only offensive lineman Jonas of Oh, sorry. I I I just rushed through it now. Okay, Jonah Savvaya, whom the Dolphins traded up in the second round to select as the remaining unsigned draft pick from the draft class of two weeks ago. Grant, the first round pick taken at number 13, was inked to a four-year contract worth 22 million according to ESPN. That falls in line with a slot value for where he was selected according to the NFL’s rookie wage scale and includes a $12.6 million signing bonus. Love it. Signing bonuses for this year rookie class reportedly up 26% from last year’s class according to Sportico. Quote, “It was just real crazy just looking at the contract and all that stuff.” Grant said Friday, “It’s surreal. Just, you know, dream come true, but it’s time to work.” Phillips, Marshall, and Trader all selected in the fifth round. Each total about 4.6 million on the scale. Gordon sixth round pick is due to make more than 4.4 million. Uers and biggers as seventh rounders and biggers as seventh rounders are set to make around 4.3 million. The slot value for Sevaya still unsigned as the number 37th pick is 11.3 million. And this is what we got to talk about. I warned you guys all. I warned you guys all yesterday. It didn’t even take 24 hours for the Jaden Higgins guaranteed second round contract to I bet already impact this. I I I’m I’m not even joking. I bet you this has to do with what happened with with Jaden Higgins. That’s why Savia is not signed right now. In case you were wondering again, he told everyone how to pronounce his name today and we’ll get into what something he said today. But uh Sav, it’s Savia. Anyways, what did I say yesterday? I said Jaden Higgins getting this fully contracted. And people in the chat, oh whatever, you know. And I said, “Mark this day.” Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. And by the way, for those who didn’t get my point earlier on Tua, specifically the second game, I just proved to you guys Tua can do enough to beat those games. But when you have a game like against the Buffalo Bills where he has the second highest EPA per play ever against a Shawn McDermott Buffalo Bills team, but then the defense, our defense has one of the worst EPA per play performances ever against the Buffalo Bills Shawn McDermottle le team and our special teams has the worst EPA per play performance ever. What is he supposed to do, right? When one unit is at that elite level, but the two other units are literally in the gutter. The Buffalo Bills game defense didn’t get a stop for the final 40 plus minutes of that game. But people said, “Well, well, Tua can’t be good teams.” Uh, no. Your if your defense would have got a stop in the final 40 minutes of the game, just one, we would have scored enough points to win the game. But your defense didn’t get a stop for 40 plus minutes. But that’s to his fault. See, just tell me you don’t know ball without know. Just tell me you don’t know ball without telling me you don’t know ball when you say that kind of stuff, right? You know. Anyways, with Savia, I I told y’all yesterday when Jaden Higgins when he became the first second rounder to have a fully guaranteed contract ever, I told each and every one of you. Here we are. This is going to start something. And I said, “Hey, if you’re a top 10 pick, you want to get fully guaranteed. I understand that. There’s only 10 guys a year that’ll get that.” Now we’re getting into fully guaranteed picks through the top 40. This is a different beast we’re getting into now. And you know why Savia has got a case? You trade it up for him. That’s why he’s got even more of a case than a guy like Jaden Higgins. You trade it up for him. And since then, it’s leaked out that he was going to go at 38 anyways. So, Higgins was the third was the 34th pick. Savia was the 37th, but you traded up for him. So, he’s gonna sit here and he’s going to sit and he’s gonna say, “Pay me. It It’s kind of crazy. I listen. Hey, get your money.” I’m not even judging him on that. I’m just telling you guys this is what I warned you about yesterday, but we’re already seeing it potentially because I’ve already see seen rumblings. I haven’t checked in with anyone yet, but I’ve seen rumblings that this is what it’s probably potentially about. I’m just saying. I can’t confirm 110% because I haven’t talked to my people, but I’m seeing little rumblings that this has to do with Jaden Higgins potentially getting his guaranteed deal. So, and there you go. And again, shout out to Anthony in the chat. That’s the homie right there. And what did he just You know, that’s even better. I love this. He says Carson Schwesinger also just signed a fully guaranteed deal as a second round pick. It’s happening. Here we go. I told the top 40. Here we go. Here we go. I told y’all in 101 15 years I wouldn’t be shocked if these are all fully guaranteed contracts. Again, I go back and you people don’t it doesn’t matter. Think of how much money we’re talking guaranteed here. We’re talking about what 12 million guaranteed around there. That’s what Well, Higgins got around what, like 12ish? Got like 11.8 million guaranteed. Go find me. There’s veterans who have been in the league for 10 years that’ll sign a three-year deal and they can’t get 12 million guaranteed. They got to take the league minimum. That’s what I’m sitting here saying. Like, I don’t think you understand the can of worms is opening. It’s kind of similar to remember when the last CBA came around and they started trying to cap because veterans were getting mad at how much money was being handed out to all these rookies who hadn’t played a snap yet and that was a big thing. What do you think is going to this is like the next wave of it is about to start. If second round picks are getting guaranteed contracts right now in five years, third round picks are going to have at least five years are going to have third round picks are going to have fully guaranteed. Here we go. I’m telling you this is I don’t think people understand Jaden Higgins started something and now it’s continued and it’s continuing. Jaden Higgins becoming the first ever second round pick to have a fully guaranteed contract has not led to Carson Schwinger getting one. And I guarantee you that’s in the on the table in the discussion with Jonah Savvaya. Now pay him. I’m not saying don’t pay him, but I’m just saying now this is going to shift cap management. teams that were tightly managing the cap and looking to instead of, you know, giving out a bunch of guaranteed money on the free agents market and voids they have, okay, we can supplement with that with the draft. That’s going to change now a little bit. So, man, this is and remember the cap is expected to go up like 30 million a year over at least the next two years minimum. Two to three years minimum. Here we go. But hey, man, I ain’t going to hate. I started the Kenneth Grant and the Jonas Savia train. So, you ain’t going to hear me hate saying a a negative word whatsoever. Go get paid, boo boo. Let’s go. I need that man protecting. I need that man protecting Tua. And you know what? We’ll start off with his quote even though he was a second to speak today and we usually like to go in chronological order a little bit over here. But I don’t know if you saw what he said today. I they didn’t now they didn’t post the clip. There was no clip. So I just have the actual quote itself. Um and I I did get some of the clips today for sure. So don’t worry about that. But um I don’t know if you look at what Jonah Sava you can say it three different ways. If you look at what Jonah Savinia said today, this is what he said. We want to run the damn ball. Let’s go. All right. Sign this man. He didn’t even need to speak today. I didn’t even need to see any clips. Now, he did say a lot of good things. I do recommend going and listening to Jonah Savinia talk today. You can find it. It’s a It’s pretty good. Um and you can find it on the Dolphins um YouTube after we’re done here. Go check it out. Um now, they didn’t have his full interview. That’s why like this part isn’t in there, but he did say a lot of good things. The kid’s got his head on his shoulders. He’s excited to protect Tua, but man, he’s just so selfless. If you go listen to him today, he was asked about, “Hey man, did you look at that as kind of a negative playing all these different positions?” And he said, “No, it’s wherever they needed me to be. I told them that’s where I will be.” And the loyalty, you know, you’ve heard him talking about blocking for, you know, you know, Samoan and Paulie quarterbacks. You’ve heard him say like it’s his destiny, blah blah blah blah blah. like he was just with Noah Fafida in Arizona now Tua and you hear him talk about that but then you hear like you know when he was asked about you know why he wanted to help turn around Arizona and that program when it’s not like a power program and he just talks about the loyalty man and I really think the Dolphins trading up for him and the Dolphins you know I think that’s going to hold a lot of weight with him man I think you got a player here that’s going to be all procaliber and you got to player here that’s going to want to play all of his prime years in Miami. That’s what I think you got here. And I think you got, you know, I’ve told y’all, man, I saw someone, oh, you know, where’s that nastiness? I only seen him pancake a few times, man. Go watch the film. You see the nastiness on him. You see him how he finishes his blocks and how he looks to finish him, man. You see the power come through him. Just because someone isn’t pancaking a a defender every single time doesn’t mean they don’t have that nasty demeanor. Go look at how he handles himself. I’ve seen him get in some hand fights after the play, you know. But then again, I’ve got access to every year of Jonah’s college career. 99.9% of these people out here talking to you only have access to what they can find on YouTube, right? Like that’s that’s how it works. So man, Pyro, this guy’s going to be a captain. Spy Naya is going to be a C. You can tell year two, year three, this man will be a captain on that offensive line. You know, I’ll be honest with you. I think we replaced Terron Armstead’s leadership with Sai Nia. The issue is Teran Armstead’s leadership is seasoned. We got a guy who he won’t be that like he won’t be viewed or allowed to be speak the way Aaron Armstead could speak in the locker room till year two or three minimum just because you got to go through the rookie stuff. But I do think we have replaced that leadership. It’s just a younger version of it, you know. So that’s what I truly believe with with what we’ve got with Savia. I really do believe that. I think we got a guy with an allp pro ceiling. I think he’s going to be he’s got Hey, will he reach it? I don’t know, but his ceiling is higher than what Robert Hunt was coming out. I’ve said this before and y’all remember I told y’all Robert Hunt was an allp procure guard when people are trying to tell you he was a tackle. I was telling you he’s all procaliber guard. First year he leaves Miami. What happens? He finally gets the recognition he deserves because he left Miami and he goes to the AllPro. Anyways, I think NY has got a real high ceiling, man. A real and he’s a game changer. I think he I love that. I love that about him. All right, so let’s get into some of these people and what they talked about. Let’s go to Kenneth Grant. We got to talk about what Kenneth Grant said. If this doesn’t make you do the Birdman hand rub, I don’t know what will. All right, I got two portions from his media availability today that I want to show you. Check this out. Defensive line has a opportunity to be one of the strongest units on the team. What will that take? Uh, I mean, we got to set the standard, you know? We got to set the tone every day, you know, every day in practice, every game, you know, whatever it is. We we’re the tone setters. We got to, you know, come out and show everybody where we’re about. It’s been a while since this team has won a playoff game, and I know fans are eager to see the Dolphins kind of take that next step. Listen to what he says. Handle handle kind of the pressure of coming in and immediately performing and making a difference. Uh yeah, I mean, there’s always pressure and things like that, but you know, I think me personally, I’m a culture changer. you know, I could change, you know, winning cultures. I come from a winning culture, so I know what a a playoff run is like, but obviously in the NFL is different. But still, you know, I kind of know what that’s like, but going through a 18week season, you know, that that plays a toll. But, you know, just trying to, you know, get learn all the tips and tricks that the older guys, you know, tell Let’s go. See, that’s the mindset we need coming in here. What does this man say? I’ve been to the promised land. I’ve been through the college football championships. I know what it takes to get this done. I will come in here and change this culture. After he’s asked directly, fans want playoff wins and he said, “I’m a culture changer, baby. Let’s go.” This is why you draft this man at 13. That athleticism, that upside as a pass rusher, as a run blocker, the scheme fit, and that mentality right there, that man is going to be a dog right now. him. I’m telling y’all, I like what the first person asked about you guys have a chance to be the best defensive front. This is what I’ve been telling y’all. If those edges stay healthy, let Cer and Grant run point. Let Jordan Phillips, let anyone else, Bonito Jones, rotate in behind them, but let them run point. This could be one of the more dominant run defenses in the NFL. I’m telling you right now, if the if this front seven stays healthy and you saw the vision, they wanted to add Dre Green Law to this. They wanted Dre Green Law. Imagine if we would add Dre Green Law and Jordan Brooks behind this front. Man, you could see why they were kind of like, “All right, we’re shifting a little bit more towards man coverage, so we got to make a shift away from Ramsay and stuff. We’re okay with that, but we want to get this front stacked and we want to be able to beat you a four. We don’t want to have to send a fifth. We want to drop everyone into coverage and we want to kind of do because hey, what the Eagles did kind of fits what Weaver and the Ravens like to do. It all makes sense. It all ties in together as one. And you could tell what the vision is, man. They would have added Drake Greenoff to this. Oh my god. Please. I would have said I if they would have added Dre Green Law, I would sit here and tell you right now they have the best defensive front seven in the NFL. I would actually have that argument with people. But Tyrell Dodson makes me pause on that. But I would sit here and tell you they have at least in the AFC they have the best starting front seven is at least what I would have told you. Man, I love it. I don’t know. How can you not get excited about this kid, man? When you watch the tape, man, you know, think about this, guys. His pass rush potential is untapped. He been winning with athleticism, his length, his mind knowing how to use that length, his power. You know, his pass rush game plan, his pass rush bag of tricks, his counters, they aren’t fully developed yet. And y’all saw what our boy Weaver did with Chop in year one in those three categories. Oh boy. And guess what? Just with those three raw things, the power, the length, the athleticism, he was already matching Mason Graham’s pass rush production. And even if you go from a snap to pressure rate standpoint, it was higher for Kenneth Grant than it was for Mason Graham. Birdman hand wrap. Okay. All right. This kid, sky’s is the limit for this kid right here. I’m telling you, higher ceiling than Christian Wilkins. And I know how many of y’all loved Christian Wilkins. Get excited for this kid, man. Seriously. Now, there was kind of a theme, right? Like you saw say, right? Let’s we want to run the damn ball. You saw Kenneth Grant say we want to set the tone, right? You’re kind of getting this sense of it feels different. And then when you listen to Olly Gordon and then Quinn Yers and what they said, it kind of rounds it up. So, let me show you what Olly Gordon said today specifically about his jersey number. Why 31? Uh, you know, I kind of got stuck with it, but I’m not I’m not complaining. But, uh, I would just say once I got it, I thought about it. It was like, you know, the the Dolphins went out and chose me and it’s 32 teams in the NFL and 31 teams passed on me, so why not use it, you know? Like, you hear the mindset, you hear the the mindset of, okay, you know, I’m not going to cry. I’m going to go make the best of this situation with Olly Gordon, right? And then I want you to listen to what Quinn U says right here. Listen to what Quinn says. Yeah. I mean, just take advantage of every opportunity because, you know, there’s a lot of guys out there right now and um you know, everyone’s fighting fighting for the same job and and we’re all competitive, but it’s cool at the same time just cuz these guys are at the end of the day some of these guys are going to end up being you know, teammates with us and and you know, but you got to you got to earn the job and earn the trust of those guys as well. So, it’s been it’s been cool. when you come in with kind of a chip on your shoulder to kind of prove yourself or what’s kind of your mentality? Um, yeah. I mean, I guess yeah, I didn’t expect to fall as low as I did, but at circumstances being it is what it is at the end of the day and I have the same opportunity as everybody else does and I’m I’m beyond thankful for that and um I just just want to go in there and play my game at the end of the day and and learn and and and develop as a quarterback. So now you hear Queen Uers talking about that chip on his shoulder. See, this is what feels different about this draft class to me is Olly Gordon feels like he’s got a chip on his shoulder cuz 31 teams passed on him. Quinn Eureers chip on his shoulder. Shouldn’t have fallen that far. Jonah, yeah, I want to set the tone in the trenches. We want to run the damn ball. Kenneth Grant, yeah, we want to set the tone in the trenches and I’m a culture changer. And I bet you he got a little chip on his shoulder cuz I know he heard a few people doubt whether he was a good pick at 13. Like it it just feels this draft class all the way down to the backup quarterback you took in round seven. It feels like they all got a little bit of a chip on their shoulder to some degree. Savia wants to show why it’s his destiny like he said to be blocking for Pauline Simone quarterbacks the way he has. right? Like it just, you know, Jordan Phillips, I guarantee you he’s heard the lack of production worries from Maryland, you know, and I just Jason Marshall, I know he’s hurt. People aren’t a fan of that pick, right? You listen to Dante Trader when he talked today, he basically said, you know, don’t matter what you did anymore in college, you know, we basically starting at zero right now. like the realization and the maturity from all of them is very encouraging for me when I listen when I listen to all of them speak today. So I did think that was one of the big positive takeaways for me today and from day one of Dolphins um rookie mini camp. Now, speaking of takeaways, we’re going to get into some takeaways here, cuz there were actually some takeaways thrown out there by some of the people that were present at mini camp today. So, we’re going to talk about a few of those things. But before we do get into those things, just so you guys are aware, here is what all the rookies, these are what numbers that they have been assigned. All right, so Quinn yours is 14, that former Ryan Fitzpatrick number. Dante Trader is now 29. Olly Gordon 31 as you saw. Jason Marshall 33. Jonas of Naya has taken over Taran Armstead’s number of 72. Kenneth Grant is 90. Zeke Bigger is 93. And Jordan Phillips has taken over Christian Wilkins old number of 94. Quinn, yours in the old Fitzy number. Eh, Quinn, you in the old Fitzy number, huh? I don’t know. I’m kind of kind of weird to see. Eh, I would have liked to see him in number three because I know that is his number. Um, but obviously it is what it is. He ain’t he ain’t rocking um number three here in Miami, right? So, I don’t know. I would have liked to see him in three though, you know. But KJ Britt, I think, is the one who took three because these linebackers are in the single digits now, right? So that’s probably why he’s not rocking it obviously is because KJ Britt. So I think that’s interesting. And that’s why, you know, that’s why Zach Wilson had to go with zero, right? Because two was taken by Chub. So we’ll see how it all works out. We will see how it all works out. Continuing on though, here’s just some takeaways. Apparently the main takeaway today was Theo Whis Jr. the Missouri UDFA because Marcel Lu Jacques said, “My thoughts after watching about 30 minutes of Dolphins rookie mini camp. It’s rookie mini camp, but I liked UDFA wide receiver Theo Whis Jr.’s ability to high point the ball in traffic and pluck it out of the air.” He said no other takes. And then Feronis, he doubled down. He said Theo Whis going up and getting it was something to take away. A lot of half speed drills otherwise. Quinn Eurers hit some passes, didn’t hit others, but he’s working with a bunch of receivers. He’s never thrown to. So there you go. Quinn Eureers apparently a little inaccurate today. But Theo Whis was apparently showing off the ability to high point the ball and snatch it out of the air. So I mean that’s that’s I mean that’s something to that’s something to, you know, be happy about, I guess, right? So um yeah, there you go. Um, but again, there wasn’t too much to take away from today from a PA practice standpoint. We all know what was going to go down. But I I did want to talk specifically about what some of the players said because I thought, man, very positive. I don’t know, man. This rap class just has a feeling to it. I don’t know what it is. And then for everyone hoping that there might be a reunion of, you know, Blake Ferguson in Miami, it doesn’t look too positive. We already known they had brought in Neland Hibert, the long snapper from Alabama. Well, the Miami Dolphins went out and they signed Joe Cardona. Now, some of you who are real real real football nerds know who Joe Cardona is. He um he spent, I believe, the last 10 years with the New England Patriots. So, you know, there you go. Spent the first 10 seasons with New England Patriots. Yeah. So, that they brought in a legitimate veteran here potentially. Um and he was like just released like Vrabel like just talked about him. So um you know and he got Cardona he got released for a rookie in New England. They went with uh Julian Ashby. So there you go. um they’ve got a legitimate legitimate vet option if they don’t like what they see from Neland Hibbert. Um with the Joe Cardona ad as well, the roster is now at 91, including Armstead, who a decision has not been made on yet, obviously. Well, I mean, he’s made his decision, but he has not been taken away off the roster. the paperwork hasn’t been filed, but I know a lot of a lot of Patriot fans are, you know, that was the last roster on that was the last former teammate of Tom Brady left on the Patriots roster and he’s now a Miami Dolphin. So, I mean, he’s been there since Dante Scarnia was there, right? So, um, we’ll see how it goes. But there you go. There you go. The Dolphins add another long snapper. So that is what we got. It was a great day one to hear from the rookies to see them in action. Even to see them out on the field stretching, man. Football, you can feel it in the air, baby. It’s getting warmer. It’s getting brighter. It’s getting sunnier. And football’s coming back, baby. Love it. Guys, smash the like button. Subscribe if you are new. Shout out to each and every one of you. 1. What’s the percentage of 1st round pick players reaching even their ceiling yet alone 2nd and 3rd round picks doing it? Now they are getting guaranteed money. The draft is a crapshoot. This is a killer. Especially when you can pay just a little more on a somewhat proven guy on his second contract and less for proven players on 3rd contracts. I think I might want to trade picks for proven players and pay them. That would be a safer bet than guaranteed money to a rookie.
