Jake Oettinger Discusses Dallas Stars vs. Winnipeg Jets Playoff Series, Facing Connor Hellebuyck
take what we learned from the regular season and what we watched in the first round for them against St. Louis and try to use it to help us. What do you take from that first round against St. Louis, specifically game seven? I think, well, yeah, game seven just it’s not over till it’s over. I think they showed that. Um, and then yeah, I think St. Louis, you know, did a good job in front of their net, in front of their own net and Winnipeg’s net. So I think I mean as a goalie when you’re trying to look through five bodies, it’s makes your job pretty tough. So I think that’s, you know, we’re going to have to do that if we want to score. As this team gets healthier, is there a feeling that like the best hockey could be ahead for this group even despite the fact you guys just won a playoff series? Yeah, I think for sure. I think we all know like what we’re missing right now and the guys that aren’t in the lineup. I mean, you know, Miro’s my opinion the best defenseman in the NHL. Robo’s, you know, had 110 points. So, fact that we don’t have those two guys and we’re doing well is shows how deep we are as a team. And then I think if we can add them just will help us even more. Jake, I know it’s two teams, but how much do you relish going against match up like you and Connor? Conor’s on the other end. Yeah, it’s fun. I mean, you always want to, you know, play against the best goalies in the world. And I mean, he’s about to be a three-time Bezant Trophy winner. So, doesn’t get much better than that. So, just going to be a great series. Like I said, it’s goals aren’t going to be easy to come by uh for us. So, just got to, you know, try to take his eyes away. And I mean, it’s nice. Got to know him obviously at the for nation. So, it’ll be fun to play against guys, you know. What did you learn at the for nation? Just watching his preparation and how he, you know, how he gets ready for a game. Yeah, he’s he’s very uh cerebral. Um he he knows the position really well. He knows what works well for him. And obviously he’s had a ton of success uh you know doing things the way that he does. So just you know took you know a lot of drills and stuff that he likes and tried to see if it would help for me. So just got to learn a lot from him and uh he’s a great goalie. So it should be a fun series. The game one thing is it just like ready to get past the eight in a row or whatever it is at this point. Are you working with the group? Do you guys just kind of uh All right, we got to do something different or you just laugh it off or I don’t know. I just Yeah, I guess we’ll talk tomorrow night. Hopefully we broke it, but you always want to get off to a good series start to the series, but uh as we’ve shown, it’s not the end of the world, but I mean, we’re all trying to just keep on the momentum we got from game seven and try to get off to a good start. If you have to pick one key to this game, getting a win in game one, what would it be? I think just I think we learned against Colorado like you know when we put pucks behind them we play the right way I think we can beat anyone and then if we you know play kind of running and gun then you know we can get stung. So I think kind of playing that more north south game I think especially on the road and in a new series you want to establish that. So just try to get pucks behind him and throw some pucks on net and just get off to a good start in in the first minute. Heat. Heat.
