Mets vs. D-backs Game Highlights (5/6/25) | MLB Highlights | Arizona Diamondbacks
And there’s Zack Callen, the ace of this staff, coming off his last start with the great start against the Mets. Right-handers hitting 157 against him. Lefty’s 273. Gino was in on the grass about a half a step and Lindor hit her right to him. And there’s one away. Swung on and a one hopper to second. Marte has it. It runs about half the way to first before throwing to Naylor. Two down and that is going to bring up Pete Alonzo. Breaking ball and a beauty. Swing and a miss. He struck him out and Gallon puts the finishing touches on a one, two, three. Top of the first. We go to the bottom of the first inning. The Diamondbacks have hit 44 home runs this year, four against left-handers. They’ve been very vulnerable to left-hand pitching and David Peterson held them in check last week. And a change up, dribbled up the first baseline. Peterson on it quickly puts the tag on Marte and that’s the first out. It’s a one hopper that nearly knocks McNeel over backwards and Jeff throws him out. So Peterson’s thrown three pitches and got two outs. And McNeel survived that one. Bullet. Oh, it got a nice up pop. Jeff’s got the shore hands. The one two got him looking. Outside corner. Stamped the outside edge with 95 mph. And David Peterson has a one, two, three. First inning. One out for Josh Naylor. Lefty to lefty. Oh my goodness. Hits Naylor on the wrist hard. Real hard. And Naylor is in a lot of pain. And out comes his manager and the trainer. That is not good. Yeah, he got hit hard. Alvarez wanted the ball up in his own. This ball went straight into him. Nowhere he could get out of the way of that pitch. He is clutching his right hand and will not let it go. Looks like he is going to stay in the game. A painful way to get the first base runner of the night. Riel smacks one to center, but Taylor comes on and he grabs it for the second out. And Purdomo hits a comebacker and Peterson who fields his position extremely well, makes that look easy for the third out. Here’s Francisco Alvarez swinging a ground ball through the hole on the right side. A base hit. So that’s the first hit of the night for the Mets. First base runner and it’s a one out single by Francisco Alvarez. Broken bat. Marte with the backhand flip and the relay by and they call Taylor out at first. I’m not sure here. See if the Mets challenge the call. Busted bat. Taylor took a while to get out of the batters box and the Mets are going to challenge the call at first base. I think he beat it. I thought so too. Have to review. The call on the field is overturned. The runner is safe. New York will retain their count. A correct call. So it’s a 4-6 fielders choice. So backto back walks to Lindoran Sodto to load the bases with two out for Pete Alonzo. And he misses high ball four and the Mets take the lead. Alonzo waits out the third consecutive walk issued by Gallon. Taylor comes in to score and it’s one- nothing New York. Right there another fast ball makes short work of Starling Marte. But the base loaded walk to Pete Alonzo gives the Mets a one- nothing lead. Hamson Herrera top of the order. Catel Marte. Strike three call. Throw a slider on the outside corner. Second strike out for Peterson. One down in the third. And Marte goes down swinging. Came with the slider that time. Third strike out for Peterson. Out in front of that one right there. Strike three call got him looking at a fast ball. Peterson strikes out three in the inning. One- nothing Mets after three. NMO out number one. in his fourth inning. 02 pitch. Strike three called. Locked him up with a four seamer. And we’re just seeing that more and more often, Candy, where guys with two strikes, the last thing they’re expecting is that four seam fast. Jeff McNeel gets a flare on short right, but Catel able to run it down. And that’s a quick nine pitch fourth for Zack Gallon. Richik followed by Suarez, followed by Naylor. Randle hits a rocket right through Vientos. It went five hole in the third baseman and Gritic is going to wind up at second base as it kicks around on NMO in the corner. Wow. 111 off the bat that time. That kicks away from Alvarez and Gritic head first into third. Gino stays put first. Good read there by Randall and a run of corners with no outs. Well, he’s looking to get a ground ball here and he gets a lot of them. Swung on high chopper right side. It is glove by McNeel. Goes to second. There’s one. No throw to first. Gritic scores. RBI fielders choice and we are tied at one. There is fair down the line and Naylor’s on the run. He’ll dig for third. Sean Larkin going to put the brakes on. It’s a double for Lordis Gurio. And the Debec’s in business. Two in scoring position with only one man down. Comes up hobbling after having trouble picking that ball up. He kind of fell down on that knee. Comes out oddly right there. Y took a bad step. But it appears he’s going to try and stay in this game. I mean right now the Mets lost Jesse Winker to the IIL. Can’t lose NMO. Now we turn our attention to Aldo Purdomo who bats with runners at second and third and one out. Up the middle. Lindor spins and throws. Naylor comes across and it’s two to1 Diamond B. Well done by Purdomo. That ball even had a chance to be a base hit and drive in two. Nice play by Lindor. I thought he might have overthrown Alonzo as that ball looked high but Alonzo made the adjustment with his foot. It’ll be Alvarez Taylor and then the top of the order and he strikes out Francisco Alvarez to start the fifth caught looking at a fast ball. Four Ks for Gallon. He’s got four strikeouts, Bob. Three of them looking. I think that’s Zack Allen’s history of throwing any pitch in any count. Breaking ball swung on and miss. Back-to-back strikeouts here for the milkman. We talked about him getting these two guys out at the bottom of the order before flipping it over. And that was an outstanding curveball once again. 02 rolled over to the right side and Naylor gloves goes to the bag himself. The inning comes to an end and Gallon turns in. Another one, two, three this time in the top of the fifth. Two on Diamondbacks. One out, nobody on for the Mets. Curve ball swung on and miss. Struck out Alonzo. And that is a half dozen here for Gallon. Another nice pitch. You know, he starts him off with the curve ball. He knows that he can come back and get him with it. And he throws a better curveball in the dirt. He knows right there. There’s a one pitch out. 10 in a row. Retired by Gallon. It is the bottom of the sixth inning. The Diamondbacks hanging on. It’s 2-1 at the moment. You know, you like to see those go up a little bit. Gore lines it to left and it’s gone. There it is. Goreel Jr. makes it four to one. Diamondbacks. Fast ball right down the chute and Guriel turned it around. Oh, that was a nice swing. But you watch a player like Lordis Guriel who went through some real tough times and with a lot of hard work, a lot of extra batting practice and a couple of those, he’s got his confidence back. He’s swinging it well. Brandon NMO leads off for the Mets. 4-1 Diamondbacks here in the top of the seventh. And NMO pops it up behind second. Purdomo’s out there, but Hamson takes it one away in the seventh. And Vento strokes one toward the gap in right center. That’s down for a base hit. Cut off nicely by Hamson to hold Ventos to a single. So on an 02 pitch, Ventos goes the other way and has the Mets second hit of the night. 3-1. It’s a double play ball. Marte Pomo and they roll it and Gallon gets through seven innings of one run, two hit baseball. Well, what an opportunity this creates because now Candy, the Dags can easily tack on an extra run with a sack fly to the outfield. swung on, hit well out towards left. Carol’s going to tag NMO hustling in makes the catch and the sack fly by Naylor makes it a 5-1 Diamondback lead. There’s ball four and a leadoff walk to Sodto. Second time he’s walked tonight, 29th of the year. And the Mets who need base runners have one to start the night. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Looked like he pulled the string. Maybe it was the splitter, but off speed and he was way out front. Oh, that’s a good sink on that splitter. And Marte flares one into a shallow right. That’ll fall for a hit. Sodto goes first to third. And the Mets need just one more base runner to get the tying run to bat. Marte holds down there. Lined up the middle. Perto’s got it. Top shelf. That was headed for the gap in left center. That’s at least one run saved right there. And now the Mets are down to their final line of the night. Lazy fly short center. Pertomo called off by Alec Thomas and Alex got it. Diamondbacks have got the win. The offense did what it needed to do, but this was a performance that was driven by right-hander Zack Allen. who was just magnificent tonight for the Diamondbacks.
Corbin Carroll and the Arizona Diamondbacks take on Juan Soto and the New York Mets on May 6, 2025.

Let’s go D Backs
Hell of a game by Gallen and Lourdes, we absolutely needed a game like this, especially with how we’ve played in this recent stretch. Carry this momentum into tomorrow fellas Go D-Backs
Love it!!
Long outing from Zac when the bullpen needed it most. Josh should really get that hand checked out, too, that looked like a broken pinky.
Kettle is so smooth out there, and him Gerry hold down that defense!!!
What is wrong with Mendoza? I'm tired of the BS. He needs to restructure the batting order. Why is Soto batting second? Soto should be batting third. Why is Taylor in the 9th spot? Alvarez should bat in the 9th spot before Lindor.
I enjoy seeing the D'backs do well; I still rem fondly the 2001 World Series where Arizona beat the Yankees; As a Red Sox fan at the time, seeing the Yankees lose brought Joy to my heart, even after the tragedy of 9/11;
Let’s go boys keep it coming let’s get on a winning streak
Dbacks 💯🛸
We’ve started to come alive as of late won 5 of our last 9 again we just need to keep playing more small ball. Let’s win the series today boys. If you do that then either at least 3 out of 4 or a split against the Dodgers we’ll be in really good shape. Let’s keep it going!
Glad to see Marte back.
SNAKES ALIVE
I love ❤
