SEG announces their NHL Team Name as Utah Mammoth

All right. So, you want to go ahead and talk a little bit about uh let’s say for the last time, your Utah hockey club? Let’s do it. All [Music] right. So, AJ, it’s kind of funny how you can prep for a show all week and have everything that you want to say, have all the notes for everything you want to talk about, and then just a day before you start shooting, everything changes. Yeah, that’s what we like to call life of DNA Sports Recap, Darren. Yeah. At least it happened before the show instead of after the show. cuz typically it typically it announces like right now as we’re shooting and we don’t see the headline or then we’re trying to scramble to get together anything we can. So, hey, we had a few notice to prepare for this one. Yeah, this is nice. This is nice. Get used to this. Yeah. So, what we’re going to do here is we’re going to officially say Utah Hockey Club for the last time on this show. And uh before we get into that, I do want to take a quick second to kind of go over the negative here. Okay, let’s go ahead and address that. Well, before we get into the content for folks, we want to make sure to encourage you to join the conversation in the comments down below. Uh, join us and we on anything we talked about. So, let’s go ahead and get the negative out of the way real fast because I’m really really excited about this. Okay. I’m excited too. I’m excited for you to be excited. Yes, we are. You know, we’ve been planning on, you know, we’ve been actually talking about this. We’ve been planning on talking about this week of how SCG royally screwed up with another brand launch with the Utah Hockey Club and changing their uh social media handle to Utah Mammoth and then immediately deleting it after they realized they made a mistake. Yeah. And then just when questions when questions about it, they had the no comment answer. Yeah. All right. So, they’re just like, “Yeah, nah.” Yeah. The cat’s out of the bag. H just own up to the mess. Move forward, which is kind of what I think happened here. I think this announcement did come a little earlier than they were planning because of that. Um, they didn’t have a choice. Yes. But again, this is just another example of SEG royally screwing up on something. I can tell you right now, the team name that they landed into, and we’ll get into it, all that stuff. But I can guarantee you if you took the top 20 names, you threw it up on a poll, Mammoth would not be number one even if you took the idea out of it. The way this was handled was not handled right. And this is really weird because Qualrex is known for surveys. And I can tell you, we talked about it last week that it was Outlaw that was the number one name within the state of Utah over um anything else. So yeah, with that all said, with that airing that out, SCG, you know, the the highlighter yellow jazz jerseys and everything like that and how that brandly launch was completely messed up and this one wasn’t exactly smooth going. It left uh, you know, a lot to be desired there. The fact that we already all knew what the name was coming into this one, right? You know, I have to say the way they did it, the way they talked about it and how the history of the mammoth being here and how uh, you know, mythical creatures never truly die and that whole concept they’re going with. Yeah. Absolutely love it. So, I thought it was really, really cool. I really like what they’re doing there. Um, you know, I got to say I’m buying into the hype, man. You know, before when I heard about the Mammoth, I’m kind of like, h, and some of the mock-ups and stuff that they had, I’m kind of like, h, you know, but now that it’s here, now that we see it, I’m totally in love with it, dude. I am super pumped up about it. Love the logo. Um, you know, it looks great with all their stuff there. They have the mountains um as the hair of the mammoth there. It looked like a fauxhawk on the Yeti. So, I’m glad that they kind of adjusted it and made it look nice there. The um the state of Utah shape is on the ear of the uh mammoth. I don’t think I realized that. The tusk is a U for Utah. So, it’s kind of like all over the logo is just super awesome. Love what they’re doing with it. And I also really liked what they did with the theme of this. The same color scheme. This is something you mentioned on a previous episode that you when we talked about the whole name thing and you’re like, I think they’re going to keep this color scheme and all that the same. I don’t think they’re going to redo all that. So, it’s going to be similar color. I actually really like the fact that they stuck with that and they’re going to have the same colorization as they did before. Not only that, the road jerseys, the road whites are going to be the same as they are now. Correct. Just with the inaugural patch change to the new logo, which I think is great. It gives a little bit more continuity to that inaugural season and kind of keeps along with that play. I don’t know. What do you think, man? No, I I do love it. And I just noticed that the the U the state of Utah is in its ear. I just I did not even see that. I mean, I do I love the way that they molded these colors together and put this logo together. It does look really well assembled. Um I like all of the history cuz I mean mammoths do have a ton of history in the state of Utah. Uh did you see that they have established 2024 inside the collar? Yes. So I mean I don’t know. I I love it. I think the jerseys are going to be great. I’m excited to see them. So yeah, I’m excited to see I also really like all the sub uh sub logos I did. Like if you I’m going to get me that hat. Did you see the hat? Yeah. With the state of Utah and the U in it, the tusk that goes across the U. I got to get me that hat. Yeah. The only thing I had to say beforehand that I really didn’t like is that tusks up thing. You know, not Yeah. You’re not a fan of the tusks up. No, I’m not. I just think it’s hard to say. Tusks up. It’s the reason why I like the fact that mammoth is singular, not plural. Yeah. Now we’re saying tusks up. And like what do you It’s going to be like a power play thing, right? Like when the the Sharks they’re on a power play, everybody goes like this in the stands like you know how is it gonna how are we are we gonna go like double arms like that? Are we going to go like you know what are we going to do? It kind of feels forced like the team’s kind of forcing it. You should let it happen organically. Yeah. You know so don’t decide what it’s going to be like. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. I also kind of like how the uh Utah patch actually has a hockey stick in it. They have the actual hockey stick in the thing. Yeah. All the sub things are doing. I really like it. I really like the color schemes. I like how they have all the raised graphics on the shirt and uh like just all of it looks really really good and I’m really really excited about it. My only problem is is that the whole jersey is all black with a little bit of white and blue accents kind of thrown in that. Was it would it be too hard to have the bucket be light blue like mountain blue or you know make the pants the blue like it’s all black with a little bit of accent there? I’m I’m guessing that we will see alternates of all these jerseys and colors. Yeah, cuz just everything’s black, man. From the lid to the pants to the socks, everything. I just think that they were again on limited time to get all of these jersey designs submitted. Mhm. And they still hadn’t figured out a name, right? And they’re just like, “Okay, we were black and white last year. Let’s get the logo out. Let’s get them on there. Let’s go black and white again. If we want to alternate the jerseys or throw in some colors, let’s work on that through this year and we can submit them next year.” Yeah. I think that’s probably a big reason for why they continue to have the road jerseys the same. Yeah. It’s just like, you know, this good enough. Just change the patch and we’ll go. Yeah. But anyway, man, I’m super excited about it. I think it’s great. With the hype video, I kind of a little bit more neutral on the whole Tusks up thing. Like I think I’m like, okay, it’s like a battlecry. I get it now. It’s kind of cool. But yeah, man. For originally, I didn’t like it when it was stuff all was all leaked last week. I’m just like, oh, dude, this is so bad. But now I’m super excited, man.
