  1. In 2010, the CFL in conjunction with U Sports (the national sport governing body for universities in Canada) began the CFL QB Internship program. The program runs through CFL Rookie Camps and Training Camps until the end of May. It has welcomed collegiate quarterbacks to join CFL clubs in the leadup to the coming season to further develop their skills, participate in practices, and attend team and positional meetings. Elgersma was in that program for three seasons (two with the Toronto Argonauts and one with the Hamilton Ti-Cats) so he has been exposed to a high level pro environment and playbook before. Basically, the nine best U Sports QBs are invited to join this program each year. It should be noted that a past two time internship attendee Tre Ford (Montreal Alouettes: 2018, Hamilton: 2019) (who also attended a NY Giants camp) will be the starter for the Edmonton Elks this season. This is what the program is all about.
