Rockies vs. D-backs Game Highlights (5/16/25) | MLB Highlights | Arizona Diamondbacks
Your diamondback starter tonight. Right hander Corbin Burns now feeling good getting back to his usual form, he’s won his last two starts to beat the Mets of the Dodgers popped up near the plate. Gabby might have a shot at this one out. No score. Top of the first, the two Tovar swings and misses and he is quickly down on strikes. An interesting thing with this being such a young Rockies team , only three guys have ever faced burns before one and it’s not hard to hit, I guess 96 on the inner half ripped to left by Hunter Goodman pretty hard to keep hunt down and keep him off the bases because he has just been the most consistent guy comes. The one, one pitch swung on that is drilled to deep left center field. Tawa went in now racing back and he’ll make the catch in stride. That could have been a problem and he robs Mcmahon of extra bases as we go to the bottom of the first, it’s the major league debut for Carson Palmquist. 24 year old left hander, a Rockies third rounder in 2022 out of the university. Of Miami prospect. According to MLB pipeline in the Rockies organization, you see 45 punch outs in just over 35 innings of work at AAA. This year, the first pitch is lined to left and it’s caught out there by back and K Mart is retired Diamondbacks not wearing theirs. They have the cess going tonight. Nice stop there by a good looking young player but no chance to get and he had to reach for this. Pops it up to shallow center. Doyle will make the catch two outs and this is in the air to shallow, right? And it’s a very successful first inning of Carson Pops’s major league career home out of the second inning here in Phoenix. No score. It will be Josh Naylor, the big first baseman leading off for the Diamondbacks swung on champ shot liner to right that is going to drop in front of moniak. A leadoff base was digging to try to get that fastball in. He lined one foul. He fouled one off and finally gets to that one even if he doesn’t get it on the barrel, still strong enough to dump it out there in right field. I’m just going to say watch out for Naylor. He is a sneaky baserunner and he just took off his eighth stone base of the year. He lost everything in that slide of mid helmet, at least he got. That’s one thing in those 35 innings. He threw in AAA 10 stolen bases. That’s something to look out for that. This is huge. This is going to be Michael to settling underneath. No advancement. Obviously for Naylor one out at bat by Moreno. Gabby has the base on Naylor at second and Moreno at first here is the center fielder Tim to, he is a right handed hitter as well. He turned on that sinker Naylor will jog home Gabby’s on the run. They’re going to stop him at third. It’s an RB I double for Timmy to and a 10 diamondback lead and now a chance for Perdomo to get another run. 11 pitch swung on slow chopper to third Mcmahon has it thought about going home instead takes the out at first Moreno scores. It’s 21 and two on bouncing ball to third long throw for back and it’s in time in the inning. Two runs come around early lead for the Diamondbacks as we open the weekend with a set against the Rockies. It’s 20 in the third. Corbin Carroll sends it down the line and go. Corbin go. He’s going to have to stop it bounces into the bullpen. You have to settle for a double. Now, Carroll breaks for third. That pitch is taken. Stallings throw not in time. Really nice throw by Stallings. He’s actually thrown out a quarter of base stealers this year Mcmahon put a quick tag down, but that’s going to be a stolen base for Carroll and that is number 71 ball. Two strikes, one out left hander ready swung on line drive to right. Moniak going to get a running start makes the catch comes up firing Carroll tags from third. The one hop is late and it’s an RB I set fly for Suarez. The dives take a 30 lead top of the fourth inning Ezekiel to in a leadoff here for the Rockies trail it 30. Corbin Burns has been masterful so far in the early going of his start. 11 lined into the field for a base hit Tovar. Welcome back to the Rockies leader. He gets a leadoff knock here in the fourth, not going ball four , maybe something going here for the Rockies two on no one out. Now the 12, there’s another half swing and a Miss and mike ryan Mcmahon strikes out kind of like what we saw from a couple of a Bs in the first inning. Never really went after his strike 10 pitch swung on line drive to shallow right. Carroll moving to his right makes the catch. He comes up throwing to third and both runners hold as they are now two down for Michael to three and two once again, ball four and now they’re loaded up for Mickey Moniak got the curveball inning comes to an end. Burns strikes out two more and the Rockies failed to score almost 75 per hit percent of his hits have gone for extra bases. 22. There’s a Tomahawk swing and a line drive base it into left field. It’s a start for the D backs leadoff man aboard. Once again, Moreno walked and scored in the bottom of the second. Here we are in the bottom of the fourth, pulled it down the line and by Mcmahon great six on the move. John Larkin get away from home Tovar with a relay in there safely with a head first dive on. Larkin likes to get aggressive down there. GREs home and it’s 4 to 0 runner at third one out. Perdomo going to be brought in swung on and a fly ball to fairly deep left field deep enough to score. Moreno the catch is made by Bec Gabby tags from third. He comes home to score and perdomo sack fly makes it five to it is the top of the fifth inning with a five to nothing lead. Ryan comes set 12 pitch curveball swung on and missed. He struck him out really has that curveball working off of the cutter starts with throwing strikes with that pitch. And Then again, it has so much good downward break at such a lower velocity and that’s several swings and misses right over the top of that pitch and the right handers 22 pitch swing and a miss challenged him right down the middle and Stalin swung right through it. He had that in the back of his mind. That’s exactly what he did last time and he went to it again and just challenged him with a fastball. The two and a squier to the right cattell has it and throws on the run to Naylor in time. The inning comes to an end, no runs, no hits, no errors. A walk and two strikeouts for burns in the fifth inning. Top of the sixth inning, burns back on the mound. Two from burns curveball swung on and missed finally dropped in the Hammer and they get strikeout number eight to tie his season high. Now, a swing and Miss and Mcmahon strikes out for the second time tonight and that’s a new season high for Corbin Burns a new d back best nine strikeouts. Here’s a 22 strike three called. The inning is over and burns double digit strikeouts. He finishes his night by striking out the side in order two outs. Eugenio Suarez, the hitter, here’s the 32 to Geno taps it up the middle and throw into center for almost home Marte right behind and it’s seven to zero flips to Amado to end the inning. Two more runs for Arizona. They’re up seven and as we go to the eighth and Moreno swings and grounds it inside the third base line that’s going to get past Mcmahon and ricochet off the wall, it goes right to be Becs throw to second, just off target and Moreno in there with a standing double is Lowe a double and a walk open up the eighth two on and nobody out for perdomo pitch to perdomo swung on line drive. That’s over the leap of to the right field. A base hit Moreno rounds third and scores Perdomo into second with a head first dive RB I double and it’s now 8 to 0 and the back of a comfortable 8 to 0 lead against the Rockies on the pitch now is swinging a high fly ball to center and that should do it in comes Thomas, he’s got it. And that’s your ball game. Diamondbacks. They dominate this opener against the Rockies. They did what they needed to do and that’s not only back to back wins, it’s wins in three of the last four and they’re going to try to make it a three game winning streak tomorrow night.
