Dallas Cowboys 53-Man Roster Projection, Practice Squad Prediction & Notable Cuts
[Music] Welcome back into the Cowboys Report. I am Tom Downey. On today’s show, we are doing a still kind of way too early 53man roster projection plus practice squad cuz I’m a sicko. And it does feature, I think, some tougher decisions than maybe we’ve had to make in years past when we’ve done these shows. Before we dive into it, kind of like Madden style, since we’re back with the Madden Sims on our live shows, rate the Cowboys 2025 roster in Madden fashion one to 100. Let me know in the comments of today’s show. Let’s go to the quarterbacks. This is super easy. It’s Dak Prescott. It’s Will Greer. It’s Joe Milton. Maybe not in that order for two and three. They will carry three QBs. It will be those three QBs. I I don’t really think I don’t think they’re just going to carry two. You still get the benefits of having that free third guy on the roster who when it comes to to game day and active. So Dak Greer, Joe Milton, running back much more complicated. I think the only guy that’s truly guaranteed a spot right now is Jaden Blue. I don’t think Javvante Williams is guaranteed one. I don’t think Miles Sanders is guaranteed one. I would keep puncher liftky. I think he is maybe even the second safest, but he’s a fullback, too. So I kept Williams, Sanders, Jaden Blue. And that made actually Phil Mafa the it was a 54th guy cut because I kind of like go, you know, do big batches and go, okay, I had seven guys. I got to cut still. Mafa was the last one I cut. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they carried Williams and Sanders and Blue and Lipkkey and Mafa or they make Mafa the option over someone like a Sanders or Jvonte Williams. I was extremely conflicted on this one cuz I would like to carry Mafa as a power run. I think he meshes very well longterm with Jaden Blue. I also know he was just a late seventh round pick and those guys especially this year for the Cowboys. Normally they always make it. This year I’m not so sure. So predictions including fullbacks. So including Lipkkey because I was like I think it’s four or five here. How many running backs/ fullbacks do the Dallas Cowboys end up carrying on their 53man roster? This of course assumes no injuries either. We’ll go and make this the pin comment by the way on today’s show. At least the ad might come here on YouTube. If it does, it’s fine. Take advantage of it. Head down there and let me know. Wide receiver, some of these were easy. CD Lamb, George Pickkins, they’ve paid Cavonte Turpin. Jonathan Mingo’s contract means he’s not going anywhere. I would put Tolburn in the safe category, barring something surprising, uh, which I think would be a trade more than a release. Plus, I won him as my number three. Like, I think that makes this team better. That led to like Ryan Fenoy, Jaylen Brooks, Paris Campbell, and more fighting for one spot. Cowboys typically give the advantage to the younger, cheaper, more under team control player. That is Ryan Fenoy. It kind of came down to me cutting one of Mafa or Fenoy. and I went back and forth on which one made the most sense. I think they’re pros and cons on both sides. I think draft investment was more with with played some in the NFL, might put on a good showing in the preseason. Again, if it does come down to these two, who would you rather keep? PM for Phil Mafa, RF for Ryan Fenoy, tight end, and this is the first, you know, asterisk we get to use here. John Stevens Jr. is probably not going to be healthy for week one. At least he might not be healthy for week one. We’ll see about the timing come off of off his ACL. I’m going to game the system here and put him on the pup/ir/ whatever so that he doesn’t count on my 53man roster, but I still get to keep him really more for development next season. I think Jake Ferguson, Luke Skoonaker, obvious roster locks. I think Brevin Span Ford makes the team again. I wouldn’t discount someone like Ravaldo Farweather or Princeton Fant. The Cowboys have had a trend of undrafted free agent making the team at the tight end spot in particular. So, I think this one very much is worth wondering because the Cowboys like to carry four. I just wonder if they’re going to carry four and a fullback. That that that gets a lot with the way this roster is currently constructed. Now, today’s Cowboys report is made possible by the Hall of Fame app where they can help you make smarter bets. I am a big fan of it. I’ve been using it for the group chat uh daily baseball moneyline bet. I’m up big on that front. The rest of the crew is not using it honestly not not as much. The HOF app was founded by lifelong sports fans who happen to be giant data nerds that graduated from Ivy League schools. And if you’re betting on sports and not using HOF, that’s just kind of leaving money on the table. One of my favorite parts of the app is that once you’ve built your parlay, you can set it straight to your sports book with one click. No manual entry, no wasted time. The HOF app syncs automatically with most major sports books like DraftKings and FanDuel. And HOF isn’t just about parlays. It’s built for player props, gain lines, totals, and more, giving you the tools to break down trends, spot that value, and make smarter bets across every major market. For a limited time only, you guys get not only a 7-day free trial, but also 50% off your first month when you use code chat at checkout. Download the HOF app on iOS or Android. There will be a link for you in the comments section and the description of today’s show and use code chat to get that 7-day free trial plus 50% off your first month and then you’re all set. A big thank you to the HUFF for sponsoring us here on the Cowboys Report. Let’s go to the offensive line. Again, some some tough ones for me. Obvious locks I think are Tyler Gayton, Tyler Smith, Cooper BBE, Tyler Booker, Terrence Steel, Robert Jones with the contract, Brock Hoffman. I’d probably say Ajani Aquinius given the draft investment I think Austin Richards is a good player so I think he makes it TJ Bass I’d like to keep that does leave as we’ll get into later couple notable offensive linemen the Cowboys have 15 linemen right now the majority of whom were drafted or have played real actual NFL games that makes for some t tough cuts and probably makes for a good preseason too over to the defensive line I’m going to go four deep here uh and the Reason being is I can, you know, flex in someone like Pton Turner. More on that in a little bit. OSA is not going anywhere. Mazi is not going anywhere. Solomon Thomas isn’t going anywhere. And I’ll give the edge to Jay Toia over a Justin Rogers for that fourth defensive tackle. I would like an upgrade in July if I can find one here. I think that’d be that’d be nice. So, I went fourth DT. I’m going to go deep at defensive end because like who you cutting here? Micah Parsons? No. Dante Fowler? No. Ezaraku? No. Marshon Nila? No. You’ve paid Payton Turner. I don’t think he’s going to get cut this year. Thomas is on a two-year deal. Two-year deal, obviously. Sam Williams, I don’t think you’d trade him, but it’s a possibility. And Turner can kick inside some. Neland could potentially be an option there and passing downs, too. So, I I think you go deep at edge, light at DT, and we’re kind of in the exact same spot to we were last year of like, hey, is this run stopping run game going to be good enough for Dallas? Feel like that wasn’t addressed the way maybe it could have been. Maybe that’s your main area of concern right now, minus the injuries, which we’ll come back to at linebacker and corner. Now, we’re going to have daily Cowboys videos for you all off season long. We are not going anywhere. Hit that sub button. YouTube.com/cowboys TV. Let’s go to the linebackers. I will not have the Marvian Overshon eligible. He’ll begin the year on pupir whatever. Uh so he will be unavailable probably until like November somewhere in that ballpark. Maybe that Thanksgiving game or the buy in week 10. So, Kenneth Murray, who we’ll do surprise cut candidates. I don’t think he’s fully guaranteed a spot, but I think he makes it just with the experience. Maurice Leaf, Shamar James, Jack Sanborn. I’m going to go with Justin Baron as the undrafted free agent who makes the Cowboys roster this year predominantly to help out on special teams. And it’s a little bit light. Five linebackers is light, but I again the the roster crunch is is real. All right, over to corner. Trayvon Diggs, Josh Butler. Not going to be good to go week one in my projections. Hurt pup, so they don’t count. Don Bland, Caier Elim, Kalin Carson, Savone Rebel, Israel Muamu. Again, I’m going light at corner because you’re going to get guys healthier as the season goes along. Also, I think I did I did this on purpose. Extremely light with your nickel corner options. And if Rebels’s not healthy, that opens the door for Andrew Booth, Troy Pride, someone to potentially make the roster. Pretty easy at safety. Malik Cooker, Wany Thomas, Donovan Wilson, Maris Bell, you know, maybe an Elijah Clark surprises, but I’m already having to go thin at other spots. I can’t go heavy at safety as far as I’m concerned. Special teams is easy, too. Brandon Aubby, Brandon Aubrey, excuse me, Brian Anger, Trent Sig, all make this roster. That does leave some notable players who ended up not making the Cowboys roster. I’ll go through those. I will go through my practice squad projections as well. But notable names only. What was a player that you think ends up getting cut? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Now, all of these guys could be practice squatterers, too. I did not put them on there because I think they could get a spot somewhere else on a practice squad with more path to playing time or Cowboys just say we’re moving on alto together. Jaylen Brooks, Matt Wletko, Hakee Dennis, Shiky Charles all have zero dollars guaranteed. They feel like I feel like those guys were brought in as maybe they impress. Awesome. And they kind of replace like you know gramling state offensive lineman UDFA and make the preseason games better for the Cowboys. Deone Clark’s got a lot of money coming his way. three plus million dollars the Cowboys could save. Unless he takes a pay cut, I’m going to guess he’s not back. I do think a pay cut is is in play though for Deone Clark. Andrew Booth also doesn’t make it. I think another new regime change probably does not benefit him. Deone Clark is one that I think I could look the stupidest with practice squad of projections. I’m going to put Phil Maf on here. I I I think he gets down to you actually. Duce Vaughn Josh Kelly. I had to put one of the UDFA receivers on there. He got more than Tan Holden by the way moneywise. Paris Campbell. So, you know, big guy, small guy there, wide receiver. So ends the Jaylen Craropper practice squad run, too. In this case, uh, two tight ends, Raldo Farweather, Princeton Fance. I went 10 deep on the offensive line. I’ll take one, uh, practice squad or that that that feels light. Um, but I’m also not going to project non Cowboys players to make it, and they’ll probably add a non-cowboy offensive lineman. Done that in recent years. Nathan Thomas, the former draft pick. Again, a lot of notable offensive linemen on this team right now. Uh Tommy uh Aken Basote, seventh round pick, late seventh rounder. I think practice squad is good for him. Justin Rogers, same thing. Denzel Daxon, by the way, is part of the international player pathway program. He is a free practice squad player, I believe. So, you actually get 17 uh this year as a result, not the 16. Tyrus, the edge, Buddy Johnson, special team on linebacker, Kaman Hall, Troy Pride, both there. You can guarantee SJ go on the practice squad. You know, maybe injuries happen and he doesn’t get down there and he makes more sense, but I can gain the system by putting him on the practice squad and then calling him up a couple times to begin the season. Elijah Clark, Mike Smith, uh both safeties, uh UDFAs who hang around on the practice squad side of things. [Music]

Luepke is in trouble of getting cut 2 yrs he hasn’t really shown anything plus this team is probably gonna run a lot of 12 personnel and 3 wide sets no fullback really needed
Damone Clark over Jack Sanborn
PM
Phil Mafah will make the roster he brings a skill set not on the roster sorry guys the Hunter Luepke experience is over
Michael Paulson. He is free AGENT. We have to cut him 7:42
Good job.but history of this team is repetitive, never complete team always a failure somewhere, all by design as is the contracts . Steven Cap boy Jones plan is always have incompletions,so they have and excuse for failure in playoffs, hopetopea.its by design.
keep mafah get rid of flournoy and keep traeshon holden
PM
Im gonna be mad if we have 5 rbs but thin at DT and CB
5 RB's
I .can't really read the football team when the season did not even start yet.
RF.
I don't think Tyler Guyton is going to make my brother.
82-82
Tom would you rather have Zion Childress on the practice squad or have him on the 53
Anyone but Booth😩😭
Please let Booth go😩😭
I’m not so sure they keep 3 QBs this year!!! They can cut Grier and put him on the practice squad…Milton is definitely QB2!!!
Our linebackers are fucked without overshown, if he doesn’t stay healthy were cooked.
Phil Mafah(Practice Squad at Best IF they Don't add A Veteran RB)
That LB squad is ROUGH
They are keeping 6 dts. Rogers and akingbesote arent getting cut for a bum like john stevens. If they do dallas is silly
You don't cut viable rookies, so I'd think Mafah is in. I doubt Hunter and Vaughn make it.
JT has 7 TDs last year, y'all are crazy
Lumpke can also play emergency tight end
Not even close horrible analysis
❤ 91 ❤
❤ 5 ❤
❤ P M ❤
Steele needs to be replaced
Nathan thomas is a sleeper for back up linemen. This is technically his rookie year. Hes a mauler
Were fucked we are complete joke now. letting mike walk not signing Carol or gruden or belicheck
Never needed 3 qb’s ever. We even rolled with just two before.
DT Always Always fucn Always our downfall. Year after year after year…….. yet wasn’t addressed till round 7. Stop the fucn run! Barkley!
You need battering rams so keep Mafa , Lipke, and Williams
Rf
Get rid of Terrance Steele, he gives up to many sacks.
Phil Mafah,Blue, Williams,Sanders
I would try to keep both
Keep Mafah for short yardage and goal line. He's a bruiser.
Feel like we need more , Overshown being out we need a middle linebacker that makes some noise and a RB thats Brings some heat like Pollard pre injury .
RF fR for real
I want ez standing up blitzing from parsons back side! He small for lb much less edge
