Salt Lake City’s NHL team officially named Utah Mammoth after year-long fan campaign
[Music] Why Media Group? The fastest growing media group in North America. Why Media Big Shot? Salt Lake City’s NHL franchise has officially revealed its permanent name, the Utah Mammoth. Owners Ryan and Ashley Smith introduced the team’s new identity on Wednesday following over a year of fan engagement and voting. From the very beginning, we pledged that this team would be built with and for the people of Utah and were thrilled to celebrate today’s launch with the entire state, the owners said in a statement. The community chose the Utah Mammoth name, which symbolizes who we are, where we come from, and the powerful force we’re creating together. The Utah Mammoth name replaces the temporary Utah Hockey Club, which had served as a placeholder during the team’s inaugural season. Among the original finalists, Yeti was dropped after a copyright dispute with the Cooler Company of the same name, and Wasatch, referencing Utah’s famous mountain range, was swiftly replaced by the Outlaws.
