LeBron (starting at 30:49) on Mind the Game with Steve Nash:

“You think they get bored sometimes? Like, they’ve been doing this shit so long. It seems like they get bored sometimes with the – I don’t want to say the process – they are who they are. When you look at Tatum and Brown, this is years and years and years and years. They’ve punched their 10,000 hours, but sometimes it seems like… sometimes they get a little bored because of how great they are, not only as those two as individuals, but them as a team. And sometimes, it looks like they get bored.”

  1. Knicks beat em fair n square. Not gonna get caught up in putting more blame on the C’s than giving the Knicks their due. They clutched up every game.

  2. Dudes talking like they’re all time greats…they’ve had a lot of success but they won 1 chip for gods sake

  3. Acting like they’re a multi ring dynasty suffering from their own success or something lmfao. they’re going to be reaal bored next year without Tatum

  4. I wouldn’t say they were bored I think it was moreso their pride and play style. It worked so well they figured out the entire league, won a title and for it to work 90% of the series against the Knicks and still lose, that has to hurt.

None of them were playing like they gave up even down 3-1 and even the first half of game 6

  5. Not sure about this take. I do think we have a tendency to start trying too much cute shit & playing too much iso when we get a 20 point lead, so maybe that’s what Bron is referring to here.

The Knicks beat us because they simply played better especially in the 4th quarters. Obviously, Porzingis being too sick to be productive & Brown being limited by the knee issues didn’t help, but being healthy down the stretch is one of the most important factors in the playoffs.

  6. redditors acting like they know more about the game then the literal GOAT of the game is fucking hilarious

  7. They play down that’s what he means. Remember the year before last when they were down 3-0 to the 8th seed then woke up to storm back 3-3. Would’ve won game 7 if Tatum ain’t twist his ankle in the first minute of the game

  8. how dare LeBron give his opinion on this. If he really wanted to be an expert on ball he should have been posting here the past 22 years instead of going off winning MVPs and titles and becoming the NBA’s all time leading scorer.

  9. Complacency is a real thing. Celtics lacked hunger all season, you just never expected it to all blow up in such a ugly manner.

  10. It’s not about how great they are, they get bored because their style of play is boring. Jog down the court, shoot a three, go back on defence, repeat.

  11. Agree with this take completely. Those 2nd half collapses felt like they were just purely self-induced

  12. Lebron seems on the money here. It’s hard to defend a title and some of that is due to complacency and the Celtics seemed to have that this season and series against the Knicks

  13. He’s not wrong

It’s always been the red flag about this team even before the KP and Holiday trades and it seemed like they solved it last year but they played with their food this season again at times

  14. I’m a Celtics fan and I’m not even mad tbh, this explains a lot about why Boston in recent years tended to coast against teams they had a high chance of beating while bringing their A-game against other top tier teams

  15. The Celtics seemed annoyed in the magic series and especially the first two games of the Knicks series that the other team was trying hard

  16. I am surprised at the amount of people going on like this is a controversial opinion. The Tatum-Brown Celtics have a bad habit of playing down to the level of their competition/losing concentration and playing with their food a bit. I thought this was a pretty well recognised tendency with this team?

Edit: The controversy seems to be Knicks fans feeling this is supposed to invalidate their teams win, I don’t think that is what Lebron is saying at all.

  17. If they’re getting complacent that easily then I don’t really have any sympathy for it

  18. I saw the heat in Miami in 2011 or 2012, as my only NBA game ever. I was pretty excited

Lebron and the heat surely looked very bored and the game was a snooze. A great disappointment

  19. i agree. Knicks just felt more motivated due to them not being there before but that was my opinion

  20. WTF is this thread? There are 4 comments saying LeBron is wrong, 15 comments genuinely discussing this in a civil manner and 60 comments acting like the 4 downvoted comments saying he’s wrong is the consensus opinion.

  21. The fact that they won one and got bored kinda goes to show they’re not great. Very good, sure. Not great.

  22. At some point Redditors understand that you have never played basketball at this level, been in an NBA locker room, talked to the players, or won a professional chip. Sit back and just take in the perspective from players and/or coaches that have more insight than you on these topics

  23. Lol ya totally, has nothing to do with being surrounded by arguably the most talented roster in the NBA. Obligatory fuck the CeLtics

  24. In the Celtics defense, they haven’t had much of a break. Going from a deep June run to the Olympics to the next season gave them next to no time off. They deserve some complacency, they just had no idea when to pinch it off.

  25. Yeah boredom is the reason why they have 3 rings in the past 40 years

  26. What James is saying is basic human nature. We talk about health and chemistry. But this is true for anyone. And the mental aspect is every bit as important for winning as the physical part.

  27. blowing 2 x 20pt leads at home is forever going to stain their reputation

  28. This is absolutely what happened. The C’s thought they would roll over the Knicks, played with their food, and thought a 20 point lead would be enough to stifle the team. They just won a championship off of the three and advanced analytics and decided that they could wave off the Knicks. They were already planning for the Cavs. When they lost the first two, they finally sobered up and realized Thibs is out coaching Joe and Jalen Brunson is playing like a desperate man. Even the Knicks subreddit didn’t think we could even take one game off of the Celtics. The answer was clear though, if the Celtics ran up average on three, and we clogged up the paint, the Celtics could never beat the Knicks. Its why they had to Hack-a-Mitch and chase him off the court. The roster was working as intended and it came crashing down on Boston. You can take your advanced stats any day, and frankly it’ll probably work most of the time!

    Just didn’t this time

  29. I knew it from the moment they couldn’t beat the 3pt record in the opening game and then laughed it off. Same way I knew the mariners weren’t going to do shit when they couldn’t beat the Rangers to beat the season win record.

  30. That’s what you get when you try to reduce basketball to a math-equation and leave no room for adjustments.

The other thing that happens is that you get sent home early.

Same thing happened to the Fakers.
