Edmonton Oilers Might Miss This Key Player | Oilers Update

Here’s your notes from Oilers skate. Calvin Picker did not travel to Dallas. That was kind of expected. It’s going to be Rodrigue backing up Skinner. Connor Brown is a game time decision. He did not he didn’t skate Sunday, didn’t skate Monday, and was not on the ice today, although he was at the arena. So, feels like maybe a true game time decision. But again, if he didn’t skate this morning and hasn’t skated for two days, I have a hard time believing Connor Brown’s going to be in the lineup tonight. I think he’ll play. I think he’ll take warm-ups at least and we’ll find out from there. Uh who I guess the ultimate question is what would you do if he doesn’t play? He’s a right winger obviously. So Arbitson’s a guy I and I get that some people might be like this is your chance to give No, RV gets back in before Skinner. Yeah, play penalty kill this year. Not a lot. Do we have any penalty killers out of the lineup right now? Uh because obviously Brown be the ultimate guy. Derek Ryan, but like you’re not going to play Derek Ryan. Um, yeah, I’ll quickly look at the PK numbers so far in the playoffs here, but I mean, they have been spreading out the wealth a little bit when it comes to the minutes on the PK or introducing some new guys to that mix is maybe a better way to put it. So, Connor Brown was their most used penalty killer. 21-22 so far, PK time on ice in these playoffs. NASA second, Henrik third, Yanmar four, and then it goes McDavid, Pod Kohl’s, and Hyman actually. And then Arvdson is eighth on that list. with a minute. With a minute on the list, you basically stumble your way into that kind of time. Cory Perry’s on there for 48 seconds. So, yeah. Um, so yeah, I mean, listen, if you don’t have Connor Brown, you’re probably just giving Pod Coulson and Yanmark a bit more time as a duo than doing the NE Henrik thing. I know they like to start with N and Henrik to make sure even if someone gets kicked out of the face off, they have a centerman. And usually one or both of those guys as soon as it’s cleared will go right off the ice and they’ll put out like a Yanmar Kain kind of duo. Um, but that’s the other thing too. Kappa didn’t kill in his two games, which I don’t even think he would have had a lot of opportunities to kill penalties, but they could just start using Kappa. They leaned on him a bit earlier in the year. So, again, I’m not even put putting in Arbitson for any amount of like PK or defensive responsibilities, but I think he’s your best option of between him and Skinner. AB, it’s not it’s a no-brainer for me. I’m putting in Arbitson. Yeah, Arbertson’s he’s tiny, but he’s he’s a dog. Yeah, he’d be the guy I go with, too. Again, if you’re looking at a left-handed shot, then I would go Skinner. But just where they are in the lineup, I think I I don’t even think he was playing that bad when he came out of the lineup. I just think it was like circumstance and they wanted that speed. And do you need speed as bad against Dallas as you did against Vegas? I think Vegas attacked with a bit more pace than than Dallas did, especially in transition. They had a lot more blue liners that could move the puck well. So again, you’re worried about that when it’s Hasten and Harley, not so much with everyone else. Um, I want to read this one from Mark Spectre who was at the skate today for the Oilers. Matias Ekholm is taking a regular shift at practice. We were told he will not play in games one or two, but it’s playoff time, so take that take that promise for what it’s worth. He did skate on what you’d call the fourth pairing um for the Oilers today. So again, it’s not like they had him out there with Bard or whatever, but with Connor Brown out, does it does it maybe open the door if Ekholms progressed quicker than you think? Do we see a last minute 117 tonight from the Oilers? I don’t think that would even be a bad idea tonight in the sense of like you don’t I’m not saying you have to play Echol as much as obviously you would even if he plays like five minutes and you just get him through the game. Get him in there a little bit and play McDavid and Dry Settle have had five six days off now. Also too, you’re going to run them. Dallas play 11 and seven. So maybe it gives you more opportunities to match up against Rantinon. Like I was looking at some of the stuff when the the other lines are productive, it’s cuz Rantin is playing with them. So if you’re able to get McDavid or Dryidle or NG, whoever out there more often against Rantin with the 11 forwards, maybe that’s an idea. So Dallas was going 11 and seven in that series against Winnipe Hen in return because they’re using him in. It sounds like to stick with the theme of the lineup report that it’s going to be 12 and six for Dallas tonight. I would imagine they still rotate Ransoming quite a bit though considering no one else is playing well. What’s up, nation citizens? As the Oilers prepare for Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars, it looks like lineup changes could be on the way. Connor Brown might not be good to go, and there’s a idea that the Oilers could go with an 11/7 setup to help ease Mattias Ekholm back into action. After missing time with injury, sliding Ekholm into a 7D rotation would allow the coaching staff to manage his minutes while keeping the rest of the blue line fresh.

Today, Tyler and Liam broke down the potential lineup tweaks ahead of Game 1, what going 11-and-7 could mean for Edmonton’s forward group, and how the Oilers might look to exploit matchups against a deep Dallas team.
