Dallas Stars’ EPIC 3rd Period SHOCKS the Edmonton Oilers in Game 1 NHL Playoffs!

Welcome to beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. And tonight, what a game. The Dallas Stars do exactly what we said they could do. The Edmonton Oilers also come as advertised. Everything we talked about in our pregame breakdown ended up coming true. Now, unfortunately, if you’re an Oilers fan, someone has to go home here sad. And if you’re a Stars fan, you go home happy. But when it comes down to the teams, the Dallas Stars won one at home. And that is critical for them. But it is not a major loss for the Edmonson Oilers. They’re not expected to win one at home right away or on the road I should say right away. All they need to do is split the series, so there’s still a lot of hope. Edmonton played very well tonight. Steuart Skinner gets beat for three power play goals. Don’t worry, we’re going to talk about all of those and break those down later in the video. But really to me, the main story of this game is that Edmonton comes out, kills them with speed, exactly the way we said they would do it. They score the first goal. These guys are killers. They’re prime for the cup. They were at the cup last year. They want to get through it this year. And of course, it’s Leon Dryidle leading the way. But Dallas responds in kind. Tyler Sean doing his best impression of Leon Dryidle. And don’t forget, Oiler fans, this guy was the 102 draft pick. He should have been the 101 the year he went. He’s no joke. Even though he’s a little bit further down the roster than he used to be, Tyler Sean ties it up on a breakaway through really great defensive effort. And we’re off to the second period where the Oilers take full control. Their speed in the neutral zone carve up the Dallas Stars. Their power play shows up. Edmonton has been waiting for this power play to show up. Absolutely top-notch power play. I told you it was going to show up. I told you it was going to come. Tons of comments telling me it hasn’t been great yet. The eye test never lies. Just cuz goals don’t go in doesn’t mean the power play isn’t doing what it needs to do. Edmonton gets up 3 to one and then unfortunately high sticks hooking holding and errant twominute penalties. Cory Perry Evander Kane cost the Edmonton Oilers. You do not want to go on the penalty kill if you were Edmonton against Dallas. And that is exactly what happened. Now, you guys are going to go down below in the comments and let me know what you think of the refing. I never get involved in that one. I know people are going to be upset about minor penalties. I know they’re going to be upset about the two-minute calls that come out. But you’ve heard me say it before. You’re never going to get the call you expect in the playoffs. And the call you do get, you’re going to be upset that it happens. So, regardless, you have to learn to play through these situations. Edmonton does not. Dallas capitalizes with three straight power play goals to take the lead four-3 in the third period. Steuart Skinner blows up. Not in terms of how he played goalending. You cannot blame a goalender for getting scored on on the power play. He is your best penalty killer after all. But mentally, woof, that’s tough. Especially after coming from two back-to back shutouts. And we see the talent. We see the Rantins. We see the Mo Granlands. The Stars come out for the Stars tonight. And then from there, it’s one more quick goal to make it 5 to3. And it’s over with an empty net goal by Essa Lindell. So, Dallas goes nuts. The Dallas Stars chance go off the roof. But I assure you Stars fans and Oiler fans, the Edmonton Oilers are not sweating this one. They were down, do not forget, 3 nothing to the Florida Panthers until they took it to overtime in game seven. These guys are veterans. They’re gamers. They will not let this game linger for very long. They will be back for game two. They will be back with their speed and they will be back with a vengeance. So, we have a series. It’s off to the race. Now, why don’t you come back with me to the hotel room where we break down some of these goals. All right. Goal number one starts with dry cidle. starts ends with dry cidle gets to the top. There is no reason this puck shouldn’t be out of the zone and you have to help and you have to pressure here if you’re the Dallas Stars but they don’t do it and it’s Leon Dryidle who is able to keep that puck in. Unbelievable play here. This is Oilers hockey in a nutshell. It’s switch. It’s switch. It’s McDavid. Unbelievable spinama there. Looks like a much better version of PK Suban. That used to be his favorite move. Trips, move it over to Nurse. The fact that Dallas cannot get this puck out of the zone. Looks like absolute child’s play here with these switches. They leave that puck now for Dry Cidle. Dryidle has the opportunity to beat him wide. McDavid puts a little bit of a pick on it. Guys are going to say that’s not allowed in the NHL. Well, the only thing that’s not allowed is what you get caught for. They don’t get caught for it. Dry Cidle beats him wide to the outside and then take a look at the room he’s going to see over Otter’s shoulder here. He comes in goal scorer best in the league right now. Beats him one- nothing. But then it is a oneonone battle. It is Sean. It is Dry Cidle and Sean does what you need to do. He gets and closes that gap with Dry Cidle. Blows it up and he’s gone. Really nice defense. Like I said, this guy is the former 102 overall. Just a fantastic goal scorer. Breakaway Skinner way out in his crease. Comes out to challenge. Love the confidence from this guy, but he gets beat just over the pad. And this happens very simply because of the speed Sean is able to bring in on the net. Too many guys in the NHL don’t just drive the net with speed. It’s just a huge netfront drive, full speed. push him back into the net as far as you can. 1-1. It’s quiet for a moment. We get an odd goal. It’s not the fact that the goal is odd. It’s the fact that the goal comes at 14 minutes. Most goals come at the first 3 minutes and the last 6 minutes of a period. This is right in the middle of the Slogfest. McDavid moves it over to Dry Cidle on the wing and then it’s just this unbelievably quick give and go slash through the Dallas Stars penalty kill. And you’re not going to stop McDavid once he gets going. McDavo gets fully going. He’s going to make a pass. And it’s a really good job getting sticks in lanes here if you’re the Dallas Stars, but sometimes even McDavid’s passes are too fast. They move forward. May not look like it’s going a million miles an hour, but it’s just not enough. It ends up on the stick of Nan Hopkins, a former 101 in his own right, and he beats Aud to make it 2:1 Edmonton off the power play. And I told you this power play would come back. It’s not long after that the Oilers, only a couple minutes in, are going to go low to high. Beautiful carry of the puck behind the net here. This is where the Oilers always do their best work. They have to be mobile. Whether it’s in the offensive zone or whether it’s in the defensive zone, they have to be changing angles, changing directions with speed. You get it up to the point, the point puts it back down. And that is going to cause confusion here from the Dallas Stars. All you’re trying to do is get one player to bite, and they do. that player bites, it changes a little bit of an angle and they’re able to bring in two guys as well as the puck support that is going to open up everything you need to open up here at the top. And I said they haven’t played a defenseman like Bousard before and people roasted me talking about Mar. Macar is the best defenseman in the world, but Bousard has been the best point getting defenseman in the playoffs in the last two seasons. They move it over to Buchard on a beautiful angle change and he is going to step in and just rip one. He’s not looking for a screen. He doesn’t need a tip. He just steps in, finds Daylight, puts it in the back of the net. We knew he’d be a massive differencemaker in this series. Power play to start the third. They end up moving it over to Granlin who ends up bumping it into the zone. Edmonton gets caught by the speed of the Dallas Stars. And this is where more power plays go to work. They move the puck back up the wall to the guy that started the play. It’s Mero Heiskin and he says, “Look, if you can do it, Buchard, I can do it.” He comes in, changes the angle again. So, it went high and it went low. You’re going to see a lot of this from both teams, doing everything they can to change the angles against each other. Now, the puck is down low. They boot it back to Heiskinan, and you get the exact same outcome here that Edmonton had on their power play. And on the last goal from Bousard, you trap them down low. Soon as they’re trapped down low, Ian’s going to step in. Quick little shot through traffic. That is the difference on this one. He is shooting through four players. Steuart Skinner doesn’t have a chance on this goal. That is not a knock on Skinner. Good luck stopping a puck you can’t see. It doesn’t take much longer from there. We saw this against the Jets. We have been seeing this over and over again. It’s a double bump and they’re looking for Male Granland. When they move it over to the superstar fin, he steps in and everybody on Dallas has seen this. This position here is showing pass or shoot. So, he can move it over to the bumper. He’s got an absolutely deadly cannon that he can move this way. He can drop it backwards. But on this one, he decides to do exactly what he did against Winnipeg. It’s the fake pass showing pass and it’s just an absolutely wicked shot that beats Skinner on the power play to tie the game. And I want you guys to see the whip he gets on his stick as he steps in there. Take a look at that. It is unbelievable. I mean, the way this guy can shoot a puck is absolutely something special. And if you haven’t been watching him, you’ve been missing out on the fin. One more power play for good measure. It all starts with Heiskin in. And I told you before the series, keep your eye on Matt Duchain. He has been completely snake bit, but he is always around the net. He should have had at least four or five goals against the Winnipeg Jets. He didn’t. He hit post. He hit crossbarss. Not his fault. Puck finally squirts out to him from behind the net on an errant shot from Ranton in there. Unbelievable job here. Sorry, from Sean. I apologize. Unbelievable work there by Duchain. It’s not a pretty one, but he finally breaks the dam and gets it through and gets one of those goals he’s been working so hard for in the last two series. The last goal would be an absolutely beautiful play here from Robertson over to Sam Steel. Steel would carry that zone with speed. He would catch Buchard here. He’s going to go in and it’s just a nifty little backhand move here. Take a look at all the daylight he gets as Tyler Sean’s able to get a stick on it right behind the play. It looks like he’s already got Skinner beat and that puck goes in the back of the net. So, that’s it for tonight with game two. I hope you enjoyed this amazing breakdown. Don’t forget to like and subscribe. Look at all the work we’re doing for you guys here on vacation, away from it, still watching hockey in the 12 minutes of summer we get in Canada for you guys. So, don’t forget it goes a long way. Any comment, all the likes, all the subscribes, and we will catch you guys for game two. And tomorrow, we will catch you for game two of the Panthers, the Big Cats, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Take it easy.

The Dallas Stars delivered a stunning performance in Game 1 of the 2025 NHL Western Conference Final, overcoming a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 6-3. Trailing by two goals entering the third period, the Stars erupted with five unanswered goals, including three power-play tallies within a 5:26 span. Tyler Seguin led the charge with two goals and an assist, while Miro Heiskanen, Mikael Granlund, and Matt Duchene also found the back of the net. Goaltender Jake Oettinger made 24 saves to secure the victory.

Despite strong performances from Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl (one goal, two assists), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (one goal, one assist), and Connor McDavid (two assists), the Oilers couldn’t withstand the Stars’ third-period surge. This game marks a significant momentum start as the series heats up.

  1. The Oilers finally found out when the tables turned on them in the 3rd period. Wow! I hope the players eat their humble pie and really learn from this. Now, we have a series!

  2. Tough third period for the Oil, but some terrible penalties late in the game which killed them, not to discredit Dallas though, they played very well late in the game. Another thing I noticed throughout the game is that they were killed in the faceoff dot all night especially in critical moments which led to lots of time with the puck for Dallas. The Oilers always play better from behind and don't do well after breaks, so I was kind of expecting this collapse. The Oilers as a whole are very difficult to shake and I'm sure they will be back next game more disciplined and have a stronger finish. Go Oilers!!

  3. Dallas is the better team Oilers only chance is to totally Goone up the game. hopefully Perry gets suspended a few games for bouncing Bichsel's face off of the ice at the end of the game. refs where fine . Hey Dallas fans me and my wife got hand towels from the kitchen. we are totally into chanting along with the crowd.

  4. Worth noting: Seguin missed most of the season after surgery in Dec to repair a hip injury (I think).
Since his return last month, he simply hasn't looked 100% – until last night! The speed burst he displayed on that breakaway was the quickest he has looked in quite a long time.

  5. You're not lmao any more are you? Just another Canadian playoff meltdown. When will you learn how to play defense? 5 goals in one period doesn't fall on the goalie. Defense shouldn't all come from defenseman. Maybe world class speed should learn how to back check.

  6. Wow you sound like a punk…. Not even anywhere to claim fidelity. Shut up, you probably don't even know how to angle stop in skates.

  7. Where the hell was KK with a much needed TIMEOUT??? WTF!! Major coaching error.

While Skinner didn’t lose this game, he looked positionally lost multiple times and just hope his shutout or sub .834 sv% changes. High beta goaltending does not bode well for cup contenders.

  8. Bouchard has great offensive talent, as a defenseman, but even with scoring a goal, he was a -1 last night. That 2nd goal by Seguin, Bouchard was within reach of Steele and didn't play that well enough, especially considering Steele is a 4th liner.

  9. Stars fan here , 5 goals, FIVE GOALS , 3 power play goals , THREE POWER PLAY GOALS in one period , and a. TWO GOAL LEAD going into the 3rd period, what A MIND F*CK FOR THE OLIES.
    GO STARS , DALLAS STARS!!!!!!!!!🏒🥅

  10. I’m an Oilers fan who lives in Vancouver so I love the intro! Vancouver’s so pretty this time of year and good weather (aka no rain for a couple of days lol). Great analysis! All good points. I too hate it when fans complain about the referees. As I tell my kids: “You get what you get and you don’t get upset.” 😅 I hope the Oilers learned a lot of lessons from this game. I am not worried just yet haha. I believe in our team and even though we lost the third period I know we will have a great series! It will be fun. Oilers in 7! 💙🧡

  11. LA won the first 2 games of the series to. Toronto had a 2-0 lead over FL last round. No lead is safe in this playoff year. It was a fun game, but too many goals for Dallas. I was hoping for a very dramatic finish. I even was pulling for Edmonton to score on their power play when it was 4-3 Dallas, but they didn't. Dallas took advantage of their opportunities. Edmonton didn't. Then following it up with an empty net goal seconds after you pull the goalie. just sloppy and collapsing. I loved that Dallas kept pushing and pushing until they scored.

  12. Oilers dominated 5 on 5, the open points had the d men cooking. Bouchard got one, stetcher looked good at times. Had plenty of opportunities to put it away, brown had a chance, mcdavid and frederic both coulda popped one. Oilers handed dallas the game with dumb penalties by perry and embellishment by duchene. Oilers will cone out swinging and wont let up next game. Enjoy your win dallas it just might be the last one you get. Go Oilers! 😊

  13. The only team that can beat the Oilers are the Oilers. Like watching a boxer knock himself out. It’s funny and exasperating at the same time. Oilers in 6.
