Seth Jones Made An Immediate Impact On The Florida Panthers

when I signed in Chicago, obviously there was a different plan and you know, they kind of took a different route with a new GM and everything. So, the timeline just you know, it didn’t work out for me and where that team wanted to go. They’re in a little bit more of the development stage uh of their organization and uh me being, you know, 30 years old now, kind of in the middle prime years of my career, wanted to give myself a chance to win. We’ve got some breaking news for you. The Chicago Blackhawks have traded defenseman Seth Jones to the Florida Panthers, upending the balance of power in the Eastern Conference for the defending Stanley Cup champions. I can’t tell you the number of times Bill Zitto’s mentioned a name and the first thought in my head is we got no chance of getting him. He’s a guy that you you never, you know, never expected to to, you know, get a guy like that on our team. So lucky that we were able to to get him and a player of his talent. He’s been an unbelievable addition to our team. I was blown away when I heard that he got traded to uh to Florida. He’s such a gifted player in so many areas. You have a guy that is is a great shut down Dman, but also so dangerous offensively. Seth Jones walks in, scores. Seth Jones breaks the ice. The real strength of this game may not be the offensive part alone. In the style of game that we play, he’s a large man that can close the gap. I think the last four years in Chicago, I was, you know, not playing my best hockey. When I’m watching video with, you know, whether it’s assistant coaches or or watching my own video, I can see like, oh, I should have done that. I should have done that. And a lot of the details of my game probably were slipping and I’m happy that uh I’m here and they’re they’re starting to come back. Great shot. Nine steel. Maybe fly now, baby. Fly. Got the middle. You got the middle. Great puck. Smart play. He jumped in and played huge minutes right away. and has been a incredible part of our defense and and just so steady every single night. He reads the play so well that the way he gaps up on people and kills plays, very defensively responsible. So, he just adds a completely different dynamic to the back end. Not in the new way the Norris Trophy is considered, but maybe in an older school way of Norris Trophy candidates, the defensive part of the game was almost equally as valued as the point production that he would be that kind of player for us. And for the first time in their history, the floor, the Panthers are Stanley Cup champions. I understand where these guys were, how they won last year. They played a lot of hockey. They know who they are. They know the system down to a tea and um I want to just come in and be a part of that. As great of a player on the ice, he’s been just an incredible guy off the ice and just such a great dude. So very lucky to have him on our team. Winning a championship is why everyone plays, right? These guys here have accomplished it. They understand what it takes and my goal is to come in and help them get to that goal again. Everyone is on one common goal in this locker room. No one cares about points. Nobody cares about personal stats, personal awards, this and that. They want to win the Stanley Cup and they had a taste last year, but you can still feel the hunger in the room and uh that’s super exciting.

Florida Panthers defenceman Seth Jones and his teammates discuss his acquisition from the Chicago Blackhawks, what he’s brought to the roster, and their championship aspirations in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

  1. I would like to hear what Seth Jones thinks about barkov drafted in second overall over him at this point when he is his teammate and barkov has become The best 2 way forward. Like does he understand why Florida did IT or does he still feel disrespected

  2. Seth Jones leads the team in TOI during the play-offs. Of the remaining teams, only Bouchard and Harley average more TOI (by ~10 seconds)….
Furthermore, Seth Jones has only accumulated 2 penalty minutes throughout the entire post-season (compared to his linemate Mikkola who almost leads the category at 33), and his +/- is better than both TOI leaders (4 and -6, respectively)

He wasn't joking about Florida playing a lot of hockey. Not only is he eating up tons of minutes allowing other players to rest, but his line is also statistically one of the safest to have on the ice. He might be getting old but he's still grinding away, and his work ethic is another major contributor to the Panthers' success.
