πŸ”΄ LIVE: Philadelphia Phillies vs Oakland Athletics | MLB Full Game | May 25, 2025 | Highlights

about to get started here. And pitching here today, Luis Severino and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble, trust that his stuff can have late life and miss barrels of bats. Bryson stop leading things off and takes a shot. [Music] Next one misses and account one and two and downstairs. That one drifts inside. [Music] swing and a miss. Struck him out and that’s the first out. Well, even though he strikes out, he saw a lot of pitches and he battled. Plus, he gave the guys behind him an opportunity to see more from the pitcher. Not the result he wanted, but that’s still a good at bat. Trey Turner the next to hit. Takes ball one. One out. Base is empty. That one fouled off. Severino just missed on the inside corner for a strike. And that is downstairs. All three strike. And a foul ball. He stays alive. [Music] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Severino kick, steals right through there for a strike. So top of the first and he’s got a chance to strike out the side. He’s looked razor sharp on the ground to the left. sends it across to first and the Phillies are set down in order. Three up, three down for Philadelphia. And now the Athletics offense gets its first shot here. No score. You’re dialed into the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the mound now, Ranger Suarez. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Bottom of the first, here’s the second baseman. Max Schuman rolled softly, but that goes foul. Oh. Come on, Max. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. That one way inside. Oh, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here, too. Two. He’s already seen the curve ball a couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming and that’s downed away. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Fouled off and they’ll do it [Music] again. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Quite the matchup we’re seeing here. Six foul balls in this at bat alone. really making him work out there. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Jacob Wilson digs in now. And that’s outside. Ball one. Schuman gets his lead at first with nobody out. Hit on the ground might be two. Quick feed to second for one. How about that double play? He’s so good at coming across the bag and snagging it with the bare hand to throw. I like the flare that he brings day in and day out. [Music] So now the DH spot. Tyler Soderstrom. Ball one low. Two out. Space is empty. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Brent Rooker in the on deck circle. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Let’s go. Too high. That’s ball four. Two walks in the first has to be some cause for concern. I mean, you’re talking about a guy you want to pitch deep into the ball game. It’s not going to help with the pitch count right there. They can’t afford to hand out free bases at this rate. And here is Brent Rooker. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Off the mark there. One ball, one strike. Slow curve ball drops in for a strike. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Leftielder. Here’s Miguel and Duhar. Pitch misses and that is ball one. [Music] And that’s in for a strike. First inning going a bit long. 23 pitches to this point. That one misses and it’s two and one. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire. And out there on the mound maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. And the pitch. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position. The hitters count. Nick Curts in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. The 3-1 and they’re all loaded up. Well, the stage has been set for this offense. It’s all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here. Two outs, bases full. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Ball one, no strikes. One ball, no strike. So, they’re all loaded up with two outs. Pressure’s on right here. Two count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in a run. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. There’s a swing in a miss. Two and [Applause] [Music] one. Battling here as he fouls it away. Two outs, bases are full. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Harper takes it himself out to escape a bases loaded jam unscathed. A’s threatened, but leave them loaded. We played an inning, no score. And we’re back. Second inning set to go. Kyle Schwarber comes up to hit here. Severino back to work that catches the zone for a strike. Throw and one. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Got him swinging. [Applause] Here’s Nicholas [Applause] Castillianos swinging a foul straight back. Come on. And now the one foul ball. That one close. Rule the ball. One and two to count. in the air left field down the line and a superb diving catch. [Applause] This dive wasn’t the result of a bad route. Singy. The only reason he made the play is because his route was so good. No doubt. Boo. Statcast tells the same story. I mean, he got to a spot as quickly as you can possibly get there. And he had to in order to have a chance at that diving play. Just special. Max Kepler in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. [Music] That’s down and in. One ball, one strike. [Music] Left field on Duhar on the move. And that is that. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Gioella to the plate. Gioella. Not close with that one. And that’s ball one. This one in the air. He’s there. He’s got it. And there’s one down. JJ Blade. This is JJ Blade. Come on. And there’s a foul ball. Hard on the ground to first and he takes it himself for the outer Johnny Par. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Johnny Pareda. And it’s fouled away. Two outs. That’s hard hit on the line. Tracks it down for the out. And that’ll do it. And the A’s are gone in order. We’ll move to the third with no score. onto the third inning. Now, here is Alec Bone. Alec Bow. Bone goes 6′ 5 in, hitting seventh in today’s lineup. A former first round pick back in 2018. One ball strike. Next pitch is outside. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. And he walked him on four pitches. And that’s their first base runner of the game. They all just came apart right there. Four pitch walk. and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of his own. Brandon Marsh steps to the plate. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. One strike. Top of the third, no score. Up the middle. Dive and he’s got it. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Well, they had the chance of turning two right there, but I don’t think he got a good grip on the ball as he tried to transfer from glove to throwing hand. They say you can’t assume a double play. I beg to differ at the big league level, but it’s going to be ruled as a fieldielder’s choice. And now the catcher comes up to him. Raphael Marawn on the ground. Could be two. Over to second for one. And that’s two. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We head now to the home half of inning number three. We’re tied nothing. Nothing set for the bottom of the third. Now it’s the second baseman, Max Schum. base Matt Schum. First pitch misses. You know, these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan and it’s working. Swing and a miss. And they count one and two. One ball, two [Music] strike, stays alive, swung on, popped up on the infield. Harper makes the play. One away. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Next up for the A’s, Jacob Wilson. 0 for one so far. That one well upstairs. One and0. That one missed. [Applause] That one misses. And that’s ball three. [Applause] That’s ball four. Tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. He’s been in a very giving mood today. Not bad. Next is the designated hitter, Tyler Soderstrom. He reached out to walk his first time. And that’s in there at the knees. As a left-handed hitter, you kind of expect that breaking ball from the lefty. So, you just want to track it and get an idea because you know it’s going to come into play later in the at bat. And that skips in the dirt. Well, with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt, a good secondary lead. Doesn’t have to get away from the catcher, but if you’re anticipating based off the trajectory, get yourself into scoring position. Beat him inside on that last pitch. And when you look back at the pitch sequence on that strikeout, it’s pretty interesting. Away, in, away, and then back in again. really commanded both sides of the plate right there and that makes it pretty tough to get comfortable in the box. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. One for one with a single so far. And takes low for ball one. One ball. No straight. Two gone, but the go ahead run is at first here in the last half of the third. on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Excellent stop right there. He wants to take it himself. Waves the pitcher off and continues to run into the dugout. And we’re back. John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Bryson Stock. Come on. That’s too low. Ball one headed towards the corner and a foul ball. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another the one two out to short Wilson on to first and one gone in the fourth. as they get the lead off man. Now batting short stop Trey Turner. Here’s Trey Turner. And that one fouled off. That misses and the count even. One and one. Fourth inning underway. No score. Bunting for a hit. Can’t pick it up with the bare hand. Safe at first. No play. We’ll see how they score this. He was racing down the line and probably didn’t assume he was going to be safe until his foot hit the bag and looked up for the umpire. Nice blunt and great hustle to get himself a knock. Here is Bryce Harper 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. In the air to left center. Leay moving under it. He’s got it. Two down. Now batting designated hitter Kyle Schwarber. And Kyle Schwarber will come up. Splits the plate. It’s 0 and one. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Oh, he hit him. And that got him pretty flush. Nick Castanos at the plate now. And remember, he was absolutely robbed of a base hit last time up. Fast ball for a strike at 95. First and second, two down. Top half of inning number four. Inside. Just missed. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one. This one in the dirt. Nothing happening on the bases though. Two aboard, two outs. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Flying around third is Turner. He will score and they take the lead. It’s an RBI single. One- nothing. just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. First and second, two outs. Kepler getting ready to hit. Foul ball there. two on, two outs. Swing and a miss. And he struck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now the left fielder, Miguel Anduhan. And first pitch doesn’t find the zone. There’s the strike of the knees. [Music] And it is two and one. Two ball one straight. Breaking ball misses down and away. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball, something in the zone because he does not want to allow the leadoff wall. Now a screamer into the outfield. Dives for it. Got it. Makes the play. Really nice job of tracking that one down. I noticed some initial hesitation ball off the bat. Didn’t look like he got a great read, but he made up for it by closing on it quickly. Laid out and hauled it in. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. And the first pitch misses for ball one. fought off foul. Home team down a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swing and a miss. And he was fooled. This guy’s sink has so much drop in it. It’s almost like a split finger fast ball. Instead of just weak contact and balls on the ground, he gets swings and misses. Slings to first in time. Now batting third base, Gio Urella. Here’s Gioella. He popped out to the catcher his first time off. And that drops in for a strike. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. Castianos moves on it. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is that. We go to the top of the fifth now at the plate. Alec Ble Severino back to work. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and [Music] one and a foul ball. Ow. And two now. That one the other way. Fair ball around first and hustling for second. And he’s got a leadoff double. Back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And now the center fielder, Brandon March, 0 for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time. There’s a [Music] strike. Swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. And there’s one down. Now that catcher Raphael Mar. Now it’s going to be Raphael Marawn. He hit into a double play his first time up. That one hit to right. Rooker under this one. Hauls it in for the out. Two away now. So the Philly batting order turns over and now Bryson Stock for two in this one. Swinging a miss. And that is strike one. top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. That misses now. One and two. Boom. On it. Second with two down. Line to left and pow ball. Man on second. Two down. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. Home half of the fifth. Coming up, it’s the Phillies one and the A’s nothing. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Here’s the center fielder JJ Blade. JJ Blade. And a swing and a miss. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. [Music] That one missing inside and a swing and a miss and one gone. That left-handed batter facing a left-handed pitcher that’s got some sink like that at the end. It’s just the bottom falls out of it when it looks like it’s going to be a pretty good pitch in that location that everyone says lefties love. So up next, Johnny Pareda. He’s 0 for one. First offering in the dirt. And that one missing low. Base is empty. One away. Last half of inning number five. And another ball. Fast ball for a [Music] strike. Swinging a foul straight back. [Music] can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. Well, that’s such a critical pitch in terms of execution right there. The pitcher has to finish it otherwise probably gets hit pretty hard. If you leave that out over the plate or you don’t get it down enough, quickly turns into something that gets smoked. But if you can place it where he did, it’s a really deceptive pitch. And now here is Matt Schuman right through there for a strike. Tap foul at the plate. Oh, this offense has just been locked down. Almost five full innings of shut out baseball. And they’ll do it again. Next offering down low and in the dirt. That’s a little bit low. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. And one, two, three go the A’s. They trail here one- nothing. Top six. Now it’s the shortstop. Trey Turner. Turner. That’s in there. And it’s 0 and [Music] one. There’s the strike. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. So, Trey goes down on strikes. Pretty much textbook pitching for the three pitch K right there. Jumped ahead 02 on two pitches he didn’t want to go after at the plate. Then knowing he’s going to be a little more aggressive trying to protect, expands just out of the zone where he couldn’t do anything with it. He gets the strike out and keeps the pitches thrown to a minimum. Very nice. Bryce Harper to the plate. Check swing and he went and that strike wall. One down. Base is empty. That one outside. And the count is one and one. He’s been very consistent with his command out there on the mound. Consistently throwing at the knees. Pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this. Caught him looking for the K. Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter. Yeah, he’s been very frugal today. Economical with the pitch count. Two down, base is empty. Kyle Schwarber stands in for the Phillies. And that’s in there for strike one. Over 80% of his first pitches are strikes. You’re doing that, you could have a really good day out there on the mound. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. And he swings through that one. Talk about tying a guy up. That was ugly. In the dirt and a count. One and two. Fights it off. He’ll see another. fouls it off. Still one and two and downstairs. That one misses. Full count. Three and two. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. And that’s inside and a good at bat ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Pitch count’s getting up there now. And not saying that’s the reason for this walk, but this is the point in the game when every sign of wavering starts to get everyone’s attention. Let’s go to baby on the ground to third. They take the force out and that will end the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors and one left on base. 234 do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Phillies one and the A’s nothing. Well, we go bottom six. And now the shorts stop. Jacob Wilson. The emmo for him is contact. the guy who’s going to deliver average, not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Y’all, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate. Ground ball left side, tosses to first. One away. Bottom of the six. designated hitter, Tyler Soderstrom. Now, the A’s designated hitter, Tyler Sodstrom. Sodestrom measures 6’2 in, 23 years old, and he’s usually in the outfield. Today, he’s the DH and a swing and a miss there. No ball, two strikes. Next pitch is outside. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the play disciplined to lay off of that pitch and he chases that one below the zone. Gets to it on the first out on the drop. Third strike. Two gone. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Brent Rooker. Just missed. [Music] Next offering is fouled back on the ground and that’s just fouled. Home team down a run here in the bottom of the sixth. Got him looking. So he picks up his six strike out of the ball game. make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Phillies one and the A’s nothing. So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Jeffrey Springs. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. Max Kepler at the plate. Leftielder Max Kepler. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Justin Sterner getting ready to go. Otanz warming up as well. On the corner for a strike and the count is 0 and [Music] two. O, that one went straight back and got our ump right in the mask. Let’s hope he’s okay. the 02 and the pitch is outside. Ball one. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. One and two here. Struck him out swinging. Slider got him for strike three. Well, that slider down and away. It’s just kind of a slow death with two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate. You know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it. Tell you what, sometimes you just have to tip your cap. Boom. Up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. And that’s off the outside edge. And that’s ball two. Base is empty. One away here in the top half of inning number seven. That’s to third. And that one handled over to first and two away to start the seven. Brandon Marsh. And digging in for Philadelphia, Brandon March. and ball one. One and0 to the right side. Schuman sends it to first and it’s a one, two, three inning. Down quickly go the Phillies. They lead it one- nothing. [Music] And we’re back. And now Miguel Anduhar leftielder Miguel Anduhar hit hard shoot the extra bases and the tying runs at second base with a double. Well clearly he was ready to hit right there. Pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap. And I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle. So many positives that led to that knock. Now we’ll see if they can pick up that tying run and start us over here in the late innings. So the tying run in scoring position now. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Pitches in there at strike one. trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. [Applause] Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Coming home. Here’s the throw. It’s offline and he scores. It’s one. His confidence level is so high. Really nice job of coming through in a big spot. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Ranger Suarez gives way and that was a start he can feel pretty good about. Tie ball game and new pitcher when we get back. Orion Kirkering gets the call from the pen. Coming on to face a righty here. And he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Gorella steps in. [Applause] That missed by a lot. Ball one. [Applause] way by the go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out [Applause] that one. Not close. And that’s ball three. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. That one’s in there. And now three balls and a strike. So, Walk puts runners at first and second. And with two outs, the go-ahead run is at second base. And now the center fielder, JJ Blade. off the mark there and that is ball one. Some bullpen action for Philadelphia. Matt Strom, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Swinging a foul out of play. Curts at second. Ursella out at first with nobody out. And there’s a ball. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. In for a strike. Two and two now. Two balls. two straight [Music] cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Johnny Pareda. on the corner for a strike. Elbow one strike. The next pitch misses and that’s ball one. Way to lay off that pitch down. Misses the sweeper. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Big strike out there as he works to strand that go ahead run at second base. But job’s not done yet. Got to get that last out before you can exhale and get back into the dugout. It’s kind of tough to do with this home crowd applying so much pressure. Max Schuman will hit next. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah. I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. Looks like he’s sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. That one in there across the letters. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. And here’s a slow roller. He takes it on his own and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. Call even now at 1-1. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Justin Sterner, left-handed batter at the plate. And he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Raphael Marawn stands in for the Phillies. Raphael Marang at a highf fly ball. Well struck. That one is back. Gone. That should get the dugout going. His first homer of the year and they lead it. It’s 21. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. [Applause] Welcome to the game. First pitch out of the bullpen, a tough one. and you know, he’s just trying to get one in there for a strike. And on the other side, as a hitter, it’s a great time to be aggressive and let it fly. It’s not what they were looking for when they turned to him. But now he’s got to find a way to reset. Back to the top of the order now. This is Bryson stop for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That one ripped left field. It’s got a chance. That one hops against the fence and he’s got a double. Oh, no. Waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. This was a really nice swing. Didn’t quite get enough behind it to get it out of here, but once it got over his head in left field, it was extra bases all the way. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Trey Turner stands in for the Phillies. One for three. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. Oh, and one. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top of the eighth. One ball, one strike. With the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered, he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. That one outside. And now two balls and two strikes. [Music] And the swing and a miss. The hattick one out. I think he just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up. The two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Here comes Bryce Harper 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Pitches in for a strike and one part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. [Music] man at second. Ground ball right side. Harper retired. Now batting designated hitter Kyle Schwarber. Kyle Schwarber now at the plate. Gotta be careful with a slugger like this because he can turn it into a three-run game in the blink of an eye. That one hammered but pulled fouled. [Music] Pitch misses there and now it’s even one and one. And a curve misses outside. [Music] Yeah, that’s fouled off. That’s down and in. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Come back to the mound. They throw to first. Shorter out on the play. They limit the damage here. The Phillies get one by way of the long ball. And this is now a 2-1 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Max Lazar. He’s making his second appearance of the season. Max Lazar, Jacob Wilson digs in now. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. That’s a little high. And that’s ball one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. [Music] Swing and a miss. Strike one. Two and one. [Music] And that is out of play. Looking to get the tying run on base. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. That one down the line and it goes just foul. Try to get him to chase him to change up that time. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. That one gets down for a hit and that puts the tying run on base. Nice and bad right there. Not just the result, but also seeing a lot of pitches made him really work out there on the mound. That ball right there landed in what they call a no man’s land, meaning it’s not really a spot on the field where you can expect anyone to get to it easily. I mean, it’s a tough play going back for the shortstop, but also for the outfielders trying to come in. They got to go a long way as well. Digging in Tyler Sodstrom in the first pitch misses for ball one. That one missed. Two balls, one strike [Music] in the air. Center field. March gets under it, pulls it in, and there’s one away. Now that is right fielder Brent Rooker. So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Brent Rooker. This one chopped on the ground but foul. Swinging a ground ball and it’s just foul. That was close with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here in the dirt. Blocked and the runner holds. holding on to a one-run lead near the bottom half of the eighth inning. Not close with that one. And the count is two and [Music] two. Rips one to right. Could be extra [Music] bases. Oh, the throw is over his head. Doesn’t get too far away. So no one moves up. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the barrel. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Really important at bat coming up now. Next to hit Miguel Anduhar. First pitch just misses. Don’t be surprised to ball on the ground to the corners that they come home with the baseball instead of going to first base. One out. The possible tying and go-ahead runs on base. Stirring in the Phillies bullpen. Jordan Romano getting loose out there. Ruiz also getting ready. [Music] Two on, one out and he grounds one to the right side and he can’t come up with it in to score from third. Tie game here in the eighth. A second scores as well. They lead it in the eighth. Great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. And the Phillies manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make a move. Max Lazar is done and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Well, new pitcher will be the lefty Matt Stum. And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with a lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know. I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. Now Nick Curts just missed one ball. No strike. [Music] on the ground. Two ball. He flips it to second in time. And that’s quick work out of the pen. One batter, two outs. Inning over. A couple of runs in the inning puts them ahead through eight full. It’s the A’s three and the Phillies two. Back now. And on the mound, the closer Mason Miller. And we all know about a slider. It’s just guilty, man. And one of the better runs in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a tongue. Well, one-run game. So, digging in now for Philadelphia. Nick Castanos. That’s inside. One and0. fast ball for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. And a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. Gets a piece and stays alive. Swings and misses on the fast up in the zone for the strike out. Oh, that right there is what you want to see out of your closer. come in and close the door, cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game. Tell you what, that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs. Kepler in the box now takes strike one. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never had a chance. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Got him swinging. It’s a strike out. Phillies have just one out remaining. This is definitely what a team likes to see out of their closer. Come in and just destroy all hope. First two batters, two strikeouts. See if he can strike out the side. Last chance for the Phillies. Alec Bow the next to hit. And there’s the strike. A on one lead here in the top of the ninth. Hit to right and that should do it. And that’ll do it. The A’s hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. Ninegame losing streak. No one wants to get to double digits in that column. So to come out today, break it, win, get that good feeling back again, go into the clubhouse, turn up the music, enjoy it, everything tastes better, you’re going to sleep better, and you come back out tomorrow and you get another win. Let me move.
