Mikko Rantanen, Pete DeBeor & Jason Robertson Respond to Dallas Stars WCF GM3 Loss vs. Edmonton
[Applause] We’ll start uh left side, second row. Nick, hey Pete, um you had the edging shot attempts in the first period. It was lopsided in the second period, yet you’re down 3-1. Just how do you analyze that? Uh, you know what I like I I mean obviously the third goal is a kind of backb breaker at the end of the second period. I I I loved our game to that point. You know, I thought we carrying momentum. We were doing a lot of good things. um you know they they get that goal right at the end of the second period and you know it kind of bleeds in the third the third but uh you know there’s building blocks like I said there uh you know for us to uh start winning some of these games and uh you know I’m not as focused on the score as I am on our as I am on our game and uh you know we just got to keep building our game. Right side front row Mike. Hey Pete, how close was Rupe and what was the adjustment to that and how it how did the adjustments affect you guys? How close is Rupe? Was he in the game tonight? Well, I mean he tried to warm up but you know not no he wasn’t close or if he was close he probably would have played. Um well adjustments what you’re without your number one center. So you know but I thought our guys I give our guys credit. They they didn’t mail it in. They they showed up and and worked left side front row Tim. Yeah. And on the decision to play Jason there, he he hasn’t had a strong playoff. Did you think he was best option to try to get that line going? Robo. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I did. And you know what? It was his his best game. I think he ended up with five shots. I don’t know. Did he get credit for the goal for us? Yeah. So, and we need him. We need we need that scoring out of him. We haven’t had it. Um there’s no doubt he’s a he’s been a step behind since he came back in. I thought tonight there was signs of him getting back up to speed and doing some of those things. So that that’s a good sign we need him. Stay in that same role, Leah. Hey Pete, last year it felt like there was kind of a point in the series where they grabbed it and kind of ran away with it. What makes this group maybe more equipped to push back? Yeah. Yeah. I’m I’m trying to think, you know, last last year, you know, I think we we left here 2-2, right? We lost game five was was the decide, you know, for me the deciding game in last year’s series. We came in here in game six and played a fantastic game. You know, probably deserve better. So, I think every series is different. Um, you know, we’ve just got to we don’t have to win three games in this building. We got to win one and win our home games. right side, third row. Hey Pete, um to piggyback off of that, you know, the last couple years your team has been down in situations like this before, you know, Minnesota, Seattle 2-1 deficits, Vegas 20 last year. What does it take to rally back from that point? And do you see the similar kind of belief from those teams in this team? Yeah, I think there’s I think there’s belief in our room and uh you know, again, we we’ve for me if if uh you know, there’s there’s good signs in our game. So, you know, if we if we can keep bringing that game to the rink, um you know, I like our chances of of coming back in this series. Left side, front row, Pierre. Pierre Pete, uh obviously there were some great A’s there against him, but what do you think of Jake’s play, uh you know, in the series and tonight? Yeah. Um, you know, I I think well tonight, listen, I I I think, you know, we wouldn’t be here sitting here in the conference finals without Jake and how he’s played. You know, tonight was one of those games where uh you know, they were opportunistic and then once I they got the lead, you know, we’re we’re pushing to get back in and and there’s great A’s the other way. So, um, you know, one one thing I know about Jakeer for me, he’s he’s one of the best response goalies in the league. And, you know, I I’m I know he’s not going to drag around tonight’s game. Right side, fourth throw. Hey, coach, over the years, uh, the group has spoken about your calming effect in the locker room after performances like this. Will that be one of your messages is just for them to remain calm? Talk about that just a little Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, I I think depending on the situation tonight, uh, you know, we’re without our number one center. We’re on we’re on the road here, uh, in a tough environment. I I thought we played, you know, a really good hockey game for a big stretch of that game. So, there’s nothing to get, you know, emotional or or upset about. I think I think you have to be realistic with your group. So, uh, I liked our compete tonight. I liked a lot of parts of our game and uh we’ve got to build on that and you know hopefully get Rupe Hens back and get back in the series. Anything else? Yeah, Pierre, wait for the microphone, will you please? Thanks. You may have said at the beginning, I apologize, but on Rupy, you know, you said he was game time. He doesn’t play as dayto day or Yeah, I would call him dayto day. Yeah. Thanks, Pete. Does that frustrate you as far as that? It’s hard that 18 seconds left and we ruined a very good period. Yeah, you know, I think 22 shots in this second period, only one goal and he end up tying the period, you know. So, yeah, I think Skinner was difference maker tonight, you know. I think he was he was really good. He made key saves even when he was 3-1, you know, Segi had a great A in the slot, he makes a save and 10 seconds later it’s 4-1. So he was the MVP of the match I would say. And you you hit a post right right on that power play. I mean is that how is that the margin right now? Yeah. Well, you got to got to keep working on those, you know, to to try to get that go post and in and uh but yeah, I think second of the second period was the is the staple, you know, how we want we need to play against this team and yeah, we haven’t been as good uh finishing chances, especially you know, I think game one we had a power play a game and but five on five we got to find a way to u finish our chances a little bit more. You know, I think obviously Skinner is making good things but or making good saves, but we got to make uh life harder for him. Is there something on the road? I think you were shut out the two previous games and then first two periods here. Yeah. Well, I don’t know. It’s um it should be the same game. Obviously, it’s a little different energy. The everybody’s against you, but but um I think this team has always been a good road team and you know, we got to just win the next one. You know, that’s the that’s the mentality now. get some rest. Reset. We had a little bit longer rest since it was afternoon game and now we just we think about the one game and we need to win that one. When you’re generating chances and not finishing what’s the key to not kind of submitting to the frustration that comes with that? Yeah, it’s sometimes tough to when you get so many chances. Like I said, 22 shots in the second and only get one goal, you know, it’s it’s frustrating, you know, and it’s sometimes hard to not let the frustration come, but we got to do our best to not let it come to our our minds, you know. We we just got to stick with it and and um you know, try to limit their chances as well. You know, I think still there’s things we can clean up and and u not give them as many looks to score because they’re scoring on a high pace now. Were you hopeful for Rupe playing today or was it a long shot? Yeah, I think he was in the warm-up so it was pretty close, I would say. Yeah. Is it deflating when he can’t go? I mean, obviously one of your best players in last second can’t can’t play. Yeah. Yeah, it is. You know, he’s a good player. obviously one of our our our one of our best players and and a really good two-way centerman who can really change the change the game. So So next man up mentality, you know, we had Miro missed, you know, first round and even some of the second. So we just got to find a way if he can go. Are you are you a believer in being momentum in the playoffs or is every game a fresh slate? I think there is some momentum but I think you know it ch changes so quick that I would say it doesn’t really matter if you lose 10-1 or or one nothing you know if you get a good start next game get get a good quick quick lead the momentum shifts the other way so I think hockey is just a game where you you have momentum more I would say inside the game this has been a good comeback team backs against the wall team and your time so far with this group what have you learned about where that comes Yeah, I think there’s no quit in the room, but that’s for sure. And and just keep playing, you know, we just we never stop playing, I would say. And obviously unfortunate in the third, you know, it’s only 3-1 and then they get three goals in the third. So, we got to try to limit that, you know, not to give them confidence with scoring a lot of goals and and uh but yeah, I think the comebacks come, it’s a mental toughness thing. Thank you. Obviously, this is a tough one. You guys played very well in second period there and things just kind of almost like last game. You’re doing a lot of good things and yet it’s not paying off it seems like. Yeah. Uh it’s how it was felt like tonight. Um we had that structure that uh I thought we played pretty good our structure but I mean one slip up couple slip ups and they’re a dangerous team um and they can score goals. How important now is I think you guys have struggled on the road up to this point to go on the road here and win in game four. Yeah. all. I mean, it’s definitely not going to be easy. Um, I mean, definitely think we have some things that we did today that, you know, can translate. Um, but we do definitely have to tighten some things up. Jason, how would you describe just the overall frustration at this point? Well, I mean, it’s two in the series. I think we still have an opportunity to try to get one on the road. So, I don’t think it’s have any frustration. We know what we have to do. Um, a lot of veterans in this locker room. Um, and I mean they’re going to be up uh to the challenge on uh Tuesday. And what’s allowed you guys I mean each of the last couple years with Pete, you know, you guys have come back from down 2-1, down two in a series. What’s allowed that? Well, I think just sticking to the plan um and relearning what we can do uh making those small adjustments. Um but um I thought there were some good things that we did tonight. Um we’re going to have to do it better on Tuesday. What What did you like through two periods? I think the high danger of the second period was like 10 to one for Dallas. Like what did you like and and is it just a matter of finishing? Yeah, I thought uh I mean their goalie played really well. Um that was a big part of it. Uh we had a lot of interior shots um shot attempts. Um slowed down their you know slow down their rush a bit, their transition, but um I mean they you give them a little bit and they’ll take it. And um I mean they countered uh that one goal and u and a couple of those goals. So, um, just have to tighten up a little bit. When Robe like warmed up and then couldn’t go, like what’s that do to a room, right? Like when one of your top players like last minute can’t play. Yeah, I think everyone needs to bear down. Next man up. Um, Oscar comes in. I thought he did a great job. Um, especially on the kill. Um, but it’s up to everyone to step up. Um, and uh, try to go out there and perform. So, um, see what happens Tuesday, but, uh, it’s that next man up mentality. Did you know you were playing on that line if he couldn’t go? Uh, they just made that adjustment and, um, yeah, they, uh, stepped up. Do you feel like they’re a better team than they were last year? Uh, I mean, they they have the pretty similar nucleus, um, of players, obviously. Um, two best players in the world. um good solid uh depth around them. Um so, you know, I think they’re I mean, they’re they’re pretty good team. I mean, every team’s going to be good at this time of the year. Um it’s up to us to try to match that. Is it hard to take when you play a really dominant period like that and then Big David scores with 18 seconds left? Yeah, well, that’s the playoffs. I mean, uh you know, we do have that kind of uh games going the other way for us this playoff series. Um but um it is what it is. Um definitely I thought we responded well in the third period right away. Um then obviously let it slip away, but um it is what it is. Did the puck get you? Did you deflect it or did it hit you on the go? I didn’t see it. Did you deflect it? Oh, I don’t know. Okay. Honest question. I didn’t see it. No, I don’t know. Okay. Does it feel pretty good to finally get that first playoff goal for you? Is it Gian? Oh, yeah. Yeah. You’re on the sheet as well. You got credit for the goal, so that’s why I was asking. Oh, really? Oh, I didn’t even know that. No, I’m sorry. I didn’t know that. Oh. Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know. I mean, whatever. I have a lot of scoring chances today. Um, and uh hopefully he goes in more. Cool. Hey, hey, hey.

Oilers look locked in but a scary locked in not good for dallas
stars are cooked
Skinner is finding his game at the right time
Dallas just doesn't has the same ingredients as the opponent does, or close to the similar talent level:97&29, even you do everything right.
Yes the oilers showed them how to score goals.
Avs would have been a stronger opponent
Shots don’t win games. My dad used to say you can outshoot, outhit, and out skate a team, but until you out score them you’ve done nothing.
No excuses but Stars didn't get any favors from Refs
I’m wondering if stars fans think Oettinger is a junior league goalie? We did score 6 goals on him.
Go Oilers Go
Who thought they were even going to beat the avs?
No one's beating Florida
Stars are a good team. Oilers are better. Oilers in 5
6-1 Is A DISGRACE, God knows how much I heard "Edmonton is dominating Dallas" throughout the game. This team HAS to be more physical, and needs to start putting some shots in the net. They need to stop being lazy on defense man, that was the true back breaker just letting McDavid be WIDE OPEN in our zone.
DeBoar and dallas fans harp on the missed call with the puck over the glass….. but none say anything about the bogus high sticking powerplay they got for a HUGE mistake by the refs.
They are only 2-1 down. If they win the next game its advantage back to the Stars. its not over until its over.
"Building blocks there to start winning some of these games…" Building Blocks are relevant until you get more grown up out of diapers & you go to Lego next!
Stars have been out scored 5v5 all 3 rounds.
Only reason they aren’t down 0-3 is because the Oilers weren’t disciplined for one period.
The stars just dont seem fast enough or tough enough to compete with Edmonton
Hahaha stars suck
Series over and done. OILERS have home 🧊 vs Florida.
only pussies don't play with a broken leg
Haha…time to pack it up de hore
Wyatt Johnston +/- in this years playoffs needs to be studied
Stars have to find a way to win game 4, or this series is pretty much over.
I am an Edmonton fan, but dallas is a heck of a team, this series isnt over yet. All comes down to the bounces .
