We’ll have to deal with that as the Cardinals will go with Sunny Gray. He’s part of the pitching matchup today brought to you by Vantage Credit Union, your financial partner for life. Sunny is making his 11th start of the year. He’s 5-1 with a 4.02 ERA and the 35-year-old has been a all-star three different times and he was really good. I mean really good his last time out and that came against Detroit. He went six innings and he gave up just three hits, no runs, had one walk and struck out 10 against a very good Detroit Tigers team. He’s only had one start against Arizona. almost not worth talking about it because it was a long long time ago back in 2015 10 years ago and he lost that game but pitched well to a very different Diamondbacks team and he was in a different uniform himself. Brandon F will pitch for the Diamondbacks. He has a career record of 21 and 22 with a 4.85 erra and he started a World Series game back in 2023. The last time Arizona was there, he was up against Max Scherzer in that game. And the Cardinals again going for the sweep today. And they’re doing it because they came up with some offense late. And twice that offense was delivered by the Cardinal right fielder Jordan Walker. As Kelly waits, he comes to the plate one more time. And Walker lines into left field. Here comes Berles. The ball gets away from the left field. It goes to the ball. Here comes Aronado. He’s going to try and score. There’s no snow. The Cardinals have now taken a lead. They lead 3-1 on a base hit by Doug Walker. Walker singles to center. The Cardinals go back in front. A three RBI game for Walker. A two hit game. The Cardinals have the lead at six to five. Walker will be in the Cardinals lineup again here this afternoon. And I’ll have the rest of the lineups for you when we come back. Discover a great baseball getaway in historic St. Charles, Missouri. Welcome back to Bush Stadium. Let’s go over our starting lineups here this afternoon. And they are presented by Bet 365. And we’ll begin with Cory Lavell’s Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are in a very tough division this year. The National League West is really packed and the Diamondbacks have lost four straight. They’re now in fourth place. six games out and Lavell was the National League manager of the year in 2017. And here is his lineup. Corbin Carroll will lead off and he will play right field. He packs a wall of 15 big flies. He does strike out a bit, 59 strikeouts. And he’s one of several players, five players in the Arizona Diamondbacks lineup that have more than 30 RBI’s. 30 or more. The Cardinals don’t have one at that point, but the Cardinals of course are scoring well, too. But this uh Arizona Diamondback team can hit the big fly. They lead the uh major leagues in doubles and they also uh can score a lot of runs. So Carol will lead things off in right field. He’s a good one. So is Cadell Marte and Marte will play second base. He’s a switch hitter and he’ll bat in that second hole. Lordis Buriel Jr. will play left field and hit third. Josh Naylor at first. Aeno Suarez having another good year. He’ll play third base. Haven Smith the DH bats next. Gabrielle Moreno will do the catching and bat seventh with Alec Thomas in center and Heraldo Perdomo playing shortstop. On the Cardinal side, Lars Newar will lead things off and he is two for six against Brandon F in his career with a home run. He’ll be in left field. Mason Win has hit 364 against Diamondbacks in his career. He’ll play shortstop and bat second with Brendan Donovan playing second base hitting third. In the cleanup spot, it’ll be Ivon Herrera who’s been on base at least once in 16 straight game. Alec Burles’s having a good home stand. He’ll play first base in bat fifth with Nolan Aronado at third base hitting next. Jordan Walker, two big hits, three RBI’s yesterday. Will be in right field. Pedro Pahes behind the plate and Victor Scott the second also having a good home stand will be in center field. So there’s your lineups. We’ll have more from Bush Stadium after this. Still threatening at at least at points during the afternoon here. But as for now, it’s Sunny Gray completing the warm-up tosses right now with Pedro Pahes behind the plate. and Sunny will deliver the first pitch of the game sponsored by Rawlings, the official baseball of Major League Baseball as the Cardinals go for the sweep today against a very good Diamondback team. And their record is 26 and 26, but they’ve lost their last four. And the ball goes around the infield in the hands of Aronado at the moment. And now Sunny Gray has it. And we’re about ready for baseball. Corbin Carroll will lead things off. Very dynamic young player for the Diamondbacks. And Sunonny Gray is uh doing the final touches on his landing spot right in front of the mound. And we’re about ready to go. Manny Gonzalez will be behind the plate calling balls and strikes. And calling our first pitch here this afternoon is the voice of the Cardinals, John Rooney. Okay, Ricky, welcome back. I hope the assignment was not too taxing. It was terrific. Here’s the first pitch of the game and it’s taken for a ball outside by Corbin Carroll. 115 and it’s a cool one in downtown St. Louis at 62Β°. We have some mist and we had some light rain through the morning. The next pitch, a strike called Sunny was able to land the sinker over knee high. Left-handed batting Corbin Carroll, the rookie of the year back in 2023. He was an all-star that year. He can run. Here’s a sweeper in for a strike. The last outing for Sunny Gray was a win on Monday against Detroit. He had most everything working that game. Oh boy, was he good. He was hitting his spots. His man was good. Had 10 punch outs in sixth inning. He only gave up three hits. The pitch to Carol. Swung on. And there’s a fly ball left field. Long run in. Nbar. He slides and makes the catch. That’s a way to start the game. Turn in a nice play behind your pitcher. Well, that ball did not carry at all off the bat of Carol. I thought it might be about normal range in left field and I think Newar thought the same thing. He had to really turn it on to make that play on the slide. I think this haze and this missed, it may be a little difficult to pick up the ball off the bat at times today. And here’s Catel Marte. Marte has six for his last 20, including two doubles, two homers. He has two doubles and a home run in this series. He comes in hitting 278. The pitch by Sunny Gray. There’s a strike call. Marte, a two-time Allstar. Three for eight in the series. He has been hit by a pitch. Has a stolen base. He does so many things well. The pitch to the switch batter batting left-handed. He takes upstairs. One ball and one strike. Marte at 292. 36 home runs last year driving at 95. One and one. The count on Marte. The pitch by Sunny Gray is swung on and that’s lined into center for a base hit. A fast ball out over the plate. Marte is on for Lordis Guriel Jr. Guriel on the series. Four for eight. A run batted in and a stolen base. Buriel stepping up to the plate on their road trip. He’s six out of 19 with a homer and three RBI and one of five guys in their lineup that has 30 or more RBI’s on the season. He is right at 30 to go along with eight homers. Ariel checks and takes a strike. A cutter on the first pitch that catches the corner. Former Toronto Blue Jay playing left field for the Arizona Diamondback. He had 279 for them last year. And against Sunny Gray, one for three with a walk and two runs batted in. Buriel trying to get comfortable in the batters box. Sunny Gray leans against the rubber listening in for the sign from Pedro Pah. A look to first. Marte off to a safe lead over there in the pit. Burielle takes a sweeper inside when twisting out of the way to avoid being hit by that. And then the ball broke away from his body. I’ve noticed that our starter today has pitched on more gray days than sunny days in 2025. Well, we have Sunny and we have Gray. Making the start. His 13 home wins since the beginning of last season. Here’s a popup right side of the infield on the skin part of the infield. Donovan dances with it. Makes a one-handed grab. Two down. Hurry popped up. I think the sun’s trying to peek out right now. Pretty dark in downtown St. Louis. Again, rain may be part of the uh proceeding today. And we’ve had the lights on since well before the game. And here is Josh Naylor, a 2024 All-Star with the Cleveland Guardian. 27 years old from Ontario, Canada. The pitch by Gray. Up and away a ball. Pretty good history between these two. Gray and Naylor. Six out of 19. Two homers, five RBI’s, a walk and two strikeouts for Naylor. Headto-head with the Cardinal starter. Ray looks over the shoulder to first base. That’s where Marte takes the lead. The pitch, a line drive it just past the diving Burles headed toward the right field corner. Marte makes third. He’s going to get the stop sign there with the throw coming in on the double by Josh Naylor. Naylor is three out of nine now. A triple, a double, a run scored, and two RBI’s. He’s having a pretty good series. I like what the Cardinals do on their relay on a play like that. They they have Donovan go to the second base bag and they bring Mason Win over to be the cut off man. I mean, he has a long way to run to get over towards the first base bag, but that’s where he is. And now you’ve got your strong arm and I think that’s part of the reason they held him at third. The Cardinals defended it well. Second and third with two outs for Auhaneo Suarez. Suarez formerly with the Cincinnati Reds. A swing and a miss. Gray with a center cut fast gets ahead in the count. Suarez went from Detroit to Cincinnati where he was an all-star in 2018 with the Reds onto Seattle and then landed in Arizona. Hit 30 home runs for the Dbacks last year. The pitch Suarez swings and misses the sweeper. No balls, two strikes. Suarez is batting 219. He has 41 hits, 14 home runs, and 38 RBI. He has struck out 52 times, including three in this series. The pitch by Gray just outside and Suarez thought about it but let it go by for ball one, one and two. Matthew Liberator stood tall with runners at third in the game yesterday. He was able to strand some key runners. The pitch, a swing, and a fly ball right field. Walker on the run. won’t catch it. Two runs are going to score. A little flare off the end of the bat into right field and Suarez has 40 runs batted in. Two nothing Arizona. Second player hit of the inning, but they count just like the line drive hit by Naylor. And here’s Pav Smith. Smith got a hit against Helsley in the ninth inning yesterday. one for three in the series. He’s dhing the pitch to the left-handed better taken for a ball low. Vorz hit that ball off the very end of the bat. Wasn’t even sure where the ball was going at first. Just trying to protect. Really not a bad placement by Sunny Gray. Down and away. And unfortunately a bad result. So a two-run single. Three hits in the inning with two outs. A pitch taken high for a ball. Two and0. Two and0 on Pave Smith. Gray didn’t give up a run to the Detroit Tigers in the win on Monday going six innings. He’s 0 and one lifetime against the Diamondback. The pitch jammed him in a foul ball that goes off the catcher in the home plate umpire. Bah is behind the plate. The home plate umpires Manny Gonzalez. Burlson is holding at first base against Suarez who has one steal in one attempt. Out the stretch, Sunny Gray’s pitch, right called two and two. Gray pitched against Arizona back in his days with the A’s. 116 victories for Sunny Gray against 95 losses. But two two pitch instead of throw to first. Backstanding. Suarez Donovan is at second base today. Win at shortstop playing up the middle. Aronado is playing like a shortstop way off the line. Dupar in left, Scott in center, Walker in right, high behind the plate with Sunny Gray on the mound. Haven Smith standing back in left foot to the back line of the batters box for the tall left-handed batter out of the University of Virginia. The pitch is swung on and missed. The Cavaliier strikes out, but two runs came in on a single by Suarez. The Diamondbacks have two and the Cardinals are coming up at Bush Stadium. Support a local nonprofit making a difference right next door in downtown St. Louis. Gateway Arch Park Foundation. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. He has two no decisions against the Cardinals. The right-hander whines and pitches. A strike called Delars Newar who used his batter’s timeout before the first pit. Bot with two no decisions last year. Last pitched in this part on the 22nd of April 2024. Two hits to earn runs and that covered five and a third. A ball down and in for Newbar. One ball and one strike. The Diamondbacks put up three hits and scored two times in the top of the first. Now the Cardinals are trying to put a good answer up there behind Sunny Gray. Here’s a pitch outside. Ball two. Two and one. New for the series. One for six. A walk, a hit by pitch. He has scored a run. They play him to pull on the infield. The wind up and Fox’s two-1 pitch. Dar gets under this one and a high fly straightaway center field. Alec Thomas waits and makes a one-handed grab. One down. Had a very interesting start to his career. He was a guy that was kind of struggling a little bit in in 22 and 23. not quite kind of uh putting it all together. And then he developed at the right time and he had a great second half of 20 23 and he ends up being one of their starters in the playoffs and in the World Series as a rookie and really maybe their most reliable guy in September and October. He’s seven and three this year. 3.81 RA starting for the 11th time. Mason W looks at strike one over at the knees. Quinn is one for four a walk and a strikeout facing pot. Mason is five for his last 19 with a run batted in. Quinn takes a strike. Speaking of young pitchers developing, Quinn Matthews pitched again today. His second rehab assignment. Went three innings. He gave up only two hits, no runs, no walks, four punch outs. So a good outing for him. Two nothing in favor of the Diamondbacks. 0 and2 on whim with one out in the home half of the first and a 95 mph pitch. Goes outside for a ball. One and two on deck. Brendan Donovan. Bot with the sign. The overhead windup. The right-handers pitch is fouled off the end of the bat. Turn two with Aussie. That’s back on May 30th and July 21st. Cardinals fans can turn a double play with Aussie Smith on the field right here at Bush Stadium. Go to cardinals.com/ussie where you can learn more. A one-two pitch for Mason Win. He fouls that off the end of the bat going after a pretty good breaking ball at 86 m an hour. Bot is 21 and 22 in his major league career. His 62nd game, start number 61. He has a 4.85 career erra. his pitch. Win fouls another one back to the screen. He’s just barely getting a piece of those staying alive. We’ve seen several at bats from Mason Win over the last, say, two weeks where he’s really worked the pitch count, which you know, you think about your leadoff guy doing that. Newar certainly capable of doing it. When you’ve got two guys at the top of the lineup, that’s a very helpful thing to have. Lot of hitting room between the first baseline and Naylor, the first baseman, playing towards second. Here’s a pitch that just misses outside. 96 miles an hour and and F has a little cut to that 96 mph pitch. The wind didn’t pull the trigger and it’s two and two. The pitch on the way to the Cardinal shortstop. He swings and misses going for a heartbreaking ball away. Before Donovan steps in, let’s step out for station identification on the Cardinals radio network powered by Greybar. Proficient is a global digital consulting leader and a proud Cardinal partner. A true St. Louis success story. Proficient is shattering boundaries and forging the future with the world’s biggest brands. Kam St. Louis. KFM. Hey Wood. Here’s a strike called. That’s 94 just above the knees. Brendan Donovan facing Brandon F. DF A DT. Fought into the windup. A one strike pitch inside and low. So it’s Brandon facing Brendan. But Donovan up for the first time today. One out of five in the series. Two walks, a hit by pitch and a run scored. They plan to pull on the infield. Right field corner completely unguarded. Time taken by Donovan. Now the pitch timer starts as fought. listens in for the sign from Gabrielle Moreno doing the catching today for the Dback. The 1-1 pitch. Donovan fouls that off to the left. Bot has a long delivery. Goes over his head and well all the way over his head almost to the back of his neck and then has a long delivery and then slings the ball at the last second. I would think timing him would be a challenge. Here’s the one-two pitch. Donovan rips that to right field. That’s going to get down and that’s going to the wall. Coming up with the ball, Corbin Carroll is throw in. Not in time. A sliding double for Brendan Donovan with two down. His 17th team leading 17th double of the year. And for Brendan Donovan, his 63rd hit. And here’s Ivon Herrera. What a big lift this would be if Herrera could pick up a run for the Cardinals after the Dbacks scored two. And if the Cardinals could get this done with two down in the first inning, the pitch to Herrera. He looks at ball one low. Donovan got a pitch he could pull and slapped it past Carroll to the wall. Now Brendan takes a lead away from second base. Here one for six in the series. Two walks, a run scored, and a run batted in. The pitch, a strike. Donniey’s got a huge lead at second base, too. The only one close to him is the second base umpire. That’s Ron Pulpa. But the second baseman’s not giving up ground from his normal position, nor is Purdomo at short. The 1-1 pitch here for Herrera. Down and in. Ball two. Two balls in a strike. Herrera is trying to get this line moving here. Donovan came through with a two out double after Herrera. It’s Berles, Aronado, Walker, Pais, and Scott rounding out the lineup. The two-1 pitch with two away and a runner on second base. A swing and a line drive hit into center field. Up with the ball quickly. It’s Thomas. Donovan’s trying to score. The throw on through. Not in time. Throw back to first. Herrera makes it in there safely. The Cardinals do come up with the run. Two to one Arizona. And I wonder about that extra step or two for Donovan off of the second base bag to allow him to score. Not a bad throw by Thomas in center. And he was fairly shallow too for Herrera. And he got to the ball quickly, but the big lead by Donovan gives him the ability to get home just in front of that play at the plate. Well done. A double and a single after two outs. And now Berles is at the plate. Four home runs, 16 RBI’s. And there goes the runner for second. Berles takes a strike. A stolen base for Herrera without a throw as he stole that one 100% off Brandon F. The first steal for the Cardinal DH. Now base hit and tie the game. The pitch. Berles takes a let up outside. One ball, one strike. All you could do is kick yourself when that happens as a pitcher. There there’s no there’s nobody to blame but yourself. Let’s see if it affects FO who has a 1-1 pitch coming up here for Burles. Here it comes. Burles. Oh, he hit the ball hard off the screen above the tarp down the right field line. One and two. And yet another time where I’m grateful that they put screens up in baseball. That was blistered. Two to one Arizona. The Cardinals have come up with two hits after two outs. Herrera leads away from second. The pitch for Berles. Tried to check his swing, but went too far, striking out, missing a heartbreaking ball in the dirt, but the Cardinal scored a run. We go to the second. The Diamondbacks lead two to one. Cardinals fans, this is your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. Gabrielle Marino takes strike one on the first pitch by Sunny Gray in the second inning. The Diamondbacks hold a two to one lead. Two runs on three hits in the top of the first. The two-run single by Aueno Suarez. Here’s a ball that’s fouled off. Two strikes on Moreno. Moreno is one for eight in the series with a home run he hit in the ninth inning on Friday night. Cardinals didn’t get them both back, but that’s a lift for Sunny Gray to get that two out hit. The pitch by Gray swung on and bounced foul over to the Arizona dugout. Moreno is hitting 263. Has 35 hits, six doubles, four home runs, and 15 RBI. He’s four for his last 16 and three of the hits have gone for home runs with five driven in the two strike pitch. Chop toward third. Tough hop. Aronado gets it. Throws him out by about 10 ft. A spectacular grab. An accurate throw. Moreno is out number one in the second. We had to get it on the short hop and he was running towards the third base dugout. And uh on that play, Nolan sometimes will take a few extra steps, but he got rid of that one as quickly as possible. Wanted to make sure that uh there was not going to be a close play at the bag. And it wasn’t. Out by a wide margin. Moreno grounds out. That brings in Alec Thomas. Ground ball past Aronado deep at short. Win throws and out at first. Somehow Burlesson kept his foot on the bag. Dave McKay is telling the dugout to check it out. The call is out at first base. Jonathan Parr the umpire making the call and we play on. That was some throw by win and an even better stretch by Burles. And to the naked eye, I thought he was safe. I mean, I was I was amazed that the that that quickly the play turned around, but it was a good step that the throw beat him. The question was, did Berles keep the foot on the bag? And he did. Really athletic play by Alec. Here’s Perdomo showing Bunt pulling the bat back, taking a curveball high for a ball in a game brought to you by Budweiser, official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball. Batting number nine in the order. How about having this guy batting ninth in your batting order? Allstar from 23, hitting .3096th in the league in batting. Yeah, I’d say that’s pretty nice to have. Batting .309, 55 hits, 13 doubles, six home runs, and 37 RBI’s. He has seven hits in his last 18 at bats. Heraldo Peromo pitch to him. Ground ball right back to Sunny. He has it. Nolan Arnado steps in for the Cardinals leading off the bottom of the second inning and he takes a ball a little bit high from Brandon F. Nice to have Sam visiting us with his family in between innings. And uh Sam was watching a game. first time he ever saw a game was the Cardinals playing and two people in the lineup that day were Willie Mays for the Giants and Stan Musel for the Cardinals and he’s been a fan ever since. How about that? That was 1959. July 4th, 1959, his first game and he’s here at the park today. Nolan Arnado with a one ball, one strike pitch coming his way from FO. Here’s a little tapper off the end of the bad foul over to the on deck area and that’s where Jordan Walker is standing by. Aronado in the series one for six. A triple is a walk. A run scored. Four RBI’s. The triple drove in three in the win on Friday. Aronado throws his bat at the ball, hits a fly ball toward Thomas in center. He puts it away. One out. Okay, come in. I thought you were staying for the whole game. I I was planning on it, but you know, Jim could do it. Well, here’s Walker. Walker takes a slider for a strike. Jordan is two out of four in the series. A double. Three runs batted in. He drove in what proved to be the winning run yesterday. And the ball settles low and in. One and one. The Cardinals rallied for a run with two outs on a double by Donovan and a base hit from Herrera in the first inning. Carrera extended his unbase safely streak to 16 games and there’s a rocket shot through the hole at short and to left. That had to be 107 plus off the bat. Well, we’ll tell you in a minute, but in a minute. That’s how long it takes Arimedes to come up with that calculation. Should get it faster than that. But one thing I do know is uh that’s another good at bat for Jordan Walker. He’s got his average up over 200 and he is absolutely going in the right direction. I’m tell he’s where he was earlier coming out of spring training directly to the ball. Absolutely. He has been the last three at bats about 111.3. Was that a minute? I was on the low end. Here’s a strike that’s called Perro Pahes. If this if this is the uh exit velocity is right, I was under on that. So it’s eligible. came in at 94 and out at 111. Walker takes a lead at first base with one out. Bah chops it towards second and the play is at first. Walker got such a good jump on that high bouncer to Marte that the only play was at first. Bah is out and here’s Victor Scott the second with a tying run at second. Two away. Base running. Base running matters. And Jordan Walker getting a good jump, sliding in hard to second base really kept Marte from getting that lead right. And I mean, if it’s a Sunday stroll in the park, that’s a double play. That’s right. That’s right. Here’s Victor Scott the second. Two out of seven in the series. He takes strike one. Scott has gone one for two facing pot. His hit was a double. One step inside the bag at third for Auhaneo Suarez. And a lead at second for Walker. The infielders are playing Scott the pull. The outfielders too. Bot with the pitch inside that gets away from the catcher Moreno onto third. Walker. The tying run is 90 ft away now. It’s a wild pitch. That wild pitch is the first unccorked this season by Brandon F. Bot likes to pitch inside. He’s hit four batters. There was no chance for Moreno to get leather on that and keep Walker from advancing. Got with the open stance from the stretch. The pitch. Uh foul tip into the catcher’s mid. One and two. Scott tightens the straps on the batting gloves. Adjusting the helmet. Plants the left foot. Now the right. waves the bat over the plate. Bot on one and two, runner at third, two outs. The Arizona right-hander takes his time and deals a swing and a miss on a breaking ball down and in. Two strikeouts, both ending innings. Burlesen in the first, Scott in the second. Ricky has the third. Two to one Arizona. At the crack of a bat, crack open a bud. Budweiser is the official deer sponsor of Major League Baseball. That’s going to get out of play about six rows deep. Jordan Walker giving chase. Strike one. And that’s how the top of the third inning starts. The Diamondbacks have a two to one lead. It’s early though. They scored their two in the first. The Cardinals answered back with a run in the bottom half with Ivon Herrera driving in Brendan Donovan. Both of those guys got on base with two outs. Donovan doubled then Herrera singled. So two to one the score. Each team with three hits and Carol is one tough out at the plate and he takes a pitch high for a ball. He has six triples already this year. Think about that times three as we’re just about nearing the 1/3 point of the season. Carol also leads the National League in extra base hits with 30. Grounds this one foul over towards the Cardinals dugout. And he is now uh behind in the count one and two. He can strike out. 59 59 times he struck out. That is a lot, especially for a leadoff hitter. But the 15 home runs, you know, you take the strikeouts. The wind in the pitch by Sunny Gray as that fast ball on the inside corner. It caught him looking. Make it 60. 60 punch outs and a good way to start the top of the third for Sunny Gray. Martel Marte will bat. He’s a switch hitter. Eight homers in the month of May for Catel Marte. That means none in April. Is that right? Yeah, because he has eight. So 8 plus 0 is eight. You amaze me. Yeah. On the subject of my math, I haven’t come up with the u attendance guess yet. I’m still thinking about it. I probably will for another three or four or five innings. The uh 10 pitch is taken for a strike from Sunny. A letup pitch there. But I will say that it’s going to be in the upper 30s again. And that’s three days in a row of just great crowds here at the ballpark. And it’s exciting to have uh close to full houses again. Ground ball up the middle and there is Mason Win who’s got it. Nice easy throw. Gets the uh second base from Marte. Two quick outs for Sunny Gray here in the third. Mike Claybourne was really sterling. He was brilliant. He was all over that. But he whiffed on two gray bars. You know, I heard one of them. Yeah. I didn’t hear the other whiff, but you know, power hitters whiff every once in a while. B 500. You know, two two good disclaimers. There’s a line drive up the middle. That’s a hit. A broken bat hit for Lordis Guriel Jr. a two-out hit. So, the Diamondback’s not done yet here in the top of the third. And Josh Naylor will bat for a second time. He doubled and scored one of the two runs in the first inning. And as you’ve heard, he has hit Sunny Gray. Well, he’s had the most experience against Sunny Gray. Again, as we’ve told you, only one start against the Diamondbacks for Sunny Gray, and he was in Oakland A then. I mean, that’s several teams ago and several years ago, a decade ago. So it kind of doesn’t really pertain here. Next pitch is a hit into the left center field gap. Moving over is Nbar and he’s got it. Ball tailed to him as he was covering that left center field gap. Taylor flies out in the first pitch he sees and we go to the bottom of the third inning. The Cardinal take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something these people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. Lars Newar takes a pitch low. Ball one. Bottom of the third inning. Newar fly out to center his first time. And it well it feels like a good time for some Cardinal runs, doesn’t it? Trailing two to one. The uh curve ball is a strike. Cuts the heart of the plate. One and one. Bot does throw hard. 94. Believe he’s touched 95 and he does. Curve ball is a hard curve ball. Yes, it is. Next delivery is a fast ball that’s high and away. Two and one on Newar. Newar win and Donovan to bat for St. Louis. Cardinals come in to play third in the National League in batting average. Not that that’s the only stat that matters offensively. Swing and a miss at a change up evens the count at two and two. Power production matters. Getting on base matters, but the Cardinals have been really hitting and hitting with runners in scoring position well this year. Two delivery comes up and it’s grounded to the right side. A two hopper handled by Marte and his throw is on the money to Naylor for route number one and that brings in Mason Win. 60 Cent Sippers are on at on the run the day after the Cardinals score six runs. Swing by on the run to grab your favorite drinks for just 60 cents all season long. We’ve got your bases covered. It’s on and on the run. You get that drink today by the way. Oh yeah. 65 win yesterday for the Cardinal. Overhead wind up and the pitch to win is outside ball one. Quinn had a uh what an eight pitch at bat. Last time it ended up in a strikeout hitting 260 coming into play today. The next delivery to him is taken low. Way off the bag at first is Naylor. I mean way off the bag. Like he’s the second baseman playing infield in position. The two delivery is swung on and missed. He’s so far away from the bag that a ground ball that is hit to his right. He better not take a half step and then have to try to get back to the bag. I don’t think he’ll get a natural reaction of course if it sit very close to him. Quinn could beat that out. It’s a race then between Naylor and the pitcher. Two-1 delivery is swung on and missed. A breaking ball. When tried to kill those last two. Yes, he did. Their times to slug and their times to hit. Now that it’s two and two, time to hit. The wind and the pitch by FO is taken low. Three and two. Another high pitch count to Mason win. Pitch number 48 coming up for FO as he works with one out here in the third inning. Sunny Gray has gone three, giving up two runs. Outfield is straight up for win. And the next delivery to him is hit high in the air to left field. Can he get it? Back to the wall into the bullpen. Big fly. Mason win. His sixth of the year. We’re tied at two. Watch what he tried to do with the first two swinging strikes. The third time was a charm. Well, as I said, there are times to slug and there times to hit. I thought it was hit a clock and he said, “No, it’s slug o’lock. I don’t care that I’ve got two strikes. I’m gonna hit this one into the bullpen.” Well, you know, the other thing that Brandt Brown says a lot is home runs are thrown. They’re not hit. And he says that to hitters. There’s a strike. And the point being that pitchers make mistakes. And and those are pitches we should hammer. And when they hang one, you better hit it. And Win just did. The one delivery to Donovan is hit into right center field. That’s a long run for everybody. And the sliding catch in right center by Carol. I didn’t think he’d be able to close that ground the last 10 ft or so, but he was able to do so and make the play and take a double or more away from Donovan. So there’s two outs before Herrera bats. Hazelwood. Herrera takes a sweeper low. Ball one. Ivonne had a base hit and a stolen base in the first inning and an RBI and extended his game on base streak to 17. There’s a pitch a little bit low. Didn’t miss by much. 2 and 0. So hitters count here for the uh young Cardinal catcher who has done nothing but hit this year. His average back up over 400 403. The 20 delivery to him is a called strike. His last home run was on the 12th at Philadelphia right center field. I mean we got used to seeing him just throwing home runs out of the park. He had three in one game here at home. Then the next game in Boston, he had won. Two-1 pitches, swung on and missed. You know, I’m really happy that he was able to have that experience of getting those that home run barrage, but it hasn’t stopped him from hitting. Some guys will get home run happy and then they will lose their stroke, but not Ivon. Two- two pitch coming up and he pops this one foul down the right field line. That’s going to be a souvenir. A very nice crowd here at Bush Stadium. It’s an overcast day. Kind of a hazy day as we’ve told you. And yet nice crowd. You realize this is the 21st game for Herrera and he has 24 runs batted in. How about that? Two two delivery to him is a check swing. He didn’t go and the pitch is just barely high at 95. So a good eye for Herrera. He earns a full count and he’s he has an on base percentage, Ricky, of uh over 440. How about that? 441. Keep that up. The 3-2 delivery is grounded foul. So, are we saying that we’re going to start the 400 watch already for Ivon Pereira on the uh 25th of May? Keep count of the runs batted in. Yeah, I like that too. Think about the years that that would happen often with George Brett and Tony Gwyn. about hitting 400 others 1380 with George Brett and what did he end up 390 I believe so but he said he tried to hit 400 and dropped down to like 370 and he stopped trying and he got back to 390 the 3-2 delivery to Herrera is swung on and missed. So Herrera strikes out and that’s the third inning in a row where FO has struck out the final out of an inning but the Cardinals have tied it. Mason win big fly. We go to the fourth tied at two. When seconds making a play, short’s got to cover. A winning insurance strategy doesn’t rely on one. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. was a great game. Sunny Gray back to work. His first pitch is a breaking pitch taken high for a ball by Aoheno Suarez who’s the third baseman for the Diamondbacks and again having a good start to his season. 40 RBI’s including two back in the first inning. And the next delivery is grounded up the middle. That’s another Suarez hit. He’s two for two today. And that is hit number five for the Dbacks. The Cardinals have four of them, including the Mason Win home run that just came in the bottom of the third to tie it. Sunday, June 8th, 10,000 fans 15 and younger will take home a Rawlings kids glove. Looking at it now, very sharp. And we thank Rawlings for that. Additionally, kids 15 and younger can run the bases following the game thanks to Hi-Chew. Details at cardinals.com/promotions. Got the uh birds on the bat in the pocket of the glove. STL stitching on the side. That’s the kids glove on the 8th of June. Ball one to Pave Smith. That’s the victory blue and red color glove. It is. And that’s the Dodgers series, too. June 6th through the 8th. Friday, Saturday, Sunday series against LA. Swinging a foul back by Smith. That home stand, by the way, is the Royals for three. That’s going to be great. Royals are a fun team. We just saw them not long ago. And that’s going to be the uh Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, June 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Good tickets available still for that series. They’re running out on the Dodgers games, but you still have time to get seats there. June 6th through the 8th. Breaking pitch is hit into left field for a hit. A little looping ball into the left field area, but not able to advance the third is Aeneo Suarez. So, a single for Smith. Back-to-back hits to start the fourth inning. And then the Blue Jays will close out that home stand the 9th through the 11th Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. And good tickets available for that as well. And again, the uh tickets are starting to uh move much faster here at Bush Stadium, and we’re excited about that. Cardinals playing an exciting brand of baseball. Sunny’s in a pickle though here in the fourth inning. Two on, nobody out. And Gabrielle Moreno at the plate. And it’s going to be ball one because there’s a pitch clock violation on Sunny Gray. Don’t see too many of those anymore. So the clock wound down and got to zero. Moreno at the plate takes a strike. So he evens it count at one and one. I guess sometimes you’re not ready to throw the pitch. You’re better off doing that and getting the ball than throwing the ball. uh down the middle of the plate. Couldn’t agree more. Moreno grounded out the third his last time. We take that here as he takes a pitch outside. Sweeper two and one. Cardinals hoping for a double play with their middle infielders win and Donovan. Aronado and Berles are at the corners and we have Newar Victor Scott the second and Walker in the outfield from left to right. Bob Reley was telling me they put Moreno in the cage with that pass pitch machine and he has been hitting the ball, pulling him with authority ever since. Two-1 pitch, a called strike. He has been crushing home runs like he did Friday night. He hit that one about 399 inside the foul pole in left field. Train your eyes for speed and then it doesn’t seem that fast to you. And I think that’s what you’re talking about. Two- two pitch coming up to Moreno and that is a called strike three. He painted him. He painted him. Wasn’t the velocity so much as it was the location. A sinking fast ball coming back over the outside corner. And now a double play will end the inning for Sunny. Alec Thomas, center fielder, grounded out to short. His first time up. And he runs well too. So not an easy guy to double up. The pitch to him is grounded to the right side. Burley has it. The second for one and no throw at first as Mason Win thought better of it with Sunny Gray trying to cover the bag. A lot of bad things could happen there. Easy to throw that away or Sunny not be able to see the ball well covering the bag. And I don’t think they could have gotten him anyway. I don’t either. But you at least got an out and Burles got the job done again. Cardinal first baseman Berles Contrarus have been way better than I thought they’d be. And now not that I would be have said I’d be critical of them, but well when a goal glover like Goldstein moves on, you’re wondering I mean who could save that many errors, poor throws in the dirt, one thing and another. These guys have been great here. Inning not over. Peromo at the plate and he takes strike one. And good pitch by Sunny. 93. It looked faster than that to me. It had a lot of zip to it. Predomo has 37 RBI’s, 13 doubles, hitting over 300. Runners at the corner. Two out. 22 is our score. And the curveball is inside. One and one. Look at the spray chart on the board of Heraldo Purdomo. One of the new things that if you come to the ballpark, and you will, and we’ll be happy to see you here, you will see the spray chart up on the scoreboard, which will tell you where he’s likely to hit it. Set at the belt and the pitch is low. So, it might be a fun thing to learn when you come to the ballpark. You look at the scoreboard and then you look how the Cardinals are defending a particular batter. And you see why Donovan’s playing exactly where he’s playing and why Jordan Walker’s playing where he is playing because the spray chart says if he pulls it, he hits it right about where those two are. The 2-1 delivery. Here it comes. It’s a swing and a miss. He threw that one by him. Two and two. Lenny Gray one pitch away from getting out of the uh top of the fourth inning unscathed. Big strike out of Moreno. Then he got Thomas to hit a ground ball to the right side. Now he’s working against Purdomo who grounded back to Sunny his first time. Working with Pahes. Long pause and a throw to first base. And back safely is Thomas. I don’t think Sunny wanted to throw the pitch he first agreed to throw. They’re testing out the pitch comp. It is a pitcher’s prerogative to change his mind. Two balls, two strikes, two outs, two on. Next delivery is fouled off to the left. So we’ll do it again. Two are wild here. It’s 2-2 as a score. Each team has left two on base and again the count. Two balls and two strikes with two outs. Not much wind right now in the ballpark. The flag in left center field is not moving much. Here comes the two- two pitch. It’s grounded to the right side. Burley has it and he’s going to take it himself. Good work, Sunny Bray. He gets out of the inning. We go to the bottom of the fourth. Arizona two, Cardinals two. take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager sent the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. He’s trying to get his eighth victory of the year against three losses. Sunny Gray is trying to win his sixth today. He’s not that far behind him. One and0 the count and the next delivery to Aronado is hit high in the air to left field and that’s going to stay in the ballpark as making that play about halfway onto the warning track. Knew that Aronado didn’t quite get that. That was not his best p. But he flies out to left it and enough to scare the pitcher though. That’s happened several times to Aronado recently where the ball jumps off the bat and then dies when it gets out there by the warning track. He’s not far off though. No, he’s not. Nor is this guy Jordan Walker who’s had a good week. Average up to 208 and he waves at a breaking ball. Strike one. Now, you say 208 and maybe you’re thinking, well, don’t throw a party for that. But he was uh he was dropping like a rock about three or four weeks ago. And he’s got a surge going, swinging a foul back. And I think surge in the average is one thing, but I think the surge in the confidence is more important. They lost two out of three to open this home stand to the team with the best record in baseball at the time, Detroit. Detroit has gone on to lose three in a row, though. One-two pitch to Jordan Walker is outside two and two. He didn’t chase that either. Detroit is playing Cleveland head-to-head, the top two teams in the American League since the wind, the pitch, the 2-2 is outside three and two. So Jordan has worked the full count here. Score of interest, the Reds have a 73 lead over the Cubs. That game is in the bottom of the fifth inning. And Milwaukee has a 3 to1 lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Central Division. 3-2 pitch. Here it comes. That ball is hit sharply to center field. Well struck. Back to the wall. Making the play is the center fielder Thomas. And Jordan’s got his hands wide thinking, “How in the world did that ball not get out of here?” I think he thought he hit that one on the screws. So, two loud outs in the inning. Another hard hit ball by Perles. We go to the moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts went into right down the line. Raybar does that. See, Claves, that’s how it’s done. Here’s a strike into Josh Naylor. We’re in the wrote it down. H that’s in his notebook. Here’s the one strike pitch. Naylor hits that one down the left field line and that goes into the stands. Just got over the screen. Sunny Gray only 66 pitches through five innings. So he’s he’s probably got another couple innings left in him. And the Cardinals bullpen might be a little short at the back end because we saw a lot of Helsley lately and a lot of Kyle Ley. Both those two guys may or may not be available today, but I would guess not. Naylor a double and a run scored in the first inning. Lined out for left center to Newark ending the third. He’s leading off the sixth and takes a sweeper in the dirt. Pedro Pahes will throw a new ball to the mound. And the home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez steps out, does a little landscaping with his right foot for that pitch head in front of the plate. One and two on Josh Naylor. Allstar will with the Cleveland Guardians. He can pack a wall up. The pitch a swing and a miss. The sweeper strikes him out. Four strikeouts for Sunny Gray. One down for Auano Suarez. Suarez has two singles. A two-run single. A little flare right off the end of the bat to right field plating Marte and Naylor in the first inning. Then a base hit and he was left on third base in the fourth. Big deep breath by Sunny Gray. The side step, the kick, and the pitch. Strike one with the fast ball in there. Yesterday, Matthew Liberator, after giving up a home run to Randall Gridic, allowed a two-out double to Marte in the fifth inning. Then a stolen base. Marte was left at third in the fifth. Buriel a single and a steal. And there’s a ball popped up. Right side foul out of play. No play for Berles. Guriela single. A steal moved up on a ground out in the sixth inning yesterday. He was left on third base. Marte was left at second in the third inning. I don’t think uh the traffic seems to bother the Cardinal lefty Matthew Liberator much at all. He kept his team in the game and the Cardinals were able to come back to win. There’s a pitch taken just high for a ball. Both starters today know how to keep their team into a game by not walking batters. Both Sunny Gray and Spot, who’s up among the uh the leaders in baseball for starting pitchers for the low walk rate. Neither has walked a batter yet. Here’s a pitch just low for a ball. Varez let the sweeper go by. And it’s two balls, two strikes. 14 home runs, 40 RBI’s forio Suarez. They claimed to pull infield and outfield. The pitch by Sunny Gray. A swing and a foul off to the right. Out to dust off home plate. Manny Gonzalez. He had a bit of a funny follow through with that. Almost fell down. Don’t know that he landed exactly exactly the way he expected to. And he kind of worked at the landing spot a little bit with his cleats. Now on two and two with one away. Vuarez the batter. Paving Smith on deck. The pitch is lined down the left field line. That’s a fair ball going to the corner. And Suarez will be in scoring position with one out for Smith. Three for three for Suarez against Gray. And the double is his 10th of the year. When Suarez first came up, he could absolutely rake and then he couldn’t hit anything. I mean, he went from really good to really not. And now he’s back again. A three hit day for him and it’s looking easy for him right now. Here’s Pav Smith. Smith lined a single to left field in the fourth inning. The seventh hit off Sunonny Gray. There’s a swing and a hit to right field. That’s going to bring in the go-ahead run. Walker’s throw goes towards second and it’s 3-2 Arizona as Smith is two out of three. Suarez scores after the one out double. And here is Gabrielle Moreno. Moreno has grounded out and struck out. Suarez had a season, John, just to finish that thought with Cincinnati in 2021 where he hit 198 for a full season playing every day. Here’s a sweeper outside. Ball one. Now, he did hit 31 home runs that year, so the the power didn’t really leave him, but he did have yet another year where he hit just 202 the season prior. The one pitch infield at double play depth and there’s a base hit into right field. Walker comes up with it holding on at second. Pave Smith. Three hits in a row for the Diamondbacks. They’re setting themselves up for a big inning. They’ve already taken the lead. That might get the bullpen phone ringing and somebody to back up Sunny Gray here in the sixth inning with the three straight hit. It’s a milling about right now. Somebody grabbing a glove and that looks like John King. A mound visit by Pedro Pahes. This started with a one-out double by Suarez. Then Pav Smith drove him in with a hit to right. Moreno grounded the ball through the infield to right. First and second for Alec Thomas. Thomas is 0 for two today. He’s 0 for four in the series with a couple of strikeouts. Thomas has one hit in his last 15 at bats. Gray is ready. Now the pitch, a strike right down the middle. Thomas from Chicago, Illinois. Father was a strength and conditioning coach for the Chicago White Sock. rocking the bat back and forth. Alec Thomas the pitch in the dirt. Ball rolls out in front of the plate. Pahes recovers and Smith goes back to second. Mareno to first base. That looked like a tough block to me for Pahes cuz that had a lot of spin to it and it hit a good bit in front of him. So he had to be very wary of where that spin might take that baseball. He was able to smother it. Sunny Graves on the hot seat. the 1-1 pitch, a swing and a foul. Fouled it and then hit it again, driving it back to the screen. The Cardinals will get into Baltimore later on tonight and play a late afternoon game against the Orioles. We’re on the air at 110 tomorrow, 155. Ricky will have the lineups. The pitch on the way and that is taken just outside. I wouldn’t take that location again if I were Thomas. Very close. Two and two the count. The runners lead at first and second. Sunny Gray is ready and he brings it in. A swing and a miss. A pitch up. Strikes out Thomas. Two strikeouts in the inning. Five in the game for Sunny. But in between strikeouts, a double for Suarez, RBI hit for Smith, and a base hit for Moreno. Sometimes pitching is just limiting the damage. Minimize your losses. You’re going to have some innings where you give up runs. Just don’t don’t let the game get away. And it hasn’t yet for Sunny Gray, but this is a important batter for him. Gray goes after the ninth place hitter for Domo. And he’s a good one. The pitch outside, ball one. 3-2 Arizona. Arizona out hitting the Cardinals today. 94. And John King stopped throwing. There’s a right-hander warming up in the pen now. The pitch low. Two balls and no strikes. King is still standing there. He’s uh he’s ready just in case. But that’s Fonson. Fonson has joined him. Is grounded out to Sunny and grounded out to Berles at first. The two pitch, a sweeper buckled the knees and a strike called. Looking ahead to the Cardinals half of the sixth, it’s Win Donovan and Herrera coming up. A two-1 pitch with two on. Swing and a miss. Verdomo looked to be guessing a little bit there. Ricky indecisive on his swing. Started and then couldn’t stop. Two and two and a batters timeout taken by the switchhitting shortstop. Heraldo Perdomo 25 years old out of the Dominican Republic. He’s three for 10 in the series with a walk and a run scored. The runners lead at first and second. the two- two pitch. A slowly hit ground ball to second. Donovan gobbles it up and throws him out. A double and two singles and the Diamondbacks have been able to creep ahead of the Cardinals. We go to the bottom. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. Always does the right thing. always has good at bats. You just kind of just assume he’s going to keep doing that. He’s not flashy, per se. He’s just good. He’s just a good player. Here’s the other side of Donovan. He doesn’t waste any time when he’s at the ballpark. No, he comes to work. Then when he’s done, then he’s on his own at that point. So there was no no things going on in the field today. Stubby Clap had the machine the ground ball machine in the hallway. I almost walked into it. It’s Donovan taking ground balls in the hallway near the clubhouse. Here’s Herrera. A swing and a highf fly ball that goes down the right field line in medium right. Not a great throw in right, but Donovan took a perfect route to second base, got there quickly and is now in scoring position. He’s the go-ahead run for Alec Burles. We’re tied at three. The Cardinals have been out hit so far, nine to five. The walk has turned into a run. Fought with the pitch. Berles takes a strike. Berles has struck out and grounded out sharply to the second baseman, Marte. Early on the home stand is six out of 15. Two doubles and a couple of walks. Eurles takes a ball in the dirt. One ball, one strike. But Donovan moving back to second base. I think that was great coaching by uh Pop Warner at third and Stubby Clap at first base. Both of them thinking on the same wavelength about what they would do on a ball hit down the right field line in foul territory to uh give the Cardinals a chance to score. And another guy ready to score the 1-1. Berles takes outside ball too. Carol had such a good jump on the ball, moving over into foul territory, grabbing it, making the throw and hitting the cut off man Naylor. Diamondbacks have left six on base and the Cardinals just three. King the 1-1 pitch and that’s a called strike on the inside corner that was caught kind of uh awkwardly by the catcher Hi was really good at framing pitches but I think that ball just ran on him a little bit. In fact, he’s asking for time. I think that hit him in a bad spot. I mean, he caught it. He says to the bench he’s okay. Gives him the thumbs up, but the thumb might hurt. Maybe that’s what he’s saying. But we’re ready to go. One-two pitch coming up to Guriel and it’s on its way and it’s grounded foul pass the third base coach. Cardinals kos righter Kevin Ginkle delivers strike one to Jordan Walker who has singled and flyed out in this game and the fly out was very deep to center field. There’s a pitch outside the slider and he laid off it. Genel has a good slider. He’s going to use it a lot. And they are playing at Jordan to really pull in the outfield. They give him the right center field gap and he’s got a 1-1 count and the next pitch to him is taken low. Two and one. Three RBI’s yesterday for Walker. His fly out to center. I think he thought he got enough of it to get it out of the ballpark, but Thomas was able to make the play on the track. Count in his favor. Two and one. And he taps that one to the left side. They better hurry to get Walker. And they’re not even going to throw it. The shorts stop for Domo just hangs on to the baseball. Second hit of the game for Walker. And the Cardinals got a runner aboard in another two-hit game for Walker, who is going in the right direction. The seventh inning stretch, by the way, was presented by Spectrum. Lightning fast speeds and major league reliability, so you can stay connected. Wind is picking up here at the ballpark. And it is Pedro Pahes over his last nine at the plate. And he shows bunt and pops that bunt foul. That was in his kitchen. That may have hurt him a little bit, too. He jammed his hand, I know, at at the plate in the top half of this inning. And I think that one may have caught him, too, as he tried to get the bunt. Oh, it actually hit off his helmet. He bunted it off his own head. Just off the bill of his cap. No wonder it popped up in the air. One strike pitch is low for a ball. Not showing bunt there. So, Walker, an infield hit. And Pahes is grounded out and flyed out to right. All for the first and third here. One-1 count and the pitch is a swing and a miss on deck. Victor Scott the second. Three runs on nine hits for Arizona. Victor Scott at the plate and he takes a slider outside from Jaylen Beaks a left-hander and it’s the left-handed lane for the Cardinals beginning with Scott then it’ll be Nar Mason win then Donovan. So Beaks who pitched a scoreless inning yesterday is back out there today with a potential go-ahead run at second base and he misses outside to Victor Scott. Here’s a trivia question for you. In all of baseball, who has the highest line drive percentage coming into play today? You you could guess a whole lot of people, but I would guess you would not guess Victor Scott II who fouls that one off to the left, but he has a 35.2% line drive rate, number one in all of baseball. And that’s coming off rookie year last year where he was popping up the ball a lot and some weak ground ball contact. But boy did he prepare himself to play and make the roster in 2025. And he’s got opportunity here. a 2-1 count inside move and it actually might have worked if he threw it. You know, you do the inside move is just kind of to let the runner at second know that you’re thinking about him, but the shorts stop was coming in behind Jordan Walker and that might have been worth throwing it there just to see. But here comes the 2-1 and that’s hit sharply to the right side. It’s off the glove. A came into right field. Rounding third and scoring is Jordan Walker and the Cardinals take the lead 3-2 here in the seventh inning. That ball was hit sharply by Victor Scott. [Music] 94 mph fast ball and it was a one hopper on the backhand and it just ate up the second baseman Marte. We’ll see how they score it and it looks like that’s going to be a hit for Victor Scott and an RBI swinging a foul back and I’m all for that. I think that’s the right call. I do too. That one was hit so hard. It’s either do or die from Marte and he couldn’t put the squeeze on it. So Scott’s now at first base now. Maybe some more funk. He’s got a nice lead and he draws a throw by a beaks. Those left-handers are tricky. Suit up this season at mlbshop.com. And there he goes. The pitch is low and no throw. Victor Scott has just stolen his 15th base of the year. A great jump and great speed on top of that. And Nar did the right thing taking that pitch. Newar has an RBI opportunity with a base hit. You bet. Moreno’s got a good arm, too, but he didn’t even have a chance at that. Didn’t have a good grip on the ball. He did not. The pitch to Newar’s fouled back. A good cut at 94. One and two the count. So, John King pitched a scoreless seventh inning. And it looks like we’ll see Jojo Romero. More lefties to face for this Arizona team. So, you need to have your lefties in play. And it’ll be Jojo it looks like for the eighth inning. But the Cardinals not done yet. The one-two pitch to Newar is tap fouled. They’ll do it again. So that run charged to Kevin Ginkle who gave up a leadoff hit to Jordan Walker. An infield hit, but they count. 43 Cardinals. We’re in the seventh inning. The Redbirds are trying for a sweep today, but six more big outs to get. The pitch to Newar is outside. 95 from Beaks. Do you think uh John King was out there long enough and effective enough to uh get a win if the Cardinals go on and win this today? Thought you might say something about that. I’d say he was pretty effective. Yes. Don’t know. Don’t know what MLB will think about it. Not sure about that, huh? Two two pitch is swung on and missed. Duke waves at a slider and that is out number two and it brings in Mason Win. Win has struck out, homered, walked and he scored also that inning in the sixth inning. He scored two of the Cardinal runs and they have four of them. And wanting more with Victor Scott, the runner at second base. A single will absolutely score him. And the pitch to Mason win is low. Ball one. Really nice crowd here again today. The weather is uh probably driven a few away because uh we thought we’d have a bunch of it, but right now it’s been good. So far so good as we play in the seventh inning. The pitch to Mason is low and in. Didn’t miss by much. Two and0. No action in the bullpen for Arizona. Jojo as I mentioned throwing for the Cardinal. So this is his inning. Two pitch is a called strike. Kind of tough to be the only left-hander in a bullpit. No one to talk to out there or what? No one that understands you. You can talk to whoever you want. That doesn’t stop us lefties. Nice to be understood though every once in a while. Two-1 pitch to the Cardinal shortstop is grounded to the left side. That’s handled by Purdomo and he throws out his counterpart. The inning comes to a close, but the Cardinals take the lead. The RBI hit for Victor Scott the second. We go to the eighth. John will have the play. Your day in baseball starts with MLB Central. Let’s get it started. Lead off your morning with in-depth breakdowns, perfect balance, interviews with the players. Romero is pitching for the second time in the series. Friday, a scoreless seventh inning, giving up a hit with a base on ball. the pitch and there’s a ball that’s looped into center. Caught over the shoulder by Mason Win. I think that broke Naylor’s bat. Just a looper off the end of the bat and win with a good jump retires Naylor. One out. Here’s a ball that’s hit the center field. Waiting for it. Scott, he’s there. He has it. Two outs. Flores is out for the first time today. And that will send up Smith. Smith is two out of three with an RBI single back in the sixth inning. In fact, it was a double for Tawa and a walk to Herrera. Moreno then pench hit in the ninth inning and hit a two-run homer. The Cardinals managed to hang on for a 4-3 victory. But Jojo got a fly ball out from Corbin Carroll to leave runners at first and second in his seventh inning of work on Friday. Faven Smith is being lifted for Randall Gretch with a left-hander on the mound. Gretch has a home run in the series. He takes a ball outside. Rough day for the Cincinnati Reds bullpen as they gave up three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to the Cubs who now have an 118 lead. Here’s a pitch. A little bit low for a ball. I thought there was too much time left in that game. There was Griick holding the bat right down on the knob. Jojo Romero pitching with two outs in a one-run lead. And there’s a slider for a strike call. Gretick batting for the DH Smith. The 2-1 pitch in the dirt. Ball three. Three and one. Richik has put together a pretty good career. His two homers, nine RBI’s this year. 205 home runs in his career with 611 runs batted in. A 252 hitter. The pitch to Gretchic. Ball four low. And the tying run is on for Gabrielle Moreno. Eton is ready in the Cardinal bullpen and a mound visit by Fabro Pahes. Jojo had a two out walk in his outing on Friday. And we’re going to have a pinch runner for Grid. Believe that’s going to be Jordan Waller, their young infielder who’s running for Gritic. And here’s Gabrielle Moreno, who will face Jojo Romero. Lawler, the runner, over at first base. Two outs. We’ve had a popup, a fly out, and a walk. The pitch, a strike. That was a first pitch, fast ball at 93, just above the knees. A hit, a strike out, and a ground out today for Moreno. A pitch to him. Up and away. One ball, one strike. Jojo’s been a lot tougher on lefties than he has righty, which you would guess, but even more so this year than usual, but there is a left-hander do up next, and I think that’s why he’s still in there for Moreno. The pitch on the way. Moreno takes a slider for a strike that came through the back door and it’s one and two on the Arizona catcher. Gretchic walk. Lawler replaced Gretchik as a pinch runner. Burles is holding at first base. The advantage Jojo at one and two. The pitch to Moreno. Jammed him and a ground ball right to first. Nice pick. Stepping on the bag. Burles retires. Moreno. We go to the bottom of the eighth. The Cardinals are leading Arizona 4-3. And the winning team. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. The Diamondbacks have gone to the bullpen and they bring on Juan Mario. Mario has worked in this series. The right-hander pitches, a swing and a ground ball headed up the middle. Diving play. The second baseman flips to the shortstop, but Perommo can’t make the throw. And that’s a hit for Donovan by quite a backhand effort by the second baseman, Marte. A back flip to Perdomo. Had the momentum going toward first, but Peromo couldn’t get a grip on the ball. I think even if he caught it, he’s not going to throw out Donovan, who was hustling down the line. But that’s another three hit game for Brendan Donovan, who now has 65 hits on the season. One for two for Ivon Herrera. A single strike out, a sacrifice fly. The pitch, Herrera checks his swing, takes a ball low from Juan [Music] Mario. Donovan came in one for five in this series. Three out of four today. He takes a lead at first. Four have been stranded by the birds on the bat. Mario with the pitch. That’s in there at the knees. One and one. Berles 0 for three. A strike out, a ground out, a fly out. He’s two out of 10 in the series. Two runs scored. And the pitch all two. Two and one as Burles. The more he’s swinging the bat, the more he gets in there. Ricky. Yeah. Uh, it’s the more like it from what we’ve seen from Berles in the past. No doubt. A little over anxious his last at bat though on a three-0 count. I thought the 2-1 Berles sends it in the air. Foul out of play off to our left. But he’s a guy that I mean anytime he’s in the lineup, I’m happy about it. I don’t care if he’s dhing, playing in the outfield, playing first base. I I just think he can uh he can do some damage. Wilson Coneris, by the way, there was an unclear at the start of the day whether he’d be available for this game, but the hope is that he’ll be ready to play tomorrow. On two and two with one out, a runner at first base, the pitch and this is popped into center field and backing up a step, Thomas. He waits, makes the grab. Two outs, 0 for four for Berles and Nolan Aronado. Aronado with one hit in nine at bats in the series. He has done something significant in each of the first two wins. He had a three-run triple in game one. He had a ball in play that drove in a run yesterday, but so far today, zip for three. Here’s the pitch. Outside corner, strike one. That was a 98 99 mph fast ball. Yeah. And it looks like we’re going to have Phil Matton for the ninth inning. Good work by the two lefties, King and Romero. The Cardinals lead by one. A check swing on a slider outside. One ball, one strike for the Cardinal. Third baseman Nolan Aronado. Jojo Romero. One inning with a walk. Thomas today 0 for three. One hit in his last 16 at bats. An open stance for the left-handed batter from Chicago who fouls one off and the count is nothing and two. to a fast ball, curve ball. It’s 02 on Thomas. Bill Mton following Jojo Romero. Mton working from the stretch with nobody on the pitch and that is a late swing and a ground ball that goes down the left field line. Thomas is going for two. Duar’s throw is not in time. getting away from Donovan, but backed up by Berles. A hustling double for Alec Thomas. The tying run is at second, leading off the ninth. Oh, what a bad break that is. He jammed him and he just hit it the other way and kind of that’s how the game started. A couple of runs in the first inning on a couple of flare hits and that was not a good start to the inning here for Phil M. And with the left-handed batter up, Arnado was playing well off the line, right? And the ball found a big opening on the left side. And now Perdomo with a chance to tie the game or take the lead with a long ball. Man with the pitch showing bunt. Here’s a bunt foul off to the left. One strike on Purdomo who’s 0 for three today. Three out of 11 in the series with a walk and a run scored. We know the Cardinals have a lot of finish in them, but so do the Diamondback. Over the last seven games, a 2.84 ERA for Maton. Nine hits, two earned runs, three walks, eight strikeouts, over six and a third. A turnaround, no throw to second base with Alec Thomas the runner there. Thomas runs so well that he was able to hustle into second for his eighth double of the year. The Diamondbacks have the leadoff man on here in the ninth. Showing butt for Domo. Foul tipped it into the catcher mitt. He was showing butt, tried to get the bat back, but it’s a foul tip and he may have been hit on the hand in the process. And Tory Lavell wants a review on this. And coming in from second base, Ron Copa, the crew chief, has walking up the first base line when it was a foul tip into the catcher. Vick call a strike. Was hit by the pitch on the field. There was no call. How about that? No call. So if he was hit, he’ll be a base runner. The other day the Cardinals got caught up with one of those where the call was strike even though Victor Scott was hit on the hand by the pit. He’s trying to sell it. I can’t tell by the replay whether it hit him or not. If the only angle that we have is inconclusive, but at least to my eye. I’m not sure that hit him. How close was it to him? Boy, it doesn’t look like it hit him. Hard to tell though from the camera on the left field line. I thought he was originally calling that it was a foul tip. I thought that’s what it was called as well. And maybe it’s because he heard something. Turn. He was hit by the pitch. Arizona retains it down. So it was a hit by pitch and two on with nobody out. Now Oie is uh wondering about this play. Although you can’t It looked like there was a foul tip. Cole. Well, and then you’re also wondering whether or not he offered at it or not. I think that’s what Oie wants some clarification on. Although if they looked at it, I don’t know that Ali can actually have them look at it again with the idea that you were actually bunting at this pitch or not as the his bat came back almost at the time when the ball passed uh the plate. So very very close to him actually offering at I think that’s what Oie’s talking about, but it does not go the Cardinals way. Well, a rough start for first and second, nobody out. And here is Corbin Carroll. And he’s up there trying to move the runners for Catel Marte and Lordis Guriel Jr. Maton from the first base side of the rubber. The pitch and no signs of Bunning. Ball one high and outside. John King a scoreless seventh. Jojo Romero a scoreless eighth. But Maton is on the hot seat now. with Thomas at second representing the tying run. Erdomo at first base. The pitch a swing and a popup foul that goes out of play. And a reminder that both Brian Hley and Kyle Ley both have been used a lot in the last couple of days. So they’re not available today. And that’s why Ali is going with Mton here in the ninth inning. Non picks out the sign from the stretch, the pitch, and there’s a ballhead foul out of play down the left field line. Mton calls his own game by the way. He does. He informs the catcher of the sign to be more precise. He needs to get some swing and miss here. And this is a guy that can swing and miss. Carol has struck out once today. 60 times this season. The one-two pitch with two on and nobody out. Here it is. Her ball outside. Didn’t break enough. Two and two on Corbin Carroll. That’s a pitch he wanted to get him. Geral deep in the batters box. The runners lead at first and second. The pitch. A swing and a miss. He struck him out. One out. And Carvin Carroll is 0 for 10 in the series with three strikeout. Boy, did he need that strikeout. No time to breathe easy. Here’s Catel Marte. A single and a run scored in the first inning. Ground out to short. Fly ball to the warning track in right center for a long out in the fifth. And another ground out to Mason Win. Win plays up the middle. The pitch. A ball taken a little bit low. Marte a switch hitter. Bats left-handed against the right-handed veteran Bill M. with two on, one out. 4-3 Cardinals. We’re in the ninth inning. The Dbacks are batting. There’s a swing and a long one foul down the right field line. And that is strike one. One. That’s all it is. That’s all it is. But it doesn’t feel like it as he crushed that ball. He was right on top of that. Bill Mton wants a different baseball. Finally gets the attention of the home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez. And the and the batter is getting some attention too if for Manny Gonzalez because I think he may have kind of twisted his ankle a little bit on that swing. He asked for some time, stepped out. Now he’s back ready to go. Catel Marte back in. Twirls the bat. Holds it on the left shoulder. The pitch by M. Strike call on the outside corner. 90 on the fast ball and it’s one and two on Marte. Marte has struck out once in this series. He has a home run, a couple of doubles. He’s four for 12 in the series. The one-two pitch. Marte is jammed and he fouls that one down the right field line. A leadoff double for Alec Thomas. Herdomo was hit by a pitch and Corbin Carroll struck out. has gone one and two with two-time all-star Catel Marte. Marte crowds the plate, the pitch to him and the ball’s popped up. Foul territory moving down the left field line. Aronado makes a backhanded grab. Balls into the stands and throws to Mason W covering third and Aronado is hurt. He hurt his back. That’s two catches he’s made like that this season going into the stands and comes up with a huge play. But he hit hard on his on the left side near his hip area and he’s going to need some attention. Yeah, he’s acting like he’s in some big pain. He’s grabbing the the left hip or just uh to the back of that and he went into the stands. He may have hit the one of the seats there. I don’t know. But the fact that he was uh kind of alert enough to throw the baseball back in towards third base when he was laying in in the screen and I’m just hoping he’s going to be okay. He was uh in some severe pain there lying on the ground. Chris Conroy, the head athletic trainer is kind of working with him right now. Olly Marmal also looking over. Now what does Tory Lavell want? Didn’t have his feet. Lavell is saying that Aronado caught the ball into his into the net and didn’t have his feet on the ground. Of course, he he was leaping to make the catch. But that would only make difference if it actually hit the net before he caught it. Is that what they’re saying? I’m I I think he’s saying that he was out of play when he caught the ball. Oh, he caught that and then went into the net. That’s anity. Or is he saying that he shouldn’t be throwing the ball when he’s in the net? Is that what he’s saying? That may be the case cuz he was actually out of play in a sense. His feet weren’t on the ground when he threw the ball back in. That’s probably what he’s arguing having seen the play over and over again. But Arnonado hit his back on one of the chair arms, but Aronado made an unbelievable catch, then fell into the screen and threw the ball to third base. Listen to the crowd response to Nolan Aronado staying in the game. How about that? Boy, did he take a jarring hit on one of the chair arms. Everybody standing at the ballpark. Well, here’s Ron Kulao. The catch was legal, but after he made the catch, he fell into the net. By rule, each runner advances one base. Runners are second and third. So, that is the rule and that is the call because he was still in the net and he had to be cuz he couldn’t move. He was stuck in the net, which is kind of a crazy rule with nets actually if you uh if you ask me, but it does put two runners in scoring position now with two outs. Thomas is the tying run at third. The go-ahehead runners for Domo. And here is Guriel who has five hits in the series. He got a base hit was left on in the third inning. The Diamondbacks are down to their last out. Runners at second and third. Mod with the fans standing here at Bush Stadium. Pitches. Curveball. Strike one. Thomas doubled. Berdomo was hit by a pitch. After the catch, Aronado went out of play. Threw the ball back to the infield. The runners advance. The curveball goes outside and it’s one ball and one strike. Guriel lined out to first in the seventh inning facing John King. Earlles plays off the line. The 1-1 pitch with two outs in the ninth. A curveball. Strike ball. Guriel gave up on it. That was a snap. Dragon curve ball by Mahon. The Diamondbacks are down to their last strike. The Cardinals are a strike away from sweeping Arizona this weekend. Everybody up at Bush Stadium. Faton from the scratch. The pitch, a swing and a foul out of play off to our right. Another terrific game at Bush Stadium. Second and third for the Dbacks. The one-two pitch to Guriel with two outs in the ninth inning. Metan delivers a swing and a miss. That’s a Red Bird winner. Light it up in downtown St. Louis. The Cardinals have swept the Diamondbacks, winning one ball games, 4-3 Friday, 65 yesterday and 43 today. And what a finish in the ninth inning. A terrific play by Nolan Aronado. It got everybody on their feet. They stayed on their feet for the strikeout of Guriel Jr. to end the game. Good work, Domton. The Cardinals have won 16 of the last 20. And they finish up the home stand going 4-2 against Detroit and Arizona. And the Cardinals have won seven of the last nine series, going seven one- one in those series. And it’s off to Baltimore after beating Arizona today four to three. Ricky and I will talk more about it after this. Here in Missouri, we know the importance of protecting our fields. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or manager said the following. I really don’t know what to say. I’m just uh so happy I gave something. These people cheer. We all did. I mean, it was a great game. Both teams played incredible. It was a great game. That’s Mike Piaza after he hit an eighth inning go-ahad home run in the first New York Mets home game after 911. Hear moments like this and more on the MLB app and MLB.com. this Diamondbacks team can be. But the Cardinals sweeping them and just continue to just uh roll, winning game number 30 today. They’re now 30 and 23 and uh just a lot of lot of heroes in this game, but Jordan Walker swinging the bat better and Nolan Aronado’s play was worth the price of admission. That alone, we’ve seen him do that twice going over on the track, making a play and then falling into the stands. But by falling into the stands, feet off the ground, making a throw to third base, runners were allowed to advance. I’m not a big fan of that. I mean, of that ground. I mean, it’s a rule. I get it. But, but, you know, you’ve got a player that’s kind of stuck in in a uh screen. What’s he supposed to do? I mean, all they did is just threw the ball from uh in a place. And again, he was hurt at the time, too, which, you know, again, that’s the rule the way it is. But, uh, we put the screens up to, uh, protect fans. But, uh, I guess that’s just, um, a rule we’re going to have to deal with. But, regardless, uh, Mton was able to strand those two runners at second and third with a strike out of Guriel. Terrific finish to another great game. Mton, a rough start with a double and a hit by pitch, but he struck out Corbin Carroll. And then Marte was retired on that sensational play by Nolan Aronado. And then Guriel struck out, swinging to end the ball game. and the second save of the year for Phil Mton. So those are three pretty tough guys to get out with the game on the line for Mton. Talking about Carol, a guy has 15 homers, 34 RBI’s and Marte uh who is an outstanding hitter and Guriel who’s got the RBI’s too. So it was not easy what he did, but he got it done. 4-3 the final. John King the winner, Genko the loser, Man the save. A two-hour 32minute game and we’ll have more from Bush Stadium after this. And I think it goes back to what we were talking with Mike Clayborn on Inside the Park before the game, what this Cardinal young team is learning to do. And they scored so many runs sixth inning on. And I think the Cardinals outscored Arizona 11 to7 from the sixth inning on. Had a lot of runs scored late in these games and that’s what made them so exciting. But this young team is learning to take advantage of that and make it a lot more exciting in their clubhouse than in the other one. Yeah, it really is exciting and I think they’re starting to feed off the energy of of the fans here at the ballpark. And you know, we’ve been hearing that repeatedly over the last few days from the Cardinals dugout that, you know, it’s it’s a new thing. Now you get 37,000 people back in the ballpark here, which is what we’ve had during this home stand, hoping for more next time the Cardinals come back into town. It is just an electric place right now. And you know, it’s time to kind of move on in my mind. Just enjoy this team. You know, the uh the excitement level from the young players you mentioned, the fact that they finish well, fact that it’s a real team. There’s a lot of guys that are just, you know, interesting and fun to watch. Whether it’s Victor Scott stealing a base as he did today or if it’s the Cardinals bullpen, the starting staff has been good. I mean, there’s just really a lot to cheer for. The Cardinals won this one four to three. And you were just talking about how hard Victor Scott hits the baseball. Now, it wasn’t a line drive. It was a ball that was smoked on the ground though, that literally ate up Catel Marte that drove him what proved to be the winning run. He’s got a nice flat swing and he’s smart enough not to try to hit home runs. Occasionally he’ll run into one, but his job is to hit the ball hard somewhere and make something happen. And he did just that. Our plays of the game presented by Marriott St. Louis Grand. Book your Grand Slam Cardinals ticket package. Do that right now. We’ll hear those plays when we come back. KO X in the first inning against Sunny Gray today after two outs. It was uh an RBI opportunity for Auano Suarez. Gray gave up a one-out hit to Marte. A double to Naylor with two outs and Suarez may have broken his bat on it. Ricky hit the ball off the end of the bat, flared it to right field and drove in two. Two nothing Arizona. They still count. That was his first hit of three in the game. The Cardinals responded with two outs in the first inning against Brandon F on a double by Donovan and an RBI hit by Ivon Herrera. Herrera stole second, but couldn’t go any farther as Alec Berles struck out to end the first. And then Ricky called a home run of Mason Win in the third inning. W’s sixth home run of the year. And it was interesting how on the first two strikes he was trying to hit the ball to the old courthouse and missed, but then he connected the third time around. Yeah. And interesting, he was able to get the ball out of the ballpark in a day where the ball didn’t seem to be carrying very well. And then it was Arizona taking the lead in the sixth inning on a Suarez double. His third hit of the day and an RBI single by Pave Smith. The Virginia Cavaliier came through there for Arizona. But the Cardinals had an answer of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning as the only walk in the game to that point was a free pass to Mason Win leading off the six. bought then gave up a hit to Brendan Donovan and Ivon Herrera hit a ball just fouled down the right field line and just deep enough to score Mason Win with the tying run. Good base running play by the Cardinals. We’ve seen a lot of that. Then Donovan at second base. They couldn’t move him along anymore from there. And then it was the Cardinals in the seventh inning as they managed to take the lead on a base hit by Jordan Walker, an infield hit. He moved up on a ground up setting up Victor Scott. Well, here comes the 2-1 and that’s hit sharply to the right side. It’s off the glove. A came into right field rounding third and scoring as Jordan Walker and the Cardinals take the lead here in the seventh inning. That ball was hit sharply by Victor Scott. And then Scott stole second base, but they couldn’t move him off second at that point. And that made it a one-run Cardinal lead. In the eighth inning, a walk to the pinch hitter Randall Gritic. Jordan Lawler came in to run for him, but Moreno grounded out to Berles. That set up things in the ninth inning with Phil Mton coming on. This is after some really good work by John King with a scoreless seventh. Jojo Romero a scoreless eighth after Sunny Gray put up a quality start. Three runs, nine hits over six innings, and five strikeouts. But Bill Mton was greeted by an opposite field double. It was a jam shot double. Left-handed batting Alec Thomas hit the ball the other way and he hustled into second base. Then Purdomo was showing bunt pulled the bat back. He was hit by a pitch. First and second, nobody out. And that’s when Mton went to work. Yeah, Mton really came up with some great pitches cuz that inning could have gotten away from him quickly. you know, the little flare the other way, the hit by pitch, both frustrating moments, but he uh absolutely went to work from there. Corbin Carroll struck out for the second time in the game. He went 0 for 10 with three strikeouts in this series. And then Catel Marte come up came up. Marte had a hit and a run scored in the first inning. He had four hits in the series, including two doubles and a homer. And this is what happened with Marte at the plate. Runners at first and second, one out for our play of the game presented by Marriott St. Louis Grandon has gone one and two with two-time all-star Catel Mart. Marte crowds the plate. The pitch to him and the ball’s popped up foul territory moving down the left field line. Aronado makes a backhanded grab, falls into the stands and throws to Mason W covering third. And Aronado is hurt. He hurt his back. That’s two catches he’s made like that this season going into the stands and comes up with a huge play. And how huge? Because he left his feet into the stands. The runners were allowed to advance a base setting up second and third. And Aronado stayed in the game somehow. Even though he jammed his back into one of the metal seat arms there in the front row, he stayed in. So he was in a position where his back hurt and he couldn’t move. He was stuck in the netting and had to throw without his feet on the ground. He couldn’t come back into the field of play. And when you throw from out of bounds area, which he did, that advances both runners. It’s almost like they tagged up and moved to second and third, which is what they did after the challenge. But then it was Lordis Guriel Jr. The curveball was spectacular in that particular at bat from Phil M. and Maton struck him out to end the game, giving the Cardinals three one-run victories and a sweep of Arizona over the weekend and a home stand that saw the Cardinals go four and two against Detroit and Arizona. Almost as if early in the year, the Cardinals not winning on the road, not doing well in close games was just preparatory for them to kind of step up and figure it out because they have. This has been a year of development. We’ve talked about that and the Cardinals just played game number 53 and they’re developing fast. They’re developing into a fun team and a team that’s learning how to win. It was the Cardinals 30th win of the season. They are seven over 500 now winning three in a row and 16 out of the last 20. A 4-3 victory. Four runs, eight hits, no errors, five left. Two for eight with runners in scoring position. For Arizona, three runs, 10 hits, no errors, nine left. Two for 10 with runners in scoring position. The Diamondbacks have lost five in a row and six of their last eight. John King gets the win in relief, one-0. Was he effective enough? I I think he passed passed muster. Yes. Kevin Genko, the loser, 0 and2. And Phil Mton, he was effective enough to pick up his second save in a game played in 2 hours 32 minutes. 36,437 tickets sold. Now it’s off to Baltimore. American League baseball inner league action for the Cardinals. And we appreciate having all the families and friends out here at the ballpark today enjoying a terrific baseball game. Now it’s, as you mentioned, off to Baltimore. A team that has underachieved, but they’ve got some good pieces. Eric Fetty three and three against Charlie Moore who’s 0 and7 and Baltimore is already fired. Hide their manager. Yeah, it’s they’re they’re not pitching well and see if the Cardinals can continue to exploit that with their offense. 110 for the pregame tomorrow. Ricky will go over the lineups at 155 Central and around 205 I’ll give you the first pitch thrown by Charlie Moore against the Cardinals in the opener of a three-game series, a Memorial Day late afternoon game coming your way tomorrow from Camden Yards. Uh we’ll get to that in one minute as we get set for the recap here with the highlights. The pitching matchup to start things today. Right-hander Sunny Gray for the Cards, right-hander Brandon F, uh Diamondbacks. And the Diamondbacks got out early against Sunny Gray. Uh, I mean really early. Second batter of the game, Catel Marte singles up the middle and then with two outs, Josh Naylor doubles into the right field corner and it’s runners at second and third as Auaneo Suarez comes to the plate in the first. He was able to strand some key runners. The pitch, a swing and a fly ball right field. Walker on the run, won’t catch it. Two runs are going to score. A little flare off the end of the bat into right field and Suarez has 40 runs batted in. Two nothing Arizona. So just like that, a lead for the visitors. Pave Smith came up and Sunny Gray was able to end the inning this way. The pitch is swung on and missed. The Cavaliier strikes out. Well, that got him out of the inning. Three hits, two runs in for the Diamondbacks. Bottom of the first inning, the Cards go to work. And Brendan Donovan has been a hit machine with two outs and nobody on. He bats in the first. Here’s the one-two pitch. Donovan rips that to right field. That’s going to get down and that’s going to the wall. Coming up with the ball, Corbin Carroll. His throw in. Not in time. A sliding double for Brendan Donovan with two down. Next batter was Ivon Herrera. Second base. A swing and a line drive hit into center field. Up with the ball quickly. It’s Thomas. Donovan’s trying to score. The throw on through. Not in time. Throw back to first. Herrera makes it in there safely. The Cardinals do come up with a run. Two to1 Arizona. Nice answer there for the Cards. Alec Berles strikes out, leaving Herrera on at second base after he stole second base. He walked to second base against Brandon F by the way, but he’s left there. Second inning for Sunny Gray. Goes one, two, three thanks to two slick fielding plays. One by Nolan Aronado, one by the shortstop Mason Win. And it’s three straight ground outs. 5-3 6-3 and then a comebacker for Heraldo Perdoma. Goes to the bottom of the second inning. The Cards get a one-out base hit from Jordan Walker. Nice to see him start the day off with a base hit, but that’s all they get. He ended up getting to third and he was left there. Top of the third, a two-out base hit from Guriel. Nothing doing there for the Diamondbacks. Bottom third, one out. Mason Win coming up on the day in which the giveaway was the Mason Win City Connect jersey. Outfield is straight up for win and the next delivery to him is hit high in the air to left field. Can he get it back to the wall big fly Mason win his sixth of the year. We’re tied at two 104 off the bat. It went 397. And you heard John Rooney and Rick Horton mention this in their postgame wrap-up. But win got that on a day in which it did not seem like anything was getting out and that was especially evident in the bottom of the fourth inning. It’s still a two- two game. Uh and Nolan Aronado hit one to the warning track in left center field. It was handled by the left fielder Guriel on the warning track. It looked off the bat like it was going to get out. Jordan Walker was the next hitter. He flies one into right center field. It’s caught by Alec Thomas on the warning track. It looked like it might get out off the bat. Now, you think about when the Cardinals come back here in June, it’s a little warmer. Both those balls probably get out. Not today. And it’s a two- two game as we go to the fifth inning. And in the fifth inning, the uh Diamondbacks go in order again. Top of the order, retired by Sunny Gray. A long fly out from Catel Marte, but nothing else really doing there. Bottom of the fifth inning, and the Cards go in order against Brandon F. We thought this would be a pretty good pitching matchup. As it turned out, it probably or it really was. And it was a two- two game still. As we get to the top of the sixth inning, it’s still Sunny Gray for the Cards. Josh Naylor strikes out to start it. And then Auaneo Suarez sends one into left field for a double and he’s on with one out. The next batter is Paven Smith. The seventh hit off Sunny Gray. There’s a swing and a hit to right field. That’s going to bring in the go-ahead run. And Walker’s throw goes towards second and it’s 3-2 Arizona as Smith is two out of three. And then Gabrielle Moreno singled. So it’s two on after three straight one out hits. Alec Thomas going to try to continue that as he faces Gray. He strikes out. Gray is ready and he brings it in. A swing and a miss. A pitch up strikes out Thomas. Two strikeouts in the inning. Five in the game for Sunny. Five in the game as you heard. Heraldo Peromo then grounded out, leaving two on base for the Diamondbacks. But they lead the game now 3-2. Bottom of the sixth inning. Mason Win leads things off. He is walked. Brendan Donovan is next. The pitch, a swing, and a drive right field. That ball’s going to get down. Harold moves over, picks it on a bounce, holding Donovan to a long single, sending win all the way to third. Win is the tying run at third with nobody out. big time there because the next batter is Ivon Herrera. A swing and a highf fly ball that goes down the right field line in medium right. Carol makes the catch tagging at third. Here’s win trying to score and he makes it moving into second base safely. Donovan Alec Berles been flyed out. That chase the starter Brandon F. Kevin Ginkle comes on. He strikes out Nolan Arinado and that ends the sixth. But we’re all even at three apiece. We go to the bottom or the uh I should say the seventh inning. Seventh inning goes quietly for John King who’s on to relieve Sunonny Gray. Gray goes six innings, three runs, nine hits and he strikes out five. Bottom seven now for the Redbirds. Jordan Walker leads things off. Count in his favor. Two and one. And he taps that one to the left side. They better hurry to get forgot I had that strike going to throw it. The short stop for Domo just hangs on to the baseball. Second hit of the game for Walker who just beat it out. It was just plain hustling probably.
