Can The Detroit Pistons Convince Dennis Schroder to Re-Sign With Them?

I know Ben did ask about Dennis Schroer. So Sean, you think he actually goes to Dallas, which is that’s a very interesting team to kind of keep an eye on. I know there was a report that the Pistons have interest in bringing back him and Beasley, but I also think I he also like when you look at the Traan press conference, one of the comments that Tan made was it takes two to tango. And I think he was kind of talking about Dennis Shruder there of, you know, like I I I certainly think that like Dennis Shruder like there is a scenario where he’d love to be back in Detroit and like he talked about how much he enjoyed his time with the Pistons like like when like very early on he compared this roster to the team that he really loved playing with in Atlanta and like the camaraderie there. So I don’t think it’s out of the question for for Dennis Shrew to be back. In fact, I think if if the money’s there, if the opportunities there or if the opportunities aren’t there elsewhere, it makes a lot of sense. It’s just when I look at other opportunities in the league, if you just kind of put two and two together, you know, I don’t think he goes back to Brooklyn because they traded him like, you know, and that’s just another it’s like great, thanks, thanks for trading me. Why would I go back to be traded again? Correct. And you know, like I just he’s he’s one of those guys that is not bad enough to just be a consensus starting like like to not be a consensus like backup. Like he’s good enough to start in some places, right? And like if you’re if you’re just thinking of where is he going to have the most opportunity and like what would be the best situation for him just putting two to two together like Dallas is going to need a point guard until Kyrie Irvings comes back. They’re going to need someone to play pick and roll with Anthony Davis. They’re going to need somebody to set the table for Cooper Flag. And I think you could probably make some pretty decent money there. So, that’s why I just I I’m eyeballing that situation just because to me it just it makes a lot of sense. But um I I think the I think the I I think it would be really good for both sides if he were to be able to come back because for one to be able to have some consistency I think would be good and also like I think he could truly settle into a backup point guard role for a while here in Detroit and actually see some success. I I agree with you there. I think the interest level from Detroit standpoint would tell me they’re going to be over the cap team. meaning that they would be able to use the mid-level exception on Beasley so it wouldn’t affect their cap space and if they want to be over the cap team they would have more than enough money to resign Dennis Rder but it kind of depends like what this front office wants to do because their cap space is dependent on Kate Cunningham it’s dependent on his allNBA status because you could have 28 million if Kade makes all NBA you got 19 million because it’ll be a $9 million cap hit because uh this the way his contract is, it has all NBA language in it. So, the Pistons would have around 19 million if he does make all NBA. Um, Ben, I if if if I had to guess, I think Trajan would love to have him back, but I I think Dennis in this time of his career, I think he would probably still want to play for a playoff team or a contender. Uh, does Phoenix get desperate because they saw the Tus Jones experience and saying, you know what, we need more of a a floor general out there. They had Monte Morris as well. Who knows what happens in Phoenix. Maybe they look to try to, you know, get a a Dennis Schroeder and try to make the money work that way. I I don’t really know how they do that, but Pistons do have their his early bird rights, so they do have a little bit of leverage there. Um, if I had to guess, I think he might be gone just because you don’t really have the the cap space that he’s probably looking for. I don’t really think he’s he’s going to want to take a hometown discount. He probably wants to get a little bit of the money that uh he didn’t get signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. But, I mean, overall, I I I I think he’d be a good player to bring back. I just don’t know how realistic that may be. When you get traded to three teams in one season, Yeah. You don’t take a hometown discount. No. But he and on the other hand, he might want some consistency and might just say, “Fuck it.” Like, “I I’ll I’ll sign for 5 million. I just want some consistency in my life. I’m I’m I’m sick of uprooting like every like two months.” You never know. Yeah. [Music] Ah. [Music]

  1. I like Schroder, but I think between Ivey being back in the fold for the Pistons and a great demand for Schroder's services in the league, the Pistons will be outbid.

  2. We have to choose either Schroeder , Beasley , Hardaway jr. and we only need one of them and should try to find someone with some size that can help on both ends

  3. I feel like people underestimate how good of a pickup Schroeder was and how he is far superior as a second string primary ball handler compared to Sasser. The difference is night and day.
