Red zone offense has been a problem for two years now!! 2018-22 Mahomes averaged nearly 40 passing TD’s at 38.8 but over the last 2 years has declined to 27.0 and I think a lot of it has to do with for whatever the reason, Mahomes doesn’t use his legs enough but if the offense wants to get back to peak elite form, his legs are one key aspect to it.

As good as he is in the pocket rhythm and timing, his signature trademark has always been his ability to manipulate and read defenses and make throws when using his legs outside the pocket and no better timing to use it than in red zone cause of stress it puts on defenders guarding the end zone!! It puts them in no mans land, do they pursue Pat and leave their man/area to create an open window in shrunk down area for Patrick to find and hit for TD pass or do they let Patrick run it in himself!! If I were OC, my goal each year going forward is Patrick should be getting 6-10 rushing TD’s as he’s more than capable of doing what Allen, Lamar, Hurts do inside the 10 especially if Mahomes is closer to 30 passing TD’s than 40 passing TD’s like in 2018-22, 6-10 rushing TD’s makes up that deficit.

There is no way Mahomes should end his career with less or barely more rushing TD’s than Tom Brady when he’s easily the more mobile of the two and all Brady could do is goal line QB sneaks!! More plays like his 2 rush TD’s in the AFC Title Game would be great to see going forward!!

  1. I’ve been saying it for a long time now that they’re trying to turn Mahomes into a statue. Sure, it will prolong his career BUT it will also make him less electric and effective. He’s NOT a pocket passer. He’s a backyard, impromptu football GOD. Sure, he can be effective in the pocket, but he’s not a better pocket passer than Tom, Rodger’s, Manning, etc. What makes him special is his ability to be a pocket passer in addition to his playmaking on the move, his running, etc. he needs to be a threat at all 3 levels again and it’s NOT his fault.

  2. I can’t remember who it was, but last season, one of the coaches admitted to coaching scared because they didn’t want to either waste pats gifts or get him hurt.

  3. They use his legs when it matters and save him during the regular season. Remember that concussion he got on a read option a few years ago? I dont think it’s worth it when our floor is overtime at the AFC championship.

Edit: Brady also had a lot of qb sneaks and we don’t do that with mahomes.

  4. Meh, idk.

I have never felt more strongly than after the last Bills game that Andy reserves some things for the playoffs. This is one of them. We can 15-2 playing like shit when Mahomes is our QB. We elevated in the playoffs because the playbook is unlocked.

  5. I’m convinced after they saw Mahomes have his knee dislocated on that QB sneak against the Bronco’s years back, a decision was collectively made between Hunt, Veach, and Reid, to only use Mahomes legs in certain, desperate situations, and playoff games.

  6. more than the knee injury I think they’re protecting pat from himself. he’s a reckless runner. look at the air Jordan touchdown against the bengals where he scored but got rocked by going airborne, the helmet break against miami, ect. he also twists alot while running which is a recipe for disaster.

pats the ultimate competitor, and sometimes you have to protect himself against that.

  7. He has half as many touchdowns in 7 years as Brady has in 22? I’m fine with recognizing that the receiving room has been hampered since Hill left and that they’ve (on paper) reloaded nicely for this year. Get the passing game to an approximation of what we had, couple that with a solid running game to keep the defense honest, and I think the offense is going to be just fine.

  8. Well mahomes has played less than half the seasons Brady has so he’s technically on pace to pass him

  9. he does use his legs in the redzone during the postseason. why take the risk during the regular season?

  10. No reason to use his legs during the regular season. Don’t get him hurt trying to pad stats. Get to the playoffs and win championships

  11. Wasn’t most of Brady’s “rushing TDs” from QB sneaks?
    That chiefs don’t do.
