Cubs vs. Marlins Game Highlights (5/19/25) | MLB Highlights
A Citrus series win. The Marlins will host the team they faced less than a week ago. The Chicago Cubs, Pete Crow Armstrong, 23 year old center fielder continues to impress one of the top prospects for the Cubs Matt Shaw from AAA Iowa. He will play third and bat ninth for the Cuppies with Edward cabrera 27 year old right hander. He’ll make his seventh start of the season. Now he was supposed to start against the Rays on Friday, but it was pushed back due to fluid build up in his fingernail. He will make the start tonight against the Cubs Henry Crow Armstrong eight for 14 against the White Sox 12 pitch. He started to w that pitch and that might have kicked off of him and towards the third base dugout. Yes, he did. And Crow Armstrong is out on one of the more bizarre outs you’ll ever see. Here’s Kyle Tucker, there’s a swing and a miss on a curve back to back strikeouts for Cabrera to start the ball game. Bush hitting 2 55 7 home runs. He’s driven in 20 five, the two from Cabrera to Busch. There’s a swing and a miss scoreless top of the first for cy punch it out three. Well, what can we tell you about Ben Brown? 19 strikeouts, two walks over his last three starts and just one home run out over his last four. I don’t know if Sanchez will be swinging here 3 to 0, but one of the issues that Ben Brown does have on occasion he can get wild. So we’ll see if he throws a strike here. Oh, pitch green light. That one hammered out to center and deep. A line shot homer. 30 swinging and sanchez greets Ben Brown to Miami. Well, you wonder why Jesus sanchez is hitting that leadoff spot with Xavier Edwards on the il the first career leadoff homer for Jesus Sanchez just like that. It’s the Marlins who break the ice to open things up here in the bottom of the first. When we saw Ben Brown last week in Chicago, he gave up just a couple of runs and both of those came on solo home. Now it’s three balls and a strike on Augustine who’s hit four in a row hitting 38 over his last 11 games. He was one for three against Brown last week. He gets into one, sends it high and deep and it’s back to back Jacks for the Marlins that left his bat at 110. He’s so dangerous. He’s only been here for a moment 90 at bats maybe, but his impact is tremendous, big, strong and physical and he’s got some presence in the batter’s box and he’s got some plate awareness. Brown. He’s firing the Rosen bag down on the ground a little upset with himself. You know, it brings up Moyes by Asters 12 at bats into his big league career one for round of applause for him. He’s got some family in attendance goes the other way for a base hit, turn around first and Moyes by a second big league not two out single here in the second miguel, a three hit game against the Marlins last Monday and two doubles, 22 a check swing and a pitch in the dirt. He did not go around. Amaya did not. And is that kicked away from the catcher ramirez by Asters pushes to second on a wild pitch at second as a low and outside ball four and now matt Shaw first at bat back in the big leagues. Two on two out here in the second chokes up as he digs in from the right side and he swings and misses at a slider and Cabrera strands a pair in a scoreless second. Connor Norby leads off the bottom of the second for the Marlins swing and a miss strike three first strikeout for, you know, and that’s what happens when you get ahead in the count. Then you get the chase swing on the breaking ball two delivery, got him back to back. Case to start the second and Ben Brown starting to groove a little bit. This guy, his primary skill is his speed. He can flat out fly, get rid of it. And on top two to nothing going into the top of the third PC stepping into the batter’s box, there’s a swing and a miss he’s punched out twice so far tonight , Edward Cabrera making Pete Crow Armstrong look silly Suzuki. One of two hits for the Cubs infield single swing and a miss got him with a sink. Another scoreless frame for Edward Cabrera three scoreless two hits with six Ks Bush. Two hits one for nine this year against the Marlins. That’s it. Well, deep center hill back can’t get it one over the wall. It’s a double for Michael Bush to start the fourth bushwack 110 MPH for a leadoff double Swanson grounds out to third. Here’s Niko Horner back to back to back two hit games for Niko. Niko left side. So no to first, he’s safe infield single. Nikko Horner now 1st and 2nd for the Cubs one out first at bat for Moises single left side on a fastball well out of the strike zone swing and a miss got the change up and by a lunged and swung over the top of it. So now it’s up to miguel and this is a big at bat in terms of game momentum. The Cubs had a leadoff double from Bush, he is still at second base out to left ST at the track at the wall, catch him. He did, it’s gone. Miguel Maya, fourth home run of the year one swing of the bat Cubs take their first lead. It’s a 32 game. I think the ball hits ST in the side of the glove as he goes up over the wall and does not, is not able to make the catch And it turns out to be a three run bomb right hitting Connor Norby , the six hitting third baseman ready for the first pitch. He lines one down the left field line that is in for a base hit and that rolls to the wall. It’s going to be extra bases for Connor Suzuki fishes it out and fires it back in. Connor. Norby has a leadoff double here to open the bottom of the fifth. That was a knuckle curve ball, but it was a hanging knuckle curveball that allowed Norby to get to it. Norby hit 12 of his last 13 and here is liam Hicks. I think you could make the case that he has been the most impressive qualified rookie this season and he swings and he lifts it in the air deep, right center field. Tucker is going back at the wall. He leaps and he can’t make the catch Norby just now around third. He’s going to score. The game is tied Hicks on his way to third with a stand up triple and get the ball for Liam Hicks. That’s his first major league triple though, the Marlins have four hits in this game. Two home runs, a double and a triple. And now the Marlins are poised to take the lead here in the bottom of the fifth swing and a miss straight three as Brown gets Hill with a slow moving breaking ball one away, bring up javier Soha there’s a ground ball up the middle that’s a base hit for Javier Soha and the Marlins once again have the lead. A beautiful piece of hit by that young man. He just keeps doing little things impress you every game. Jesus sanchez. The hitter led off the contest against Brown with a home run and a 3 to 0 count with a big lead at first. There he goes swing and a miss throw down to second base is not in time, not only a big lead but a terrific jump. There was no way that Umaya was going to throw him out. Now he’s in scoring position for Jesus Sanchez. Top of the order, a line drive up the middle of the base hit Mia clipped Brown’s glove. Here comes around third. No, the plate 5 to 3. Miami leads a multi hit effort for Jesus Sanchez set up by the stolen base and it did clip the glove of Brown. He slowed it up enough. It made it easier I think for so to score three run fifth in the , the Marlins. They’re looking for more Ramirez swings and misses at a knuckle curveball ends up on one knee on the follow through strike three. Sanchez was often moving before Brown even picked up his leg. That one. A called strike but Jesus Sanchez makes Rod happy with a stolen base. Jesus sanchez in scoring position. Lopez lines one through the left side. That’s a base hit. Sanchez will get the wave. Suzuki’s throw to the plate is not in time. It’s a four run bottom of the fifth inning. Now for Miami and more two out damage done by the Marlins major league ranks for this bullpen with Tenco coming in their second in the R A first in whip first in opponents on base percentage and second in opponents ops. Now just like that this happened quickly, Jesus is loaded the bases with nobody out here in the top of the sixth. You’ve got a sinker ball pitcher , get yourself a ground ball, get a couple of outs and give up a run. And here’s Moyes Aeros. Why not hit a grand slam for your first big league homer? Aeros hits a little chopper slowly first base side. It will be babu everybody is safe. He let Tenno try to make the play on the run but Taco reaching down never got control of the ball and dropped it. Everyone is safe. A run scores. It’s now 6 to 4. Still. Nobody out miguel Maya up with a three run home run. Amaya out to left center stur into the gap. One run scores here comes two, the bases clearing triple cubs back up top. It’s a 7 to 6 game close play at the plate. Did he touch the plate? Oh, my goodness. He’s out. I think he’s out or is the back of the heel down? Have we seen enough with that dirt splashing up to definitively overturn the call after review, the runners hit the ground and went above home plate and never touched it. The call on the field is overturned. The runner is out. So tinoco does find a way to get an out and Ronnie Enriquez is coming in Shan nothing for two just called back up from the minor leagues before tonight’s game. You know, he would love to drive in this go ahead run in the sixth inning right now. Shaw out to right center field back at the track at the wall. He rounds second heads for third. He’ll have to retreat back to second RB I double matt Shaw. Welcome back. 7 to 6 cups. Big swing of the bat for matt Shaw, as you said, Pet just getting called up and he stays on the slider down and away and bangs it to right center and he crunches this ball to the deepest part of the park. A three year $42 million deal for Presley Hill comes to the plate is lofted into left field. That’s a base hit with one away here in the bottom of the seventh inning for Derek Hill. If he can get on, he’s a threat to run. There he goes, he takes off. Fastball is a strike to throw down to second base is not in time. He’s in scoring position. Ryan Pressley. So now two away for Dansby Swanson and the 32 again, there goes the runner here’s a little pop, flash shallow center field racing out. The second baseman can’t make the play safe at third is Bush. As the throw comes in, Dansby goes to second. I don’t think Lopez ever got a glove on that ball. It looked like he was going to grab it. It fell in and now runners at 2nd and 3rd, Niko Horner, the batter boy, this is a big spot when in on his hands again, flared into shallow center field hill sprinting on he chops it down and he makes the catch to retire the side. So it comes down to Derek Hill. He’s one for three tonight in the air to right center field. Tucker is on the move. He’s not going to get there. This bounces on the track and over the wall and the tying run is at second with two outs. Now for Javier, Sano Tucker apparently had a beat on that ball but he did not catch it. It bounced over the wall for a ground rule. Double. So this game is not over yet. Do they have a little bit more magic in him here tonight? Watching all the way. There’s ball four and immediately Javier Soo points at Jesus Sanchez and tells him let’s go. Sanchez is 2 to 4 tonight with a lead off homer in the first, the first of his career RB I single , a stolen base and a run scored in the fifth. That is Burs rolling down the right field line, this is gonna tie it. It might win. The Marlins walk off the curve told you it’s been an exciting game. The Marlins magic continues in Miami, an elated dugout, Jesus sanchez, his second walk off hit and it’s an 87 win for the Marlins over the top dogs in the National League central, the Chicago Cubs.
