What the Boston Bruins Will Look Like in a Month: Marco Sturm, Jake O’Brien & Cap Space

A month from now, the Boston Bruins could look very different — and today, we’re breaking down exactly how.

Segment 1: Marco Sturm is officially behind the bench. We dive into why the Bruins chose the former fan favorite, what he brings as a coach, and how his development success in LA with players like Quinton Byfield and Brandt Clarke fits Boston’s new direction.

Segment 2: Meet Jake O’Brien — Boston’s 2025 first-round pick. He may not have the flashiest highlight reel, but he’s the kind of responsible, high-IQ center the Bruins desperately need. We break down his game, his upside, and how he could fit in under Sturm.

Segment 3: Cap crunch time. With over $26M to start, we project how the Bruins can shape their roster while still having $10M+ in flexibility. Who gets re-signed, who’s out, and what the opening night lineup could look like — including the trade of Korpisalo and promotion of DiPietro.

  1. Just putting it out there, Sturm has not been officially listed as the bruins coach. He is still awaiting and interview. We're jumping ship too quickly imo. But I do think its likely. Im scared of what management will do at the draft.

  2. I hope that the Bruins go with Marco Sturm. He was a smart, tenacious player and has some excellent coaching experience.
Maybe he can help turn this ship around.

  3. Who cares how good a player he was or even the fact that he played for Boston. I want the best coach. Period. If it’s Love or Woodcroft over Sturm, then that’s what I want.

  4. Ian you're looking good by the way hey I would trade Lorei and if I couldn't get rid of sway I would trade korpi and after that it doesn't really matter does it you got to keep geekie though like you said at a reduced rate maybe a 4M Bridge

  5. as a life long Bruins fan, what are your favorite rivalries? Where do the defunct Hartford Whalers fit amongst those rivals?

  6. Donskov would be the best choice and Sturm could be an assistant. As for the draft, assuming the top 6 are all gone, I would take Eklund over O'Brien, even though the later is a center.

  7. Sometimes teams do reach at the top of the draft.if a team ahead of the Bruins fall in love with O’Brien at the draft combo. it could make the top of the first round very unpredictable.

  8. O'Brien at 170lbs. Better put on some meat. I've never seen him play, but I would say if he's smart enough AND quick enough on skates he might be awesome.

  9. Resign: Geekie, Jokiharu, Khusnutdinov, Lauko, Koepke, Lohrei (a bridge prove yourself deal), Bussi, DiPietro, Farinacci, Tufte, Merkulov. Wotherspoon resign only if he'll take cheap money. This means Beecher and Wahlstrom are gone (amoungst others). Rid themselves of Korpisalo. I'm also not sold on Mittelstadt. As for signing UFA's, I'd love Ehlers, but don't see him leaving the Jets. Mikael Granlund made a solid offer. Kick the tires on Provorov, Boeser, Gourde, Duchene. That's a lot of names, but ultimately, I wouldn't sign too many UFA's as I'd rather younger guys step up. Offer sheets??? Guess I'd wait and see where everything landed first
