🔴LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics | MLB 2025 Full Game Highlights | May 27 | EN VIVO

[Music] and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Oakland Athletics taking on the Houston Astros. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. [Applause] Just about set to go. And on the hill in this one, you say Kikuchi. What do you look for here? This guy used in terms of a very good outing. His teammates really enjoy when he’s on the mound. Everyone seems to be loose, which can help the offense be a bit more dangerous. So, if you look at the opposing lineup, doesn’t just settle in. They want to make this an uncomfortable start from the beginning. And that’s down and away. [Applause] and a swing and a miss. Now one away. Came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. No touch. That misses. Two and one. One down. Base is empty. Close but called a ball. Ball three. Swings through that one out in front that time. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. Foul ball and it remains a full count. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] Deep drive down the line. Foul ball. The kick the 3-2 downstairs and it misses. Ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. Now it’s going to be Tyler Soderstroke. Tucker on the move. He’s got it. And there’s two away. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. So here’s Brown at the plate. [Applause] Two outs. And that just misses. [Applause] The pitch just off the outside part of the plate. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Got him swinging. One left for Oakland. Now here come the Astros. No score. Back after this on the show. back here in Houston. And today’s starting pitcher, number 40. Anytime you have five pitches to work with on the mound, that repertoire can be a real weapon in terms of keeping hitters off balance. Man, it’s it’s one of those things that I’m going to be looking for in this one. Does he have a feel for all of those pitches or is he just able to get one or two over in the strike zone where he wants? Now, it’s tough to do to be able to command all those pitches, but if he can, he is going to be very tough for the opponent today. [Music] Swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field. That’ll touch down for a hit. So, runner aboard to start the inner. He was all over that one. Really good swing right there. You got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Here’s Kyle Tucker and he deals. That one hooked foul. He’s a bad ball hitter. So even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. Left-hand batter waits, chases that one out of the zone, and that’s the first down. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I’d call it a power curve ball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it, and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. Here’s Yordon Alvarez [Applause] swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play [Applause] and the pitch in the dirt. Blocked. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. So a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, that right there erases the chance at the inning ending double play. So, good job on the bases to move up on the wild pitch. Changes the outlook of the inning in a pretty big way. Man at second. keeps the attack going with a foul ball [Applause] outside. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. Not in time. Great effort, but it’s an infield hit. All over that one right there. Fielder got a piece of it. The way that thing came off the bat, no surprise at all. He couldn’t pick it cleanly. It’s a very difficult play and that swing definitely was deserving of a hit. Now it’s Alex Bregman. Two on, one out. They’ll try to base it. Run scores easily and it’s one nothing. Mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And you know on the mound it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher, but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. Landel Gainner Diaz swing and a miss as that one was high. It’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game, but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on. Let’s see if they can cash in. Double play ball to second. Gellop to second. That’s one throw to first, but he beat it. Well, lots of pitches thrown in this first inning. It’s kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching, but you know what? It’s still early enough. He can settle in and he can get some length if he just cleans up his mechanics a little bit. Vic Karatini at the plate and a pitch. Got him. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s an early one- nothing lead. All set for the start of the inning. Here’s the second baseman, Zack Gell. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. Makes the grab. One away. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes, they make the play perfectly. Here’s Tyler Nevin to the plate. [Applause] And now two and one. [Applause] Big swing and a miss. Carl Dixon working the plate in this one. You know, we often hear and talk about umpires being a pitcher umpire, but Dixon maybe a little bit more hitter friendly than most. He’s kind of tight on the corners. So, we’ll see if that comes into play at all in this one. The Stros up by a run here in the top of the second and another ball. Good played appearance there able to take the walk. A great back and forth in that at bat. did play off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Stepping in Kyle McC. And that’s two. So they go quietly there. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Astros one and the A’s nothing. Bottom of the second and stepping in is the speedy Jeremy Pñena. [Applause] The wind to the pitch. The shorts stop takes the ball. [Applause] swing and a miss. That’s that slurf right there. He threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. Cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. Had him way out front of the slur. No, there’s a small side of relief right there. I mean, just to keep that speed off the base pass. It’s not just the pitcher. It’s other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that runner potentially stealing, but also be in position to make a play. As an outfielder, you’re thinking about a base hit to the outfield. I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base. So, I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn’t reach base. Here’s Jason Hayward. Check swing and that’s a ball. One down. Base is empty. That one almost got him. On the ground right side and foul ball. Payoff pitch on the ground right side. Steps on first for the out. batting nut the center fielder. And next to hit for Houston, Chaz [Applause] McCormick. The pitch. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Two down. Nobody on. Fouls it off. Still one and two. The pitch. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. One, two, three go the Astros, but they hold a one- nothing lead. onto the third inning. And now number 28, the leftielder, Jazz Cameron. [Applause] Next offering is down low and it’s two and one. in the air on the infield. Altuve under it. Hauls it in for the owl. Batting up the short stop. Nick. Now here is Nick Allen [Applause] and a pitch. Nope. Outside the Astros leading by a run. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Hit in the air right field. Tucker should have it. Squeezes it. Two away now. Back to the top of the lineup. JJ Blade up next for the A’s. on the ground and that’s just foul. Two out. Space is empty. Got him looking and he did not like the call. A’s go quickly and quietly there. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. Back here at Minute Made a Park as we go to the last of the third. Here’s the former MVP, Jose Altuve. [Applause] That clips the corner, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Got him. And now one away. Kyle Tucker up next for the Astros. One down, base is empty. That’s outside. And now three and one. swings and sends a rocket to right. He’s got it and there are two down. Not fooled at all right there. He was clearly all over it, but sometimes you hit it too hard and right at someone. You’re looking for one of those loop hits to get a knock sometimes. Two out, space is empty. And now here is your Don Alvarez. swing and a miss. One and two. Two strikes. [Applause] Two outs. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. [Music] [Applause] And here comes swing and a miss. Struck him out. Astros go down one, two, three, but they still lead it one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Brent Rooker. The wind to the pitch and the swinging a miss. and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off. Man, save that mid90s fast until the final pitch of the at bat. So, at the plate, he hadn’t really had a good opportunity to time things up. By the time the pitch was recognized and the swing came through the zone, fast was in the catcher’s mid. Striding to the plate now for Oakland, Tyler Soderstroke. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. The Athletics yet to pick up a hit here. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and there’s two away. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. [Applause] So, here’s the cleanup hitter for Oakland, Seth Brown. And a 3-1 on the way. 3-1. And he couldn’t come up with it. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. And that’s off the inside edge. Now three and one [Applause] now snap throw the first round back and a dive. I think you want to get a one-way lead. Be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter not a power guy. So you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score a ball in the gap. So now two on and two outs. First and second, two down. Now a chance for Tyler Nevin. Here comes the pitch. Wouldn’t chase that time. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Two on, two outs. With the swing there instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Gr ball right side and it finds its way through for a win. Here comes the throw. Tag save. It’s 1-1. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. Just a simple ground ball the other way. They had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel. put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole. So, first and second with two outs. Digging in for Oakland. Kyle McCann. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And that is that. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Bottom four. And now it’s Alex Bregman. This is a batter right here who really produces in these night games. And we saw the latest example of it in this first AB. And now two balls in a strike. Well, these Astros doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. hit pretty well in the air out to center. Puts it away for the out and there’s one down. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today. So, next up for Houston, Gainer Diaz all tied up. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. [Music] Next offering in there for a strike. And it’s one and two. Two straight. The pitch knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. And now it’s going to be Victor Keratini. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] And another ball. [Applause] Still two and two after the foul [Applause] ball. Two down. Do on that. Misses the zone. And now it’s three and two. Got him looking. It is a three up, three down inning. Nothing doing there for Houston. Still tied 1-1. Back here in Houston, ready now for the fifth inning. And here is number 28 [Music] the wide to kick the pitch and that gets the inside corner for a strike. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. And a pitch. This one popped up. One away. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Nick Allen, [Applause] the lefty ready and a one. That one missed. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen from Valdez, the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. Swinging a miss. It’s two and two in the air left field. Hayward settles under it and he makes the catch. Two down. [Applause] JJ. So the Oakland lineup turns over. This is JJ Blade. Kicks and Dios one fouled off. Two and [Applause] two. Two outs. Tries to check his swing. Now a look to third. Didn’t go. Left-hand hitter waits. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it [Applause] again. Two down. Dolman bows it back with two strikes. Kicks and fires. And there’s Paul for it. Wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Gosh, another walk in this one. Man, he is having some real issues with control. Go ahead run on base. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. The pitch. Hard hit to third. They get the force. That ends the frame. The A’s strand one. Score remains tied 1-1. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound. Joey Estes still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs, kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. And stepping in for the Astros, Jeremy Pñena [Applause] comebacker to the mound tosses to first and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. The left number 22 Jason Hayward. Jason Hayward up next for the Astros. [Applause] out towards right center field. Brown makes the catch. Two down. And next to hit for Houston, Chaz McCormick. [Applause] And the righty deals. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Swings and misses. Struck him out. Astros are down quietly. Score remains deadlocked at one. And we’re back. And now the first baseman, Tyler Soderstroke. The one-1 is fouled off. The lefty closing in on 100 pitches. And now the lefty. Now this is in the air down the line. Hayward under this one. And out number one on the grab. [Music] [Applause] Next pitch misses outside and the count two and one. Activity in the bullpen for Houston. From Valdez, the left-hander is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go. That one misses. Three and one now. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. That one’s in there. Full combine. 3-1 count. Saying to himself, I’ve got to get a fast ball here. Just spins a get me over breaking ball to bring the count full. High in the air out to right. Tucker makes the grab for the second out. Next up for the A’s, Zack Gell. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Swinging a miss. Now one and two. Really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there. And a pitch down on strikes. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Three up, three down that time. Top of the order. Two up in the home half of the six. All tied 1-1. Bottom of the six. Jose Altuve up to here. The second baseman, [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Jose and the right-hander deals. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tarn fast. Next offering [Applause] upstairs and a miss for the strike out. Had him way out front of the slur. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn’t find a way to fight at all. Now here is Kyle Tucker. One down. Base is empty. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Now it’s Yordon Alvarez. [Applause] [Music] That’s down and [Applause] [Music] in. Righty to the plate. Follow this count. runner. Not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. [Applause] B at the belt and fires, fouls one away, and now three and two. Just missed. If he’s able to connect on that, look out. [Applause] with a go-ahead run at first here in the bottom of the six. [Applause] the pitch. That ball is foul and the pressure is [Applause] building and a payoff pitch. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Bell having such a tough time putting him away. Six foul balls in a row. Man, what a battle. Lifted in the air right center field. Brown sizing this one up. He’s got it. And there’s two [Applause] away. The battle the third baseman. Here’s Alex Bregman. [Applause] right-handed reliever. Foul ball there. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Puts it in the air out towards left center and that will end the inning. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Ryan Presley. Ryan Presley. And now Tyler Nevin, the third base, Tyler Nevin. [Applause] The pitch. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] Next pitch misses way outside [Applause] and it skips into there rightander. kick steals and that one is lifted in the air and that’ll fall for a base hit. A leadoff single and the go-ahead run is aboard. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good counter. You know what they say, he couldn’t have thrown it out there any better than that and certainly the case that time. Just flared it back behind the second base and dropped it in there. Go ahead run on base. Kyle McCann up next for the A’s. Got the back of Ju soon. Strike [Applause] two. Caught him looking for the K. Oh man, just locked him up with that slider even though it caught a lot of the zone. And I think that tells you all you need to know about what he was looking for in the box and it clearly was not that pitch. Now the left fielder definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. [Applause] swing at a highf fly ball down the right field line. Little trouble here. Puts it away for the and there’s two [Applause] down. And the batter will be the shortstop Nick Allen. [Applause] SW clearly was sitting on a fast right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first. and misses. It’s a strike out. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. All tied 1-1. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Number 65. Here’s the catcher, Gainner Diaz. The catcher Diaz. Here’s the 2-2 and right back to the mound. fires over to first and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Up next for the Astros, the first base. So digging in, Victor Keratini. Well, both sides equally as strong. So not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And another ball. Oakland’s bullpen has some movement. Michelle Otanz appears to be getting loose. Boil getting cranked up as well. [Music] [Applause] And that’s outside. And that’s ball three. All tied up near the bottom of the seventh. Well struck left field. This one’s got a chance. pulls it in on the warning track. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base. Number three, short Jeremy Pñena up next for the Astros. Trying to keep good speed off the bases out towards left center. sizes this one up, pulls it down, and he makes the catch. And that is the inning. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eight Valdez. And he’s got a big time breaking ball to contend with. Hitters going to have to pick it up early if they’re going to have any chance. So the lineup flips over now. Here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, JJ Blade. the wind to the pitch and that’s in for a strike. That’s inside and it’s three and two. Brent Rooker in the deck circle for the A’s. swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at bat. Well, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. We’ll have some adjustments to make. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Ripped to short, zips it across. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Striding to the plate now for Oakland, Tyler Soderstrom. And that one wrapped [Applause] foul. Two outs. That one in the dirt. Now two and two. Chase that time. Seth Brown next to bat for the A’s. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. had a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Welcome back as we have a pinch hitter to lead it off. Mauricio Dubong. He represents the go-ahead run. [Applause] [Music] And a pitch just misses the mark outside the zone. Chaz McCormick in the on deck [Applause] circle. The pitch on the ground to third. Nevin throws to first in time. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Good late bite on that slider. Got the hitter out front. Rolled over on it. Exactly what he was supposed to do. Now Chaz McCormick. Base is empty. One away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Delivers outside. Next offering is in for a strike. And here it comes. Got him. Now two out. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. So, the Houston lineup turns over. Here’s the Astros leadoff man, Jose Altu. And another ball. [Applause] [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. Fly ball down the line and it drops in. Well, patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count. With the way defenders track down balls these days, I mean, both from the infield and in the outfield, there really aren’t a lot of base hits on balls hit like that. But there’s always a little room back up. Kyle Mueller on the pitch out of the pen here. And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know. I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. Two outs, runner at first. And here is Kyle Tucker. The pitch. This one belted deep left field on its way. Gone. He powers that one out of here. And they lead it. It’s 31. The brighter the lights, the more he shines. Yeah, this guy lives for big moments and right there made a statement big [Applause] time. Change up in the zone is a hitter’s dream. It’s a BP fast ball, but you’re playing in real time. Most times the pitcher’s asking for a new baseball just right there. And next is the designated hitter, Yordon Alvarez. Here’s a 1-1. And another ball. Two balls, one strike. [Applause] Two-1 now. Two. Two balls. Two strikes. Ripped on the ground to second. On to first and they get the out on Alvarez. Play made. That ends the inning. Two-run shot for the Astros this inning. Last chance coming up for Oakland. Staying in the game on defense, Mauricio Dubong. He’ll be the new left fielder after entering the game as a pinch hitter. Mauricio Dub. So Josher gets the call to the mound. I think closer has to be one of the toughest jobs in baseball and we see a pretty high turnover rate because of it. Every outing seems to be high pressure, this one included. We’ll see if he can wrap up the win and get himself a save. Ball on a strike and that one fouled off. [Applause] Off the mark there. Two and two [Applause] right through there. Got it. And a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Well, the first batter it’s always a big one for the closer. I mean, you get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that, you know, you’re going to wrap this thing [Applause] up. This one lifted in the air left field. That one gets down for a hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single digging in. Tyler Nevin tying run at the plate. Swings through that one for strike two. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. that misses. Two and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. He misses. It’s a strike out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him forward. The Athletics down to their last out. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Kyle [Applause] McCann. Sends it to center. And that’s going to do it. He pulls it down. And the Astros claim the win here behind some great pitching and defense. 3-1 ball game. Quick game. We were looking for a little bit more. It seemed at points the offenses were going to break out, but a total of four runs combined. Really good pitching and defense on both sides. Just a couple of key swings making all the difference. And your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us. [Applause] Double heat.
