The New York Islanders have signed Kyle Palmieri to a two-year contract

  1. Streaky aging forward that had a -17 despite his goal output. Gonna need to see average salary on this, but never liked idea of bringing him back.

  2. 2 year deal it’s doesn’t really matter what the additional terms are. He’s a consistent 20 goal scorer and can play up and down the line up. We were never going to “tank” next year, so unless you’re still living in that fantasy land there is nothing negative to draw from this.

  3. As long as he’s paid like an older, declining player I won’t mind.

  4. Unless this is a crazy overpay I’m fine with this. Not insanely excited, not furious.

  5. A good middle six player on reasonable term that can help transition into the next contending window. Sounds like a good deal!

  6. Headline should read, Darche discovers a 2 year contract for Kyle Palmieri while rummaging through his new desk.

  7. 2 years is fine as long as $$ is okay, it’s so refreshing to not “have the contract in the drawer” until training camp

  8. Love this. Thinks he’s massively underrated and look forward to seeing him work again

  9. Absolutely fine. It’s not like we don’t have roster spots for young guys to fill. Obviously you don’t let him walk for free. 2 years is reasonable at Palms’s age. I assume this was Lou’s contract but even so there’s nothing inherently wrong with it.

I can already see Isles twitter and r/hockey complaining that we couldn’t sign Palms for league min lol… guys who put up points get paid accordingly.

  10. Some of y’all in here are wild. Even if you’re rebuilding to whatever degree, you can’t have *no* skaters. You can’t just throw a roster entirely made up of dogshit nobodies on the ice and sit on your wholly unused cap space like a dragon. Especially if you’re hoping to develop a few players who will need *some* help. It’s not a long contract and it’s not that much money for a vet and some degree of continuity.

  11. 2 x 4.75 is great for Palms – not sure why people don’t like this. Cap is only going up and we have some youth in the pipeline.

  12. Trash, dude went invisible after Brock was traded. Almost 5 million a year for a guy turning 35 next season.

  13. A reasonable contract? I thought the league minimum for vets was 6×6 regardless of age.

    This is a good signing.

  14. I’m happy. Might be his last contract before retirement and happy he’s with us still. Like Parise even tho older he was consistently good. Also a great veteran if we finally bring in younger guys for him to help get their groove

  15. 4.75 for our best shooter and most physical top 9 forward? for 2 years? what exactly are we bitching about?

  16. I love palms we owe him a cup along with soriky , lee , and varly at this point

  17. I’m ok with the term and the money, but he also has a full NTC for the first year. Fucking Dementia Lou did it again

  18. Didn’t expect this to be the first Darche signing but I’m not mad
