Expectations For Garrett Wilson In 2025 | New York Jets Off-Season
All [Music] right, guys. What’s going on? Welcome in. So, in this one, I wanted to really talk about the expectations for wide receiver Garrett Wilson entering 2025. It’s a big year for him. It’s a big year for the Jets, obviously. Um, but we’re approaching the end of the rookie deal. I’m not sure exactly when I’m going to post this. It’s May 24th now, but at this point in time, no extension has been handed out. We have not seen word. Maybe that changes this week or next week or, you know, maybe during training camp or something like that. But at this point in time, Garrett is just still playing out his rookie deal entering year four. Of course, we have the fifth year option as well. But, uh, it’s no secret we need a big year from Garrett, man. We need a big year. We have a lot of new things changing. head coach, system, culture, play caller, OC, quarterback, lots of new things, right? Um, what can we expect? What are the realistic expectations? There are some fans that think he’s going to explode, have a great year, uh, improve on literally every single statistic. There are some fans that think he’s going to take a step backwards going from Aaron Rogers to Justin Fields. Let’s take a look back at Garrett’s stats so far. So 2022 where he became rookie of the year he had 83 snags, 113 receiving yards with four touchdowns. 2023 rolls around 95 catches. So 12 more catches compared to the previous year. And then in 2024 was his best season of his career. 101 catches, 114 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns. So, real real big increase with the touchdowns there going from three to seven. That’s obviously big time. Now, what do we know about Garrett? We know he’s 24 years old. We know he passes the eye test. I mean, take your pick. Great hands, great vertical jump. He’s not the biggest guy in the world, but he can still win one-on-one matchups on the outside. Uh, similar to like a Justin Jefferson can just jump out of the gym. One of my favorite things about Garrett, and this was actually my favorite thing about him back at Ohio State. Really the biggest reason why I wanted the Jets to draft him, his start stop time. Like he can stop so effortlessly, just stop on a dime and then just speed right back up to 100 miles an hour. Like the just the deceleration, the acceleration, it’s just so quick, so effortless. It’s um you know, I I think that trait is rare of Garrett. You can take a look at his ability to make plays on the sideline, right? being able to get two feet in bounds, tap that second foot in as he’s falling out. Great uh contact balance. When was the last time you saw Can you even picture Garrett Wilson being stuck? Helmet flying off uh being on the opposite end of like a high highlight reel of a of an opposing safety just getting laid out of the middle of the field. No, I think he does a great job with the football in his hands and also making plays over the middle of the field. I mean, it’s so obvious that the Jets have a rare talent here in Garrett. And mind you, he has been doing this with for the most part horrible, horrible coaching. Nathaniel Hacket, Todd Downing, little bit of Mike Laflur, but Mike Laflur has been young. Uh, I really like Laflur’s upside as maybe a future uh play calling offensive coordinator eventually in time. Maybe within the next couple of years, he kind of re-emerges as a primary play caller somewhere. currently the OC of the Brands, but um not to mention pretty awful quarterback play as well between, you know, Zack Wilson, injured Aaron Rodgers, uh Tim Bole, you know, for a little bit. It’s been it’s been rough. It’s been rough. He does not have Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes. I mean, take your pick. I mean, man, we could probably rattle off a total of 20 names that would be upgrades over everything that Garrett has had throughout the course of his career, right? Mayfield, Goff, Jordan Love, Lawrence Straoud, Matt Stafford, Kyler M. There’s so many good quarterbacks out in the NFL and you know, you take a look at what Garrett has had to deal with, it it’s not it’s not been great. It it it’s not been great at all. So, the hope is, okay, with Garrett Wilson ascending, all signs are pointing up. He has multiple years of experience under his belt. He has a rookie of the year award under his belt. He has multiple thousand yard receiving seasons. His catches continue to go up by a pretty solid amount every single year. Coming off the best season of his career with a new coaching staff and a new quarterback who he does have familiarity with in Justin Fields playing back at Ohio State together, could we see another step forward? Now, as much as I want to say, “Oh, yeah, for sure. Lock it in. He’s going to have more catches and more touchdowns and more yards.” Again, all signs are pointing, you know, that Garrett Wilson is going to keep getting better. He has not peaked at 24 years old, uh, especially given the talent around him and the coaching around him. But I do feel like the only curveball here is actually not a knock to Garrett. It’s more so just a reality of the offense, which is I think we’re going to be pretty grounded, pound focused. So if the Jets are I mean the Jets have been one of the worst and this is another indictment on the coaching staff but the Jets have been one of the worst rushing attacks in football. So I think with the additions and upgrades to the offensive line understanding that Fields is also a dual threat, right? One of the best rushing quarterbacks in football. Um you know I I think we’re going to be pretty run ccentric run focused. Now, I do feel like Garrett will be able to put up similar numbers, right? Somewhere in that 80 to 105 catch mark, which he’s been able to do every single year. Um, I just don’t really see a situation where the Jets are throwing it 40 times a game weekly. Uh, I don’t see a situation where the Jets are going to be top three in passing attempts per game to end the year. how I’m viewing Garrett’s role in this offense. Easily wide receiver one, easily the primary go-to wide receiver, someone who can work off of play action, right? I’m thinking like, oh, you know, run, run, run. We’re having uh success. We’re having success. Boom. Justin Fields pulls it back on a, you know, on a play action and finds Garrett Wilson over the middle of the field, 15 yards. And with Garrett’s speed, he can take it even further. Right. Quick slants, quick screens. Um, I really feel like Garrett can have a big year in this style of offense, but I don’t know if the overall volume, 1400 receiving yards, 13 receiving touchdowns. I don’t know if that is going to be there. But really, my expectation for Garrett Wilson is more of the same. Maybe a little bit better. you know, a couple more catches, a couple more yards, maybe another touchdown, but that’s just because of how the offense, I believe this, you know, it’s a pure assumption here on how the offense is going to be ran and called uh weekly. So, anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section on this. Thanks so much for watching. And I appreciate you guys. And as always, scoochets. [Music]

I expect another 1000-1100 yards, 5-10 TDs on 80 plus catches. I wish he’d cut down on dancing around after the catch because it exposes his lower body to injury and also cut down on his tendency to carry the ball one-handed.
Garrett has proven that regardless of QB or coaching staff, he will exceed 1000 yards receiving. Just stay healthy #5
Obviously we will have to wait to see how they use him but with fields scramble ability his number should increase. Hopefully Fields can make td throws when in the redzone. It’s an exciting offseason, they should be really good!
Top 5 wr
If we don't get a solid WR2 here then he's gonna get doubled all year and have a down season. Jets need to sign a Vet WR now. Last year Wilson had Davante Adams on the other side for 10 games, which helped a lot to free him up to have a career year, now he doesn't have that anymore. That needs to be addressed.
I think GW goes off for 1400+ and 8+ TD
My first ever Jets jersey was G17 I was praying that we drafted him & now it's time to paid him💯 GO JETS 💚
Really reminds me of Odell so much. If he can get the targets he’s putting up numbers just gotta get him the ball
Don’t let this distract you from the TD that Austin Sefarian-Jenkins was robbed of against the Pats
