The Dallas Stars for the third straight season fall in the Western Conference final. this time in five games to the Edmonton Oilers as they fall by a final score of 6-3 tonight in a first period collapse. At least the first eight minutes of the first period really did the Dallas Stars in tonight. We’ll break it all down. We’ll talk about where this series went wrong for Dallas and some of the tough decisions upcoming for the Stars this off season as well on today’s episode that is brought to you by FanDuel. Right now, new FanDuel customers can get $200 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins. Well, the the first eight minutes could not have gone any worse for the Dallas Stars and head coach Pete Dbor. Maverick Bourc who checked back into the lineup for the first time since game four against Colorado takes a high sticking minor penalty a minute and 47 seconds in and then it’s Cory Perry who was left all alone in front on the power play setup by Connor McDavid is able to deflect one past Jakeer and the Oilers were off and running and it just snowballed from there uh About 6 minutes later, it’s Matias Yanmark on a breakaway. The Stars got caught in a really bad change. A great pass by Walman. Then Yanmark is able to bury it through the legs of Aer for a two nothing Edmonton lead. And everybody in the building was shocked. Everybody on the Stars bench was shocked. And head coach Pete Dbor made a ballsy ballsy decision to pull Jay Gottinger. And we have to stay on on that topic for a bit. Look, that is not a move I would have made as the Dallas Stars head coach. That is a very, very ballsy play by Pete Dbor. And I would not have made that decision, but I liked it. I I really did. The the stars came out with no juice. They came out with no intensity. and they needed to be shook up. And it it’s a ballsy ballsy move to do that in an elimination game to take your number one net minder out of the crease. But I didn’t mind it. And hindsight is always 2020 and you’ll hear some fans say, “Well, he would have stopped the McDavid breakaway and all that.” And look, that that is a is a fair point. But Petore had to make a decision. he had to change something. And one of the ways you can do that as a head coach in a game is pull your goalender. And it is a decision that you have to live by. And you may have to take a take a sword in in the chest for for doing it. You’re going to have to fall in the sword possibly. But I I thought it was I thought it was the right move. It looked awful right away since a minute later uh Casey De Smith uh gave up the the third goal for Edmonton in the first 8 minutes and 7 seconds as Jeff Skinner was hunting around sniffing around in front and buries it. But I don’t put that a lot on to Smith. The Stars had four bodies in front of Smith. Find a way find a way to to clear out. Find a way to get that puck off his stick. But Petravic and Bishell got sucked over onto one side of the ice and then they’re scampering back in front and Skinner is able to fire it through a sea of bodies. Um the first power play goal for Dallas um or the first power play goal that the Stars surrendered is just really poor defending. I I I don’t even know whether to blame Lindell or or Cece. They both were just kind of caught in no man’s land. I don’t know who’s at fault here, but you can’t leave Corey Perry wide open in front of the net. And he and it was the same thing we saw in in game four, right? The same thing with him just wide open and essentially gets a tap in. Uh the the Yanmar goal uh the breakaway. I I I have to put that on Harley to some degree. I I know Lindell was the the guy that was scampering out and Cece was there too, but I chock that up to a pretty bad change from Dallas and Harley was the strong side defenseman there. He has to notice Walman has the puck and Harley can’t change there. That’s just a bad change by Dallas. And I know CC and Lindell were were on the the sheet for for the Yanmar tally, but it’s a really really bad really bad change from Dallas. Harley’s the last defenseman. Um he’s on the strong side there. He can’t leave that. And then Halman hits Arvvinson. Um and then and then Yammark gets behind Lindell. Um look uh it I think it’s a it’s a bad change and it wasn’t well played by Lindell or CC either. Um, it’s not all on Harley, but I I didn’t like the change there because it it just it gave Edmonton a chance to counter and um and that first that first eight minutes just really really did the stars in and and I applaud Dallas for the effort they gave tonight. They they played with some pride and and credit to Jason Robertson, man. He he came alive in this series. He scores two goals uh again tonight. seems to be the one constant factor in these Western Conference final losses. Um they can rely on him to to score some and it was great for for him to get on the board again and Dallas made it interesting at points. They got within one a few times and then boom, Edmonton when they needed it. Conor McDavid breakaway goal and then the fortunate bounce off the skate of Lindell as Kane was trying to feed a pass to uh to the slot. And even McDavid’s goal, it’s a shot that gets blocked and propels 20 feet or 20. Yeah, basically 20 yards back to center ice and McDavid’s all alone on a breakaway. And it’s sort of story of the series. But when when you trail by three right away, um it it makes the margins very slim and if you don’t get a few bounces here and there, it makes it really really hard to come back. And and that was basically the case. And when when Edmonton was taking on water and they need a response, boom, they got it. As soon as Dallas got within reach, boom, the the the Oilers were able to respond. And that’s sort of been the the the series for Dallas in a lot of ways. And again, I I applaud Dallas for their effort to make it interesting at points. And there was a lot of good stuff. I I thought we saw some some really strong games, maybe some of the best games out of some individuals. Johnston, even Ben was noticeable tonight. Um, and there’s some others you could throw in there, but um, you know, it’s it’s game five and you’re down 3-1. That hurts. It it it was it was great to see, but too little too late for for the Stars to play with that level of intensity, right? They they needed that from the Well, they needed that from the start of tonight’s game and they needed it a lot earlier in the in the series. just um a really really depressing depressing depressing defeat by Dallas. And once again um just uh another sad ending in a lot of ways. It was a great season, but again in a third period when Dallas needed it. Only four shots on goal. Only four shots on goal. And and credit to Edmonton, they were the better team in the series. They they outplayed Dallas the entire the entire series and if it wasn’t for the the power play coming up ginormous in game one, Dallas would not even have made it to to game five. Credit to to the Oilers who were a phenomenal team. They got the best player on the planet who is on a revenge tour. He is as good as it comes. He showed it again tonight and he is on a on a mission to win a Stanley Cup and I I wish him best in his efforts. He um he was excellent at um at all points in this series uh against Dallas who just failed to show up in the first eight minutes. And man, if if we got a little of what we saw from maybe the the second period on or the 8 minute mark of the first period on, you know, maybe we’re talking about the Stars extending their their season a bit, but um again, just sort of um a really soft um just really non non-existent showing in the first eight minutes of the hockey game. It was just it was just nothing. It was it was a big bag of nothing from from Dallas. And I mentioned after game four, I I used the phrase mental toughness and uh that they they were soft a bit and that was probably a bit unfair. Look, I was frustrated as all Stars fans are and um I was more probably just expressing my my frustrations and I don’t think that the Stars are soft by um any degree. They they played hard tonight, but where I was trying to get at is they just have to play a a tougher brand of hockey against uh against the Oilers or at this point in the season. they just have to play a tougher brand and their their approach going into some of these games just I I don’t think was a recipe for success and it also didn’t help that they just continually put themselves behind the eightball and we’ll get to some of that where it went wrong in this series where the stars are going to have to improve on this upcoming year and sort of a bow tie on what this season was and we’ll do that in just a So, where it went wrong for for Dallas in the series and and tonight was I I I think tonight was sort of a a perfect of example of of what we saw. The the Stars were scored on first in every game in the series. They they trailed right away for the most part in all five games. And I think a large part of that is reflected on on Pete Dbor. And I think that’s why he made that really tough decision to pulling because he he needed to make a desperate call. And and again, I I back him up on on the on the decision to to pull Otter. It’s not an indictment on Jake, by the way. I I I want to make that clear. But also, Steuart Skinner outplayed Jakeer in this series. he um he was outplayed. I I don’t think that can be denied and that was uh another reason why Dallas did not put up much of a fight in this series. I’ll also say the Stars didn’t properly test Skinner enough until really tonight. the first time in the series here this evening. It felt like Dallas finally got Skinner scrambling a bit and you saw him out of his crease a few times overexaggerating trying to stay with the the course of play and we saw that perfectly on the rope hence power play goal to make it 3-2 at that time in the second period. Dallas finally got Skinner leaning and moving as as as we saw in the first, you know, four games. Skinner was able to square up, make a stop, and it was a lot of one and done for for Dallas. There was finally some second chance opportunities for the Stars tonight, and they finally properly tested Skinner a bit, but at the same time, Otter was outplayed and that was uh a factor in the series that um did did not help Dallas. the the scoring the offense is is well documented. I mean, not a single even strength point in the postseason for Matt Duchain. Um my goodness, after he just led the Stars in scoring, that is that is tough. That is a tough way to live. Great puck possession. I I guess you see I’m almost speechless to to to even find words to describe what we saw out of Duchane for most of this series. And he he’s great with the puck on his stick. And I enjoy watching him do spin cycles and and and trying to lose defenders, but it never materialized in much. It it never ended up with quality shots or quality chances. and and Rantin. Um I I don’t think Rantin was the problem for Dallas in the series, but um we we didn’t get anything out of him in this in this one either. Um just just nothing in this series from from from Mo. Um just I mean no goals. Um like that that didn’t help. But I mean you could say that about so many uh you could say that about almost the entire lineup, right? Um, and we we’ve we’ve touched on the offense so much. I I think we can kind of leave it at that point. Um the big moments too in this series, Edmonton showed up every time and and outside of the the game one power play, special teams power play for Dallas, man, Dallas just could not seem to hold on to momentum for large stretches. Whenever it felt like, okay, here we go, Stars are about to make a run, Edmonton responded. And we saw that what two or three times to tonight in game five. every time Dallas got sniffed sniffed around, tried to make it a close game, boom, Edmonton showed up and um just really, really, really frustrating from uh really frustrating from that side of things that it just felt like Dallas could not respond when they when they needed to and they just they they didn’t make um they didn’t make the proper adjustments against Edmonton. in this series. And I I kind of want to go back to the the soft mental toughness. And look, I I think the the word soft kind of sounds derogatory. I I I truly don’t mean it in that way, but uh something I applauded and and and and we’re probably going to kick ourselves because we’re going to watch another rematch between Florida and Edmonton. And if if you recall some of you everydayers out there of locked on stars, you you recall me a lot in the offseason talking about the way Florida went after Conor McDavid in company last season and the Stanley Cup final. Just completely went after bullied him and made his life a living hell. Once again, we didn’t see that from Dallas. They just made life way too easy for McDavid and Dry Sidle. And they’re going to score. They’re going to get opportunities. They’re going to get their points. They’re amazing players. But Dallas didn’t go out of their way to to try to rough him up or try to get in his face and and make it tough. And if you recall, even they they did that pretty well against one player in particular, Nathan McKinnon in round one. And it’s completely different animal. McDavid is even a level above McKinnon. And that’s saying something. But if you recall the way I applauded Dallas for being physical and going after Nathan McKinnon with the the cross checks in tight when McKinnon was in front of the net, stars were there. They were giving him bumps and bruises. And you have to do that against phenomenal players to let them know you were there. And I think and and look, we may not see that, but look, we’ll we’ll see a completely different approach to the way Florida goes about McDavid and Dryidle and about a week here. And again, we’re going to be sitting here saying, why couldn’t Dallas do some of that? And also, I’ll I’ll I’ll say this. The Stars are not the Florida Panthers. They’re not built like that. We we wish they were, but they’re not. That’s just not their game, unfortunately. But that’s what makes the Panthers successful, and you need some of that in your DNA. And outside of really tonight when started to feel like Dallas was playing with a lot of energy, intensity, and I mean, Bisel had a couple of big hits. The the crowd was awesome. By the way, shout out to Stars fans everywhere. Um, I I think Stars fans have a big reason to do with with what Dallas was able to muster up tonight. Um, it just felt like Stars fans in that building were willing Dallas back into the game. So, shout out to you guys. I I I think that was um a key fact. I really do. I I think that really helped spur spur uh spur Dallas on and um and and and gave it a run. But they just they didn’t they didn’t go into the series with the with the right mentality I think uh against M McDavid and they allowed him to just sort of do what he wanted and when when that happens it’s um it’s a tough way to live and the stars have to swallow that pill for the second straight season and uh you know there was a lot a lot that went wrong. there was a lot that went wrong in in the season. Um it’s it it look I I’ll I’ll say it too. It it’s not because Dallas is a quote unquote soft team. Um look, they they’ve they’ve made it to three straight Western Conference final. They went through a lot of adversity this season, but I I still stand by it to some degree. I I don’t think they they played a very tough series. Um and and and maybe that’s not mentally, but physically they didn’t play a tough series. They didn’t play tough enough against Skinner. Um you’re right. I I just I think there’s there’s a lot of things to dissect. Um and a lot of stars failed in this series up and down the lineup. The offense Otter wasn’t particularly great. Pete Debor didn’t have a great series. Um just a lot of things went bad and sort of goes to a point I made after game 42. A lot of the stuff Dallas did well in rounds one and two just completely eluded them here in this series. But um but that’s how it goes sometimes. And and yeah, you could say it was unsustainable and and maybe it was um through the first two rounds, but hey, it was it was working and it was clicking and um you can’t apologize for that. But when they needed to take it to another level, they just weren’t able to do it. and and and Edmonton, I think, outclassed Dallas in a lot in in in a lot of areas in a lot of areas in in this series and and credit to them. A better team, they deserved it. Um I I don’t think that’s uh uh very much in question after um they they take care of business um in five games against Dallas. Well, we’ll um we’ll get into some of the tough decisions upcoming because this offseason is going to be rather interesting and um it may be quite a different looking team come next September. Who knows? Maybe nothing will change. But uh there’s some tough decisions and questions I think GM Jim Nil is going to have to make. We’ll discuss some of those and and touch on that in just a moment. So, we’ll we’ll we’ll start here because I I think this is also uh a point that can somewhat tie back into where things went wrong, the physicality narrative or or the the grit narrative. And look, I I don’t disagree with a lot of Stars fans. Dallas has to play more physical and and play more tough. But look at um look at the contrasting moves between let’s the Oilers in Dallas here. The Stars in the offseason they go get Matt Dumba Leouchkin and then at the trade deadline they get Cody Cece. Not not puck moving defenseman. They’re more stay-at-home guys. They play with grit. They play physical, good on the PK, right? Those are how you would sort of describe those three. And look at Edmonton, Jake Walman, and they go out and get Clingberg, right? Two guys that for what, you know, look, they they may have some weaknesses defensively like like a Clingberg who was who was phenomenal in the series. Clingberg looked really good. Um but but look at Clingbury Wallet guys that maybe more offensively inclined, good speed, um they’re mobile and they can move the puck, which is also uh a way that will help you generate offense. And we we talk about the Stars struggling offensively. If maybe they had some more puck moving defenseman, it may allow Dallas to get out off and and create some rush chances a bit more. Gosh, they didn’t have anything off the rush in this series, it felt like. But look at the two contrasting differences of of the the players that Dallas went out and got. And and look, I I’m I’m not this isn’t, you know, Jim Nil was awful, but um he’s he’s got this team built to get back to another Western Conference final, but CC wasn’t great and Labouchkin and Dumba were watching in the press box the last few games. That’s that’s not very good. and Walman and Clingberg were very key contributing players in this series uh against Dallas. And yeah, they they may not be the most wonderful defensively, but they played well enough, but they’re skillful, they’re skilled, and they can make plays. And in today’s NHL, you have to have defenseman like that. and Dallas went to grab the physical stay-at-home guys and um they had they had some good good points during the regular season. Um but at the end of the day at this time of year you need guys like Wman and Clingberg over guys like Dumba Labouchkin and Cody Cece. I um those are decisions that just fell flat on their face and um looking back just weren’t weren’t positive for for Dallas to they they weren’t let maybe not positive they weren’t the necessary moves to get over the hump. I think I think that was that was pretty clear. now Pete Dbor, right? And uh a lot of Stars fans want him gone and um I I uh I understand that in a lot of ways. Um look, I think Dbor has probably bought himself another year. The reason I’m I’m hesitant and I and I will live with with Pete Dbor another year is I don’t know what the other options are out there. Um, there’s not any that just scream to me, oh, the stars need to go get this guy. You’re gonna have to offer up a really good solution or uh yeah, you’re going to have to offer me up a really solid replacement for me to be to jump on board with firing Petore. Um, I think he has to be accountable for a lot that took place in the series, especially tonight. Like not having your team ready to play in the first eight minutes in a must-win game, that falls back on the head coach whether you like it or not. Um, it it falls back on you. But I’m okay with Pete Dbor another year unless you can offer me up maybe a replacement that you feel is better. I just don’t know if that’s out there. And I I I I don’t want to be harsh and make a a hasty decision emotionally right off the back of uh off of a really emotional series, an emotional letdown like this was. So that’s sort of where I am on Pete Dabbor. But he deser he deserves a lot um deserves uh a lot of of accountability and deserves a lot of um I I I think of the responsibility to to why Dallas uh lost in in in this series. Um I I just I think it’s going to be tough and I don’t believe I’ll say this my my prediction is he probably comes back. I’m I I I I would say he probably doesn’t he probably doesn’t get fired. I I think Jim Niel is gonna rock along with him. Um, again, and and I’m okay with that. Um, and I know a lot of others uh won’t be that way and and and I and I I certainly understand that point of view. Uh, I I really really do. Um, okay. Now, we got through the coaching staff. Um, Jamie Ben, right? And I sort of uh sort of maybe brought this up an episode early about his future. It’s it’s going to be interesting. You know, we we’ve talked about it quite a bit. Jim Nil earlier this season said as long as he’s GM, Jamie Ben is is going to be a part of um the Dallas Stars. I I think at this point if he comes back, you sign him to a one-year veteran minimum deal. I I think that’s I I think that’s the only logical logical um and fair move or or I should say I think it’s the best move for Dallas if that’s going to be the case. Um other than that, you let him walk. I think one year veteran minimum and that’s kind of what you live with and if he walks he walks but you just you you can’t have him like we saw again he’s now going to be he’s 35 and just he didn’t even seem to be a um uh like it it didn’t feel like they were rallying behind Jaime Ben like we usually see a lot of um like we usually see a lot of at this time of year, right? Whe whether he takes dumb penalties or not, like even against that Vegas series where he cross checked Mark Stone in some of that, like there just wasn’t even a hint of of of some of that in his game. And you just you can’t have that from from your leader. Um, I I’m not against having Jamie Ben around next year, but I I think it’s it’s a veteran minimum deal, and that’s where you go. Um, Duchain, look, it’s the second postseason. He just gives you nothing. Um, if if I’m Dallas, you spend a lot more time trying to resign Maverick Fork than trying to to bring back Matt Duchain or Jaime Ben. Maverick Bourc is is younger. He um he’s your first round draft pick. He’s 23 and you’re going to need him to be a big part of your of your of your lineup moving forward. And we we were hoping the jump was going to be this season. We we didn’t quite maybe get what we were expecting, but he’s still young and he can he can slide in next season maybe with a bit of a more elevated role with an off season under his belt, a full year of NHL hockey under his belt and you go from there. I think you spent a lot more time trying to resign him than Jaime Ben or or Matt Duchain because Bourke is going to be a lot more uh a lot more inte uh integral to this Stars lineup moving forward. Uh Granlin is a UFA. Um I would sort of I would try to find a way to give him sort of what Duchain has got gotten right. One year, three million, keep him around. I I love Gran. think he could be a a great addition um again in Dallas next season if you can keep him. Um Donov was interesting man um that he didn’t play the last two games. I wonder if he was maybe hurt to some degree just because Dbor trust him so enough trust him so much. Stars were struggling to score. He had 20 plus goals this season and he wasn’t in your lineup was a bit interesting. So, we’ll have to to keep an eye out on on what comes out uh about him. That that’s for sure. Um but man, um a lot of a lot of interesting decisions upcoming with Dbor. You know, maybe Jim Nil is is is fed up, right? Maybe he’s fed up and he’s not happy and he wants to go out and add a different coach because he doesn’t believe Dbor can get it done. Um, Dbor said after the game, by the way, I didn’t blame it uh I didn’t blame it at all on Jake, but the reality is you go back to last year’s playoffs, he’s lost six of seven games to Edmonton, and we give up two goals on two shots in an elimination game. That’s uh a pretty big sample size. Um, I don’t I don’t love the answer. I I really don’t. I think that’s putting quite a bit on um I think that’s putting a lot on Jake who was a big part of why you got to that point and think that’s sort of throwing Jake under the bus a bit with that answer. Um maybe maybe I’m reading that wrong. And again, this is an an X. Um I I’d have to see it in the um I’d have to to to hear it his tone and everything. And um but again, I I wasn’t mad with the move, but I think he could have maybe come to come to a bat with for Jake. Um and and look, I again, I don’t think Jake was was great a lot in this series, but give me a break on the first two goals. Cory Perry wide open in front on a power play and Yanmark breakaway. Give me a break. That’s not your goalender’s fault. Um you’re it’s it’s it’s your fault for your team coming out and playing like absolute crap in front of them. Okay, Pete. Um, you should you should I think that frustrates me that that quote a bit. Um, that really does irritate me. Um, and and again, I don’t have the tone in context, but I think he should have gone to bat. And I know he said he didn’t blame it on Jake, but um, to kind of be like, well, he’s lost six of seven and well, yeah, well, the team has been pretty awful in front of him to some degree. So, um, anyways, we’ll we’ll have a we’ll have a lot of time to dissect that quote and more, but h just um just sad. And and again, I think we’ll kind of leave it with this. It’s just um the year was a bust in a lot of ways. It it was a bust. this this Stars team trying to win a Stanley Cup and that’s where they are and um they they didn’t reach that goal and it’s um it’s not good enough. Um, and this year in a lot of ways was uh was a bust, but I I give Dallas a lot of credit and the Stars had a lot of adversity and they did an excellent job of wavering through that throughout the regular season. And to make it at this point is always hard. Let’s let’s get that straight, too. Let’s not get it twisted. They were one of the four teams remaining. That is uh a great achievement, but it’s not good enough for for where this team for this for where this team wants to be and and that is lifting the cup at the end of the season. Just um a weird feeling because game four felt more like the the ending to the to the season than it than it did tonight in a lot of ways. But Stars fans, I I want to thank you for for tuning in to uh to each and every episode of Locked On Stars, part locked on podcast network, your team every single day. Um, I I want the Stars to win more than anything. And I I get frustrated like you and sometimes I uh I can uh allow those uh feelings to be expressed um on this microphone. And uh whether maybe they’re wrong or not, or maybe you don’t feel they’re true or not, but uh sometimes I I just I I had to vent. I have to vent. And uh this is the platform that I’m able to do it on. And I I’m really really grateful um that I get to do this um and and grateful I’ve been able to do this the past two seasons. On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Joey Erickson reacts to the Stars losing in the Western Conference Final for the 3rd straight season. A horrific start led to the Stars trailing 3-0 in the first 8 minutes of the game and it was too big of a whole to climb despite a two goal performance from Jason Robertson. Joey shares his thoughts on Pete DeBoer’s decision to pull Jake Oettinger after giving up two goals on the first two shots to put Casey DeSmith in net. In the next segment, Joey highlights where things went wrong for Dallas in the series and once again why they were unable to get over the hump. To finish, we look ahead at some of the decisions in the offseason including Pete DeBoer, Jamie Benn and other futures that are uncertain.

A point I forgot to make on DeBoer: although I may disagree he should be fired, Jim Nill has to at least entertain the option and see whats out there.
P.S. I hate DeBoer's comment after the game on Oettinger more and more
I think you had the better, deeper team. I watched the games and it seemed to me that your team had too many mental mistakes that were out of character. Blues fan that was rooting for you.
The issue is we dont hit and punish the enemy. We need tougher big defenders like lian bishel. Hes a beast. Petrocic also needs to be on the regular season roster. Hes very seasoned and makes great passes
Best of luck next season for your Stars. If the Oilers are to lose to anyone in the west, I'd be most ok with it being Dallas.
I am a oilers fan
But I also love your channel
We support our fav team it is very normal but I think it is some room to discuss hockey stuffs
While not phrased well a simple fact is as goalie he let in way too many goals all series and he does have an atrocious record in the postseason vs Edmonton. As coach I may start to wonder where my goalies head is at and a change may be in order.
Sorry, but I believe truth be told you can’t blame Dallas. You can’t blame Vegas can’t blame LA. They were all stepping stones to get what Edmonton wanted, and that was revenge for last year‘s debacle with the Stanley Cup finals and the mismanagement of the media to make McDavid look like he was weak… He is not…. Sorry, but all the other teams are just in the way. OILERS WERE PRAYING FOR THE PANTHERS REMATCH.. Oilers plan is to destroy that team
Otter didn't want to miss his Saturday tee time
I’m an Oilers fan, but immense respect for Otter. He tried, and it felt like he was collateral. You could see he felt dejected after being pulled 😢
Thanks Joey 🫡
It’s not all on Otter, gotta have defensive help in front. Dallas needs to show some grit in front of the net, clear opposing players. IMHO
Ottenger gone…he couldn't hold Eddie the Eagles jock!!! Benn gone not a leader ben stealing money for a long time. Seguin gone!!! Stealing money for years…Marchant gone Robertson just a girl..gome…Duchess gone……all the gutless Cowards gone!!!!!
AVS fan here, just to help you out, we put a curse on M Duchene, so if you want a SC trade him, just trying to help you out here
The no response to the Hintz chop and subsequent tap told me everything that I needed to know about this team.
I get it that u don’t want to take stupid penalties…oh wait…did anyway…but how does Jamie Benn or Bichsel or Petrovic not drop the gloves on Nurse or Douchard ?(not a typo). They should’ve had their teeth kicked in for that!! This is what you think of your first line, world class center?
If anybody even looked at Mo the wrong way, Hatcher was handling it. Brendan Morrow handled it. Where was the captain? This team has taken on the coaches’ personality and it’s lame. DeBoer teams are always the bridesmaid, never the bride. We need a Paul Maurice.
Congrats Oil, but I’m not pulling for ya. Not sour grapes, I just think FLA is repeating. Keeping the cup stateside. U S A!!!
Debor was right … ottinger hasn’t stolen a series since he arrived, last time I checked otter is a great goalie but to achieve greatness it starts with the goalie! I’ve been a stars fan since 1976 … please don’t lecture me about our coaches actions regarding otter . No other choice period. Most fans don’t understands the game . Ben was liable this series and another series in the last few years.
Don’t know really what to think till training camp
I can't see Dallas ever beating the Oilers or the Golden Knights while running a man to man defensive system. The Oilers were running it under Woodcroft and the Knights victimized them. I think Manson's commitment to it is what got him and Woodcroft fired last year as much as the bad start.
Winning playoff hockey you lock down the middle of the ice and protect the net front or your goalie doesn't have a chance. Oettinger was the only reason that it wasn't a blowout every game.
Dallas looks to have a decent core of players, but you've got a coach that refuses to make in round adjustments clinging to a system that doesn't work while blaming everyone but himself for his failings.
The coach team and fans of Dallas are class all the way. I am an oilers fan and have mad respect for them all. Very talented team. They had a great year!!
I genuinely believe you have a bright future ahead of you Joey in this line of work. Keep up the hard work we appreciate it
o7 to the Dallas fans, great bunch and you have some amazing Warriors down there on Ice, I always try to catch the home games up here when the Stars are in town. Looking forward to the games next year and thanks for the great round, I grew up when the Oilers kept getting beat out of the playoffs by the Minnesota North Stars so this has been a long time coming, you’ll get your day, trust. Keep cheering for the boys and be supportive. Cheers
Next Man Up, on YT did a great vid called "This is how you get fired in the NHL" over 56,000 views, and I think he's bang on. One of the things that bothers me most, is the fact that there wasn't one Defenceman around to help Otter on those first two goals. It's cost us wins in the regular season and has bothered me a few times because it was noticeable, yet never mentioned. My guess is because the D are scoring goals too. In my opinion, I believe the Defensemen should be accountable too.
Oilers benefitted from two stupid coach moves this playoffs. Hiller in LA and the Dumbheads Otter pull.
Spot on takes, Joey. Always good to hear your perspective esp since you're actually a fan unlike some of the other podcasts.
Oilers fan here. Oettinger's not an area I think needs upgrading. Probably 25 of the teams in the NHL would love to have him, including the Oilers if he could fit in our cap. The Oilers are shooting at a 13.2% success rate in these playoffs, so if my math is right that means opposing goalies (Oettinger, Kuemper of the Kings (who had a sensational year), and Adin Hill) are averaging a very mediocre 0.868 against them. McDavid and Draisaitl-led scoring chances are better than average NHL scoring chances.
People have to calm down when it comes to blaiming Otter, or other goalies, for not being good enough to help their teams win the Stanley Cup. Probably nobody thinks that Antti Niemi, Darcy Kuemper and Jordan Binnington are better goalies than Carey Price, Henrik Lundqvist, Miikka Kiprusoff and Pekka Rinne were. Still Niemi, Kuemper and Binnington won the cup whereas Price, Lundqvist, Kiprusoff and Rinne didn´t. We also have to remember that not many years ago almost every hockey follower in the world thought that the Panthers had made a fool of themselves with the ridiculous Bobrovsky deal. Who honestly thought 3 years ago that Bobrovsky would ever win the cup? But right now I don´t hear anybody complaining about Bobrovsky. Stick to your guns!
