Now, more BL from the visiting manager’s office at Lone Depot Park, deep within the catacombs of this ballpark in Miami. Do you know, do they tell you is the roof going to be open or closed tonight? I’ve never played here when it’s been open, so I’m guessing it’s going to be closed. Yesterday on the off day, it was pretty hot out there. So, I think everybody’s probably hoping that it’s closed, but I I’ve heard they’ve played with it open a little bit this year. I think that’s yet to be determined. All right. And that that might be a new thing this year that that it has been open quite a bit. But uh uh my little Weather Channel app, I was out and about about 1:00 said it was 88Β° feels like 94 was the report on that. So it’s South Florida, kind of a a tropical climate and hot and humid. You know what? In the summer in baseball, sometimes you get hot and humid and you just that’s what you deal with. So, I I’m not really sure what they’re going to do as far as the the roofs open or closed, but you play in Cincinnati and, you know, anywhere really in the East Coast in the summer, it’s going to be humid. You that’s what baseball’s all about. So, we’ll see. We’ll see where that goes. All right. So, uh uh might be a little more fun with the It looks a little nicer when the roof is open here. I can tell you that. Than that sort of that dank, dark uh kind of almost depressing look when the roof is closed all the time. Now, Kyle Harrison on the mound and uh how far might he be able to go in this game? Yeah, it was more like 60 pitches last time. So, you you increase that maybe 15 or 20 depending on how he’s feeling and how many time how many innings he goes, but we’ll increase it a little bit. I know. Look, he he wants to go out there and throw a full compliment this time. It won’t be that, but you know, we can we can send him out there a little bit bit longer. Our bullpen’s going to be in good shape after an off day, so we’ll see how it goes. But Kyle’s always up for anything. All right. Now, uh, the the Marlins, uh, I mean, they have some some some lefties, but I think you you were talking about just the one is in the lineup, uh, today against, uh, Cal Quantrol, and one of your lefties who’s usually in there against right-handed pitching will not be in there today, Lamont Way Jr., what’s going on there? Yeah, look, we’re trying to get Smitty some at bats, too. He swung the bat pretty well when he’s been here, and the the splits are pretty significant today. They’ve always kind of been that way with with Quantrol. Uh, I think the righties are hitting like 380 and the and the lefties are hitting 200 or something like that. So, we’ll get one more right-handed bat in there. When it goes to relievers potentially, you could see Wade come off the bench. He’s he’s, you know, been he’s done that quite a bit before. But, you know, a little bit of a two reasons. One, we want to get Schmidy some at bats. And two, the splits would suggest a few more righties today. And for the Giants, a big finish here in this road trip would would be welcome. It would. It wasn’t our best series in Detroit. felt like anything could go wrong in that series did. So, I’m glad we got an off day. We’ll move on to a new city and go from there. But, uh, it is it’s been quite the road trip this this far and and we’d like to end it on a good note. So, here we go. Giants Marlins on the radio and that’s the Bob Melvin show for today. It’s been the Bob Melvin show. We play good defense. We pitch. We execute. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is ao taco. Do you know what it means? sometimes a catcher. He’s the DH tonight and hitting lead off. Eberto Hernandez just called up today in left field batting second. Eric Wagaman at first base, he hits third. Otto Lopez, a former Giant is at shortstop hitting cleanup. Dane Meyers in center field bats fifth. Conor Norby, third baseman and sixth place hitter. Kyle Sters, in a lot of ways he’s been their best guy, left-handed hitter in right field hitting seventh. Javier Senoa at second base batting eighth. And Nick Forez is doing the catching. He bats ninth. The pitcher for Miami right-hander Calantrol. He has pitched plenty in his career against the Giants, including last year with the Rockies, and actually pitched very well both times against the Giants last season. So he’ll start for Miami 3 and four with a 609 earn run average. Overall numbers not great for Quantrol. A message sponsored by Walkup Personal Injury Law. Justice takes more than a fighter. Alex Tosi at second. And the crew chief is Ron Copa. He’s the umpire at third. We’re ready to go. Calantrol on the mound. Mike Ystreky the hitter. And for tonight’s first pitch, here’s John Miller. Dave, thank you. Quantrol, 30-year-old right-hander delivers and a fast ball is a little bit off the outside up around the belt. Ball one. So, we are underway here in Miami. He has a left-handed hitter infield playing him to pull the pitch, swing, and he hits a highf fly ball into center. Just waiting for it is Meyers. And that that one came right to him. He’d never had to move. And he’s got a big smile on his face as he throws it back in. One away. And here comes Elliot Ramos. Ramos 288 average, 10 home runs, and he takes off the inside at 94 milesPH. Now, right-handed hitters have hit a lot better so far this year against Quantrol than had the lefties. And man, that’s not even close. He winds, delivers, and that is a called strike. Fast ball right in there at 93. One ball and one strike. Quantrol who throws a cutter. Here’s the pitch. Comes in. Swing and a drive down the right field line. Slicing toward the corner on the run. Sters. He goes into a dive and he can’t get it. It skips by him into the right field corner. He has to go in and dig it out. Ramos around second heading for third. Here comes the relay. It goes right by the third baseman and hits the sidewall. Backed up finally by Quantrol on the carum. A triple for Elliot Ramos. And that throw I think they had a good chance to get him at third base. I don’t know how you saw it, Dave, but they had the throw been there, it had been caught by the third baseman, but I think Elliot might well have been out. I I thought he was going to be out and now the Giants are saying that he’s okay, but he definitely jammed a finger with that head first slide into third. He was wincing big time. So hopefully he’s all right. He’s staying in the game for now, but that is not great. Well, as he just looking at a replay of it as he made the dive here now is Jung Hulu Lee. The infield comes in with one out and Lee fouls one back to the screen and he got a slow curve ball and he lunged at it. A ball ended up down on the outside and it’s 0 and one. So a great opportunity for the Giants to jump ahead. Looked like when he made the headlong dive into third, his hand hit the shoe of the third baseman Norby. One strike to count. Quantrol throws and a fast ball is well off the outside for a ball. Well, hopefully Elliot is okay. He’s been the Giants’s best hitter on this trip and really so far in the early season. One-1 pitch swing and a foul tip. That was a cutter and it was up and he swung mightily and the helmet popped right off his head. And the count is one and two. Quanker wants a strike out here. And he’s facing a lefty. And that’s where he’s had his best success for the season, but he per se is not a big strikeout guy. 44 in the third innings and only 31 strikeouts for the season. Opened up stance. Standing in the left-handed hitter, Lee. The pitch way outside with the splitter. Missed badly with that one. Two and two. The count. Around the infield, the Marlins with Wagaman at first, Senoa at second, Lopez the shorts stop, Norby at third, Hernandez in left, Meyers in center, Sters in right. Two two pitch and that is way off the outside with another splitter. So he’s tried a couple of splitters here going for that strikeout and he’s missed badly with each of them. Now it’s a full count. Right-handed hitting Wilmer Flores on deck. Quantrol throws swing and a foul off to the left. We asked Bob Melvin if he had a theory on why Quantrol has been so much better against the lefties than righties. I think it’s the cutter to the lefties that he throws quite a bit. The cutter in to the lefties that that a lot of times you see kind of right-handed pitchers who do have reverse splits throw a lot of cutters to the lefties. Now he delivers and that’s a sinker that runs off the outside. the swinging strike three. So he wanted to strike out and he got it and he’s faced three hitters and perhaps not so coincidentally he has retired the two lefties and the one righty that he has faced hit a triple against him. Now, here’s another right-handed hitter, Wilmer Flores, the Giants RBI leader. The infield drops back. Normal depth now. Second baseman, Senoa, well over toward the middle. The pitch high and tight spinning Wilmer out of there. Ball one. Flores. 10 home runs and 45 driven in for the year. One of the leaders in the majors in that category. Here’s Quantrol at the belt throwing and that just wow that’s a that’s a low strike on the inside with a sinker one ball one strike and not a good pitch to hit if you’re willmer working off the first base edge of the slab throws and that is called a ball right at the knees a slider he did not get the call on that one two and one the Two down. Ramos the runner at third. Here’s the pitch. Swing and then rip foul past third and down the left field line. Low liner that hit the ground and then deflected off the sidewall. Check of who’s on. Sponsored by Timberch. Timber decking and railing. Everything wood should be. Visit timbert.com. Chapman on deck. The pitch now. Wilmer takes too high. A check swing and appeal. First base umpire. Para says no. And it’s a three and two count. 344 down the left field line in this ballpark. 400 to straightaway center. Three and two with two down. The pitch swinging a foul back to the screen. I can’t see into that right field corner. So, I’m not exactly sure what the dimensions are in the right field corner here. Usually, you don’t have to look that up. You just look out on the on the the fence and you see him. But, we can’t see that one. 387 to right center. And it’s not listed in left center, but a little bit shallower in left center than right center. Ray and Tun to Wilmer Flores trying to put the Giants ahead with two down the pitch. Owled back to the screen. That was a high slider up around the lettering on his shirt. Right-handed hitters are hitting 384 for the year as a group against Quantrol. Lefties are hitting only 209. This is a right-handed hitter. The pitch to Wilmer. A high foul off to the left. That will go back out of play. Was a sinker. So Wilmer giving quite a battle here. This will be the ninth pitch of the atbat. We’ve seen sinkers, sliders, and that’s it so far. Quantrol again. Sacks, throws, swing, a live drive down the right field line. Foul. Bloomer got a cutter that time and he tried to work that cutter back to the inside corner. Bloomer just even though the ball looked, I’m sure like a ball to him on the way in, was able to fight it off. 10th pitch of the bat. Here it comes. Swing and he hammers one high and very much fouled off the left field line and into the upper deck. Third deck here at Lone Depot Park. the home of the Marlins. Now the 11th pitch again. Quantrol sacks the pitch. Swing line drive up the middle. Base hit center field. Wow. Wilmer Flores. What an at bat that was. Which we could have said so many different times this year. And Ramos comes in to score. the first run of the game. One to nothing Giants. And he got a tough pitch. He went down and kind of dug out a low slider that might have been below the knees. There’s like a half swing and then there’s that. That was like a third of a swing. 46th RBI for Wilmer. Now here is Chapman. He takes a curve over the inside for a called strike. He’s amazing. He’s had so many of those kind of at bats this year, especially seems like lately. Amazing. He’s the man you want to have up there in that kind of a spot. Two down, runner at first, the pitch. Chapman bounces a foul. He got a cutter on the outside and he chased it. Not a good pitch to hit and now he’s behind 0 and two. Wilmer in the National League. Only Seiya Suzuki and Pete Pro Armstrong, both of the Cubs are ahead of him. Devers of the Red Sox and Aaron Judge of the Yankees in the American League are ahead of him. No, there’s a pitch high and tighter that he hits. Jabbing. I hope he’s okay. That was a splitter, man. He’s He’s throwing a splitter like he just learned that pitch a couple hours ago. He He has not come close to controlling one yet. And that’s right where they went when he was throwing them to the left-handed hitters. Now, when he hit Chapman in the upper left arm, I think between the U Well, let’s see. looking at the television replay. Got him on the left forearm just beneath the elbow as he spun away. And now here is Willie Adamus and he takes one in the dirt. A slider down. The Flores moves to second. Chapman taking over at first. Could be a little bit of a break there for the Giants. The Chapman was behind no balls in two strikes when he got hit. A one pitch swing and there’s a high lazy fly. Shallow center in and under it to make the catch is Meyers. And that’s the inning. The Giants get the one run. Two men left and lead one to nothing after a half inning on the moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith courts one in right down the line. It may go. Go crazy, folks. Go crazy. It’s a home run and the Cardinals have won the game behind the three-2 and a home run by the Wizards. The next unforgettable call on the MLB app and MLB.com. The young 23-year-old to the plate and a swing by Ramirez and a highf fly ball into deep right going back isky and before he gets to the wall on the warning track makes the catch. So, Augugustine Ramirez swung at the first pitch he saw and he hit it pretty well in the right field, but just a highf fly ball in the final analysis. Wall away. The Giants defensive alignment is sponsored by Raven Law. Injured? Call the Giant Lawyer at 41588-1043 or go to the gianter.com. Kyle Harrison with Eberto Hernandez at the plate and he takes Paul one. One ball and no strikes. Here’s the pitch on the way. Powell back to the screen. The Giants with Harrison pitching. Bailey catching around the the infield. Schmidt Gerald Adamus and Chapman from first around to third. Ramos in left, Lee in center, Yas in right. Now here’s a little back door slider in for a called strike. Beauty started in like it was going to be a foot outside and then had that break at the last moment right to the edge. Now he pitches down and in with another slider and the count is two and two. That one bounced in the dirt. Marlins with Blake Lai the third base coach and Tyler Smarzlock coaching at first and there’s a ball dribbled foul off to the left Hernandez 25 years old in the Dominican Republic just brought up for the Miners today. Harland’s made several changes before the game today. Two and two pitch. Fast ball off the inside for a ball. Bouncing off the glove of Patrick Bailey. Three and two the count. Hernandez in Jacksonville. Had nine homers this year. There’s a swing. He belts one down the left field line. Hooking toward the corner and Powell hitting off the sidewall. 344 down the left field line. That one was not going to make it to the wall. Still three and two. He hit only 220 in Jacksonville in 141 at bats, but he had nine home runs and got a few walks at 319 on base average with that very low batting average as he tops this one foul. Another slider down from Kyle Harrison. Harrison 6’2 in tall winds throws and a check swing and on appeal ruled no swing by par first base up I wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d ruled a swing on that one but as it is it’s a walk and I guess that’s what the Marlins liked about him although he was hitting very poorly for an average he had some power and was getting a lot of walks So he’s at first and here is Eric Wagaman. Right-handed hitter swing and a miss. That was a good change up right on the outside at the knees. New Orleans have been out in the West Coast. They were in San Diego. Had a three-game series at Petco Park. Won the finale on Wednesday. Had the day off yesterday as did the Giants. Now there’s a ball in the dirt and they throw to first and they’ve got him picked off now. Running him towards second. Schmidt throws the ball to the second baseman, Fitzgerald, who runs him back to first, flips the ball to Schmidt, who tags him out as he made a head first dive back toward first base, but he was out by plenty. Well, Roberto Hernandez, I guess he missed the the meeting about Patrick Bailey because he was getting his secondary lead. That ball was in the dirt. Bailey picked it and Hernandez was 25 30 ft off the paddic when Bailey snapped the throw over there. Now here’s a swinging strike on a fast ball 95 miles an hour and it’s one ball and two strikes. He had gotten his secondary lead and when the ball hit the dirt he took another step towards second and he could not recover from that as the ball was dug out of the dirt cleanly by Bailey. Now the pitch ground ball to short far to his right into a slide under the outfield turf is Adamus. Here’s the long throw to first just in time to get Wagaman. Ends up being an outstanding play on a ball hit very sharply on this artificial turn. Inning over. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo. This is Giants baseball on KNBR 1045 and 680. Foul that will reach well back out of play on the third base side into the sparsely populated lower deck. Strike one. Giants forced to throw 28 pitches in that first inning. A Bailey with a check swing on a ball that’s too low. One ball and one strike. The shorts stop for the Marlins. Lopez almost up the middle. Bailey batting left-handed. Now the wind up. Here it comes. Swing and he hits a high foul off the left field line and well back out of play. Bands MLB is partnering with Crisis Text Line to increase mental health awareness. It’s free 24/7 confidential support in English and Spanish. Text MLB to 741741. Now a swing and there’s a high drive in a deep left center field. Did really well way back there. Still going and it is off the wall. Both the left fielder Hernandez and the center fielder Meyers were giving chase and it was beyond both of them and hit up off the wall out there. That’s a pretty good shot going the other way for Patrick Bailey. Got a high sinker and he really crushed it. 101 miles an hour off the bat of Patrick Bailey. Giants ahead one to nothing. Seventh double of the year for Bailey who came into the game hitting only 174. Now here’s a liner by Schmidt into right center. On the move to his left, the center fielder Myers makes the catch. Tagging up, heading for third is Bailey. Here comes the throw. It’s a perfect throw and he is out at third. Sliding feet first into the bag and he signal to the dugout, “Hey, take a look at this one. I think I was safe.” And so did Matt Williams. Matt Williams immediately did the challenge sort of signal, but they’re not going to challenge. What a throw by Meyers. It was there in plenty of time and we’re not getting a a look that we can really tell a whole lot from. The throw was there ahead of him. That’s the main thing. So, it’s a double play. Two down and nobody on. And here is Fitzgerald. Right-handed hitter and he takes a called strike. Curve ball in there. Well, it’s disappointing, but I don’t mind Patrick Bailey trying to be aggressive. It took an absolutely perfect throw, a great throw, and he was out by a few inches. Now, the pitch, and that’s too high. And we saw just another angle a moment ago that it could be that it the throw hit him on the the upper leg just a fraction of a second before his foot hit the bag. Two down. Base is empty. Now, a swing. Lie drive left center field. Base hit. That’s into the gap and it’s going to roll through to the wall all the way out there. Now to second and stopping there and I was surprised by that because he’s got such great speed but he didn’t want to make the third out at third base which probably is a you know playing it safely is is a good idea there if he if he hadn’t just watched Dane Meyers throw he might have tried it. might had a little uh recency bias. That might have been it. Man, that ball got there in a hurry. 99 mph line drive off the bat by Tyler Fitzgerald. Now the lead off Manuel Stressky and he takes a called strike with a cutter. Yas hit a fly ball to center his first time. So far the Giants righties have been true to form against Quantrol in his previous record this year. Righties are doing well against him. Now Yas takes high for a ball. Jazz have had three lefties come up. Both Yas and Lee went down in the first inning. Although Bailey hit that long double batting left-handed in this inning. Now the pitch off the outside with a splitter. That was the closest to the strike zone he’s been yet with a splitter. And it still was not a strike. Two and one. out. Schmid, by the way, who made an out in this inning. He hit his line drive at 97 mph. Oh, Yas fouls one back. That was the cutter again right in on the hands. And you may have heard the assessment of manager Bob Melvin during the first inning of his pregame show about why he’s had so much more success against lefties than righties. And he thinks it’s that cutter, especially the one in on in the hands which he just threw to Yaz. Two down, a base hit. Camino run with the speedy Fitzgerald at second. Giants ahead one to nothing. Second and a time asked for by Yaz at home plate. The stretch, the pitch outside. There’s that splitter again. And that one was foot and a half or more off the outside corner. Ray and two. Here comes Howell back to the screen. That was a high fast ball and that was up near the top of the zone. Maybe a little bit too close to take. Just trying to put him away with that high hard one. Now the stretch. Now the pitch and he fouls it off his right foot. Ouch. That was the cutter again on the hands. Three and two. So far the Giants six right-handed hitters have reached base four of their six played appearances against Control. three hits plus Chapman who got hit by the pitch. Here’s Yaz now trying to get a hit to knock in a big run. The pitch on the way. Swing and a miss. He struck it out and that was a sinker right on the outside and he had a sort of a desperation swing and he could not make contact. Couple of springs ago, Otto Lopez was in spring training with the Giants. And I remember he hit an early home run in a Cactus League game. So I tended to remember him from that one-two pitch. Just a little bit low. 96 mph fast. Two and two the count. Meyers is on deck. Dane Meyers. Here’s the pitch on the way. Ground ball right back to Harrison. He gloves it as it came right up bel. And with the playbyplay, Dave Flem. Thanks, John. One- nothing Giants. Elliot Ramos, who tripled and scored that first and only Giants run. Leading off here against Quantrol, and he hits one on the ground to second. Scooped up by Senoha, the second baseman for the Marlins. And he throws out Elliot. So, one out here in the top of the third. Bring up Jung Hu Lee. I’m trying hard not to be distracted by it’s like I’m seeing things. The the empty seats up along the left field side in the third deck. The pitch to Jung Hu is low taken for ball one. Almost looks like there’s some hanging smoke from some fireworks or whatever, but I don’t think that’s it. Maybe it’s I don’t know what it is. This place might be haunted. Now a swing and a high fly ball center field. Coming in underneath it and he will catch it. So two quick outs for Quantrol here in the third. It’s not a good look because, and that was what I thought when I first saw it, that it was some smoke, but it looks like stage cobwebs, which gives the impression that it’s so little used that it’s covered in cobwebs. Now, actually, that might be the simplest answer. over Flores takes a strike like a the the wedding party in the Dickens novel after the wedding got cancelled. Who was that? Mrs. Havsham or uh or maybe I had or probably Miss Havash. Please get the uh titles correct. Ball in the dirt to Wilmer. And now a slider drops in. I say slider. That was more like curve ball. Strike two. One and two. Anyway, it’s very strange. Wilmer, who drove in Ramos in that first inning with just another incredible atbat here. He takes high. What was it? 11 pitches in the end and an RBI hit. He just battled and battled and battled and finally just kind of a sawed off swing and punched it right up the middle to drive home Ramos. Another RBI. He’s got 46 RBI’s now. Takes this one just off the outside. Count goes full. Three and two. We got Cory Blazer’s got the almost like the perfect Stadcast strike zone going right. Three and two to Wilmer with two down to nobody on. One- nothing Giants. Cal Quantrol pitches. Flores drives this one to center field. Meyer sprinting back, but that is a big part of this ballpark. And he’ll get there and make the catch. Another ball that Wilmer hit very hard. It’s out number three. Take a hack at guessing which baseball player or man said the following. Miller and Fleming on KNBR FM and AM the sports leader. Strike one, a Kyle Harrison 95 mph fast to Kyle Sters. Last up third. Sters now asked for time. Leading off here in the third inning for the Marlins. He’s having a really good year. 10 home runs. He’s hitting .291. He’s got a slugging average over 500. The pitch fouls this one back. Had a really good rip at a fast ball that was right down the middle. So I think Harrison would like to not repeat that pitch and two to Sters. One run, four hits for the Giants. Giants have had a triple, two doubles, a single. Here’s a swing and a bouncer. It is fouled. Just kicked foul by first. Have two doubles, a triple, a single, and a hit batter. And they had all of that in the first two innings of the one run. sort of feeling a little bit like the the Wednesday game in Detroit where the Giants had hits and extra base hits and just couldn’t make it happen. Now Sters takes a slider way off the outside. One ball, two strikes to count to Kyle Sters. Harrison winds and pitches and Sters fouls this one back. That fast ball came in right under his hands. as we come to you live from the Hawaiian Airlines broadcast booth here in Miami. Game one of three Giants Marlins. One, two. Sters takes it. Wow, that could have been a strike. 97 mph fast balls right on the corner right about belt high but called the ball. Two and two. Quick and a miss. Strike three way. Went right back toward the outside. 97. Man, that is that’s impressive from Kyle Harrison. That’s a guy who’s hot and has been the Marlins best hitter. And here’s Javier Senoha. Fans are coming back home finally after this series. Now a attempt at a bunt. Senoa ran up and offered at it. missed it and the pitch was called a strike anyway. Would have been 0 and one. Fans will have four games against the Padres’s starting on Monday. Those are big games. Now, a pitch outside fighter that just didn’t do anything. Padres’s only only be coming to town twice all year. New schedule the last couple years. It it really changes things. You don’t get as many opportunities against your top competition, especially at home. We We know how hard it is to play at Petco Park. Giants have seen that already this year. The pitch that one called the wall that was right on the outside. Two and one. Anyway, sgiants.com/tick. Four really big games starting on Monday. the pitch. That is low. He walked him. Well, that that’s just a mistake from Harrison. Every big league hitter can be a threat. But Senoa around a 600 OPS hitting eight. It’s a little guy and with one out already. Harrison did not want to walk him. He has three steals, but he has been caught three times. So, he will try to run. We’ll see if he would try here. Cortez, the catcher, right-handed hitter, and he takes off the outside. Ball one. He’s talking about getting Sters to start the inning. The only lefty in the lineup for the Marlins tonight against the left-hander Harrison, but he’s hit well against lefties. Pitch Low with the change up. Sters came into this game hitting 375. Not that many at bats against lefties, but the ones he’s faced, he’s been great against. Kyle Harrison’s got to get back in the strike zone. He misses in here. Not by a whole lot, but that’s ball three. So, he’s thrown what? Since he got sters, he’s thrown eight pitches and seven of them have been balls. That’s not a good percentage, Dave. Not great. 3 and 0 to the ninth place hitter and that is just inside ball four. So Harrison walks the eighth and ninth hitters in the order and JP Martinez and Patrick Bailey are coming out. I I don’t know what happened. Kyle’s been ahead of the count and pounding the strike zone and attacking and all of a sudden he just couldn’t throw a strike to those two guys. Well, now the guy who’s one of their top young prospects who really hit one well. He hit a 100 mph fly ball to right on the first pitch thrown by Harrison tonight that was caught in front of the right field wall by Yremsky. And he just walked two guys. And you mentioned Sanoha only a 280 on base average and Forz only a 237 on base percentage. Forz who in 327 big league games only a 221 batting average. Those were two guys that you just can’t walk those guys. He did. Here’s the first pitch to Ramirez and it’s outside with a slider. Ball one. a Havislaw mound visit. JP Martinez out to try to help Harrison get back in the strike zone. He is a dangerous hitter this guy. Augustine Ramirez fouls this one back. Had a big swing. One and one outfield. Jung Hu Lee shaded just slightly towards right center. Infield position to try to get a double play if Harrison can get a ground ball. He’s not a big ground ball pitcher. He’s one of the few Giants pitchers who is not the 1-1. That one is hit to right field. Yremsky is there and he’ll catch it, tagging Senoa. Yaz is going to throw and it’ll be cut off by Fitzgerald. So the runner at second goes to third, but the Giants get the second out of the inning. Two down and it’ll be Hernandez who drew a walk in his first time to the plate. Ramire is only 23 years old, hit 25 home runs in three levels of the minor leagues last year and he has hit seven home runs. Only had 124 at bats in the big leagues so far this year. Tough hitter, but he’s out. Here’s Hernandez. He takes a strike. That time he got the borderline call on a high fast ball. 1-1 trying to get through this. Two on, two out. One- nothing Giants. Hernandez swings and misses. Well, he overpowered him. Just threw one right out over the plate at 96 and it’s 0 and two. Hernandez is going to ask for time. Hernandez drew that walk and then got picked off. Got backpicked by Patrick Bailey. The O2 and a miss. Strike three. 96 mph fast up. Harrison strikes out Hernandez. Marlins threatened with the two walks, but they do not score. Every game night is a chance to go big with MLB Big Inn inning. Pat Chapman leads off for the Giants here in the fourth inning. One- nothing. Giants are ahead. Chapman fouls one straight back out of play. Had a good swing on a Cal Quantrol first pitch fast ball. It’s 0 and one. Chapman nine home runs, 25 batted in. His batting average 224. And it’s been a while where he’s been struggling at the plate. Now a pitch is low. goes right through the mit of the catcher, Forez on ball, one strike count. Here’s the pitch in the dirt. He had some better at bats in the Tigers series, especially late in that series. And I think the Giants are encouraged that some of these hitters who are scuffling so much are starting to turn the corner. And the Giants have had some hard, loud contact tonight with just the one run. Two and one to count. Here’s the pitch. Chapman hits a high drive to deep left field. Hernandez is going to watch it. It is gone. Up over the bullpen. That ball was crushed. Matt Chapman’s 10th home run of the year. It’s two nothing Giants. And he just annihilated that 420 home run for Chapman. Hernandez gave it the courtesy look, but that that one whistled over his head and over the bullpen and almost up onto the walkway. There aren’t that many seats of bleachers up over the bullpen. Maybe 10 rows, something like that. And he hit it almost all the way to the top of that section. But Chapman goes deep. Adamus takes a slider low for ball one. jumped off his bat at 110 mph. That’s how you hit one 420. I don’t know to Adam. Adamus pulls it sharply past the dive of the third baseman Norby to left field base hit. But really Adamus, we really haven’t seen the power, but we’re starting to see some more good swings contact like that. He’s aboard. That’s the sixth Giants hit already, but nobody out. Patrick Bailey comes up. We’ll pause quickly for station identification on the KMBBR Northern California Honda dealers radio network. This is Steve Black of Giants baseball and FMX San Francisco Sports. Bailey foul tips a first pitch cutter. Man, that pitch was right down the middle. Just foul tipped it. Strike one to Bailey who hit a double into the gap in left center field in his first at bat. That had to feel good. Baileyy’s at bats have started to look much more Bailey like. He swings and misses here though. The splitter. That’s been a big problem for Patrick this year. The change ups and the splits, the soft stuff. He’s had a real hard time laying off. I think even that one was not a strike and he hasn’t thrown a splitter for a strike yet. Thomas at first. One run in for the Giants here in the fourth. They lead two nothing. Thomas dives back safely as Pontro picks over. Still nobody out. Casey Schmidt waiting to hit next. Casey had a good swing his first time up. Bailey goes down on another splitter. Swings and misses. He is not picking those pitches up at all. So the strike out for Quantrol, his third of the game so far. One out and Schmidt comes up for the second time. Casey blistered a line drive into right center field. He was caught by the center fielder Meyers who then threw to third with Bailey tagging up and got a double play. Fast right in there. It takes strike one. Adamus short lead over at first does not look like he’s really thinking about going pitch is low a splitter and Schmidt did seem to read it so he saw that took it for ball one one and one season interrupted by the the oblique injury the pitch there goes Adamus taken high and the ball dropped by Forz. Adama steals second without a throw. I think sometimes it can be a base runner getting the absolute biggest lead possible can be a a detriment. Number one, the other team might start paying more attention to you. Damas did not have a huge lead there. Two and one the count. And now Schmidt, he didn’t ask for time. The pitcher Quantrol stepped off. The other thing is sometimes a runner gets such a big lead away from first and you almost get fixated on how do I get back if he throws over. Here’s a swing and a ball pulled up into the ether whatever is floating up in the third level down the left field line. Two and two. Casey Schmidt. Anyway, Adamus with the steal. He hasn’t been doing a whole lot of that. And of course he hasn’t been on base as much as he would like to be. Just his third steal of the year so far. The pitch mitt foul tips it into the mitt. Strike three. So he goes down swinging on a high fast ball. Two down. That’ll be up to Tyler Fitzgerald if the Jags going to get another run home. Fitzgerald doubled his first bat of the night. Even with that strikeout, the Giants right-handed hitters, five hits and 10 at bats, plus a hit by pitch and they’re right-handed hitters. First one to Fitzgerald is a curve that was called a strike. Very low strike given by Cory Blazer. Thomas leads away from second. Two down. Fitzgerald, another one of those right-handed hitters. And he takes in the dirt. Forez blocked it somehow. Oh man, that pitch bounced way in front of home plate. Thomas got a good sort of secondary lead reading that ball in the dirt, but he held his ground when Fortz kept it around the plate. Chance for the Giants to add to a two nothing lead. The pitch Fitzgerald swings and misses. One of the problems for the Giants is that they’ve only had the one hit by anybody for the runner in scoring position. That was Wilmer Flores in the first inning. Had one hit in six at bats. The runner at second or third for both one two pitch in tight almost hit him. Splitter is still having a hard time controlling that pitch and that’s usually an important pitch for him and he doesn’t really have the feel for it at all. He’s trying to take advantage of that. not not having one of his big weapons. Two and two the pitch. Fitzgerald hits a slow roller toward third. Going to be a real tough play. Charging Norby and he’s not going to make a throw. He knew Fitzgerald’s just got too much speed. He spun around with the shorts stop Lopez cutting over to third behind Adamus just in case Adamus had gotten too far away from the bag. It’s actually probably a pretty smart play by Connor Norby, the third baseman, but Adamus stayed over there at third. Fitzgerald gets the infield hit. Well, the Giants have first and third with two outs for Mike Ystrevky. Geral’s second hit of the game. Now a throw over to first and Tyler dives back. Man, it he was getting his lead and didn’t look like he was expecting a throw right there, but he got back safely. Could be a spot where the Giants could send him and just see if the Marlins would even dare to make a throw. Another pick over and Fitzgerald again dives back towards the back side of the first base bag safely. So now that’s two disengagements right away and Quantrol. If he does that again and doesn’t pick him off, it’s a B. Fitzgerald not going anywhere though. One of the pitch is called a strike. I would think this would be a spot where you could get a little bigger lead and just go. He’s used his two throws over. Dreky 0 for two. The pitch. He’s not running. And Yas swings and misses at a high cutter. 0 and two. I mean, especially now two strike count. KKY asked for time. Thomas at third, Fitzgerald at first. Chapman already homered in the inning. Giants have had three hits, including a home run. There goes Fitzgerald. And the ball swung on and missed. Strike three. A high fast ball. And Yas looks totally plummeed by that at bat. So, the Giants get the one on the Chapman home run. Midway through four, it’s two nothing Giants on the KBR Northern California Honda dealers radio network. With the crack of the bat, it’s baseball season. Let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is oppo taco. You know what it means? Ao taco. Now back to the orange in black on KN&N 1045 and 680. Last of the fourth. Eric Wagaman who’s the Marlins first baseman. He takes a fast ball from Harrison outside for ball one. The 21st out of the game ended the top of this fourth inning. Sponsored by 21st Amendments. Hell or high watermelon wheat beer. Summer in a can. Harrison misses low and it’s 2 and0 to Wagaman. grounded out to short. Took a good play by Adamus, his first time up. Pitch, he swings and misses. Fast ball. 94 miles an hour from Harrison. Next pitch will be number 50. Here it comes. And Wagaman swings and misses. He chased a fast ball little bit off the outside. Strike two. Harrison his first start of the year. last time out in Washington. Ended up throwing 57 pitches, four total innings. So, Giants want him to increase that here today. But we’ll see how much he can bump that pitch count up, how much stamina he’s got. 2-1 and he just misses inside. Man, that I say 2-1. I That’s ball three, but I I think the count is three and two. I thought the pitch fouled back. Well, that’s definitely two strikes. Full count here to Wagaman. Lopez and Meyers lined up behind him here in the last of the fourth. The pitch. Wagaman fouls this one back. Call it 95. Basketball for Harrison is it’s such a weapon I think typically when it’s up right at the top of the strike zone. Hasn’t always been located up tonight. Now a liner out towards right center field into the gap. That one’s going to get down. Lee cuts it off. Spins around. Throws back towards second. And even though the ball does skip by Adamus, that throw, as good as it was, forces Wagaman to hold it first. He’s got a leadoff hit. That is the first hit of the game for the Marlins. They have drawn three walks against Harrison, but that’s their first hit. Now, Otto Lopez comes up. He’s turned into a good player for the Marley. He’s a really good defender. He’s he’s taken over at shortstop these days. He was very good second baseman last year. Takes his pitch off the inside. A slider for ball one. as we come to you live from the Hawaiian Airlines broadcast booth. Kyle Harrison looking over to first now pitches and a foul. Lopez went down to a knee. Took such a mighty hack at that pitch. 95 mph fast. And again, more middle and down than up from Harrison. I’m I’m not sure that’s the plan. The pitch got the call. A little wraparound slider over the outside. One and two. Wagaman the runner at first. Marlins do like to run. They They are a team that will force the issue. Wagaman probably not the guy to do that. He has one steel. The pitch swing and a miss. Strike three. Got Lopez on a 96 mph fastball. That one was up. And that’s where hitters, when Harrison throws it in that location, hitters just have almost no chance of connecting when he’s throwing this hard. One out for Meyers. Chance will be hosting the Red Sox later in the month of June for an exciting inner league series at Oracle Park. The pitch hit high in the air left center field. Coming in is Jung Hu Lee and he’ll get there and make the catch. So Meyer’s gone on one pitch, two outs here in the bottom of the fourth. Saturday, June 21st, the Giants are going to host what they’re calling a City Connect concert featuring country musician Nate Smith. You can enjoy the show from your seats. So if you have tickets to the game, you have tickets to the concert. You can also upgrade with a field pass for postgame. sfgiants.com/natemith. Strike one. A first pitch slider to Connor Norby. Runner at first. Two down. Two nothing. Giants leading. Bottom four. Here’s the pitch. Swing and a miss. Norby way late. That again. That fast ball. If he gets it up above the belt, he’s getting a ton of swings and misses. If he goes back up there again and puts it in the right spot, I think he’s going to get another one here. with a pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. 96 on the fast ball and Kyle Harrison works around that leadoff single. He’s got good stuff tonight. That is his fifth moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. Smith Clarks went into right down the line. It may go crazy folks. Go crazy. You grown hot avocados for just 97 cents each. Lemonade savings you can count on. Only at Raies and Knobill. John and Dave on KNBR 1045 and 680. Strike one to Elliot Ramos. Inning number five. Giants have a two nothing lead. Here’s John Ramos who tripled his first at bat and scored a run and grounded out his next time to second base. Now he swings and misses at a low splitter. He chased and they that one ended up down around his ankles. 0 and2 the count. Giants ahead two nothing. They’ve had a lot of chances in this game. They’ve had seven hits against Quantrol plus a hit batsman. So, just two hits in eight at bats with runners in scoring position and one of those was an infield hit that didn’t score anybody. 02 pitch splitter again struck him out swinging. Well, that’s the first batter of the game really where Quantrol has gotten some positive from throwing that splitter and he got Ramos to chase two of them. And I say this the splitter when it comes in over the plate and looks like a strike and then tumbles downward. That’s what happens. Here’s Jung Hu Lee and he takes the ball too hard. Left-handed hitters in this game have had a combined one hit in seven at bats. That was one hit, a double by Bailey. There’s a little tapper up the third base side. Over to barehanded is Quantrol. And then he drops it and the third baseman was right behind him, ready to play it with an opportunity to already be facing first base, but Quantrol went over and tried to barehand it. Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts after years in Philadelphia used to tell a story at at banquetss. He came to the Orioles late in his career with Brooks Robinson at third base. Here is Wilmer Flores. Now Wilmer has knocked in a run with a single and he’s lined out to center. He takes a cold strike and there was a little dribbler just like that one and Robin Roberts went over to go for it and uh and he did not get his guy. Here’s the pitch now. Hard ground ball just fouled past third. Making a headlong dive behind the bag was Norby. It hit off his glove, but he’s grateful that it was a foul ball. Oh and two the count. Anyway, as Roberts headed back to the pitchers, he heard Brooksie kind of circling around the mound says, “Uh, hey, uh, hey, Robin, usually I make that play pretty well. Next time, let it go.” And, uh, yeah, a guy who won 19 gold gloves. Swing light right to second. It’s caught. The throw back to first. Not in time. First baseman Wagaman had not gotten to the bag yet. So he caught the throw off the bag and try to make a tag on Jung Hu Lee diving back to the bag and the the Marlins check with their video room and they will contest the call. Wilmer hit the uh the liner and Adam ball. He’s one for three. And here’s Matt Chapman who hit a long home run his last time. Giants ahead two nothing. There’s a ball down and away. I don’t know if Norby usually makes that play really well, but I think he had a better shot at making it than did Calantrol. Although so far Lee is still over at first. Have not been able to move him up. Japan has been hit by a pitch and he hit that long home run in the fourth. Now the sack. There goes Lee. The pitch taken for a strike. The throw down to second. the slide and he’s in there safely with a steal. Junghu Lee stealing second base, his fourth steel this year. Now he is in scoring position. Matt Chapman will try and knock him in. Chapman who hit his 10th home run in his last bat, got 26 battered in for the year. Now he takes off the inside with a splitter. And it’s two and one. The Marlins second baseman Sonoha is well over toward the middle. Otto Lopez more or less straight up and short now. There’s a fast ball too high. Rayan the right-handed hitting Willie Adamus is on deck. Here’s Quantrol about to throw his 89th pitch of the night. He delivers and it’s Wow, that ball was set not just low. According to the Statcast strike zone, it was two or three inches low. Not close and he called it a strike, but instead of the walk, it’s now three and two to Matt Chapman. That that pitch was way down. Here’s the pitch. And that one is a splitter. And that is much too low. And he took that one as well. Ball four. That is the first walk allowed by Quantrol. The Marlins have action going in their bullpen now. A right-hander is warming up and the Miami pitching coach Daniel Moscos is going to go to the mound now to visit with Quantrol. A Habis Law mound visit. on the Toyota out of town scoreboard tonight. It’s the Yankees and uh the Dodgers sort of a a redo. At least the Yankees would like to get a doover of last year’s World Series. Here now is Willie Adamus. They’ll be in Dodger Stadium. I thought they were playing in New York, but they’ll be in LA later tonight. Now, here’s the pitch. Another extremely low pitch called a strike. Man, I haven’t seen anything quite like that this year. I’ve seen some low pitches called strike, but now he’s he’s in a groove. If it doesn’t bounce it, it’s a strike apparently. Here it is. And it’s top foul off to the left. And that was another ball down. And I think that’s that’s a curveball. And he swung at it because that first pitch was called a strike. It not only the pitch that the blown call by the umpire, but then it kind of causes the hitter to rethink what a strike is. Two men on, two men out. Two nothing Giants. And the two strike pitch. No spin move instead. Quantrol spins around and looks Jung Hu Lee back to second. Damus has flyed up to shallow center and hit a single to left. Also stolen a base. Here’s Quattrol at the bell. He throws. Fast ball high and tight for a ball. One and two at Dodger Stadium tonight. It will be Max Freed who’s been the ace for the Yankees this year. 7-0 against right-hander Tony Gonelin on the Toyota scoreboard. Now there is a splitter down and away. Good take there by Willie Adams. Giants leading two nothing. Looking for a big two out hit here. Could mean a run. Speedy Lee at second. The pitch swing and a miss. He struck him out and that was a splitter on the inside. He might be finished for the game already. But let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. Today’s phrase is ao taco. Towers check swing that was right in there and called the ball. Wow. What is the strike zone? Blazer has created a unique chaotic strike zone. That was right at the belt and called a ball. Now a swing and a ground ball foul first base sack yet you throw one what three inches or so or more below the knees and that’s a strike three and two the count delivers swing and there’s a high fly ball into deep left center back into his left is Ramos onto the warning track he slows up and reaches to his left and makes the catch that was into the power rally in deep left center. He hit it hard, but into an out. This is a big ballpark, especially in the alleyways. It’s not as big as it used to be either. They brought in the fences a couple of times over the years. That ball was hit hard by Stalers. Here is Senoha. Right-handed batter. He takes a called strike. Fast ball at the knees. So Noha drew a walk his first time. Right tadget hitting second baseman out of Venezuela. 22 years old. Now a fast ball that misses for a ball. One ball and one strike. Noa drew a walk his first time back in the third inning. Giants two, Marlins nothing. Here it comes. And a fast ball or I beg you. Pardon that. That was the breaking ball. 84 mph breaking ball for a called strike on the outside. It’s one and two. He comes back again and misses way off the outside with that same kind of a pitch. Although this one he missed badly. Two and two. Giant shortstop is playing the right-handed hitter like he’s a left-handed hitter. There’s a ground ball toward the middle over to his left. Adamus well placed to get it and throws him out at first. Two down. Well, that worked out well. Giants coaches who help study the charts to position the defense and he was playing it more like a left-handed hitter gated toward the middle and that’s right where Senoha hit the ball. Two down and here is Forz. Okay, he takes a fast ball right in there for a called strike. Cortez also walked back in the the third inning. Harrison pitches and what about that low strike? Come on. No, not if it’s a real short guy. There’s a ball a couple inches below the knee. One and one the cow. Here it is. Swing and a miss. They came back with another change up. Same spot below the knees. This time for said I better swing it. He’s been giving me those calls when I’m behind the plate. One and two the count. Tristan Beck, a right-hander warming up in the Giants bullpen. And there’s a foul coming right back in our direction. It will drop down below. One and two. The count. 96 mph fast ball there from Kyle Harrison. Harrison throws and the slider is low. Two and two the count. 78 pitches thrown in the game by Harrison which is about where the Jazz were hoping he could get tonight. Now he misses low again with a change up. Now it’s three and two. JP Martinez pitching coach said maybe 75 80 pitches. Well, this will be his 80th pitch. And a fast ball is lifted high in the air into left center in and to his left. Ramos. Inning over. That may be the final pitch of the night for Patrick for Kyle Harrison. That’s five shut out innings. Only one hit allowed. Two nothing Giants as we go to the sixth. B. He picks a high strike on the inside with a 94 mph fast ball. Well, that’s not junk. High fast ball at 94. Well placed. Junk’s pitched five innings, only allowed one walk. Here’s the pitch now. Braves who have Ronald Akuna Jr. back in the lineup off the injured list as a swing and a miss a high fast ball and Bailey went up after it. One away. The starter Cal Quantrol went five innings and allowed two runs and eight hits. He hit one, walked one, and struck out seven. He gave up one home run and threw 95 pitches, but he was at his best when the trans put runners on base. They had only two hits and nine at bats against him with runners in story position. Now there’s strike one to Casey Schmidt. Schmidt has lined to center into a double play by swinging and it’s a line shot and it’s short hop by the second baseman ranging to his right. That is Sanoha who gets up throws over to first out number two. That ball was really smoked by Schmid. Bone liner just to the right of Senoha and he was able to spear it on that very quick hop. showed quick hands and and soft hands at the same time. That ball came up a little bit. Didn’t just bounce inches in front of the glove. It came up. That’s great. Quick hop. Hit a 100 miles an hour by Schmidt. Now, here’s a called strike to Tyler Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald has doubled in the left center and had an infield hit. So, he’s two for two. Two out, nobody on. Two nothing Giants. And a foul back the screen. That was a slider on the outside about mid thigh. Oh, and to the count. Junk. Pitched five innings in his first outing. He went long relief. Only one run, six hits allowed in that game. Stream the sports leader on the allnew K&B app. Now back to the orange and black. Giants go to the bullpen. Kyle Harrison really good tonight and Tristan Beck takes over. Bottom six, two nothing Giants. Here’s Beck, the right-hander. A long string of right-handed hitters due up for the Marlins. Although they they do have some lefties on the bench and they may use one of them right after this as Beck misses outside for ball one. Ramirez fly out deep to right and lined out to right. Made hard contact a couple of times. Now he takes a slider low. Two and0. Jesus Sanchez has come out on deck. Hernandez do up next. Sanchez, one of their regulars, looks like he’ll be out as a pinch hitter. And Beck misses way off the outside with a slider and it’s three and0. Beck worked the Tuesday night game in Detroit. He pitched the seventh and eighth innings scorelessly. There’s a high fast swung on and missed. 92 mph fast ball beltled high on the inside and it’s three and one. Might be having a little bit of hard I mean it’s just his first few pitches but he was throwing a little harder than that last time out. Here’s the sack. Here’s the pitch and then he drops in a curveball for a called strike. Beauty ran two. Tristan back sets throw. Look out. And he almost hit him with that one. Tried that curveball again and he missed badly with it for ball four. So that that’s about as bad a beginning as any reliever can ever have coming into a tight game and walking the first guy. And now Jesus Sanchez will come up. He never walked anybody in that game in Detroit on Tuesday. No runs, no hits, no walks. Only threw 23 pitches in those two innings. He’s been really impressive coming back. I mean, this road trip, his first big league action of the year, and he’s impressed every, but he’s having a hard time getting kind of ramped up here so far in this one. He also pitched three innings last Saturday in Washington, the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning. Gave up a run and two hits in that game. Now, Eric Miller, left-hander, starts to warm up in the Giants bullpen. Jesus Sanchez. Pinch hitting for Hernandez. Left-handed hitter. The pitch to him and he throws the curveball in there for a called strike. Just had the Habis Law mound visit. JP Martinez, the pitching coach, was out at the mound. Giants ahead two nothing. A one strike. Fast ball is fouled out of play off to the left and back into the second deck. Jesus Sanchez hitting 246. He’s got four home runs. Feet wide apart. Here’s the pitch. Curve ball. It lifted high and fouled off the left field line. And well back out of play and two. Marlins brought in three new players today. One off the injured list, two from the minor leagues and they dropped three players, two they da. There’s a curveball driven foul deep down the right field line, but very much foul. No balls, two strikes. Kyle Harrison went five, no runs, one hit given up, five strikeouts. He did walk three through 80 pitches. Again, the O2 pitch down and in with a fast ball at 94. It’s one and two. Short stop. Adamus well over toward the middle. Second baseman. Fitzgerald is straight up. First baseman Schmidt on the bag with the runner and the pitch. Top foul. He just barely got a piece of that curveball. sweeping down and in at 79 miles per hour. Not enough to stay alive. A ball. Giants two Marlins nothing. Long way to go in this game. We’re only in the sixth inning. Wagaman a right-handed hitter on deck. One two pitch outside with the curve. Two and two now. Now Brian Walker, a right-hander, gets up in the Giants bullpen along with the left-hander Eric Miller. But what he outr runner at first pitches little tapper foul just off to the right. He went down for that curveball and uh it’s almost like he was golfing at it, desperately trying to make contact and he did. He’s been up there for a while now. again. Back ready, kicks, throws, and a popup foul. Coming all the way back toward the press box. Two and two. The count remains. Jumped ahead of him initially at 0 and two. given him a very determined battle ever since. Here it comes. Strike three call. He got the high slider. Sanchez thought it was too high. And with the break, the ball came down to the top of the strike zone. That’s the way Cory Blazer read it. And that gets the strike out. It was very close, but the Statcast strike zone did say that it was a little too high. Here’s Wagaman. Right-handed batter and a slider is just off the inside at the knees. Ball one. Wagaman has grounded out to short and then he hit a line drive single his next time, but he’s one for two. Eric Wagaman the pitch to him. Swing and a high pop up. First baseman Schmidt right near the bag comes down the line a bit now back into fair territory and makes the catch. He’ll be 18 ft away from the bag. Wagman is gone. Two down and Otto Lopez will come up on the Toyota out of town scoreboard with the Giants leading here two nothing. The Brewers lead the Phillies five to2 in the top of the eighth. Up in Philadelphia at first, two down. Here’s Otto Lopez. The pitch. Look out. Tries to curve and it went it went right over the head of Lopez who ducked under it. Lopez has bounced one back to the mound and struck out in this game. The Mets lead Colorado 3 to one up in New York. Top of the seventh inning on the Toyota scoreboard. Now here’s a curve ball just missing around the outside of the knees. It’s 2 and 0. Turado leading the Athletics 6 to five up in Canada. Last of the fifth inning there. Two and0 pitch down and away. Way outside with that slider. 3 and 0. Red Sox leading Atlanta two to one in Atlanta. Top of the sixth inning. Giants leading here two nothing. Last of the six. Two down. Runner at first. And there is a ball too low. Well, he not only walks out to Lopez, he walked them on four pitches. None of those pitches very close. And he’s want two of the four hitters he’s faced. And here comes Bob Melvin out. The Marlins have uh Dane Meyers just activated from the injured list. He’s been one of their best inners when he’s been healthy this year coming up. And Ryan Walker will be brought in here with two men on and two men out in the last of the sixth inning when it’s time for a moments in baseball have been broadcast on the radio since 1921. And a lack of command has been a big reason why Parker’s had some struggles. Seven walks and four hit batters in 20 innings pitched. He doesn’t have a whole lot of margin for error coming into this game with two on. He inherits two on, but already two outs. So Walker takes over for Beck. Beck threw 22 pitches, only 11 for strikes in his time out there. So this is a huge spot here for Ryan Walker in a different role now with the Giants ahead two nothing. So here is Walker set the right-hander throws and this crossfire fast is off the outside. The ball one 95 miles per hour. Meyers is struck out and fly out to shallow center. Ramirez at second, Lopez at first. Two down. Two nothing Giant with a swing. ground ball to short in to field it. Adamus with the throw to first. Inning over. Is Giants baseball on KNBR 1045 and 680. The Giants with a two nothing lead. Bottom seven and a new pitcher Eric Miller, the left-hander comes in and his first pitch is swung on and missed by Connor Norby. Started off Norby, right-handed hitter with a change up and it was a good one. Strike one from Miller. Fourth pitcher of the game for the Giants. Norby now pulls one down the left field line. That is a fair ball and it’s going to ricochet into the corner. Norby will make it into second. Ramos plays the carum and finally sort of took him a while to get there. wheels it back in. Norby stops at second with a leadoff double. It’s only the second hit of the game for the Marlins. But because this is just a two nothing score, they get the tying run to the plate with by far their best power hitter, Sters against a guy he knows pretty well, Eric Miller. Bowers against Miller here with a runner at second and nobody out. The pitch is hit down the left field line and fouled. Eric’s had a he’s had a really good year. His last few outings though, he has not been as sharp. Miller’s struggle with his command a bit. That’s using him in a big spot here though. Two nothing. They lead bottom seven. Here’s the pitch. Showers takes a fast ball outside. 99 miles an hour, but a ball. Towers struck out and flight out against Kyle Harrison, the Giants starter tonight. The pitch that one misses high. Two and one. Two hits. That’s it for the Marlins. They have drawn five walks. Harrison through issued three walks. and Tristan Beck got two outs and also walked two pitch ster swings and misses. Good fast ball in under his hands. Man, that was that was a nasty pitch. I’m thinking that for Bob Belvin probably Ster’s presence in this lineup spot is the reason why Miller’s in this game. 2-2 is fouled back. He threw another one in and Sters just got a piece of it. because Ryan Walker only needed a couple pitches to get one out, but instead of bringing him back out, he hasn’t really done that much this year. Instead of doing that, it’s Miller 22 up high. Three and two. Well, this becomes a very big pitch in this game. The Giants are ahead two nothing. Tyler Rogers has started to throw in the bullpen. 3-2 pitch is ball four. We walked him. Oh, the Giants. Bullpen normally just so good. Tonight has not been perfect and especially with the command only an inning and two batters and the Giants relievers have already walked three. Now the Marlins, they could play some small ball with Senoa and try to tie this game. I think the Giants are anticipating that. Schmidt at first and Chapman at third, pinching in. Miller throws. Senoa squares around and bunts it right around home plate, but fouled. Strike one. You got the ninth place hitter, Forez, the catcher on deck. And then the top of the order drew up after that. Eric Miller has allowed a leadoff double and a walk. See if thinking about Bunning again. He squares early and the pitch way high. Bailey throws behind the runner at second and it bounces and Adamus almost has to play the role of a catcher. He blocked it to keep it from going into center field. Norby went sprawling to get back safely. They did get back. Well, because it is a force out at third. That was a good idea to keep him fairly close. Now, a bunt first base side. Schmidt comes down the line, thought about going to third with that force out, but Norby, even without maybe as big a lead as he would have wanted, got a good jump and Schmidt pivoted and threw to first with Fitzgerald covering. So the Giants get the out at first base, but the sacrifice perfectly executed by the eighth place hitter. Now the Giants are going to conference on the mount. Another Habis Law mound visit with Tyler Rogers warming up. Who knows? Maybe Bob Melvin is thinking about a pitching change right here, right now. We’ll see. Bailey and company out on the mound and the home plate umpire breaks up the meeting. You can see the Giants manager. He’s on the second or third step of the dugout. He’s talking about Brian Christensen. Not the not the pitching coach. He’s talking to the bench coach. So Miller’s going to stay in at least for one more hitter. Second and third. One out. Marlins are a base hit away from tying this game. The pitch is a strike. He got the strike with a slider. And one. Well, that’s the the Giants are paying the price for not cashing in on some of their opportunities. The pitch just low with another offspe pitch. This time the change up will let the Marlins hang around in this game and now their lead is much in jeopardy. Two nothing in the seventh. The 1-1 pitch is pulled on the ground. Foul. He hit it sharply but foul. Match happens guarding that line. And so I think his idea is he does not want to let anything get down the third baseline. If it’s fair in theory, he should be able to reach it. That one was hit very hard though. One and two. The pitchfor. Wow. He checks his swing on a fast ball way up and somehow ball glances off his bat and goes back to the back stop. Millard comes set. His one-two pitch is hit down the right field line. Ow. Hit hard by Forz. But foul. Eric Miller. He He’s He may well get through this, but he’s not his normal self right now. Last few outings, just hasn’t been real sharp. One and two. The pitch is called strike three. Ball was dropped by Bailey. Just out now dropped. So he’s got to go pick it up and throw to first. And he does that to get the put out. And man, before the throw it even reached first base. Bob Melvin was on his way out. So the strike out. That’s a big second out. But Eric Miller’s not going to face the leadoff hitter, Christine Ramirez. It’ll be Tyler Rogers to come in. It’s time for a change. Think Speedy Oil Change and Auto Service. Your trusted oil change. Just a little scary because you got very good bat-to ball skills. Ramirez. Second and third. Two down. Rogers ready. First pitch and a strike. He got the low strike on the sinker. Ramirez started to swing, held up, and was not happy with the call. Well, that low strike that this umpire Blazer has been giving a lot of. That’s that works into Tyler’s kind of a game. One pitch swing and a miss. Well, that slider way outside and Ramirez was totally fooled by that one. Now it’s 0 and two. trying to help the Giants get through this bottom of the seventh. Still ahead two nothing. The O2 pitch is way outside. He went back out there with a slider. And this time, Ramirez didn’t swing and didn’t even flinch. That doesn’t mean he can’t go out there again. One and two. Here’s the pitch. It is fouled off to the right. Well, he definitely looked like he was taking an opposite field kind of approach. That was a sinker right down the middle and Ramirez slapped it foul to the opposite side. Tapman guarding the line. Adam shaded up the middle. Big hole on the left side. Here’s a cold strike three through the sinker right on the outside corner and Tyler Rogers gets Ramirez. The Marlins do not score. Chapman hit a home run in the fourth inning for the Giants second run of the game. He takes the fast ball low. Ball one. And the Giants home run leaders now. Hustling over the center fielder Meyers to his left to pick that one up in the alleyway. and he’ll hold Chapman to a very hard hit single. And it’s the third, in fact, the fourth straight time in this game that Pat Chapman has reached base. Chapman has been hit by a pitch. He hit that long home run in the fourth inning. Walked in the fifth and now a line drive single here. 108 miles per hour off his bat. A big rip and a foul straight back by Willie Adams. his home run. He hit at 110 miles an hour. Now that we had those speeds off the bat, I’m kind of a junkie for the real hard hit ones. Here’s the set and the pitch swing and a high pop up. You got the big sweeping breaking ball and the second baseman Sonoha right near the bag calling off Wagaman the first baseman to make the catch. So, Adamus got fooled by that slider and ends up hitting a a little pop fly. So, two down. Chapman still at first. Here is Bailey. Bailey batting left-handed. He’s hit a long double off the left center field wall and twice struck out. The pitch to him off the outside with a slider for ball one. Chapman, one of the Giants base stealing leaders. Spencer Bibbons in for the bullpen. Last of the eighth and his first pitch, a fast ball low. All ball one to Jesus Sanchez. Left-handed hitter 0 for one tonight. He struck out looking in the sixth inning. Now he pops a foul off to the left and back out of play. And Dave, it was a little almost shocking to see Bivvens coming through that bullpen gate, but Tyler Rogers in the game having just faced a one hitter in the seventh. One-1 pitch up and away with a fast ball. And hey, I was thinking that they were going to ask Tyler to get the final out of the seventh inning, then pitch the eighth inning. Not the case. Tyler threw 12 pitches though while he was in there. There’s a uh a called strike and it’s two and two now. Cutter only five pitches for Tyler Rogers. I’m looking at the wrong box score in the wrong day. relying on this thing and I had the wrong day. I was like 12 pitches. You seemed like I would have noticed that. Five pitches. All right. He struck out three Wednesday with 12 pitches. Now Sanchez fouls one back toward the press box. Two and two. And so surprising that Rogers didn’t come back out. Surprising that it’s not Randy Rodriguez. Although Rodriguez did pitch two innings on Wednesday. And sometimes that means the Giants build in a few maybe two full rest days for him. Two- two pitch a little bit off the outside with a cutter. Good take there. Good eye by Sanchez. Now it’s a three and two count. Oh, we hope Tyler’s okay. Bibons at the belt. Three two pitch. A smash into center field. Base hit. low liner to the right of Tyler Fitzgerald, the second baseman. He was a little bit over toward first playing in the pole and was back to his right and hit very hard. So now Wagaman, the third play setter, will come up. Right-handed batters has been throwing really well on this road trip. A 3.29 ERA for the year. 27 in the third innings before tonight. 22 hits allowed, eight walks, two home runs given up. So here’s Wagaman. He’s one for three and a big swing of a miss on a high fast ball. Yeah, it’s a good point. I mean, you and I are really surprised that he’s the guy in there. Mostly because he’s never been in this role at all for the Giants, but it’s not that he hasn’t been pitching well. He has. That’s middle infield. Double play depth, runner at first, nobody out. Two nothing Giants. And there is a fast ball strike two call. Well, he had Wagaman swinging and missing at the first one belt high at 95. And this one a little back door sinker. And again at the belt and had him taking strike two. Bibbons throws and a foul just off to our right. Back out of play. Still 0 and two. It threw him the cutter on the outside that time at 92. Giants two runs and 10 hits in this game. That’s the part that kind of hurts. The set. Here it comes. And a pop fly out near second base and caught by Fitzgerald. That’s one of those. The runner was not going. The hitter, he did not run. If you let that drop, you can’t just drop it, but you can let it drop and you can turn that into a double play when the the batter is still standing at home playing, which if you’re trying to catch a ball indoors, looking up for it, maybe maybe you wouldn’t notice that. And there are things can go wrong if you don’t catch one and let it down. So, one out. Here’s Otto Lopez. The pitch. Look out. That hit him. Oh boy. high and tight, but that first pitch sinker. Little too much movement. Meanwhile, Camilo Dval has started throwing in the Giants bullpen in the eighth inning. The Giants with a two nothing lead. And now the Marlins have two men on. And they’re going to use another one of their left-handed hitters here. This is going to be Hicks. So meanwhile now the the umpires are gathering by the third base line. Now Bob Melvin comes out. He wants to know what’s going on. The plate umpire Blazer goes over to talk to McCulla, the Miami manager. And the crew chief, Kulpa, comes over from third base to talk to Melvin. I kind of wish they’d come and explain it to us. Well, that number one, that ball, we’re looking at a replay. The ball did not hit Lopez. I think it hit the knob of his bat, but it didn’t hit him. Well, how could the Giants not appeal that? And for a replay review, I mean I this is where we had one of these earlier this year where okay is it you can’t review a foul tip but you can review a hit by pitch or not. They called hit by pitch the and I don’t see that it hit anything. Yeah, there that we just saw it did hit the knob of the bat. It was a foul ball. Well, that is kind of a upsetting. He was ruled to have been hit by the pitch and he’s at first and the Giants do not ask for a review. So, here is Hicks, left-handed hitter and Bibbons in trouble. throws a fast ball on the inside at the knees for a called strike. Just silly. We have a replay system set up. We use it all the time and then we’re not allowed to use it for that play. One strike the count. Here it is. And that’s in for a strike. Well, if the Empire had declared it a a foul, okay, but he said he was hit by the pit. You can review that. I’m just assuming the Giants would have challenged if the umpires were going to let him. I I can’t imagine they would have looked at that in the replay room and said, “No, we’re not going to challenge that.” Two men on, one man out. Two nothing Giants. The O2 pitch. Little bit too far inside with a cutter. Hicks, left-handed hitter, 278 average in 20 in 90 at bats. He got four home runs. And the pitch. How old off to the left. The desperation kind of a swing there. Just trying to fight it off. And he did. Milo Dval continues to heat up in the bullpen. Connor Norby, the right-handed hitter is on deck. Sanchez at second, Lopez at first. Two nothing Giants. The pitch on the way outside and high with a change up. He missed badly with that one. Two runs, 10 hits for the Giants. Giants have stranded eight runners. No runs, three hits for the Marlins. Two men on the pitch. Bang and a miss. He struck him out. And that was the cutter. And it did just what he was hoping. Cutting off the inside. I think it looked like a strike to the hitter and then cut in and out of the strike zone under the hands. Beauty. And now Bob Melvin comes out with Norby coming up. He’s got his closer ready. Camilo Dval in the bullpen and the Bibbons departs. Possible tying runs are on base. The game needs saving right now for the Giants. So Dval will come in when it’s time for a change. Think Speedy oil change on auto service. Trouble light on. They can fix that. Let’s see if we can figure out the following baseball slang term. So, there have been some other base runners, 20 strikeouts for the ball, but he’s been overpowering for most of the year. We’ll see if he can get through this eighth inning with the traffic. Two on, two outs. And then the Giants are going to ask him to pitch the ninth inning as well. They’re up two nothing here with Conor Norby, the third baseman, coming to the plate. Well, he mentioned his numbers, which are great for the season, but in his last 19 games, he’s pitched 18 innings and only allowed four hits and no runs in that stretch. Here’s the pitch and Norby swings and foul tips one into the glove of Patrick Bailey. A 99 mph cutter that was right out over the plate. Norby has grounded out to first. Struck out swinging and double down the left field line. Two men on, two men out. Two nothing Giants. And there’s a ball in the dirt outside. Knocked down by Bailey. Keeps it in front of him and keeps the runners right where they were, which is a huge play if that had gotten by Bailey. The runners would have advanced and then they would have had two runners in scoring position. Still Sanchez at second, Lopez at first. Two down. A 1-1 pitch swing. And there’s a high fly ball into center going back with plenty of room near the warning track toward left center. Junghu Lee. Junghu Lee. Jung Hu Lee makes the catch. See how I did that? Fitzgerald’s had two hits in the game, a double and an infield single. Now he swings and misses at a slider and on the count. Three innings of scoreless relief already provided by Junk. Here’s the pitch. Swing line drive into right center. Base hit. That’s into the alleyway. Racing over to cut it off is Sanchez the right fielder and he will hold the fastmoving Fitzgerald to a single. Third hit of the game for Tyler Fitzgerald. Victor Mesa Jr. has gone into play center field for the Marlins after Hicks pinch it for Meyers who had been the center fielder before that. Now the leadoff man Yremsky looks at a fast ball right in there for a called strike. And I say right in there was on the outer third although just above the knees by a few inches and where he could have gotten the arms extended. Yaz for four and really struggling on this road trip. Now he takes off the inside for a ball. Giants two, Marlins nothing. And that base hit and Fitzgerald was the Ji’s 11th hit of the game. Fitzgerald can steal a base. Gets his lead. Junk into his stretch. Delivered inside for a slider. Two and one to Y. Yas is fly out to center. Twice has struck out swinging and once grounded out to second. 0 for four. Elliot Ramos is on deck. Giants would would love to pad this lead a little bit. Two nothing the score. Ninth inning. Here it comes. Swing. Going to pop up. Oh, it will come back out of play. That was a change up from Junk and it had him off balance out on the front [Music] foot. Harland’s now with Sters in left, Mesa in center, and Sanchez the right fielder. On the infield, it’s Norby at third, Lopez at short, Sanoh at second, and Wagaman the first baseman. They’ve been out there in those spots all through the game. Forz the catcher. Two nothing Giants. Two and two pitch. There goes the runner. Swinging the miss. Strike three. Throw down to second base into center field. And uh Fitzgerald didn’t have a clue. and his his first instinct was not to look at his third base coach, Matt Williams, but to look at the guy who was covering to see if he had the ball or not. And he never touched the ball. So, he went in with a head first slide and had no idea that the throw had gotten through into center field. Don’t check with the Marlins. They’re not going to tell you. So here’s Ramos now swinging strike one slider on the outside. Well, I also think his hand was coming off the bag and I think his instinct mostly kicked in like I got to get back on the bag. Well, the you’re a little exposed when you’re off the bag there if the guy does have the ball. There’s a ball up and away. One and one the count. Diaz struck out for the third time tonight and is 0 for five. Ramos has a triple in four at bats and a run scored. The Giants ahead two nothing. The pitch on the way high and tight from Junk. Junk in his other big league game this year went five innings. Gave up one run. Now he’s in his fourth inning of this game. No runs allowed. The runner in scoring position for the Giants here. Now the pitch fouled back to the screen. Man, that was a big hanger on the outer part of the plate, but up and it’s two and two. Bats have two hits in 10 at bats with runners in scoring position. The Marlins are 0 for seven in those high leverage at bats. Two nothing Giants. Here’s the pitch in the dirt with the slider and the count is three and two. That was blocked by the catcher 410. The public address announcer just made an announcement. Here’s the pitch. Ramos went out of play off to the right. Sound like he was announcing the next batter. What was he saying? They said bat was going on too long. He just got antsy. I got to say something. Three and two the count to Elliot Ramos. It’s Gerald at second. There’s a swing and a miss. Fast ball right on the hands at 95 miles an hour and he blew it by him. Rabos has struck out three times in a row after his first inning triple. Then he later scored the first run of the game on a Flores single. Grounded out to second in the third. Then since then has struck out three times in a row. Here’s Jung Hu Lee. He’s one for four. Left-handed hitter. The pitch swing and he hits a fly ball in the right going back is Sanchez and he makes the catch. So it goes for the Giants. Twan, nobody on. Two nothing Giants. Ninth inning. Here it comes. Way outside. 98 mph fast ball off the corner. Reno on deck is one of the Marlins most powerful hitters. Young Augustine Ramirez. Well, Dval throws and he eases that slider through there for a called strike. There are times, I think, where he feels more confident in getting that slider in there than anything else. That must have been one of those. Not time asked for by Mesa. Two down, nobody on the stretch. Doval delivers outside and he walked him and that was a slider and he missed with it. It’s been a night where the Giants have walked quite a few Marlins. That’s seven walks issued by Giants pitching and the fourth walk allowed by the bullpen in relief of Kyle Harrison. Well, that has made things a little more tense. So here now is Augustine Ramirez. Very dangerous right-handed batter. The pitch to him. Slider in there for a strike. And Camo utilized the the slide step there, the the quicker delivery that he has worked so hard on behind the scenes. But Schmidt at first is not holding against the runners anyway. The pitch now in the dirt. It goes right by Bailey. And over to second base goes Mesa. A wild pitch that one in the dirt and right under the glove of Patrick Bailey. So now runner in scoring position. So some u little erratic sequence of pitches here. One- one pitch in there. 101 mph fast ball down the middle just above the knees. Strike two. Ramirez tonight is fly out deep to right lined out to right walked and struck out looking. Goval picks, throws, strike three call in the inside corner and Ramirez slams the barrel of the bat on the ground in the batters box hollering at Cory Blazer because he thought that one was not in the zone. That was might have been the only two seamer that Camilo threw in the whole inning and it had that movement hitting the inside corner and the game is over and Camlo Dval gets it done with a four out save. The Giants beating the Miami Marlins two nothing and it was an easy day but a pretty satisfying night for the Giants who’ve been belleaguered this week. Yeah, they’re just having to find ways to win games until their offense comes back to life. It’s amazing now almost exactly two runs a game for 12 games they’ve averaged almost exactly two runs a game and they’re six and six usually if you go 12 games and average two runs a game for basically two weeks you’re going to be four and eight or three and nine something like that and the Giants have managed to hold their ground while they wait let’s see if you can figure out the following baseball slang term today’s phrase is oppo taco You know what it means? Lead after the fourth inning. Never scored again, but no need. It was Harrison and then six different pitchers out of the Giants bullpen to preserve that two nothing advantage. So, here is the game summary sponsored by Raies and Knob Hills. Save more on the flavors you love and find better deals for your budget at Knob Hill. The Giants ended up with two runs on 11 hits. One of them a home run by Matt Chapman. Good for his the Giants second run of the night. It was the 10th home run of the year for Chapman. And it was an impressive thing to behold. 420 ft to straightaway left field. The Giants had frustrations, only two for 12 in their bats with runners in scoring position. So, they could have scored a lot more. On the other hand, uh, no need. The Jets ended up leaving 10 runners on base for the Marlins. No runs, three hits. So, just the three hits all through the game. Only one of those against Giant starter Kyle Harrison in his five innings. But the Marlins also had their own frustrations. They went 0 for8 in their at bats with runners in scoring position and also left 10 runners on base. The win goes to Kyle Harrison. That’s his first win of the year and a save for Camilo Dval, his sixth. It lowered his erra to 1.09. And the losing pitcher is the Miami starter Cal Quantrol. Although overall he allowed only the two runs in five innings, albeit on eight hits, but that’s nonetheless one of his best starts of the year in terms of runs allowed. 2 hours 41 minutes of time of the game and 10,361 the paid crowd here at Lone Depot Ballpark. The Giants call of the game. will give that to Wilmer Flores who had a an 11 pitch battle in the first inning with Ramos at third and two down and then delivered a single to knock him in. That was the first run of the game and proved to be the gamewinning run. The call of the game is sponsored by Ring Central AI first communications you can trust. Now, an energy hog is what you have when humans waste energy. One day, the three energy hogs set out to find themselves a cottage. “Let’s look for leaky windows,” said the first energy hog, for he knew that would waste energy. “Let’s look for leaky doors,” said the second. “Let’s look for a sleep,” said the third, for he had more blubber than brains. So, they set off down the road. Presently, they came upon a tiny cottage where dwelt a clever girl named Dreilocks. “I open those leaky windows,” cried the first energy hog. “I open that leaky door,” cried the second. I over there at the bathroom, cried the third, for only his brains were smaller than his bladder. But Dreddilocks liked playing cool games at energyhog.org. And from energyhog.org, she learned how to use energy wisely. So the three energy hogs were forced to look elsewhere to waste energy and had to use the disgusting restroom at the gas station down the road. And the moral of the story is to use energy wisely, log on to energyhog.org or waste not hognot. This public service message brought to you by the US Department of Energy and the ad council. If you average two runs a game for 12 games, which is what the Giants have done, you expect to go like three and nine or something like that. Two runs is not a winning formula. And they’re six and six. And I know you can’t sustain that for the full year, but for now they’re actually finding a way to to win games when they’re offense is just not I mean tonight they
