I don’t think there was an easier path. Expansion Vegas and a Washington team that was beatable I think.
Because they were stupid. Why didn’t they just score more goals than the other teams?
Marc-Andre Fleury is the reason we didn’t win the cup that year.
Im still not sure and 2018 is going to haunt me for a long time until they can get the job done
I thought we had a real chance but to be honest my money was on Tampa, and I’m still shocked they didn’t make it past the Capitals.
That final should have been Jets Vs Lightning and I will die on this hill a thousand times
This guy….. bro how many posts like this and previous coach is going to the cup you need?
That was Vegas’s rookie year after having the sweetest expansion draft ever and all the support of the NHL to go far. We faced them in the CF and they were buzzin’.
I will never cheer for Vegas or go to Vegas for a game because I do believe they halted wpg’s best chance ever to bring it home.
Vegas went to a trap after game one

Funnily enough it’s the same problems this team has today.
When lines weren’t working, we refused to change the dynamic on any of them, *except* the bottom pair/fourth line, and even then it was substituting someone who sucked for someone else who sucked.
An issue that goes relatively unmentioned is just how bad the Chiarot/Myers pair was in this series. They’re both players who struggled with reading the game correctly so both would find themselves trapped behind the net and it gave Vegas an easy lunch.
Lastly, this was the first real season of Hellebuyck’s career. The 2016-17 season for the Winnipeg Jets was absurdly unkind to them in large part due to injuries. I think if Hellebuyck is given the starting role he’s more prepped for the series.
Did you make a post like this for every team?
Most people didn’t expect us to get past Nashville really, although when we did, a lot of people really did think they would
i think this is the year that dump-and-chase pilled Maurice
Vegas’ back pressure was so effective that it’d really squeeze our forwards when trying to enter the offensive zone
people wonder why Maurice has been more successful with FLA but they are undeniably better built for his now preferred style, and honestly are just better in general too
I can’t remember who wrote the article but someone dug into teams who didn’t win the cup in the Cap era and decided the 2017-18 Jets were the best team who didn’t win. One of the Tampa years was the other top. But the gist was, from mid November (I think) onwards, we basically rolled everyone (both results and analytics) but then ran out of gas after a brutal Nashville series, had some bad injuries and bounces and lost out to Vegas and Fleury.
As for why? Mostly luck (including injury luck). That’s the playoffs every year. The best team doesn’t win the Stanley Cup as much as the best NBA team wins, for example. 18 skaters who all play every night means there are lots of ways luck can beat talent sometimes.
Helley choked and Flower was better. It’ll probably be the closest we get to the cup in my lifetime
Same reason why they’re still going nowhere. Lack of a legit 2C.
Las Vegas. That’s why.
I was at game 1 of the western finals and when we won I thought “holy shit…they might do it”. And we all know what happened next.
Pretty high but I think you guys had a great chance this year as well. Just unfortunate timing with injuries.
Road struggles are killer too.
Because they play well in open ice, and forget how to play in the playoff hockey, where defense is the key. That and lack intensity, as well as size and strength

We didn’t lose to VGK, we lost to MAF.
