This Edmonton Oilers team feels different | Oilers Update
What do you think their chances are now that they’re in the final to finally get this thing done? Like this team just feels way different than they were last season. They are they’re they’re it’s a better team. Uh it’s an experienced team. It’s they’ve been there, done that. So there’s no surprises. We don’t know what to expect. They know what to expect. Uh they won’t get caught up in the moment. They won’t be overwhelmed by the moment. But then on the other hand, even though you know the Florida Panthers, you know, lost some players last season, um, you know, you look at, you know, Brandon Montour and Oliver Reman Larson, etc. That’s just the reality of being a successful team. I still maintain the Florida Panthers are better. They’re they’re they’re better than they were last season and the added Brad Marian and that third line is just so devastating. We’ll see about Lester Rainan here. Um, not having Heyman is a is is awful for the Edmonton. There’s there’s no two ways about it. Um that that’s that’s massive for the Edmonton, not that they can’t overcome it. I mean, the one thing about Edmonton here that we didn’t see last season, and this is where I look at the Oilers and I say they have more than a good chance here to win the Stanley Cup, everybody has their role. Everybody has their spot. Everybody has their job. And the most important thing is nobody has boo about it. You know, how many times have you said, “You know what? It’s not going to you’re not going to have top six spot here anymore. now we made these trades at deadline. We need you to do this in the bottom six and like okay I’ll do it but they kind of halfass it along the way. I’m looking at Victor Arbertson last night along the boards. Like you look at the board play of Victor Arverson. You’re not saying like if you take the name bar off and you put you know Ryan Smith’s name bar on there like that’s like Ryan Smith along the boards like Arvidson was fantastic last night in board play and we think of Arvdson we think like open ice and 35 goals and it’s a all these guys have accepted new roles and they understand that everyone’s contributing and that’s and that’s why at the end of anything whether it’s a conference final or Stanley Cup final everybody feels like they’ve won something because they’ve all done something and when you have a situation like that then you start talking about the Stanley Cup and everybody is pulling on the rope. That’s where you start to say, “Okay, this is soap and warm water time. We really have a chance at this thing.” I don’t know if it’s like more looking at Vegas and Dallas being like they’re a lot further than they think or Edmonton’s just figured out some formula that happened off of a bad coaching challenge and they’ve just kind of clicked in to god mode and and they’ve been nothing short of fantastic. People are going to argue and say, “Well, games three and four in LA, you know, we’re still or not in LA, but in that LA series were still like tough games.” I’m like, they’ve they weren’t tough games. LA was sitting back trying to hold the lead. Uh they’ve been nothing short of fantastic and so close to perfect since those first two games uh where they dropped LA. And man, this team, man, wild. They’re just it’s a different animal. A little bit older, a little bit slower, but a little bit bigger. And uh I feel like that physicality is wearing on teams and they’re just not they don’t seem nervous at any moment of the game. And that’s the biggest thing, biggest difference from the past few years of this team. There’s just no nerves. They are just calm, cool, and collected in the moment. And that’s what you get, man. And they just kind of dogwalk Dallas for five games. Crazy. They’re giving up like no shots late in games when they’re in the lead. like they’re giving up under 10 shots a period, holding a twogoal lead in a series clinching game. That shows me that they’re ready. And it feels a lot different this time around. Feels like we belong. Last year, I don’t know, it was obviously fantastic, but it felt like they had, it’s going to sound harsh, but like achieved their goal already, you know, where like last night it was like, “No, we’re good. Let’s shake these guys hands, grab that trophy, take it to the room, FaceTime Hyman, get on the plane, practice tomorrow, boys. Let’s get going here. That’s what it felt like to me. It was all business. And the other thing, too, is like last year, like by it almost felt like by the time the cup final started, they were down two nothing. Yeah. We’re so excited. We’re And I mean, I’m maybe even talking a little bit too much of like you and I personally, but I was like, “Okay, we’re down to Florida media day. Oh my god, Stanley Cup final. Look at the patches on the jerseys. This is sweet.” And then it was like, “Oh we’re back in Edmonton. They’re down two nothing.” And oh now they’re down three nothing. Oh boy. And this year doesn’t have that feel. It’s going to start on home ice. They got to come in come into our building. Mhm. And again, just hearing everything the Oilers had to say after the game. Like part of it is, you know, you’re you’re trained to say the right things. I get that. But there’s a vibe. There’s a confidence here with this group. That’s different. It’s different. Yeah. I don’t think they were told to say anything either. I think it’s just like I think this team has an objective. It is uh like McDavid is leading the way on it too. Like that everyone knows what they they’re there to do and everyone’s showing up and last night I think was just a fantastic game by the Oilers. Obviously a great start and just every time Dallas thought they had clawed their way back into the game goal happens again goal happens again big save you know it’s just it didn’t matter and that’s what the whole series was besides game one the Oilers just punching back instantly and knocking down the Dallas Stars. With more experience, stronger depth, and elite performances from Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Stuart Skinner, the Oilers have grown into a more complete and composed team compared to last year. Their path through the Western Conference showed resilience, smart coaching from Kris Knoblauch, and contributions from up and down the lineup.
Today, Tyler and Liam broke down the Oilers’ return to the Final, what’s changed since last year’s playoff run, and why this team looks more ready than ever to bring the Stanley Cup back to Edmonton.

It looks different. They’ve dominated two series in a row.
Dallas and Vegas never really put them under much pressure. Florida will for sure, so we will find out more about the team in this series – I don't think that they will be able to dominate like they did against Dallas/Vegas. They responded well to a difficult situation against LA but Florida is a different beast to LA. If they give up two easy games to Florida its all over. They need to be dialled in right from game 1.
Arvidson on the boards – man! that guy's tough eh?
Corey Perry, the worm, the legend and we love him.❤️🇨🇦🏒
I remember Holloway and broberg walked away lol but I feel for ceci he part of us. They traded him to make room for Holloway and bro. If they accept the friendly deal But both went to the money🤷🏼♂️ and bowman went out there and traded for podzy, claims kapenen
I bet connor wanted all the rematches. Only 1 left is the jets to dismantle but they probably just dismantled themselves. Love the playoffs because the "elite goalies" like otter and helle get exposed. They look super elite because if great defense.now you see it happening to stuart skinner. Edm good defense=an elite goalie
Florida are going to stack 5 guys in front of Bob and hope Edmonton offence doesn’t get through. If Edmonton matches Florida defensive team game, Edmonton in 6 😮
The real Oilers fans knew Edmonton was going to come out of the gate slow at the beginning of the playoffs because of all their injuries. We haven’t had a full roster in two months or so and Kane being out all season was going to make a Huge difference. 😮
last season, they squeaked in, and clearly the Cinderella type story. This year is different 100
Its the same team boys with the same garbage goaltending and poor defenders in nurse and bouch. Gonna go up a huge notch in competition against the cup champs and get exposed. Panthers in 6 , they are built much better.
One interesting thing is that Florida has been, relatively speaking, quite pedestrian at home so far these playoffs. They're dominant on the road, but at home they are 4-3 and don't even have a positive goal differential. Meanwhile Edmonton has been utterly dominant at home and pretty good on the road.
2 wins in Edmonton 1 in Florida come back and win in Edmonton oilers in 5 . Honestly place your bets then come back to this comment and thank me .
There have been a couple of lapses for the Oilers this year that cost them game 3 against Vegas and game 1 against Dallas but for the most part the whole team seems to be playing with a passion that has not always been there. They seem hungry this year and will not give Florida a 3 game head start. Florida will have to beat them this year because they will not beat themselves. It will be a great final.
The issue is that Panthers have some extra privilege, eg, running goalies without any serious repercussions. I fully expect them to run Skins and Davo early, and maybe get 2 minutes.
Who this guy 🤣 in the middle…. Oilers are better than last year, Simple put, Oikers Will take this series Mr negative! 🤣 🛢️🛢️🛢️🛢️
