MULTIPLE Phoenix Suns Updates…

A major report just dropped on the Phoenix Suns, giving us multiple updates on the team and their plans for this off seasonason, diving into the potential of a Kevin Durant trade. But not only just that, looking at the future of the Suns head coaching search and one of their star players who has been a key focal point for this head coaching search as well, which I think is very key and important for the franchise to be making this known. So, we’re going to be diving in and exploring all of these updates from this latest report from Mark Stein here relating to the Phoenix Suns on this episode of Suns Digest. Without further ado though, we’re going to dive in and we’re going to get into today’s video. So, make sure to grab that snack and let’s dive into it. First part that we’re going to be discussing and talking about is very interesting for the Phoenix Suns and that is revolving around the head coaching search. Now, we do know that there have been five/6 finalist named for this head coaching search. Five of those guys being Jordan A, Johnny Bryant, Sean Sweeney, Chris Quinn, and Dave Bliss with the sixth one being David Fisdale, the Sun’s exass assistant head coach or part who was the Sun’s assistant head coach last season, excuse me. For David Fisdale, there hasn’t been any reporting by Gamble or Mark Stein rounding him, but surrounding the other candidates, we did see an update today courtesy of Mark Stein from his substack where we see that Dallas’s John Sweeney, Miami’s Chris Quinn, and the Cleveland duo of John Jordan A and Johnny Bryant had in-person interviews this week with the Suns and Brian Gregory. We also did know as well that Oklahoma City’s Dave Bliss also remains in contention while he still is working in the playoffs with this final with the finals bound Thunder. An interview would likely have to take place in in Oklahoma City given that Bliss’s coaching commitments are already with that Thunder team, but we also do know that is kind of key. Like I mentioned, no mention of David Fdale in this, but I expect the Suns to kind of keep this head coaching search alive for the next week, potentially even two, three weeks until the playoffs do fizzle out, which could be a little bit concerning as we get closer to the draft and closer to free agency and really figure out what this true identity or alignment that this front office and coaching staff and roster is truly going to have. But I do think it will start to take place. And I think they’ve already had those kind of conversations within their organization, which I think is very key for the Phoenix Suns. And once again, finding this new head coach, like we mentioned, as they interviewed, you know, five previous uh assistant head coaches with David Fisdale. They’re looking for that new identity, looking for that change. I’m not the biggest favor of a David Fizzdale signing over the fact that it wouldn’t signify change within this team that they promised for us and we already really haven’t seen that in the front office. So, I’d like to see that in the coaching staff. So, I do want to see someone else to hire than David Fisdale, but it is nice to see these little updates revolving around the coaching searches. This was the first point of attack for the Phoenix Suns this off season. So, let me know your thoughts down on that and let’s get into the next part here, which is great ultimately in my opinion. And I know that some Suns fans have some mixed feelings about this, but I want to let you know why this is the right situation for the Phoenix Suns as we see a little bit of an update here from Mark Stein as well relating to that coaching search as the Sun star Devin Booker has had a lot of level has at a level of involvement with candidates in the stage of interviews further illustrating owner Matt Ishbia’s loudly stated detrimention to keep Booker in place as this team’s cornerstone. It’s believed Ishbia will have face-to-face discussions next week with the candidates likely too who will progress from this round and we’ll even get closer and closer to figuring out who is going to be in this final wave of interviews. We’re still not in that final wave yet. Maybe it will be guys like Chris Quinn and Johnny Bryant, maybe a Sean Sweeney as those have all had some really good interviews courtesy of Gambo. But I think this is key, right? We all know regardless of how you feel about Deon Booker, he is the franchise star player of this Sun’s team and should be recognized with that, right? as that cornerstone taking over the being the franchise leading scorer in points. And I think this is the right direction for the Phoenix Suns. Not only did Matt Matt Ishbia make it known that he would like to have Deon Booker involved in this head coaching search, but it’s coming out now that it is. And I think this is key for the Phoenix Suns. You look back at a team in the Milwaukee Bucks who did something similar with Giannis Antmpo and Adrien Griffin hire a coach that he did like and even though the outcome was not the best as Griffin was fired halfway through the season, I do believe this is the best decision for the team. These superstars are, you know, key vocal pieces of this locker room, of this identity, of this team’s culture. And Booker obviously being here for 10 plus seasons already for this Phoenix Suns team has made sure that he is the center of the uh attraction for Phoenix Suns fans. So, making sure that this is happening and he doesn’t get into quarrels with a head coach like he did with Mike Benhoer last season where he was told to tone it down vocally, I think is a key thing to make sure not happen once again this season. And with them having Devin Booker a part of this head coaching search, I do believe that that will eliminate any problems that he does have with any of the with the star players. And this coaching search will be a little bit easier for the Phoenix Suns. Also a little bit more identif identifiable for this team to really figure out what they what direction they really want to go with Devin Booker. And it’s clear and kind of been said all season that Booker is untouchable. He’s not going to get traded. And that sentiment once again is still resonating. So I think that is key. I like that Devin Booker is being a part of this voice for this head coaching search. Just once again, getting your star players involved is just another step of making sure they feel safe and secure in the city that they are growing in. For Devin Booker, he has taken this city of Phoenix from the bottom all the way to the top when he was drafted and then has obviously held them at the top going to the finals, but then obviously has slipped back. So, the Suns obviously looking to get back to those promised places with their main guy and Booker as he once did it in the past in 2021. And they feel confident he can do that once again with the right team around him. And I truly do feel that the Phoenix Suns, maybe not this season, but in a year, two, maybe even three, could do that once again with Deon Booker at the helm. So, let me know your thoughts. I’m very, very ecstatic about this. Once again, as a huge Devin Booker fan, I want him to stay in Phoenix. I think it would be really really bad if they did trade away their franchise player after he just broke their franchise scoring record the season previous and a little bit of a reshuffle of this roster. And I do think making sure that Booker is that identity still already is a key thing for Phoenix. And then lastly, we have some more updates revolving around the Kevin Durant trade saga and what this could mean for the Phoenix Suns as Mark Stein had another little inkling of reporting here revolving around that. talking about Kevin Durant’s future in the desert and he says the expectation persists that Durant will ultimately reach the trade market this off seasonason but it might not happen until there is clarity on whether Giannis Anttompo will be staying in Milwaukee or seeking a trade of Ion the Suns appear poised to hire a firsttime head coach and only adding to the belief leaguewide that Phoenix will eventually explore Durant’s trademark in collaboration with the future hall of famer now we all know why the Phoenix Suns are going to have to do this right they’re in the second apron salary strapped cannot trade off Brad the Bill’s contract it looks So even with waving Veli Misich and Cody Martin’s trade team option and non-G guaranteed deals dropping into the first apron, the Phoenix Suns are still going to have some obstacles to once again build this roster into a solid form with also not getting back into the second apron. But if they do keep Durant, but also finding a difficult time to fill out these roster spots as even with waving Vicil and Martin keeping Durant, this team has seven guys on the roster, which is clearly not enough to run with a full team. That is what half of an NBA roster even though they do have some draft picks. They will probably select some guys to stay in the Valley at picks 29 and at pick 53. I do expect the Phoenix Suns to explore a Kevin Durant trade. And one team that has kind of popped up recently is the Timberwolves. We looked at that in a recent video, but obviously they could be a team that’s interested in Durant. They had significant interest in Durant in February when they tried to trade him. And the question is, have they identified that they would like to bring Kevin Durant? Now, if you want to check out what the Suns could really get in a return for that video, go check the other one. But once again, Durant’s really question mark with this Phoenix Suns team still rides on the decision of Giannis Anttompo. Obviously, Giannis being more in his prime at 30 years old, being on a more secure contract, he would seem to be that premier all-star that everybody would be looking to kind of pry away as a top two, three, five player in the NBA, whatever you see him as. Now Kevin Durant obviously still has that great legacy still at his 37 years old of age but obviously getting older is going to net a smaller return. So if a team is positioned to put themselves in the Giannis sweep stakes if he does go in and force a trade but feels uncomfortable in either offering up so much maybe they do look to pivot for a Durant deal or if Giannis does not hit the trade market and does stay in Milwaukee then Durant still puts himself out there as that number one clear face. Now, the Suns could still find a possible way, right, to keep Kevin Durant and keep this roster intact if they do still if they fail to do so. If they’re able to trade off a Bradley Bill contract or something like that or if they are to get some salary relief from a stretcher wave and sign Kevin Durant Durant. But ultimately, like Mark Stein has been saying, he thinks that Durant will ultimately be traded. I think it’s the only way for the Phoenix Suns to really get out of this first apron hell that they are in. taking away two $50 million contracts, bringing in some small supplementary contracts to really fill in those roles, and then ultimately using those contracts to kind of once again either bridge for another trade in the future to combine some of those salaries or to have movable flexible salaries for this team to make moves in the in the middle of the season, unlike they were able to do this season with a Jimmy Butler trade and moving some smaller deals and bringing in maybe one or two guys that could help fill out the roster in positions of need. Once again, that was the update revolving around the Phoenix Suns today, courtesy of Mark sign. We know the Suns have interviewed five of their four of their five guys that they’re said to interview. We don’t really know much about David Vizdale from the fact that Mark Spears was the only one to report it. We do know that Deon Booker is also involved in that heaven in that head coach search, which I really do appreciate. And we also found out that Kevin Durant could potentially still be moved following a Giannis onto Kmpo trade. And we’ll have to see what that market looks like to really figure out the Durant market. as we’ve kind of expect Durant I don’t think will be traded before the 20 before free agency we think he will be traded after which will put the Suns into the 2025 2026 calendar year which will also think make make things a little bit easier and flexible when performing a trade all due to the fact that those players are on a one less year guaranteed deal and have some less money coming back.
