Marist Liufau: A Lot More Energy | Dallas Cowboys 2025

Have you had a head coach that wears a backward visor in practice before? No. No. This is my first one. Yeah. Yeah. So, what do you make kind of of his uh coaching style in his I mean, I love it. I love his his he’s just his that’s his personality. I love that he is who he is. Um kind of has that swagger and just brings it to the table every day. And um yeah, you love that for a head coach just showing you who they are and showing you that they’re ready to work and that they’re going to show up to work and have that energy to to get better. How different does it feel? Just like what do you mean? I mean just from like a Michael practice to what shot he brings? I mean, I feel like the the players from the players standpoint at least, like running to the ball, there’s a lot more energy um and emphas emphasis on running to the ball, getting to the football as a uh as a defense and attacking the ball really. Um emphasizing tech takeaways and things like that. The culture has been a big topic. What do you think this ping pong table and the other changes like that are bringing to this? Yeah. Um, it’s making me a better ping pong uh player for sure. But no, it’s a fun atmosphere in the locker room and we get to compete against each other on the ping pong table. But something a little fun, just a little fun thing we do between meetings and things like that. Does it kind of make certain guys that might not otherwise interact kind of mix in with each other and Yeah. grow closer? Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I definitely say it brings the guys together. What gives you the most competition to um right now? Probably. Yeah. What did you work on this offseason? About you individually? Um, me individually, I worked on I think I worked on my speed the most, just doing a lot of a lot more sprints than I would usually do. Matt Fus is a linebacker guy. What have you kind of picked up from him here early on in your time together? uh kind of what I said earlier that uh effort um running to the football that just the standard of play is what I really picked up first of all from from coach Fouse and kind of his philosophy um as a defense before we even get into plays and things like that. Just the way we play football. What was the message from the coaches when the new coaching staff came in? I’m sure they had a whole bunch of team meetings and addressed you guys as a group. What was sort of the message of what they wanted to build here culturally? Um, what I got at least was just a team that’s that’s very close. Uh, team that supports each other no matter what on and off the field, shows up for one another, and um team that’s that has one goal and we’re going to we’re going to work to get to work towards that goal. Uh, Coach Shotti said earlier today that uh he was asked about the Super Bowl drought and said, you know, uh, I think we might win this year. I think so. Um, what kind of what does that do to have that kind of confidence from the coach? Um, like like I said earlier, just that energy, that mindset, it’s infectious to the players and so I think we feed off of it for sure. Um, we come in here and our head coach is ready to go. So, we know that we’re going to get that from him. So, we’re going to show up too to to be there to sorry to work with him as well. Yeah. Thank you guys. Appreciate it.
