Andrew Siciliano: Why the Pittsburgh Pirates Should NOT Trade Paul Skenes | The Rich Eisen Show
Brockman, I told that you have statistical evidence of something for us. I do. Paul Ske did something and it’s old genetw worthy. Hit it. Old Gen Stats. [Music] Uh Paul SK good at the baseball. Uh however, lost yesterday. Uh the Astros beat the Pirates 3 nothing. Paul Ske, this is courtesy of Jhkid on Twitter. Paul Ske joined an illustrious group of seven now. pitchers to lose twice in a single season, win starting eight plus innings, only giving up one run. Uh, one walk or less, and eight plus strikeouts. Paul Skins joins a list of Ed Walsh in 1910, Walter Johnson in 1913, Mike Prenderrst in 1914, and Jim Bunning 1967, Mike Scott 1986, and Pedro Martinez in 2000. Pitchers to do this twice in a year. It’s only June 3rd. Can we get Paul Ski some help, please? Yes, that is the question we should be asking. Not the should they trade Paul skins because they’re not good and there’s nobody in the building. Don’t ask that question. Please don’t ask that question. Like get him some help. Don’t trade him. You know when Paul Skees is eligible for free agency? Like 2032. 2029. That too. We may not be here by like an asteroid. Like we may not be here. Paul Skins is eligible for free agency in 2029. Don’t trade him. I’m not a pirate fan. Like I don’t have any like soft spot in my heart for pirate fans, but I am a fan of a smaller market baseball team. If you trade Paul Skins now, like you just don’t care about winning ever. Build around him. Build around him. That’s why you take this guy at the top of the draft to build around him. He’s a once in a 50 year pitcher. Auction him off after two years. No. Jason Stark from The Athletic will be here in 30 minutes probably to tell me that I’m wrong, but we’ll ask him about it. It’s the Rich Eisen Show, everybody. It’s happened three times since 1967. So, he he entered last night’s start with a 215 ERA. Yeah. Strikeout to walk ratio. You ready for this? Before last night, what was his line last night? Uh he went eight with uh 1k uh one walk uh one run 8ks, right? 8ks. So his strikeout to walk ratio is now 85-9. He was seven scoreless and gave up a solo home run in eight. 85 to 19 in 82 innings. you’re going to trade him. So, here’s where this comes from. Other than like the obvious, they’re no good and all the big market teams are like, “You think we can get them?” Like the dodgers or any other team, the Mets, TJ, you mentioned the Mets, anybody like, “Hey, what do we have to like we’ll give you everything? You have to give up like a dozen guys. The Nationals traded Sodo to the Padres’s for half of Southern California. It It worked out okay, right, CJ Abrams?” Yeah, sure. Skings would get more more more than Sodo. No, for sure. Jeff Pass said not a pitcher. Jeff Pass said there are no comparable pitchers who have been traded with two years of within two years of their major league debut. So interested teams know that they would have to make a Godfather deal, right? An absolute Godfather deal. But he didn’t. He basically said they’re not going to do it, but I understand why you would think about it. and I’m paraphrasing, like if you think about it, if you do the deal and you run the Pirates, it is not reasonable to expect a fan to come to your ballpark the rest of the year. I know that’s dramatic. I know, you know, look at look at the Mavericks. Fans will come back eventually. Paul Ske is not Luca, right? Paul Skins has not taken them on his back to a World Series. Luca obviously took the Mavs on his back to an NBA finals. Finals plural, not final, different sport, but he’s the reason you go. He’s the reason, by the way, on Paul Ski’s bobblehead day back in April that you saw the overhead the bridges, right? Like bumper to bumper. I’m I’m shouldertoshoulder, right? And yesterday was a skins day and he was unbelievable. There were less than 16,000 people at the game. Yeah. What are we doing? I mean, guys, this has been going on in Pittsburgh since n the mid9s. Like, yeah, but they haven’t had the guy like this. Well, they look they had Barry Bonds and I know, but this is an event at once a week and people aren’t going. You know whose fault it is clearly in Pittsburgh? Aaron Rogers. Aaron Rogers. Yeah. Catch the Rich Eisen Show live weekdays from 12 to 3:00 p.m.

Bob's gotta sell the team
If you have little fans to when your superstar player is on rotation on a bad team you sell. No good farm, no good big leaguers, most likely a bad culture in the stadium, flush it all out
I can't believe Nolan Ryan isn't on Brockman's list a few times. He was on a bevy of bad teams.
bruvs an alien.
Thank you Andrew
You don't have to worry because the Pirates are not trading Paul Skenes no matter what people like Passan or Olney or Stark want to cry about him 'needing' to be in NY or LA cos they want to make their agent friends happy
I grew up a Pirates fan (I'm 62) when they were great. I HATE this franchise now and because Skenes is a good dude, I hope that they trade him. Auction him for old dudes that have already had arm surgeries, some 33-year-old .231 hitters and some magic beans.
He should get traded. They owe him for all the bs that comes with playing for that organization . No run support and a cheap owner 😂
He’s not going to be a Free Agent until 2029, trade him in 2028.
If the pirates are going to continue their malpractice of him they should be forced to trade him. They’re wasting him
Longtime Bucco fan here. Thank you for stating the obvious! Trading him this soon is throwing in the towel. The Pirates are poorly run, so please just let us enjoy this guy while we can.
Paul Skenes is a much younger, much healthier Jacob deGrom. He's the only reason to pay any attention to the Pirates at all. I feel sorry for him.
If the Pirates trade Skenes before his walk year then the fans should boycott the games until they sell the team.
The Pirates are part of the problem with MLB. Teams who just exist to make money. I know all of them are businesses. The difference is some teams try to win and increase market share . Others are content to milk the local fanbase and dont care if the team is any good.
Not even a Pirates fan, SELL THE TEAM BOB NUTTING
Just to play devils advocate: the last 2 pitchers I remember this dominant this young; Jose Fernandez and Matt Harvey. Life comes at you fast. Not many pitchers hold up and remain dominant for a decade plus. The best option is for the Pirates to spend money n build around him, BUT, they haven’t shown an interest in doing that. If that’s the case, look for the mega deal because there’s no higher value (outside of Shohei) in the mlb. Call Boston about Anthony, Mayer, n more… call the Tigers about Jobe, Clark, McGonigle n more. Call Baltimore about Mayo, Holliday, Kjerstad, n more. Get enough to build a competitive team and hope Bubba Chandler is an ace to replace him. The fans are already not really showing up because they’re mad at the lack of team building, so go ahead n go all-in on pissing them off in the hopes you come out the other side with talent all over the field.
Get him some help….no kidding. That’s the point: they aren’t going to get him some help.
