They played Mukh a lot on his offside (as a right defenseman) last season.
I see him as 2nd pair d-man not a 7th on the team.
He's good on the outlet pass.
He has a wicked shot, if you want him on the point.
He's also solid defensively.
I'd personally pair him with Cagnoni going forward.
Sharks have several right shot D in the pipeline, not saying any of them make the big show. But they still have yet to make their pro debut as most are one to two years away from the pros.
Quick comment, like the signing of Muk. Both for the Sharks and for Muk.
Muk's injuries derailed his season and thus a good payday. If he signed anything other than what he did he would be leaving money on the table. He was playing his best hockey when he got injured the second time.
Had he stayed healthy I think this contract would have been much sweeter. I believe he has confidence in his abilities (which I think he should) and will make an impact on the Sharks next season.
Thus getting a more lucrative contract in both AAV and term next offseason. In this way I think GMMG did Muk a solid.
For the Sharks, they ensure they have a motivated player that will respond and learn better to protect himself (and his paycheck and career). Muk will he highly motivated to prove he belongs and I think once his rehabilitation is completed, work harder than he ever has to get right for next season.
As to Fabbro. I sense fools gold here. The Sharks could have acquired him on waivers. They were the worst team in the NHL and got the first shot at him and passed him up. With their issues on defense last season they could have used him big time.
But they said nope! Why? I think because his numbers got inflated last season once he was picked up with him playing with a defensive partner that he benefited from. That will not be the case if they sign him and no one else.
I think he will revert back to his previous season when he was more of a liability than a benefit. But, if they do sign a player like Gavrikov (my top choice defensive FA) and pair him with him they might have something.
Odds are they passed up on him when he was on the waiver wire (and got him for nothing) and will pass on him again in free agency unless they are out of their primary options. Just an opinion.
