San Jose’s Rumor Mill FRENZY Has Fans on Edge | What’s Mike Grier Cooking?
the Sharks want to trade up and they’re in on Martin we’re officially in rumor mill season you’re Locked on Sharks your daily podcast on the San Jose Sharks part of the Locked On Network your team every day hello welcome to Locked on Sharks the premier hockey podcast covering your favorite team in the Bay Area my name is JD Young caretaker at the reef also the co-host of Locked on NHL want to thank you for making Lockown Sharks your first listen proudly part the Lockdown Network we cover your team every day and if you want to be an everyday all you have to do is just follow wherever you get podcast or you can watch on YouTube as well and today we are getting caught up on the rumor mill um as it’s officially uh silly season smoke screen season whatever you want to call it um we’re going to be kind of going through some of the bigger rumors involving the Sharks uh plus we’re also going to talk about uh Sam Dickinson as his London Knights um yeah they did the thing so um let’s go ahead and start with uh we’re going to start with the trading up right um as we’re we’re we’re first of all before we get to this we are um this is combine week this is the first time actually all off seasonason where we will have all the GMs and agents uh and all the big important people in the NHL all together in the same area right and normally we would get this time and then you would get it at the draft right as everyone kind of comes in before the draft um has their kind of usually with their final meetings with players they also talk with agents with free agency right with the decentralized draft this is it this is it this year is this one time uh where everybody’s in the same place right and even with the Panthers and Oilers who are still playing in the the you know the playoffs here they’re still going to have representation at the combine as their agents and stuff do work towards uh you know with agents and scouts and everything like that they’re still doing all their offseason prep work right um so you have to take everything with a grain of salt we’re going to we’re going to kind of determine how salty um the these two big ones are so uh just because again GMs and everybody is they’re all playing the game of trying to position themselves so that way they can win whatever theoretical trade whatever signing whatever they’re trying to do it’s all part of the game so uh of course uh let’s start with with David Pagona uh who actually both these are from the same article from David Pagnona of the fourth period um he discuss or he wrote that um the San Jose Sharks are he wouldn’t be shocked if the San Jose Sharks um holding the second Royal selection make an attempt to move up to draft Matthew Schaefer um Dar did indicate um they plan on moving forward the first overall pick um etc right this is what you would expect i’m sure Mike Greer even had conversations last year he even said right of you know people listening to people making a pitch for the first overall pick last year when it was Mwin Celabbrini and my career of course politely declined all of those um all of you know play declined every offer right because they wanted to get Mac on celebrini it would I would be more worried if my career didn’t try to at least make an offer to move up to the first overall pick and I would be you know the same thing my career should also be listening to offers for the second overall pick and see if something out just comes out there that blows your socks away um does this mean I think Mike Greer trades to get the first overall pick maybe most likely not right uh because I believe even if if you have Misa and you have Schaefer pretty equal and you know if from everybody I I’ve talked to right most people do have Schaefer as the number one pick um in the draft and we’ll probably know more as we get closer to it um as Dar is again still trying to like you know decorate his office and get settled into his new role as the Islanders GM but like it it would be more worrisome if Mike Gert wasn’t doing his due diligence to see at least see what the cost would be right and this time of year like there’s still a couple weeks away from the draft everyone’s just going to you know like we’re not going to get super serious offers right now because there’s still you know three week three plus weeks to the draft so um all the fake trades uh where you see these Sharks having to give up you know William Ecklund and you know whatever else to move up one pick like guys we are we are again we are in silly season right now okay mike Greer is not going to blow up every like Professor Hockey tweeted it perfectly he’s not going to tear down everything that he’s built for the past couple years to move up one pick and yes I for some reason I have a gut feeling the Sharks end up with Schaefer and that could just be what I think right now on June 2nd uh as I’m recording this on June 2nd I have a gut feeling that they end up with Schaefer one way or another maybe that’s also me wish casting too a little bit because I I I like Schaefer a lot i think he would answer a lot of problems but if the Sharks get Misa that’s perfectly awesome as well but these like outrageous trade scenarios of like the Sharks have to give up like Musty and Ekan and like seven picks or whatever it is like guys again the return is probably going to be much different than what we expect right and you can go back to look just look at the trades that Mike Greer has made right the team Omire trade right a lot of people were like “Oh maybe they’ll you know like look at kind of some of the picks and stuff that they might get or some of the potential NHL players.” And we got you know Fabian Zetelin who was kind of an underutilized player with the uh with the Devils and grew into a different role here and you know we we know what happened there you got Shakir Muka Madullan who we knew was going to be a project and we’re starting to kind of see the you know that start to come to fruition now and you got a first round pick and a second round pick and the first round pick Sharks got lucky and got Quinton Musty right and who we feel and for some reason a lot of fans already were just ready to trade Quinton Musty away for some reason I have no idea why but anyway um like you I just I if there is a trade It’s probably going to involve like a mid round like a mid-level prospect some picks right for a Islanders team that just doesn’t have much in the cupboard um and everyone will go about their day but um again for the Isisles we don’t know what they want right we we don’t know what it’s going to be maybe they’re just letting this everyone talk about Schaefer and they’re doing their homework on Misa and they’re doing their homework on Hagens and Arton and whomever else because they feel like they a number one center and there’s questions about whether uh I mean there’s questions about if Mis is going to be number one center there’s questions about if if Schaefer is going to be a number one defenseman but like again there’s a lot a lot of of smokec screen and just a lot of kind of maneuvering and stuff like that and the other thing too right is the like project potentially trading William i get it like but I don’t see Mike Greer doing that right like you have a young very good NHL player i think until he signs his extension there’s going to be a little bit of worry about what Mike Greer does with with William Aquin going forward and if he is a potential trade asset but why would you trade a known commodity in William Ecklan who’s just still kind of scratching the surface of what he’s going to be and projects to be pretty close to a point per game player here sooner rather than later for Ekkan like would you be surprised if Ekkund next year is around that like 75 point mark especially in a Sharks offense that we think is potentially going to take a big step with Celibbraney and Smith in year two and you know whatever pieces they add this summer including maybe Mitch Martner who we’re going to talk about here in a couple minutes but like why would why would Mike Greer do that to move up for Matthew Schaefer who I think is going to be awesome but there’s still a lot of question marks about who he’s going to be right for a guy who’s played you know less than 30 games last year um in in the OHL so um yes there’s a world where micro trades up there’s a world where micro trades back but like I I just I again we are in silly season mode right now um so just take a deep breath let’s we’ll ride you know what’s what have I said that like just ride the line right the line with it um and yeah we’re not trading uh Eklan and Musty and you know Sherav and every pick every prospect who’s starting to kind of you know bud into something right now uh to move up one spot in the draft especially when there isn’t a clear-cut number one player and you can get Michael Misa at number two and have a really great time as well so uh we’re going to talk about Mitch Mner here next and why again Mike should be doing his due diligence just to see uh if Mitch Mner wants to be a San Jose Shark uh we’ll get to that here in just one second if you’re looking for a snack that’s both delicious and nutritious you need to check out the good source of protein that is wonderful pistachios wonderful sach is one of the highest you guys for making the locked on Sharks your first listen um if you haven’t yet perfect time to subscribe uh be an everydayer right come back every day even sometimes like maybe like today where there might be two episodes today as we continue to get you ready for free agency and for uh the draft uh more free agent profiles more draft profiles coming along so make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube as well all right from the same article we hear the San Jose Sharks also interested in Mitch Marner uh Mner who’s going to feels like have half the league interested in his service as you don’t uh always see 100 point players coming uh you know available ver uh very uh coming available via free agency and again I say I’d be more worried if my career wasn’t doing his due diligence do I think the Sharks sign Mitch Martyr no I don’t think the Sharks end up signing Mitch Mner that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t at least have a meeting right and of course with Martner there’s a lot of great ties with you know Joe Thornton and Patrick Marlo who both spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs now are affiliated with the uh back working with the Sharks in some way or form uh you know whether officially or unofficially in Joe Thornton’s case whatever his title is or isn’t um as the director of Vibes but um right like for for Mner and for my career right this is setting up for my career is he you know the one thing he really hasn’t had to do is make these pitches to prospective top-of-the-line free agents and yes he signed Tarfo and Taro is a good player but like you know at some point here in the next couple years you the hope is Mike Greer lands a big free agent to help move the rebuild along and not you know every team like every team isn’t just built up of homegrown guys right you have to have free agents you have to have like it’s it’s nearly impossible to build up a entirely homegrown team and whether you work through trades or free agents right and this was always the thing GM Doug Wilson could never do right is never he could never land that one big fish free agent all the years that he tried right um you know you look at John Tiverus of course back at his big free agency uh where he ended up going to the Leafs um right and that was the summer where they and Doug Wilson did what he does really well which is turn around and trade for somebody and got Eric Carlson right um but for my career right just getting in the room and being able to make your pitch and you bring in you know Patrick Marlo and you bring in Joe Thornton and you talk about how great San Jose is and you start kind of honing that pitch and even if it’s just if if this whole thing is just a practice run for Mike Greer right uh when you do meet a a big-time free agent and you know Mitch Martner again the biggest free agent out there since probably John Tiveres um I think that that shows where the Sharks are starting to go just to even to be able to be to get in the room right and there’s plenty of teams who I don’t think like much better teams than the Sharks who I don’t think are even potentially going to get a meeting and we don’t even know if the Sharks do get a meeting with Mitch Martner but you know the Sharks have a lot of stuff that would be really intriguing to Mitch Martner right um they have a lot of cap space they have a really fun young core that’s only going to get better um and you’re going to be playing in San Jose where you don’t have to deal with the limelight of Toronto right there’s like four beat reporters in San Jose um if that like instead of like 15 or 20 that Toronto has um you know just playing just a little bit different lifestyle and maybe that’s what Mner’s looking for who knows again do I think the Sharks sign Mitch Mner no do I think Mitch Martner is a great player yes are there questions about his playoff performances in the past 100% but as I’ve stated before with with the Sharks and Mitch Martyr let’s focus on playing 500 hockey first before we worry about how a guy performs in the playoffs uh for you and you know like it’s it’s yes there will always be questions about Mitch Marty until he does the thing um and if he can be a playoff performer and stuff but like I mean I don’t know man that Toronto microscope that is uh you know whatever they got going on over there that seems like a lot to handle man and it’s on all the time and like that would probably get to me too right if everything you did uh like that got critiqued to the eenth degree yeah it would probably start to worry on me a little bit too so um and start to kind of get to your head a little bit too so who knows but again um I do think though the Sharks should should at least entertain the thought and may like I said I don’t think it’s a really good fit right now because of where the Sharks are at with their rebuild um but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t just like all of a sudden just be like um nope we’re not doing this we don’t really want to have a meeting with him etc like that just that doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Sharks um because again Mike Greer is doing everything in his power to try to make this a better hockey team this year he said it right we these are words that came out of Mike Greer’s mouth we have to start building something um especially after last year and how disappointing last year was and the pain that the Sharks went through at the trade deadline um they have to start building something and Marner is a huge huge building block and yes there would be def definite repercussions and you know what he would bring to San Jose good and bad but he is a very talented hockey player and the Sharks are a team that just needs more talented hockey players on its roster right now so um yeah I’m not surprised that these Sharks are more than willing to make an offer to Mitch Martyr and maybe Mitch Martner sits through the pitch says “Thank you so much for the meal and you know good to see you Jumbo good to see you Patty um thanks a lot but you know I don’t think this is the right time right now.” Cool at least you you know at least you had the meeting you had the conversation with the guy and to see what happens so uh yeah again we’re in rumor season renilly season smokeokesc screen season um it’s fun though so one guy who uh definitely isn’t a rumor about how good he is uh Sam Dickinson uh guys he might have uh he might be he might be ready guys so uh we’re going to talk about Sam Dickinson here in just one second all right and I do want to of course thank you for making locked on Sharks your first listen for your second listen of the day go check out the Locked on HL game night every game every night until a Stanley Cup champion is crowned get local analysis on a national scale find NHL game night on Locked onHL on YouTube wherever you listen to podcast okay um Sam Dickinson first of all congratulations to the Lindon Knights uh they did the thing right um and you don’t really How often do we see a team right where they just miss out right and they lose the Memorial Cup after having a dominant year last year and you kind of do the like we’re doing the last dance thing we’re do getting the band back together um you know and basically most the entire team comes back and they actually pull off the thing right uh the Oilers kind of have a chance to do it this year wi against the the Panthers but um so congrats to them congrats to Sam Dickinson congrats to Casper Halton for going back and doing the thing um but I do want to talk about Sam Dickinson who like I have watched I’ve watched a lot of Sam Dickinson this year um because one watching London is really fun to watch London just kind of kick the crap out of really bad teams um and you you saw especially early in the year Dickinson would you know maybe try to do a little too much here and there and you have some questions about his uh decision making and stuff like that i don’t know how from watching the OHL playoffs watching the Memorial Cup where like the Memorial Cup where like this is these are the four best teams in the CHL like all the CHL right um they’re you know you have the three team you have Medicine Hat who won the WHL and has like an insane roster of you know guys like I don’t know Gavin McKenna who’s going to be the number one pick in next year’s draft that dude is insane um Kayen Lindstöm who was a f you know top four pick in last year’s draft um you know you have the Oasis Wisebot who’s you know been there tanner Mullandike who is like a top you know probably the second or third best defenseman in in the entire Memorial Cup right i guess he was the second best defenseman in the Memorial Cup because like he massive prospect for the PRS um guy I really liked you know when he was uh going through his draft process um I don’t know how you don’t watch what Sam Dickinson just put together and say like “Yeah man send that guy back uh send that guy back to the OHL.” and and unfortunately he is stuck in this like purgatory right of guys who can either go to the NHL or go to the OHL and unfortunately because you know he signed his his ELC before the rules changed he’s not eligible to go to college because college would make a ton of sense for Sam Dickinson right and great job at London go spend a year playing at you know Michigan or Penn State or you know one of the Boston school wherever you want to go buddy like go spend figure playing in in the NCAA we’ll we’ll see you next uh we’ll see you next spring right um but like what Sam Dickinson was asked to do while playing 30 to 35 minutes a night like don’t like let’s just start there the dudes playing 30 to 35 minutes a night um in these high lever situations it’s not like yes there were some games where London you know kind of blew out their opponent but a lot of these the way London clamped down defensively in the playoffs where they were like we’re going to get up you know a goal or two here in the third and we’re going to just force you to have to score on us um and we’ll take advantage of any opportunities that you present us right we’re going to just clamp it down because we believe in our defense we believe in our structure uh and we feel like we have the the forwards who can um stress test you when they get an opportunity but the way Dickinson was just relied on night in night out shift after shift to clamp things down and against some of the best players in the entire CHL right um going back to the Ashawa series Becket Senica who was the third overall pick in the 2024 draft um a surprise to be sure um that Senica went third but um it’s not like Becca Senica didn’t just go out and back it up with a massive season in in the OHL and Dickinson shut him down right like did not give him space uh that guy he just looked flustered didn’t look like himself right and then even in the Memorial Cup uh Daniel who’s uh going to be a top 10 pick in this draft maybe a top five pick Dickinson’s out there every time with him and yes I know these guys are an NHL player but these are like these are the best of the best in the CHL right now you know Gavin McKinna yeah I know McKenna had a sweet goal and Dickinson was out there for that but like we I don’t know man if you hold Gavin McKenna to one goal like that feels like a win to me um but he’s out there making life harder for Gavin McKenna um and not only is he doing that in the defensive zone he’s also having to help drive play offensively um and he does it in the Memorial Cup final with three apples right i know two of them were were uh secondary ones but like he’s making the right play that’s make leading to goals for for London um the third one where he just shuts down uh I think it was Oasis Wise Blat at the blue line just shuts him down pokes the stick the puck away that leads to a breakaway that leads to the third goal like I I just I just don’t know what more you can ask from him in the OHL like I’m I said it the other day i my worry with him going back to the OL is that he develops bad habits but what we’ve seen from in him in the playoffs and the way London has played that’s NHL man that’s NHL hockey right there of you know when we need to shut things down we can shut things down when we need to kind of take advantage of like it wasn’t just runand gun hockey like London’s whole structure basically the entire playoffs and in especially the Memorial Cup for a team that scores as much as London and yes the opponents are much better but they were a more defensive focused team of we believe we just got better dudes on the back end um and Oliver Bon deserve deserves all the credit in the world too cuz he was he was excellent as well but Sam Dickinson is the dude leading the way who’s playing out there basically every other shift if you’re watching the game how often do you hear Dickinson Dickinson with a nice stop dickinson you know erases this guy dickinson doing this dick Dickinson doing this dickinson you know Dickinson pass leading to like and then like I don’t know man i I I just have a hard time seeing him going back to the OHL and maybe he like I said maybe he comes out and in the fir his you know he gets his nine games before his uh contract no longer slides and maybe he comes out and and he just doesn’t look NHL ready but I think you have to get you have to give him a legitimate shot to play NHL games um in the play like NHL games next year and yes the Sharks are going to be good okay so Sam Dickinson’s eventually going to be really good and the quicker he starts playing NHL games I think the quicker he gets to being a very very good uh NHL player so um yeah I I’m 100% like on the I think it’s it’d be really hard um for me to not see Sam Dickinson play uh NHL games next year and we we’ll have you know he’ll I’m sure he’s gonna get a full taste of it with the rookie tournament and I’m sure he’s you know like with preseason games and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s he’s one of the last guys you have to make a decision on but again I’m going to take the Will Smith thing like if he plays in the NHL next year and he gets his butt kicked for a year he’s probably going to be a better player at the end of it than he was if he just went back and and dominated the OHL next year so um but yeah we’ll be back later today as we continue our uh foray into uh NHL free agents we’re going to be looking at three more forwards kind of in that middle class of guys uh who I think would make some sense for the San Jose Sharks so make sure you follow along wherever you get podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube as well uh follow the show on Twitter Facebook and Instagram at Lockdown Sharks follow me on Twitter and Blue Sky Fryhole till later bye friends

Comical seeing all these clowns saying Dickenson on top on #2 + Dallas pick + Edm pick to move up one spot
JD I revisited your offer sheet video with Quinn in it and I really like that idea. I was watching game highlights from buffalo vs Philly and he was outstanding in those two games i recommend watching those game highlights. It puts into perspective what he can bring from a scoring perspective.
I'd be absolutely fine if GMMG has no interest in moving up to 1st overall. It really comes down to this: Misa is the safer pick as forwards are more predictable and he played a lot more games. And his results were fantastic. Schaefer played relatively few games and d-men are harder to predict. But he looked fantastic in that small sample size.
Free Agent Forwards Episode drops at 9AM PT.
I honestly think picking second is kind of a blessing in disguise. There’s pros and cons to drafting either Misa or Schaefer. Both would be phenomenal players on the sharks for different reasons, so walking away from the draft with whoever is there at second is a win.
really liked your insight of GMMG meeting with Marner to, at a minimum, get his big game 'pitchman' skills honed. Agree, this isn't the one he needs to win. But there will come a day when he does need a win and it'll help to have been in that sort of room before.
Dickinson needs to be in the place he develops the most/best. Its not clear because we don't know how he learns. Maybe he has a great d-man coach at London that's a perfect fit for his development. Or maybe he is best served in the NHL, even if it turns out he's in way over his head. But yes, he's really good in the OHL. That assist you mentioned was superb. His secondary on the pass the Brustewicz was a simple play, executed perfectly.
The rush up the ice for go ahead goal in the earlier game was amazing and the feed was also superb. Alas, the rest of his shift before that great play was hot garbage, giving up back-to-back net front chances. One when he was pyloned by Desnoyers and the other where he just made a bad decision and Desnoyers got behind him for a breakaway. But when he was where you'd expect to find the RW in the d-zone, he got the puck and changed the game. He reminds me of Brent Burns.
The more I hear/read about Misa, the more excited I get. Can’t wait to see what he becomes for us
No way the Isles are trading the #1 pick for just a mid-level prospect. Speaking as an Isles fan, , their fan base will kill them. That's just wishful thinking by Sharks fan. They'll take Schaefer and that will be that.
The article from Dave Pagnotta where he mentions the Sharks and Mitch Marner only claims the Sharks, as well as some other teams, have the cap space to make a competitive offer. That’s all the article says.
If you’re going to call assists something as silly as “apples,”
then I insist you also call goals “gobble-gobbles” from now on 🏒🥅
If you could pick 1 player from each group of 2, which 2 player combo would you want the Sharks to draft the next 2 years?
1 out of: Schaefer / Misa
And 1 out of: McKenna / Verhoeff
I think maybe Schaefer/Verhoeff might be best… but you could go Misa/Verhoeff, or Schaefer/Mckenna… probably anything besides Misa/Mckenna, right?
But which combo would be the best for the Sharks?
No to moving up, no to signing Marner.
i think Schafer only edges out Misa because hes a Dman. both guys are #1 pick in my eyes.
Damn, I didn't realize Sam was playing that many minutes. He must have great conditioning. HOPE!
Dickinson is nhl ready, 100%, he’ll be there opening day. Will Smith started the year a little rough but ended up to be a top 5 rookie coming down the stretch.
If we don't end up with Schafer or Misa we messed up big time.
I've been content with the 90% fact Sj will be getting Misa.
That to me means Grier will even more-so likely be in business when it comes to a package around pick #30 and trading up to finding a top 20 pick D-man.
I think a Peterka availability is a must strike opportunity for Grier. If they don’t want draft capital, then get a 3rd team involved that will take the picks, make it happen. 1st line, NHL proven 23yr olds don’t become available. Don’t worry about penciling in prospects into specific roles years from now at the expense of adding young NHL talent now.
Trading down with Blackhawks incoming
Grier needs to talk to Chicago, the Sharks need defense,. the Hawks have a lot of very good young D men. Its what you call a hockey trade, both sides benefit.
Look at the Seth Jones to Florida trade, Chicago got a solid young goalie and a first round pick, Jones is playing great for Florida who look strong for another cup, Its a win win.
Just dont over pay…. pick misa and dont give the islanders an arm and a leg
You said it all perfectly JD.
GMMG should at least see what the Isles want for the number one pick, but I put it at a 1% chance he actually trades up. If it is cheap, jump. If it is expensive, nah.
GMMG would be silly not to listen to offers to trade the number 2 pick. Who knows what a team might offer?
As to Marner. It is a hard pass for me but not to listen to him and have a chance to run a pitch by him (even if it is just a practice run for the future) would be foolish.
It is a big thing that he has listed the Sharks as a team he might want to come to. A season ago that would never have happened. It shows the kind of progress the Sharks have made and the job GMMG, his staff and Warso have done that this kind of a free agent would consider the Sharks on his short list.
Dickinson is everything JD says he is. I also watched a bit of London Knights hockey during the season and in their post season run. Dickinson is a beast and is past the OHL. He needs to turn pro.
Of course GMMG and his staff will do their due diligence and if he is just not ready he will go regrettably back to the OHL. I put it at a 70% chance he is on the Sharks next season and on a defensive Will Smith plan.
Thanks for the episode JD, fun and informative as always!
JD what's your dream offseason for the Sharks??
I mean like listen as a die hard Islander fan, we’re in no position where we have to trade the pick, you guys are the ones calling us to move up to draft your potential franchise defenseman at your position of most need. The islanders have every right to demand a high price. San Jose are the ones calling them. It should hurt San Jose to move up to get the number one overall selection. Realistically it should be something like Musty + #2 overall + EDM 2026 1st. And to be honest, that’s just to get Darche to pick up the phone. Again this is because it’s your position of most need by a pretty large margin, show me how bad you want him. And it may only be to move up 1 spot like you said, but you guys have tons and tons of young talented forwards and forward prospects, in fact, an excess of them, so moving up at one spot to draft a guy like Schaefer is franchise altering.
If the NYI demand more than 2nd OA 30th OA and 53rd OA I say pass! Schaefer is very talented but not a generational
Talent, and the drop from Him to Misa is very slim. I’m perfectly OK with Dickinson Mukhamadullin Cagnoni on the LD side.
Anything more than the Dallas pick to move to 1 is a no for me dawg.
It's not rocket science. You just stick with the number two pick. You take Misa at number two. Unless for some reason The Islanders have already taken Misa. If they do take Misa instead of Schaefer you take Schaefer at number two. It's very clear it's very simple.
I disagree in regards to marner. I don't believe there sharks need more talented hockey players right now. Theyre in a rebuild, and their core building blocks are still very young. They aren't getting out of the rebuild in the next two years, maybe they start making a splash and showing signs of their ability to compete, but they still need a ton of development and defensive pieces. Adding an extremely expensive and long contract for an offensive player when we dont know what the team will need when it starts competing in a few years is foolish, let alone knowing what the contracts will look like.
Let's say they give marner a huge contract, and it seems like the contract is just a little rich for his play, hes literally in his prime now so maybe he starts declining in 3 or 4 years when they need to clear cap space for their younger stars. Now they have to give up assets to get him off the books. All for what, so they can be a little better during the years where they weren't really ready to compete anyways?
Seems foolish to me. And this sentiment is true for any A or S tier player that will command a large contract. Its not necessary yet, at least for guys that are already in their prime.
San Jose should offer sheet Bouchard
The more I think about it, the more Porter Martone intrigues me
Why do you keep saying 'did the thing' instead of saying what the thing is. Nobody knows what you're talking about, unless they're dialed in on what the London Knights are doing. I know it's mostly Sharks fans and diehards watching, but still. Good job, otherwise.
I wouldn't mind us picking up Alex Huang as Dman this year!
No need to galaxy brain the 2nd overall pick, draft the best player available either Misa or Schaefer.
Sharks in on Marner is an attempt to raise his price against their competitors. It’s going to be expensive for Dallas, Vegas or LA.
Let the big swinging Dickinson play.
Take Anderson and two first rounders from Calgary for number two overall
My honest opinion of the draft pick: I dont think the sharks will end up trading up, but they would be stupid to not at least see what NY's asking price is. If you can get it for the 2nd overall, Cagnoni (Because with Dickenson, Scheafer, and Muka it would be tough for him to make the roster), the 1st rounder from Edmonton, and maybe a second from this year then I think that would be a decent deal. But I think NY will likely want more than that and you dont want to trade everything to move up 1 spot. I think it is very likely the Sharks look to trade down instead and get a current, close to top pair level D man in the deal (like Byrum) and then use the later pick to take either Mrtka or Eklund. I just have a feeling the Sharks won't end up with Misa. Yeah a player like him will always be valuable to any team, but he's more valuable to basically every other team than the sharks. And if you're willing to trade down, then YOU have all the leverage and can take the best deal.
do this for Mckenna not Misa/Schaefer
Watching the conference finals, it is clear, the Sharks need help in the grit department. These teams playing now have guys the play a 200 ft game with tenacity. The kids the Sharks have now are talented for sure! The grit and physical play is lacking greatly. Marner does nothing to address that. My opinion of course
