The 49ers Just Got The Report We Needed To Hear | San Francisco 49ers
i had to take this break from yard work to tell you that the 49ers just got one of those reports that we just needed to hear in this video we’re going to talk about what that is plus we’re going to address two hot takes that tell you everything you need to know about what people are getting wrong about the 49ers heading into the 2025 NFL season hit subscribe if you’re looking for daily 49ers content but I got a question for you guys the question is this with 49ers with Debo Samuel excuse me with Debo Samuel gone cbs Sports says he’s the 49ers biggest offseason loss do you agree with CBS Sports that this guy not this guy on the screen but the guy in the post Debo Samuel is the biggest loss for the 49ers now if this were 2021 into the off seasonason I mean I think everybody would agree with you it would be the biggest loss of the off seasonason to lose Debo Samuel in 2021 after what he did there even after 2023 there could be an argument that it would have been a massive loss to lose Debo Samuel after 2023 but after 2024 I’d have to say Trey Greenlaw is for sure the biggest loss for the San Francisco 49ers uh 49ers Jack getting this right in my opinion saying it was green law and with this offseason injury we even dodged a bullet by letting him go debo was Debo for two seasons and the last two seasons he was only the idea of Debo i’m going to mostly agree with 2024 i’m going to like partially disagree with 2023 cuz there were some key moments in 2023 where we saw that Debo that Yak threat uh being able to produce massively for the 49ers but I get where you’re coming from 49ers Jack and I agree with you on the Green Law take i’m not so sure if we dodged a bullet on this offseason injury that’s to be determined massively because the initial reports were really bad about Green Law’s injury for the Denver Broncos uh but it’s looking better now than it was then we’ll have to wait and see of course but I like the the position i’m curious though what you guys think let me know in the comments if you agree or disagree with this one i don’t think Debo Samuel was the biggest loss for the 49ers for me the only person that the 49ers lost that I was absolutely distraught about was of course Dre Green Law that was the hardest one to take don’t get me wrong if we could have kept Huanga around I like Hufanga uh there are aspects of his game that we felt when he came back from injury that that uh actually not the first time the second time he came back from injury last season but even when I say that multiple injuries not a great sign of course uh but you know that’s the one that I really felt there were some other let’s see who was the other one oh Traverus Ward this was one that was so obvious because he said it himself basically that he was not going to be coming back that he couldn’t even see himself coming back to California and playing in California that was how big of an impact that personal uh tragedy was for him and for his family and you understand that I I mean I can’t imagine I can’t imagine we can’t we don’t understand that like most of you don’t understand that we I can’t imagine how that must have felt for him to lose Ammani but all of that being said like I think he was a player in 2023 that felt like a player that was absolutely on the an incredible ascent you know I go back to um it was the it was I think it was the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving that redemption game that the 49ers played two years ago that was the game that I feel like Travarius Ward said “This isn’t just a fluke this is real throw at me bro come at me.” Like I’m good uh that that one was definitely Trevor Ward is one to lose but a hard one to lose however what we got from him last season the amount of time he was out because of injury and personal tragedy and stuff like that I think it made it a little bit more palatable but Dre Greenlaw this is a guy that if he’s healthy this upcoming season for the Denver Broncos the 49ers are going to feel like they missed out and you know what John Lynch went after him he tried to keep him he he offered more than the Denver Broncos to keep him so um you know he didn’t want to be here that’s not going to happen so it wasn’t it wasn’t written in the stars for the 49ers now let’s talk about this report that we needed to hear uh for me anytime I hear mainstream media really getting behind and getting traction around a player that I feel like most people seem to be sleeping on I get kind of excited and this is another one of those reports where Ricky Pearl was recently picked as a top 10 year 2 breakout player here so looking at all of last year’s rookies who are who are the guys who are most likely to absolutely break out and explode this upcoming season ricky Pierall has this opportunity on a silver platter of course Brennan Iayuk’s going to take a while to come back even when he does come back he’s not going to be 100% fit and ready to go right out the shoot so Ricky Pearaw has that opportunity then you have Demarcus Robinson who might get that threeame ban you know so there are opportunities here for Ricky Pieraw just in that regard but as a general thought like he’s a firstround draft pick that the 49ers believe in and want to get going he he does run absolutely elite routes and I would like to see him um in a in a weird way kind of reminds me of of like Jerry Judy but with the right attitude and so I do believe he can be a really valuable player for the 49ers this upcoming season the opportunities there david Banilla covered this in a recent article for 49ers web zone uh here’s what he said pro Football Focus contributor Ryan Smith recently named 10 second 10 secondyear players poised to bigger roles in 2025 in San Francisco’s 49ers wide receiver Ricky Piol was among them given Piersaw’s late season surge and the 49ers offseason moves his inclusion shouldn’t come as a surprise and it’s not one of the biggest reasons for optimism is how Persaw closed out the season over the final two games racking up 14 catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns including a breakout performance in week 17 where when he recorded 141 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions and nobody mentions by the way that was during a 4-ame losing streak that was not exactly a time of year where everything was on the line and we were trying to make the playoffs like it was done and dusted and Ricky Pierce all went out there and put on a heck of a performance the 49ers traded wide receiver Debo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in March creating a path for Pierall to step into a bigger role in 2025 says Smith samuel graded out no lower or Samuel Debo Samuel graded out no lower than 70.9 in his six years with the with the team so San Francisco will be counting on Persaw to produce in a big way moving forward granted they’re two different players and they’re not going to be used I don’t think in the same way i don’t see the 49ers using Ricky Pieraw in all of the same types of ways they used uh Debo Samuel uh but I do hope because I don’t think Ricky Pieraw is going to be that Yak threat i think Ricky Pierall’s slick route’s going to get him into some great opportunities you know his first ever touchdown against the uh Tampa Bay Buccaneers if I remember correctly uh was a perfect example of how great route running and great sche offensive scheming can create opportunities where Ricky Pierol has great yards after the catch but he doesn’t have to do the types of things Debo Samuel had to do often to get those uh to get those yards so anyway I I digress a little bit here uh additionally the 49ers are expected to be without star wide out Brennon Iayuk already talked about that that leaves Pearaw Jawan Jennings as the likely starting receivers for week one giving the former first round pick an early chance to showcase his growth since his rookie campaign also kind of talked about that but let’s look at his worst stretch of football once he came back obviously after that injury um injury is a really light word for what happened to him that tragedy that happened to him in those in that four game stretch because this is the last eight games of the season this is the first four of the last eight games of the season okay um look at how many targets on the right side of the screen i’ll read it out for you those of you that are just listening here he has 212 he has five total targets in those four games for one reception i think it was like 10 yards or something like that okay so he had five receptions five targets for one reception and 10 yards in four games just not given a whole lot of opportunity then the next four games the final four games of the season look how many targets he gets there four targets four targets 10 targets eight targets and he’s converting on those into literally hundreds of yards um he’s averaging against the Lions he averaged 17.6 yards per pass i mean that or yards per catch that’s incredible got a couple touchdowns in those games as well to end out the season of course games that did not matter games that you were hoping you would get to and and you know in the beginning of the season based on uh all metrics everything you would imagine you would look at those last couple games and say if we can get to that Detroit game and that Detroit game doesn’t really matter if we lose it that would be great and then you can go against Arizona and you can clean up if if you know um getting that that uh home field advantage is still on the on the cards or not not determined for you yet but I would say this points to what happened when all of a sudden Ricky Pierall gets four targets and doesn’t really convert a whole lot gets four targets again converts on all four or receives all four of those and turns it into some meaningful yardage and then 10 targets and gets eight receptions for 1441 yards against the Lions i think that I would agree that this is pointing in the right direction and I love I’ll just reiterate I love when I see mainstream writers national media people seeing the stuff that I think I’m seeing but I know I’m looking through red and gold glasses so I’m hyped on that um this is the 49ers depth chart i’m not going to go into great detail i talked about it in yesterday’s video/podcast so you can go check that out of course but uh I have Brennan Iayuk then Jawan Jennings then Ricky Pierall in my mind is number three in the depth chart for wide receivers only got a total of 325 snaps in 2024 ricky Pieraw if he stays healthy that is a little bit of a question i’ll knock on wood for you guys out there but Ricky Pieraw if he stays healthy this year should be somewhere in the 600 receptions or 600 targets excuse me in my opinion like that somewhere in that range would be great anything above 500 would be awesome for him um and I see no reason why he couldn’t be in that 600 uh 600 snap range um and get a meaningful amount of targets i told you at the beginning of last season that I felt like if Ricky Pierce this is before the tragedy if Ricky Pierce could could come out with 50 targets that would be a good season for him looking at the Ronnie Bells of the world thinking this is a first round draft pick but he’s gonna have to earn it because this is Kyle Shanahan’s offense he doesn’t let wide receivers off easy now this upcoming season I’d like to see that number you know maybe 50% higher i’d like to see him closer to 75 uh targets that would be good for him if he could get 75 targets this season let’s see he could be more valuable than that depending on what happens with Brandon Iayuk depending on how things go with Demarcus Robinson uh depending on how things go with Jawan Jennings jawan Jennings is not a man beater and Ricky Pierall is that guy that might be able to be your man beater so all important players on this roster of course so I’m not trying to downplay other guys i still believe Jacob Cowing um is is primed is primed for a great season um so I’m hoping for that as well let’s talk about Brock Pury this is another hot take I wanted to get to before we close up shop today brock Party’s overunder for touchdown passes this season is set at 23.5 now before you freak out if that number scares you there’s a reason that number is where it is it’s actually a very good reason why it’s there uh but I agree with co with coach Yak saying I can see him throwing around 30 if he stays healthy i’m not sure that’s as big of an asterisk as it is for some people the if it stays health if he stays healthy situation but he set at 23 and a half touchdowns if you look over his last two full seasons because he didn’t have a full season obviously uh when he joined the league in 2022 or when he first got his opportunity in 2022 mid-season Brock Pury in 2023 threw for 4,280 yards for 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions great season from Brock Perie uh an elite offense uh that the 49ers put together there with Brock Pury uh at the helm brock Pury in 2024 3,864 yards 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions not as great of a year for the young man understandable considering the situ situations two factors for you to think about as you’re considering this and I’m not telling you to go gamble or anything like that i’m just as you’re considering whether or not you think 23 and a half is a right is the right line for Brock Pury that line is set you know in short like simply simply it’s set because you look at the stats he had one year where he had 31 touchdowns one year we had 20 and you have to wonder he lost some of his targets like Debo in in in training camp at least Debo was a a favorite target of Brock Pury but in 2023 you know Brennan Iayuk was the man of course now all of that being said and you have of course running game to consider as well Christian McAffrey getting a lot of touches this season we’re hoping anyway um but I think the big factors that you need to remember is 2023 we learned later that the first half of that season he was still dealing with that injury he was still recovering from that injury in Philadelphia the prior the prior season in the NFC Championship game so if you can get a Brock Purie who’s not dealing with injury okay then we talk about 2024 the first time he actually had a full off season okay and now we know the first time this season offseason is going to be the first time he’s had a full off seasonason uh with all of ideally knock on wood all of his targets available so we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out all right like he’s not going to get to practice with uh with Brennan Iayuk I suppose so maybe I should take back what I just said there but I like Brock Pertie’s chances and being able to improve this upcoming season i believe there’s still plenty of room for him everybody agrees that his ceiling is still higher i mean everybody like all of the the the greatest film watchers out there who who go on radio programs and go on national media and talk about Brock Pury all say he still has a higher ceiling even Chris Sims Chris Sims we talked about it a couple days ago even he believes that Brock Pretty has a higher ceiling so if if if everybody believes he has a higher ceiling and he can learn from some of the things that he did wrong last season and learn from some of those mistakes when he was chasing games at a business end of the season when he shouldn’t have been chasing uh trying to force the ball down the field um when there were available checkdowns and there was still time on the clock you know in some of those situations Brock Py will learn from those situations can improve in my opinion and we’re going to see a benefit of course that if the run game with two tight end sets can be more effective and less predictable that was the issue with 2024 i felt like a lot of times Debo got the ball it was just obvious everybody knew what was happening and that’s a problem we cannot be that predictable so if we can go back to being a little bit less predictable then having guys like Christian McCaffrey hopefully a better version of Isaac Garendo as he continues to grow from his rookie season then we have guys who are are providing the 49ers with better checkdown options we know Brock Pury was way at the bottom when it came to checkdown uh percentages last season that’s not an ideal stat for me um I mean it definitely is one of those stats that makes you feel good when people call him the checkdown king and you’re like “Dude he was second worst in the NFL and in percentage of checkdowns or second lowest I should say.” Um in my opinion that’s bad i would like to see him closer to the middle there um not always going to the checkown but taking advantage of opportunities for guys like Christian McCaffrey guys like Isaac Garreno for those checkown opportunities of course your slot receiver sometimes can be one of those guys as well so there are so many options and so much opportunity and a full full full off seasonason without the 49ers going deep into the playoffs where now this is going to be the longest offseason Brock Pur has ever had longest offseason um these rookies have had of course um I just dude everywhere I look every way I look at it I know I’m looking through red and gold glasses but I see opportunity here i think 23 and a half is a very modest line um and again I’m not telling I’m not I’m not telling you to go sports gamble or anything like that i’m just saying I think that that line set for Brock Pury that expectation out of Vegas for Brock Pury is set understandably based on some some certain metrics but wrong i think it’s wrong and I’m really looking forward to Brock Pury uh on this big contract proving everybody wrong let me know in the comments what you think about that too of course we’re three days away from mandatory mini camp which I’m hyped about can’t wait to see uh just we need we need two more days of of highlights and footage and uh interviews that we can then mle over as uh as we get into the deep aspects of this off season in late June and into July ahead of a very very interesting very interesting training camp we have a lot of position groups that are are very much have spots up for grabs so it’s going to be uh I think the last time I did the numbers I think there are like 10 10 positions that are not locked down yet for the 49ers in my opinion so that’s a lot of movement that could still take place of course Jake Moody is another one of those guys we’ve been talking about wide receivers and so there’s obviously you know we looked at that depth chart and things like that but I there’s a lot of guys that that a lot of positions the 49ers are going to be figuring out in training camp it’s going to be an electric training camp the vibes are already high have been high you’ve got guys like Trent Williams showing up to OTAAS this is the kind of stuff that I want to be hearing about want to be talking about want to be seeing so let me know in the comments as always appreciate you guys and hope you guys are having a fantastic weekend

Deebo is no longer the threat he was.
He’s a bit slower. More injury prone. And a much bigger diva than he was in past. I think the Niners dodged a bullet getting rid of it. Good luck for the Redskins.
Nah i don't agree, i luv Deebo,,he's one of my favorite 9ers of all time, but it was by far Greenlaw, then Huf, and Ward was hard but i knew he was gone after he lost his daughter, that's jus to much
No Deebo
Hell no
Impossible to replace Dre but he may never be the same after his hammy injury.
Dre Greenlaw biggest offseason loss.
Aloha from O’ahu Hawai’i can you tell me when they gonna have that throwback 49er jerseys??? like show on YouTube. Keep up the good work keep up the good news all right bro talk to you later. Aloha Mahalo.
I wouldn’t be too relaxed on green law was out Glenner.
Deebo has had 1 great season; he averaged about 650 yds/yr, and that wideback role was limited. I actually have no problem with letting any player go that doesn't want to be here. I wish him the best, but it allowed us to focus on our defense, and I am way more excited about our draft picks.
No Ward Hufanga and Greenlaw were the biggest losses by far .
Nop. It’s going to be Jordan mason!
Deebo will have that one play that can go for 60 yards 9ers don’t have a player like that
Nah, Greenlaw was bigger loss. Deebo hasn't played up to par in last 2 seasons
As much as I love Debo, I’m gonna have to disappear within Zaira brother kept Greenlaw nine out of a
Dre was the biggest loss. We lost Deebo when he switched to #1. I truly miss #19. Charvarius ward was good. Huf will always be great. Ricky will be the league’s nominee for injury.
Dre was the biggest loss for sure. Nick Martin just might be the answer though.
Deebo didn’t block, ever. The year we got three quarterbacks injured we because deebo didn’t block the blitzer. You can’t let defense run full speed at your quarterback.
In a way they are right. Deebo played more games than Huf or Dre last year. But the guy who theyd have benefited from being able to keep the most would have been Greenlaw
Football is a team sport. Every team is different, every season will have surprises. If on opening day 2022, I told you Trey and Jimmy would be lost. You would have thought that would be devastating loss. Yet, that created the opportunity for one Brock Purdy. Root for the team, support your favorite players and don’t listen to Grant Cohn.
Deebo was a good player but the distractions killed his positives as it has for BA. Greenlaw was a tough loss. In the history D Buckner and Armstead was tough too
Dre Greenlaw, is the biggest loss. Bowman coming back from knee then achilles injuries he was done. He could not push off with the repaired achilles injury.
I love Dre and the energy that he brought to the defense and the stadium. His pick in the Green Bay playoff game, the stadium erupted to an all-time high.
I wish him well and I will follow his career, but we don’t know if he’ll be Dre again.
As far as breakout second year players Cowings Guerendo (if healthy) and of Puni will show out. I do hope to see Neyor because the physicality and potential would be insane. I’m hoping they’re saying and seeing traces of Randy Moss/ Owens numbers and reliable targets for Purdy.
The addition of CMC neutralized the need for Deebo, he was left without a role and forced to be more of a true wide receiver, which he is not.
Samuel couldn't get separation in man coverage. One of the main reason he was let go. Kyle's 25 season offense scheme does not include Samuel. Because prudy is going downfield more and more so is the offense. This is prudy's 4th season. He knows this offense.
Nope Deboo leaving was a blessing! Deboo can take Aiyuk with him! 👋👋👋
The report about Lynch offering more than Denver is TECHNICALLY accurate… After Lynch and the 49ers screwed around by not making a serious offer and not being willing to put him as a team front-man and always promoting Warner exclusively as the defense's front-man until after it was announced that Greenlaw was going to Denver and what the terms were. This was not only the biggest loss of the offseason, the reporting I saw indicates that it was a preventable loss.
Mooney? I don't say he is the biggest loss – because he was never going to return after the tragedy – and everyone knew it. And the 49ers had already told Mooney that they didn't see him fitting in their salary cap even before that. So it doesn't feel like a loss for THIS "off-season". It feels like a last-off-season-we-already-knew-and-then-tragedy-so-yeah-he's-gone kind of thing.
Huff? 2 injuries in one season? And he took some bad angles later when he came back because mentally he hadn't lost a step – just physically. And those angles would have been the right ones to take if he had actually been able to fully recover. Injuries can leave a pro a permanent step slower – and for Huff it looks like it did. And then he had another one. So it was time to look for a replacement anyways. Good luck to Huff. No hard feelings. Great to have had him when he WAS in his prime.
Deebo? Mr. Gimme-the-ball and then drops the key pass with the season on the line? The one who this past season couldn't take a sweep and barrel through 3 tackles anymore? That Deebo? IDK – maybe it was the craptastic OL not getting good blocks in. Maybe it isn't fair to focus on one huge dropped pass. But it felt like it was over for him fitting in to Kyle's scheme. Love ya, Deebo. Will always remember the Deebo from his prime. Wish we could have won a SB with him. And as a not-so-side-note to finish commenting on Deebo. He's shown total class with his social media posts since signing elsewhere. I wish him luck.
