Former Dallas Mavericks head coach Don Nelson makes a point that he’s wearing Luka 4s in protest of the team’s decision to trade Doncic: “I think it was a tremendous mistake for the Dallas franchise to trade him — and I want everybody to know that.”

Speaking all of our minds
Well god damn man.
I’m drinking a beer in protest!
YES UNC, SPEAK YO MIND!
Luka trade was the NBAs Thanos snap, they got the side characters in unrelated story arcs discussing where they were when it happened
Weird how everybody knows it was a mistake except for one person
I can’t believe Nico got saved so quickly
I also want everybody to know it is rigged and unfair to all other NBA franchises that the Mavs rewarded with #1 pick.
King
Nelson was a hell of a coach
Boggles me why the league was ever trying to protect Nico
Giving an old man a microphone is basically a cheat code to getting your honest thoughts out without having to say them yourself.
85, First time he has left Maui in seven years.
It just won’t die, huh nico?
Why did he retire from coaching? Seems like he retired years ago and still look like he could coach rn
Mark Cuban saw how Nico fumbled Steph Curry at Nike and said “Let’s make THIS guy our gm”
It was move made by nba in exchange for nr 1 pick and probably more things we aren’t aware of it yet.
Goat
It’s kinda insane to me how the Mavs get to directly transition from drafting Dirk Nowitzki to Luka Doncic to Cooper Flagg with the biggest gap being 2 months while a lot of franchises in the league haven’t had a single player that talented even ever wear their jersey in entire decades of their existence.
AI Jason Kidd agrees and so do non-generated Dirk
Probably Dale Ellis too if anyone cares to ask him what he thinks
Damn, wasn’t aware Don had lost so much weight. He looks great, bit gangsta.
The fact that Nico still hasn’t been fired yet and probably won’t be this offseason makes it impossible for me to have any real hope for this franchise even with Flagg coming in. Just a generational level of stupidity in that front office.
Donny is my GOAT
This is the same guy who left Dallas pretty much because Mark Cuban didn’t match Steve Nash’s offer (he left the following year, but he’s said that’s why). Must be frustrating for him to see history repeating itself.
Also, I’m now realizing that he hasn’t been in the league in 15 years, and there’s probably a decent chunk of people on here who don’t realize how awesome and ahead of his time Nellie was. He turned around Milwaukee after Kareem left. He was at the helm of the Run-TMC Warriors. He traded for Dirk and Nash and built the offense around them. He coached the We Believe 8-seed Warriors who upset the #1 seed Mavericks. Absolute legend.

Says the guy who traded away Mitch Richmond for Billy Owens….
Luka perfectly fit into the Nelson legacy of getting and developing European superstars that would identify with the local city. It’s still so ridiculous. Luka fell into their lap, they achieved perfect continuity in branding and marketing.
The shoe salesman just threw all of that away to chase AAU kids.
Everyone knows it Donnie, ty for say it out loud.
Don Nelson is the biggest reason I’m a Warriors fan. His basketball philosophy lines up with the far I’ve watched all my life. Offense matters more than defense. Defense is making your opponent take shots with their worst shooters. Defense is allowing a bad shooter to keep shooting even if he makes his first couple. Fast breaks at any opportunity.
It’s kind of insane that it all worked out for Dallas too. Got AD and a possible generational talent for Luka essentially.
Fuck yeah Donny
Nellie is so lovable
He ain’t the only one
Bro deadass came out of the retirement home just to tell the whole world how bad the trade was and support Luka lmao.
Don Nelson is an absolute G.
Trade so bad a Hall of fame coach is protesting it at the finals. Even funnier that Luka’s former coach happens to be there too lmao
Don doesn’t look like a hippie anymore? Shame.
Get over it
Love Don Nelson, but all he’s doing these days is smoking weed with Willie Nelson. Not sure that’s the guy I want on my side of the argument. And didn’t Rick Carlisle walk away from the Mavs with Luka in his prime? Why did he do that? Funny how the people who know Luka best don’t want anything to do with him.
Yes but it wasn’t a mistake for Adam Silver. He needed the Lakers to have Luka and so that is where he was going to go.
And so, it was just luck that Dallas got Cooper Flagg?
Ha!
Not saying it doesn’t make sense, but wtf is it gonna do? It already happened, the NBA’s not gonna veto it at this point. The Mavs still have a good roster and the #1 pick (Cooper Flagg). I feel like you just gotta focus on the new era at this point.
Then they got the #1 pick lol
Rick was like yeah, you never had to coach em tho lol
The nba is not a competitiv sports league, it’s a theater show meant to make money.
Um sir, this is the NBA Finals
…so i gave money to Jordan brand.
What a heroic stand!
Only Americans could be convinced that consumerism = protest
Maybe it wasn’t maybe it wasn’t.
Still got zingers at 85. Was always good with the media.
