Cubs vs. Nationals Game Highlights (6/4/25) | MLB Highlights

Nationals are honoring us Marine Corps members and veterans tonight for Branch Appreciation Day at the yard. This was just a few minutes ago. They had a sweet fly over here, just buzzed us here in the booth to Osprey Mackenzie Gore. 26 years of age Franny last time out at Seattle, a gem six scoreless with eight Ks and one walk ball. Two strikes to drive right field. It’s a leadoff single, a high drive left field and another single two and two on Kelly, he’ll line one in the center of base hit, advancing to third is half. He will hold there as the throw comes in from the center Hassell three straight singles setting the stage now for Pete Crow Armstrong, Shane Levens Burger says Crow Armstrong went too far and a strikeout for Mackenzie Gore and the 23 year old has some beef here with the home plate umpire pay off pitch here. I got him, went back to the curveball and got a swing and a miss from Swanson, a big momentum change right here if we can get out of this inning. So a little looping pop up foul off first low racing over side warning track reach, he makes the catch up against the side rail and Mackenzie Gore is able to finish the first inning, like he finished his outing in Seattle, stranding the bases loaded. What a job by Gore to post a zero. The veteran left hander Matthew Boyd on the mound for the Cubs tonight. And boy, he’s been awfully good. 11 starts a 3.08 a swing and a fly ball right field playable say Suzuki makes the catch here is a swing and a miss strike three good change of pace. Boy takes advantage of that with a good changeup, fading down and away chopper back to the mound fielded by Boyd throws to first and it’s out number three score that 11 to three major league baseball. Thomson strikeouts sixth in fielding independent pitching things that he can control. 2.65 incredibly good and a swing and a miss and go with his third strikeout and there’s two down in the third breaking ball swing and a miss struck him out for the second time. Got him with the slider. No score bottom of the third. Riley Adams leading off who is five for 37 for the year. So we get a Miss strike three looked like Adam was sitting on something soft there because he was really tardy on this fastball swing and a Miss strike three 123 innings from Matthew Boyd bunch of Marine Corps members here at the ballpark tonight waving their caps as we do every night here at Nationals Park, recognizing our military men and women as we go to the bottom of the fourth Matthew Boyd on the mound, Abrams waiting here’s the pitch swing and a miss strike. Three good curveball looked like he dropped down to about three quarter or even full side arm delivery that time and got a lot of movement on. Here’s the fly ball, shallow left playable for either Shaw or Swanson. It’s Dansby and shallow left right on the foul line. And that’s going to be out. Number two, the 31 pitch popped up into shallow center, fly ball to center. It’s caught by Armstrong, I believe it was. And that ends the inning one up , one down to the fifth. Ian Hs been on base twice single and a walk check swing on a ball of dirt. He went too far and half is rung up on the check, swing by shane Livensparger. He stares back at the umpire as Crow Armstrong did in the very first inning and two away here in the top of the fifth that will bring up Suzuki got in on his hands popped up to shallow right. Here comes alex Cole with the dive, picks it off the turf and helps Mackenzie go put up another 123 inning. Did he get it? The Cubs will indeed challenge. Take a look from our third base side camera that’s gonna be close. I mean, that left pinky, the only thing is it got caught a little bit. That’s the only thing they might see, but you know what they call , it’s a tough one called it out. I think they’re gonna, I think the call is gonna stand. Paul stands. Great play by alex called to say Suzuki. Here comes the third low for one with a ground out. the 0 to 2, a swing and a miss strike three. Most certainly does one away. Number five for who stood tall here tonight. Nationals have yet to get a hit in this ball game in the bottom of the fifth inning high fly ball deep left center field way back. Crow Armstrong makes it over the head catch slamming into the wall. What a play in left center field by Pete Crow Armstrong. He continues to amaze out there in center. Matthew Boyd pitching a perfect game. I say again, perfect game swing and a miss strike three, a fastball got him one of the better fastballs that Matthew Boyd has cut loose tonight. Top of the zone and it had some mustard on it right back to it and missed above the zone. First base runner tonight for the Washington Nationals. A one out walk here in the sixth. There’s a pick off throw to second. Got it. Yeah. When you got a lefty out there with a real good move, a tough guy to read is the base runner. Basically, you’re just gonna go , I’m just gonna go on first move. Hope for the best if he comes over, maybe I can outrun the, the throw from the first baseman and a swing and a line drive to right. That’s going to be a base hit for robert Asle the third. He threw him a Fliter and that one dropped in over the inner half, he didn’t have to chase that time. That one was in the wheelhouse and he lines a single to right. And so the perfect game and the no hitter both for Matt Boyd here in the bottom of the sixth inning and the 22 ground ball to second scooped up by Horner throws to first inning over. So the no hitter is lost but the shutout still very much intact. No score cubs and nationals as we go to the seventh inning, Mackenzie go back out there for the top of the seventh fastball hit of the year to deep right center has going back, slowing up has a play and makes the catch just before crossing out of the warning to retire the side. So Mackenzie Gore three straight scoreless innings. He retires 11 in a row and he retires 14 of the last 15 cubs. Can they get on the board here in the seventh and put their left hander in line for his third win of the season and his first win since April 19th, first pitch swung on into the air down the right field line to the corner. Long run. This may go man for Ahmed Rosario here in the bottom of the seventh inning. He’s in there to hit lefties and he now has hit in nine straight games. His third home run of the year RB I number 13, Ahmed Rosario delivers the first run of the game and the Nationals on the board. It’s Washington one Chicago nothing. See if Nunez maybe lays one down to try to get a hit. Third baseman Shaw moving in, gonna turn on one and pull it down. Paul a turn around. Second alex called to the plate and the NATS are on top two nothing. The Sea Nunez caps off a 10 pitch battle with an RB I double to double the nationals lead the same Nunez or a fire member. That’s right. Little change up up in the zone again, fouling off some really good pitches to get to the mistake. ####, ####, ####, ####, ####, ####. #### kyle Finnigan is in again there. It is 22nd game on the year for him for his 17th save and now the tying run is on base. We might see a pinch batter and I believe this is going to be kyle Tucker runner goes and there’s a ground ball to second Nunez will flip and this game is over the Nationals pick up their fifth shutout victory of the season. They shut out the Cubs just the third time this year that Chicago has been shut out.

  1. Wow, the Cubs blew it in the first inning. Bases loaded, nobody out, and they couldn't get a single run out of it? There's no excuse for that, man. Even the Nats, notorious for blowing bases loaded situations, will usually bring in at least one run via a sac fly or a throw to first.
