MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jun 10, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
welcome to St Louis and Bush Stadium home of the Cardinals since 2006 Inner League baseball on MLB The Show It’s the Toronto Blue Jays taking on the St Louis Cardinal First pitch coming your way next St Lewis Cardinals just about ready to go And on the hill today Eric Fetty and Singi It’s unique these days but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy Yeah Boogie He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out He knows he needs to miss barrels get some soft contact let the defense do work behind him And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo don’t give hitters time to adjust or think they can move through a ball game and you look off they’re in line for a quality start We’ll see what he’s gotten in this one Hit in the air right field Burlson puts it away and there’s one away Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Tyler Heinman Tops on the team in batting average Boo a guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate You know that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going get a leadoff man on but it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you’ve got guys on base already So he’s a huge piece in this lineup Vladimir Guerrero Jr the next to hit takes ball one Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock So they get a man aboard with a one out single And now for the Jays Addison Barger Good power not great in the OBP department in the first pitch misses for ball one Barer patrolling center field hitting third in the lineup and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2018 Guerrero over at first with one away There’s a 1-1 and that’s in the dirt Well with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt A good secondary lead Doesn’t have runner on the go Line drive makes the grab for the second half Throw behind the runner They got him doubled off One hit in the inning but no one left Now the Cardinals will see what they can do There’s no [Applause] score back here in St Louis And our pitcher in this game Kevin Gossman What do you got on him Chris And a guy like this is going to keep you in the ball game He’s going to go out there compete Not going to see a whole lot of flare and flash but he’s going to hand it over to the bullpen at some point And if you’ve been able to score a few runs you’ll be in it late So we’ll see if he’s able to do that for his club in this one Lars Newbar the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one Swinging a miss And now it’s even one and one [Music] Fought off foul and a pitch Struck him out without a swing Went back to the splitter and it was effective And up next for St Lewis Mason win the other way and there’s a hit So a man aboard now with one away Batting third second base Brendan Donovan Next up for the Cardinals Ball one no strikes Pitchers always face a dilemma trying to figure out how to attack this guy He went with the breaking ball right there but it feels like that approach might be playing with fire He loves to go after pitches with a wrinkle in it And there’s a ball Chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first He’s in a favorable hitter count Well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in Three ball No strike [Music] rolled to short Possible two ball over to second for one Relay to Guerrero in time Inning ending double play End of one and we’re still scoreless Back here at Bush Stadium Second inning set to go Here’s George Springer to start it off Fetty back to work And a strike in there And that misses And that is ball one James Kingsley our played umpire consistent as you mentioned and maybe a little generous on the edges in for a strike One and two See if you can go upstairs a little bit Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt Win under it Makes the catch for the That’s a tough play for the infielder ranging back into the outfield There’s part of him that’s saying “Hey where you at outfielder Call me off.” But he stayed focused and made a nice catch right there And now here is Nathan Lucas That one pushed to the left and fouled [Music] Lifted in the air right field Burlson Let’s go Two away Batting six Third baseman Ernie Clement And now it’s going to be Ernie Clement It’s interesting He plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well So when you’re looking at that position you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed but he does And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed it makes the whole team that much better Pitch misses there and the count is one and one What about him playing another position on defense one that would require a little more range Absolutely And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game it’d surprise a lot of people You might even be able to put them in center field Two balls two strikes to count with two outs Two count The count’s full keeps the atbat going with a foul ball Two down to that’s a walk Went with the cutter again but couldn’t find his own Oh looking for a swing and miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch but neither happened Close pitch but a good take to earn that walk Here’s Andre Simenez There goes the runner And that’s a stolen base Not even close You know what I like the aggressiveness right there It looks like it’s going to be tough to score in this one Really good pitching so far So why not try to put some pressure on them and see if you can steal the bag get in the scoring position Clement at second with two down That one in there across the letters And a bat like this is almost over as it begins In this situation you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be You just got to hope that you can make contact And that one lifted in the air center field Scott on the move He’s got it And that is that Blue Jays held in check We’ll go to the bottom of the second No score Bottom of the second Here’s the veteran first base Wilson Contrus Wilson [Applause] Contrus St Louis High in the air out to right pulls it down and he makes the catch And there’s one away He was all over that first pitch fast Just barely missed it Man this guy was ready to hit So digging in Alec Burlson He’s someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching The lefties however give him a little bit more trouble Go Alec Swinging it a ground ball and foul ball That’s down and in He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit Mission accomplished No score here in the second right side out number two Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit Couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it And now it’s Ivon Herrera [Music] Herrera He swings and fouls one off Two out Base is empty That one the other way He’s got it And that is out number three Nothing doing there for St Louis We’ll move to the third with no score And welcome back to the ballpark Top half of the third inning And now for the Jays Jonathan Class First pitch misses And another ball And it skips in the dirt It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run Definitely lost the handle during that sequence Four pitches for the walk and that last one didn’t even threaten the zone Catcher might want to go talk to him So up next Tyler Heinman That one fouled off Ruer at first with no outs here Pulls that one foul [Music] Breaking ball misses down and away Recognized that change up right out of the hand Just spit on it Fights that one away Still one and two Nobody out Runner at first Fouls it off Still one and two fouled off and they’ll do it again He hasn’t gotten the result yet but he’s got to feel pretty confident Three foul balls in a row He’s right on this pitcher Next offering misses down and away Swing and a miss Struck him out Get him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one [Applause] So the lineup flips over Here’s the shortstop at the plate Bobette first off and it just misses [Music] That one hit to right Burlson He makes the grab That’s out number two Now batting first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr Vladimir Guerrero Jr now one for one with a single so far St Louis first pitch doesn’t find the zone Now if he’s going to steal second you want him to go early in the count That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch Off the mark there and a count Two and one Two And there’s the strike Class off of first with two away Soft contact in the air Brings it in for the third out One left for Toronto and we are still scoreless Set for the bottom of the third And stepping in for the Cardinals Nolan Gorman Nolan Gordon That one missed [Applause] in the air Left field down the line Hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double The automatic double kind of feels like enjoying cruise control in your car boo You don’t need to keep the pedal down as you cruise into second base Just no worries in the world You know what He put a really good swing on that one And now the Cardinals catcher Pedro Pah swinging a foul out of play [Music] Pop dump Jimenez settles underneath it and he makes the catch and there’s one down Bill that was a pitch you got to crush Unbelievable that he missed it right there And I’m telling you he is going to be frustrating with himself until his next at bat Victor Scott Next up for the Cardinals We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it But pushing the offensive side for just a second Chris It’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most Well he gets to balls that get by most people at that position Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away Barger settles under it and makes the catch and there’s two away Now batting left fielder Lars Nbar Lars Nbar next up for the Cardinals Let off the game with a strike out And what makes him even quicker is the fact that he’s so dialed in on the pitch as it’s moving through the hitting zone He can see how that hitter’s lined up what he’s trying to do and where that pitch is going to end up which gives him that really quick first step And that’s why he makes so many great plays That just misses One and one [Music] The 1-1 is fouled off [Music] Battling here as he fouls it away [Applause] and a swing and a miss and the inning is over Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results And right there thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam Back here in St Louis John Shami with Chris Singleton And set to lead off the fourth Addison Barger Let’s go St Louis Come on St Louis Late swing fouled to the left The 01 pounding ball here Rolls [Applause] foul and there’s a base hit to left and they have their first hit since the first inning Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point Pretty impressive for an 02 count Go ahead run on base and the batter is George Springer [Applause] And that one upstairs Ball one Next offering is in for a strike Generally second third time through the lineup you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it And that one fouled off with two strikes May see some movement over there at first base Trying to stay out of the double play right here Foul ball Still a one and two count This one popped up Foul ground first base side and that’s a foul ball Fourth inning underway No score The next offering misses Two balls two strikes Man oh man I don’t know how you take that pitch That’s as close as it gets Still two and two after the foul ball [Applause] got him looking He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound but they still get the strike out Absolutely dotted the edge of the zone right there That was a tough battle man So to make a really quality pitch and just catch him looking like that it’s got to feel good out there on the mound That was a fun at bat to watch [Applause] And now the right fielder Nathan Lucas He’s 0 for one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter He’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes Usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball That catches the corner Oh one to third Gorman off balance feed There’s one to first Not in time Great effort there Third Ernie Clement Ernie Clement will hit next Work to walk at his first trip to the plate [Applause] Right through there for a strike Two gone but the go-ahead run is at first Top half of inning number four Go That one finds the zone and that’s strike two Well he didn’t like those first two pitches Now in an 02 hole He’s going to have to battle Hope he gets a mistake Two outs and a foul ball He stays alive Squirts away a little bit and he grounds one to the right side Donovan over to first and he has thrown four shut out innings onto the bottom of the fourth now Still with no score And we’re back Ready to go Bottom four Now it’s the shortstop Mason Win Win goes 5′ 11 in 22 years old and he was a second round pick in 2020 Foul ball there [Music] and that just misses Really good take especially with two strikes right through there Got him That K is his third of the game frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter And I’m sure that’s gonna sit on him for a little while You want to be ready to hit the fast ball Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there Donovan now in the box comes up empty with a swing there [Applause] One out Base is empty [Music] Bands another And that’s three straight strikeouts Well he went up there trying to be aggressive that’s for sure Hacking at those first two pitches but clearly that last one fooled him He could have been sitting on something else entirely But you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone Maybe choke up maybe spread out your stance a little bit You got to give the guy credit on the mound though He went right after it And up to hit is Wilson Contrarus And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike Two down nobody on We’re here in the bottom of the fourth Follow one Close but called a ball and a count Two on one now to short Bette whips it across and Contrarus is retired St Louis goes down in order Redbirds down quietly and we’re still knotted at zero Back here in St Louis we go to the top of the fifth And now for the Jays Andres Jimenez Fetty back to work in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone Well these Blue Jays simply put are producing a lot of quality swings They’ve hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact That’s almost always going to lead to positive results And now the count one and two after the swing and the miss That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes but that’s not what that pitch was gets a piece and stays alive Ground ball right side It squirts through So a man on base to start the inning Back against the wall with two strikes but found a way He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock And you’ll take that anytime you can get them to find a hole And now they’ve got some speed on first So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion Go ahead run on base Digging in It’s the speedy outfielder Jonathan Class Just missed [Applause] That’s the third Good feed That’s one A sensational double play They made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine That’s the one thing about big leaguers They make tough plays look simple And next for Toronto Tyler Heinman struck out swinging his first time Outside low ball one All tied up and we’re in the top of the fifth One and one So a foul ball makes it one and two hacks and misses It’s a strike out Nothing do it for the Blue Jays Still no score Back here at Bush Stadium Now it’s the right fielder Alec Burlson Ale Burles Come on wake up In there at the knees for a strike You know these cards as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story We’ve seen it quite a bit today It’s been tough for them to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group gets a piece and it stays 0 and two And on the mound you know confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses He’s had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game That’s off the mark and the count is one and two Hammered and now maybe extra bases Now he turns and heads for second The relay throw not in time That’s a leadoff double Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that Turned on that inside pitch nicely and ripped it down the line to pick up two bases That can be a tough pitch to keep fair but his timing was great Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game So the go-ahehead run in scoring position Here digs in now 0 for one so far just missed [Applause] Runner in scoring position Nobody out Last half of inning number [Applause] five Next offering misses Two and0 Appears they’re working around him with the base open Singy Well you know these two counts Boo they’re just not what they used to be And we sound like old guys when I say that but ultimately this is a strategic game and you expect to see this type of approach by the pitcher in this situation Batting third base Nolan Gorman Here’s Nolan Gorman Doubled his first time on the corner for a strike [Applause] And takes low for ball one [Applause] a little out front there as he swings through it This guy’s got such a good sinker As a hitter you’ve got to look up in the zone If you look down you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt Next offering is down low and it’s two and two That’s a really good take That one 95 to finish him off Now that two down now and here is Pedro Pah [Applause] First pitch just misses [Music] [Applause] And another ball You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in And he spits on that one Liner And this could be trouble Burlson grounds third headed for the plate He scores and they have the lead Fires the second too late and he’s got a double Well that’s a big swing of the bat Driving in the run with the two batter Show the willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way Didn’t get jumpy Didn’t try to pull the ball He let it get deep Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit [Applause] Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals 0 for one with a fly out to center and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed [Applause] hitter Pah stands at second with two gone way out front for strike two Another 02 count right here Pitcher just in the driver’s seat He can go anywhere he wants to go right here Just off the outside corner and a count one and [Applause] two on the ground right side Jimenez gets it to first That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand Cards on the board with this double It’s now one- nothing Major League Baseball is on the show And welcome back to the ballpark All right we go to the top half of inning number six Bob Bishette up to the dish [Applause] First pitch and he just misses outside corner There’s a [Applause] strike line and that’s a base hit [Music] Off to a good start with a leadoff nod Well that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over So much of good hitting is finding holes in the defense That’s why you’re always thinking line drive into the gap Those kinds of swings really boost your confidence No outs Runner at first Vladimir Guerrero Jr the next to hit Fed bros over There’s the strike [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Yeah that’s fouled off One ball in the dirt and the runner holds gets a piece there We’ll do it [Applause] [Music] again with the go ahead run at the plate And we’re in the top half of the six And the swinging miss But he’s notched four strikeouts now Addison Barker next up for the Blue Jays One for two That’s outside One and0 Action in the pen down there John King the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose Mah getting loose as well Bette goes and that is out of [Applause] play Slap the other way [Applause] Foul out towards right center field Des it got it Makes the play You love to see when a guy’s hungry to make a play right there An excellent diving catch You can absolutely tell he was all in in tracking that ball down [Applause] And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate Go for two in this one There’s the strike Whole one’s the [Applause] count Here’s your one That ball’s foul Knocks that one away and will do it again Blue Jays down a run on the ground to third They get the pulse and that is the inning Make it six shut out innings for him out there Now it’s the Cardinals one and the Jays nothing [Applause] Well we go bottom six now Here is Lars Newbar Lars Newbar Hard hit to third And that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the six He’s controlling things out there on the mound not messing around at all He’s been in attack mode since the very start Now up for St Louis Mason Win [Applause] There’s the strike base is empty one away here in the bottom of the six Pretty impressive We haven’t seen that pitch from him much but he’s got a really good feel when he throws it to the right side Jimenez whips it to first and a couple of quick outs Up next for the Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan Two outs space is empty Here’s the second baseman Brendan Donovan Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out And ball one Yeah his swing is so good It’s in the zone a long time He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits and that’s in for a strike Singi one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this do you think of that as plus value Absolutely If he’s doing damage now if he’s rolling over and and grounding out then it’s a different story But yeah if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence 100% Two down Doon hit on the ground to the right side and that’s fouled Spoils that one and it remains two and two Yeah And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter And that’s ball four That’s a great at bat He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk One of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead So ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best That is if you are the offensive side of it Contrarus in the box again takes a strike Yeah And I figured you would get Kay into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night That is true Two outs This to third Can’t glove it cleanly No throw And the defense comes away with nothing Alec Burlson getting ready to hit Burles Swing and a miss as he was out front Oh one [Music] line drive and it’s into the gap headed to the plate He’ll score and it’s an RBI single and they lead by two Backto back base hits pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap and I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle so many positives that led to that knock Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change Kevin Gosman makes way and he kept him in it even though he’s in line for the loss right now New arm when we come back now pitching out of the bullpen for the Jays Number 65 Just trying to keep this one close here And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game So now here’s the Cardinals designated hitter Ivon Herrera He’s a catcher by trade but the DH here in this one Swinging a liner foul off to the right [Applause] Ball one there Contras the lead runner out at second Burlson on first with two down The 1-1 is fouled off [Applause] Here’s a one two And there’s the ball [Applause] Swinging a miss That one in the dirt Heinman down to first and they get out of the jam Well done to finish off the strikeout at end the inning But the RBI single pushes across a run and it’s two zip Back after this on the show All set for the start of the inning And the batter now Nathan Lucas Nathan Lucas Tap foul at the plate on the ground right side and it goes just foul and it’s fouled off They’ll do it again And the O2 popped up foul territory behind a play and in foul ground He pulls it down One [Applause] out Here comes the manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan Eric Fetty is done and he was very good They’ll be happy with that no doubt We’ll be back with a new pitcher in a minute Now pitching new arm of the mound for the Cardinals John King And he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year So he’s looking for better right now Giving up more than a hit per any Ernie Clement now at the plate There’s the strike It’s been tough for the offense so far but you can’t get frustrated You got to find a way to shake it off Go up there and relax That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board Here comes the one And there’s a foul ball His eyes got big He saw that change up way out in front Better to pull it than to get jammed on something off speed like that [Applause] The Cards up by two here in the top half of inning number seven And that one is downstairs Going to count one and two [Music] ground ball right side and foul ball One down base is empty Just off the outside edge This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat He just battles up there He doesn’t take a pitch off at all Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away That’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going Got him swinging He battled for a long time but it finishes with a strike out You can’t be mad at yourself after an impact like that one He just ran out of patience there He took a couple of pitches to even that count off the two balls and two strikes but that time chased outside the zone Andre Jimenez next up for the Blue Jays That one outside and that’s ball one King 30 years old now and he was a 10th round pick back in 2017 [Music] just missed two and0 on the ground to first and that scorched through and that extends the inning Well they call that an advantage count for a reason You’re so much more likely to get something you can handle Just one of those seen eye base hits through the infield He just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first Class in now takes ball one off the plate [Music] Step off Throw to first Jimenez back on a dive Tying run at the plate right side out number three and the Red Birds bullpen comes through Seventh inning stretch time It’s the Cardinals two and the Jays nothing [Music] Back here in St Lewis leading off Nolan Gorman Third base Nolan Gorman That one catches the corner No need to offer it that pitch until you get to two strikes It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch Strike two Man he really sells the change up with that arm action [Music] Cut out and miss Struck him out and one gone Thought it was a pretty good pitch Top of the strike zone We’re seeing more fast balls in that location Hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger Pah now at the plate as he swings through strike one One’s the count ball And that one clips the corner shoots a line drive single into right center So a man aboard now with one away Well that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters Scott in the box now No balls in a strike [Applause] one This one in the dirt I got one ball one strike Pah the runner at first with one gone in the inning Swang and a ball lifted in the air Lucas are you kidding me And there are two down Now batting left fielder L newbar So digging in Lars Nbar 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out Ground ball to the right side Diving stop at first and they get the out Excellent stop right there He wants to take it himself Waves the pitcher off and continues to run into the dugout Now pitching Welcome back And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth Phil Well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game Some of them are just wired different So we’ll see what he’s got here The batter now Tyler Heinman who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts Just missed The next pitch misses and it’s 2 and 0 Struggled a little bit in this one Couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0 Bottom of the zone and a called strike swing and a highf fly ball left field Makes the grab One away Now batting shortstop Boet So up next Bo Bette one for three [Music] Base is empty one away and we’re in the top of the eighth There’s the strike And the sweeper misses [Applause] and a popup right side foul territory Contras under it and he’s got it And there are two outs Now batting first baseman Vladimir Guerrero There’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr First pitch not close Foul ball You can do it You can do it That’s down and in Two balls one strike Next offering is in for a strike just misses with that one Addison Barger would be next if they can extend the inning Exactly the kind of bat you need in a clutch situation like this Got to do whatever it takes to give him a chance And that one is inside and it’s ball four And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate Didn’t miss by much right there just couldn’t get the call off the inside corner So up next for Toronto Addison Barger Rolled softly but that goes foul The tying run at the plate Highfly ball on that one Curling foul down the right side And the slider just misses [Music] [Applause] No errors and one left Home half of inning number eight Straight ahead It’s the Cardinals two and the Jays nothing [Applause] Now pitching Back now New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Eric Swanson He’s making his fourth appearance of the season And now the shorts stop Mason win Now a drag ball third base side Not in time An infield knocked to start the inning Well singy That was really nice looking Able to get it down and in a good spot And he makes it look easy Bat angle was perfect Barrel stayed above the hands can almost walk to first Now it’s the second baseman Brendan Donovan And the first pitch misses for ball one and another ball Oh he’s really working him away this at bat Sometimes take a little bit off velocity Try to get a roll over something on the ground Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield Misses inside And now 3 and 0 Toronto’s bullpen with some action Brendan Little the southpaw is throwing and getting that sinker dialed in Rodriguez getting cranked up as well and ball four to a board That just came apart right there Four pitch walk and guy at the play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone First and second no outs Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate Swang and a miss Strike one Just a bit tardy there Not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed That one missed That’s a ball First and second go out here bottom half of the eighth inning [Music] And a swing and a miss There’s that slider Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider Hey you can’t fault him for his commitment Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes [Music] One two now stays alive So glad these ballparks have installed the netting to protect the fans keep things safer all around the league Good eye in that spot Was good pitch there Had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge And that’s one of those if you swing at it he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout Ninth pitch of the at bat Do next Got him Outside pitch got the better of him that time Alec Burlson next up for the Cardinals We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots That one’s upstairs Ball one Well this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play [Music] in the air left field Snags it for the second out Now batting designated hitter Ivon Herrera Digging in Ivonne Herrera 0 for three in this one Splits the plate 0 and one Oh and one fought off foul win over at second Donovan at first Two out of the inning Ripped on the ground to second That’s the inning So the Cards strand a couple but they’re on top two nothing We’re back and on the mound is the closer Ryan Hley Save opportunity for him right here and he’s their guy Time to lock this one down and get out of here with a W Number 56 Here’s George Springer [Music] [Applause] And a foul ball [Applause] [Applause] and it’s quickly nothing and two Uh the designated hit [Applause] Swings through it and that’s a strike out Well the first batter it’s always a big one for the closer You get that punch out You get settled in you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you’re going to wrap this thing up [Music] Lucas at the plate now That’s ball one The Blue Jays trailing by two here in the top of the ninth Swing and a miss That one at one Well so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days You would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don’t know if you ever get used to it Just pumping gas out of the bullpen So hard to play catchup [Applause] That misses the countdown Two and two [Applause] Swing and a miss Stopped him out Blue Jays have just one out left here Oh it’s kind of tough right here closer comes in and he strikes out the first two hitters It’s hard not to feel defeated and that this is going to go quickly but you got to go up there maybe try to find a way to choke up on the bat spread out put the ball in play and maybe you can extend this inning [Applause] Clemens stands in now and watches strike one [Applause] off the plate Ball one Pop foul out of play off to the right [Applause] One strike away [Applause] Fights that one away Still one and two [Applause] swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt Gets to it onto first and that’ll do it as they complete the strike out to end it A lowc scoring ball game in this one Two nothing game Few errors Pretty clean That’s kind of what you want to see in terms of defense and pitching Couple of runs was all it took to get the W today Two nothing your final here in this one For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show I’m John Chavei Thanks for joining us What the
