Declaring GOAT status so early is definitely something

  1. I mean he’s gonna be a fuckin’ problem for everybody else in the league for as long as he plays. Don’t pretend that most teams wouldn’t instantly swap QBs with KC if possible.

  2. Yeah when you compare him to the other QBs who won 3 superbowls in their first 7 years playing, he’s clearly not the greatest.

  3. I mean every generation will tend to think the players they watched are the “best”. I’ve been following the NFL since primary school in the 80’s and I’ve seen tons of amazing players. But I’ve also gone back and watched film of players before my time, and stat blocks and what not. It’s not easy to compare a player from the modern NFL to one from 40 years ago. Rule changes, equipment changes, training regiments (lots of older players didn’t even bother to get in shape before training camp, and some had jobs in the off season). Eating healthy just wasn’t a thing all the time.

Mahomes is exceptionally good. So was Tom Brady, so was Joe Montana or Terry Bradshaw… all those guys were exceptional players on exceptional teams. But you can also have an exceptional player on a horrible team and they may not stand out…. Barry Sanders doesn’t have a single Superbowl but is clearly one of the best running backs to ever play…

It’s practically impossible to say who the best is…
