Jeff McNeil, Mets Walk-off Washington Nationals | Locker Room Reaction
are we good or you all together griffin first of all just teamwise you’ve been here now a few months what do you see in the group that seemingly allows for this type of win to keep happening yeah I think we’re just playing for each other um like I mean after the first or second inning Pete Pete kind of came by me and said that they were going to pick me up so um I think that that kind of says it all right there what does that mean as a pitcher in that moment when a teammate does that yeah I mean it doesn’t doesn’t feel good to go out there and put us in a hole right away so um just to know that they kind of have my back and and they were going to um grind it grind it out against a really good pitcher on the other side um yeah it was it was really nice to see what was a little off for you tonight early on and how did you grind through and you know get through the way you did yeah um I I think they just kind of had a good approach against me and were were a little bit better than me tonight um they they came in with a good approach and executed it well um and obviously the pitch to the pitch to low on the first inning probably probably not executed very well but uh yeah I felt like a Abrams put some good swings on some decent pitches i thought like the three on slider was below the zone um fast ball was down the way the change up was kind of down the way um yeah so I think I think they just came in with a good plan and just executed it what did you think of Wanoto’s play there the throw yeah obviously to to keep it a one run there just kind of keep us in the game a little bit um yeah cuz he’s he’s been doing it all year you faced McNeil as an opponent what makes him difficult that he just doesn’t really swing a miss um I think I think that’s a big part of it you know he’s going to put the ball in play um so if you leave something over the middle or give him what he’s looking for he’s going to put a good swing on it exactly what you were looking for coming up there oh yeah um you know I was just looking for anything I could hit to the right side uh wasn’t trying to do too much you know I feel like they were trying to go maybe hard away so it was you know kind of cheating for something out there and um we’re just trying to hook a ball to the right side and you know got got down the last few weeks or really the last month for you that’s been going well at the plate is it just as simple as as getting the right pitches for you yeah um you know getting the right pitches and um you know trying to hit it hard you know I’m not trying to guide the ball out there and um you know I feel like sometimes in you know big situations so you know just try to guide the ball out there and you know that’s where you know tend to get in a little bit of trouble so you know try to get good pitches put good swings on it put put your a swing on it and good things been happening how long do you feel like you’ve been in that zone where you’re successfully doing the hitting for power oh man uh I would say probably you know it was the second half last year i couldn’t tell you exactly what series it was but I remember just you know trying to get good pitches and try to get the a swing off is it as simple as just Yeah yeah um you know it’s it’s pretty hard to hit for this for average in this league you know the pitches are so good um and so tough that you know I feel like when you do get a good pitch to hit you got to you know kind of do some damage on it so you know that’s what I’ve been trying to do lately and um you know it’s been paying off how difficult was that realization because you’re obviously a guy who’s your whole career you good at hitting for average so yeah um you know it’s something that I think I’ve done in my career before you know I think in 2018 when I was in the minor leagues um you know I had that big power you know outburst and you know was able to get called up to the big leagues that year i think you know it was there i was trying to grab the ball i remember um you know being in double A triple A you know I was you know trying to get good pitches and hit it hard and um you know then when I got called up to the big leagues it was you know hitting for you know pretty high average again I think the same thing in 2019 as well um you know just trying to grab the ball and and then 22 you know won a batting title which was you know incredible um but then I feel like sometimes always you know searching for for hits and you know I think that can be you know a little tough and you know they’re not falling and you know you just want to kind of be who you are so um feel like this is kind of who I am and you know stick with it how gratifying is it to be able to make that switch kind on the fly last year and to have these kinds of results uh yeah you know it’s a lot uh you know the first half of last year is you know not who I am it was tough it was frustrating it was you know not very fun um you know was able to you know make adjustments i think this game is you know about adjustments and I feel like I’m the kind of player that can um you know adjust on the fly do what I need to do and you know get the job done you’ve been around for quite a few years with this team what is it with the resilience that you guys showed last year and this year is it just a continuation of what you guys did last season yeah um you know we’re never out of any game and this is a good uh group of good group of guys and um you know we’re playing well and it’s you know a lot of fun so um you know we have a lot of confidence in each other and you know we’re going to keep it going jeff your first four runs tonight were all sort of two outs what makes you guys so effective in those situations um yeah you know uh some big spots there um you know I think that you know at bat by Marte was huge and then you know STO was able to drive him in which is which is huge and then Pete you know just doing what he does this year so um you know we’re able to string string of bats together and you know hits red ball thanks guys juan uh Mandy was just talking about how the Marte at bat before you was the bat the at bat of the night coming back from O2 to work the walk what did you see in that at bat prior to you going up that’s 12 years veteran taking that bat right there i think uh he did a really good job uh he stay on his plan um you know everybody wants to come through in that situation but he stay patient and give myself and Pete another chance uh to come through what about for you in that spot and you come up and it’s an 02 count that you you double on what were you able to do and what were you looking for there i mean for me I just try to hone the mistakes you know um I know that guy he has his nasty stuff um I’m just trying to stay locked in my zone and he missing my zone and I make the adjustment well that was a rocket you hit hoping it was going to get down did you think the ball was going to stay up yeah i mean how things are going definitely i was hoping to go down but uh yeah it did and I was really glad i thought the ball was a little farther than than it went but I got it done what about that throw just how does it feel to to make that kind of a throw out at home there contributing with the arm i feel great i feel great i feel like we we going in the right path uh with my coaches uh outfield coach my hitting co my pitching coaches is great uh we’ve been doing great things uh so far and I’m happy for that why did you know how things are going you wanted to get down but do you feel like now with a couple of good weeks of really good results that that luck is starting to change for you yeah uh little by little we just got to be patient um keep doing my thing definitely really happy to see the ball landing and now in some spots and coming through in big moments so I’m really happy i just going to try to keep the same way all the way the first at bat the ball landed over the fence can you talk about that bat second bat sorry second just a great swing like I said another mistake i’m waiting for mistakes he made a mistake and I put the ball in play were you and Gordy at each other a little bit we just we were saying hi to each other that’s it

Love mets Juan Soto π©π΄ 22 and Jeff
Canning – despite giving up the 2HRs, has been awesome! What a great pick up. The bullpen came through again!!! LGM!!!
What a difference 20 years makes. βI tried to hit it hard. Not try to guide the ball out there.β My god, that was baseball for 100+ years now itβs all about swinging for the fences and embrace the .270 batting average. Crazy.
Soto was the MVP of this game but the bullpen set the table:
#39Diaz the 9th inning Execution King served the DINNER; Garrett served dessert in the 10th with McNeil putting the cherry on top.
Thats what you call a complete WINNER!
Happy Birthday Alex!
McNeils been white hot the last few days
Love to see it
The better McNeil hits, the more he will be worth us in trade bait
All you McNeil haters awfully quite π€£
Griffen Canning is a good man, and a great team player. Notice how he praises Juan Soto's put out at home but says nothing about not hustling enough to catch fly balls that would have saved runs too.
"Little by little. Just doing my thing. You have to be patient." Juan Soto.
The mindset of a big league player. They show up and do the work. This is a good team and is a genuine contender to win it all. LGM

Time Will tell.
