Lots of talk about Brady Martin going to Utah
I feel like Frondell will be an effective middle six winger very soon. I think out of everyone outside of Misa and Schaefer, he’s the most likely to become a legit NHL player that benefits a winning hockey team.
I don’t see him becoming a star, or even a first line player. While he plays a complete game, very physical, and is a tenacious defender, he doesn’t have a ton of skill, and doesn’t have the greatest offensive instincts. My biggest concern with him is that he plays like a power forward, relying and his strength to beat guys, which is a really difficult style to play in the NHL, especially at 6’1. I wouldn’t be surprised if his transition to the NHL was rocky, along the lines of Alexis Lafernier. (Keep in mind, Lafernier was seen as a prospect only slightly below guys like Bedard and McKenna when he was drafted. Lafernier took forever to find his offensive game, and it’s still not what people expected. Frondell is a better defender though)
Lastly, a lot of scouts think he will end up as a winger. If we’re looking for a legit 2c, I think Desnoyers, O’Brien, or Martin project better at that position. Even Martone looks like he could be a center in the NHL.
I like him as a backup option if Martone is gone. Much prefer Frondell to Desnoyers.
