Cowboys BREAKOUT Candidates AFTER Dallas Cowboys Minicamp Ft. Tyler Guyton, Jack Sanborn, Kaiir Elam

[Music] on today’s Cowboys report we’re breaking down some breakout candidates for Dallas coming out of mini camp We’ll eventually do stuff like makeorb breakak candidates and bounceback options We’ll discuss a lot of different stuff but these are players who haven’t done it before Maybe they could this season Before we dive in that we’ve gained some ground in the June like battle against the 49ers report Help us close it all together You want more Cowboys videos you want to beat those pesky ners like the video for me please and thank you We’ve been here before with breakout candidates I think there is potential for better and more from Cavante Turpin if only from a volume perspective He really wasn’t overly involved last season On offense he had 47 touches in total That’s not that many That’s less than three per game I don’t think he’s going to even double his touches this upcoming season but I would like to find a way to keep him involved get in the ball in space I think good things tend to happen when that happens for Cavante Turpin He’s I don’t think he’s ever going to be a true like wide receiver two or even three But as a gadgety player as a space player who will also benefit as we’ve broken down previously from the new kickoff rules I’m put them on the the list We might go more in depth in the future on Brevin Span forward with a different video altogether But I do want to mention him since the Cowboys themselves the coaching staff the players keep mentioning him He was mentioned as a guy getting some tight end two run which is also why in general like I don’t like investing a premium asset in a tight end too because you can find those guys as undrafted free agents Span forward is a good blocker He’s got incredible size If he can unlock some passing game ability and in this case the breakout is like does he get two touchdowns something like that Does he help you out as a blocker even if the stats don’t put up you know Jake Ferguson 2023 numbers Yeah I think he’s a breakout candidate I don’t know if there’s a player on this list whose breakout would be more impactful in a positive way than Tyler Gayton the team’s secondyear left tackle We’ve spent time on him The issues he had last season the it was mostly technique focused I also think frankly I think he lost some confidence I I I I think he got rattled with some mistakes and getting benched and going in and getting benched I don’t think I don’t think he was set up for success by the previous coaching staff Now that doesn’t absolve him of blame and Gayton has done a good job of taking accountability for that but they need him to break out this year The offense if left tackle’s bad doesn’t that really damper our hopes and expectations of what they’ll be able to do And even if you get average left tackle play which is a lot better than what you had last season that goes a long way given the gauntlet of edges you’ll face on offense So I want honest answers here because I get it The answer is low What is your confidence level in Tyler Gayton Scale it for me from 1 to 10 One on the low end 10 on the high end Last offensive player and one of the draft picks in Gayton’s class Cooper BB Isn’t it kind of weird but also like makes sense that even though BB doesn’t have the same high ceiling as Gayton who here feels better about him right now as a starter than than Gayton Because I do I thought BB especially down the stretch last year played really well Now the offense changed and it was Cooper Rush get the ball out ASAP which made the offensive line look better than maybe what they actually are but I I think I’m actually fully lying with Brian Shimer on this He made some comments at his recent press conference I think center is really underrated When you have a good center as lynchpin of your offensive line everything seems to work in harmony better You saw that with Travis Frederick It’s been a little up and downs at at times over the past couple years post Frederick Not always bad but not always as good as we want to with Tyler Bottish I have high expectations for BB I think he should have a strong season for the Cowboys If he’s not a top 10 center that’s fine I think he’s going to take a step forward and look like a long-term piece for a kind of young actually offensive line Let’s go to defense And maybe it feels weird putting a massively high paid defensive tackle on this list but I think there is still the breakout to make the contract look even better for Osizua And I I in particular I I’m basically referring to sack production here His underlying metrics stuff like pressures that all looks good If I’m paying you what I’m paying you I need to have sacks Like I I need to get more than four and a half sacks or at least I need way better run stopping which hasn’t all been OSAL or even Mazy’s fault There’s been some linebacking and containment issues But I’m paying you what I’m paying you I’m paying you $20 million Whatever I I need to get eight sacks So I think it’s very doable for OSA this upcoming season So predictions How many sacks for Osa Odigizua in 2025 Let me know in the comments of today’s show We’ll do again some edges that fit more in the bounceback or make orb breakak candidacy but I want to put Marshon Neland on here There’s a lot of room to be better The production certainly did not pop off the screen And the one area where I really think you’d benefit from Marshon Nean stepping up is as a run defender I didn’t have him pegged as an elite level pass rusher coming out of Western Michigan I did have Donovan Nzaraku pegged in that mold But I look at this unit and I see Micah Parsons pass rush first Dante Fowler pass rush first Donovan Nazaraku pass rush first It’d be really beneficial if you got some Tank Lawrenceesque production out of Marshon Nean where maybe only gets you a couple sacks but he can lock down as an edge setter in the run game and really benefit your run defense in that regard I think he has the traits to do it can even kick inside some on passing downs but he’s going to have to have to take a step forward because 14 tackles and two two TFLs not going to cut it even and colors as well Let’s go to linebacker I could have put like every linebacker on this one of these lists in some capacity For breakouts let’s do Jack Sandborn Has flashed when he’s had tendencies to play in the past He’s a a good special teamamer He can do the middle linebacker role the weak side the strong side role kind of feels like middle linebacker right now for Dallas He followed Matt Eberloose to the Cowboys because he thought I know I know the defense I’ve got a chance to make an impact and potentially cash in next season Cowboys have to have somebody step up at linebacker DeMarvin Overshone is going to miss time Kenneth Murray’s going to play a lot Sanborn has a real chance to make a big impact and show what he hasn’t ever fully shown in a potential entire year of starting I want you to name a player who you think breaks out for the Cowboys this upcoming season Sound off in the comments right now Let’s go to corner and we’ll spend these last three spots on the secondary in general Ka Elum who borderline fits in the makeorb breakak category by the way But Elilum didn’t live up to any expectations in Buffalo I liked him a lot coming out out of uh Florida I thought he had elite level quarterback potential potential number one guy never put it uh together and in a way for like the early part of the season outside of maybe OSA I think a Kaire Elim breakout would be massive for the Cowboys if they’re going to put Don Bland in the nickel with Diggs banged up probably not going to be back for week one despite despite what he says Savone Rebel being more of an unknown someone’s got to step up and I think Elum with what he did in mini camp early I know put himself in a good spot you know last Last year on this breakouts list the one I was like I know he didn’t get paid much but he’s got a chance to have a big time role and I think he’s done good stuff when he’s gotten a chance The team the coaching staff likes him Last year though was Rico Dowel Maybe it’s Israel Muamu this year The Cowboys have been giving him some outside corner run which the skill set and length does fit pretty well there too He’s done everything between college and the NFL Outside corner free safety strong safety nickel special teamer Every time he’s gotten a chance to play in a game that matters he’s made plays but he’s never gotten a full chance to do more than that So I would like to see Izzy Muamu get a chance for a bigger quarterback role I kind of thought it might be at nickel but if it’s bland can he do it on the outside The the I think the potential is Look Donovan Wilson’s missing tie Hooker miss a little tie Maris Bell miss time was points at OTAA’s mini camp that Wanie Thomas was safety one I think some of the play nickel stuff was also like they went with big nickel packages and he kind of rotated down again He hasn’t played much done a good job on special teams I think there’s untapped ability much like Israel Muamu but I do wonder if because of the presence of Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson if Thomas will truly get that opportunity barring injuries at safety But get a couple of these guys to step up have have a big season really benefits the Cowboys [Music]
